Guy G. Norris
May 15, 1915 -- March 7, 2005
Port Angeles resident Guy G. Norris died at age 89.
He was born in Garden City, Kan., to Guy Burney and Nell (Murray) Norris.
During World War II Mr. Norris served as a Navy lieutenant in several Pacific campaigns.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Kansas, where he also graduated from the School of Pharmacy.
He married
Marguerite Lucille Jones in Philadelphia on Jan 11, 1944.
Before moving to St. Andrew's Assisted Living in Port Angeles three years ago, Mr. Norris lived in Manitou Springs, Colo., for 50 years and was a pharmacist for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Manitou Springs Community Congregational Church for 50 years.
Survivors include daughter Elizabeth Snipe of Port Angeles and grandson, Zachary Norris Snipe, a student at the University of Washington in Seattle.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years who died in 1994, and by sister Jean Norris Kampschroeder who died in 1997.

MARCELLA L. `TONI' HUTCHISON
Marcella L. 'Toni' Hutchison, age 79, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005, in Spokane, Washington.
She moved to Spokane in 1994 after living most of her life in Port Angeles.
Toni had worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for many years, first as an operator, then later as a line assigner.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Barbara Hutchison; a grandson, Kiley Hutchison and his wife Jen; a granddaughter, Jenn Hutchison, all of Spokane; and a sister, Wilma Bailey of Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Edward ``Ted" Hutchison in 1985.
She was a member of the Port Angeles Telephone Pioneers.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Mount Angeles Memorial Park.

Ardyth E. Burke
Aug. 19, 1927 -- March 8, 2005
Port Angeles resident Ardyth E. Burke died of cancer at age 77.
She was born in Bangor, Maine, to Fred and Mary Wood (Pryce) Harriman.
She graduated from Port Angeles High School.
Ms. Burke enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening and reading.
She belonged to Dry Creek Grange.
Survivors include son Jeff Delplain of Seattle and sons Robert LaBelle and Larry LaBelle of Port Angeles; daughters Sally LaBelle Jung and Rochelle LaBelle Edwards of Port Angeles; daughter Pamela Burke St. Louis of Seattle; sister Beverly Hall of Port Angeles; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Ted Delplain and brother Pryce Harriman.
Services: Saturday, March 12, 3 p.m., celebration of life at Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. Remembrances will be made by family and friends. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Byrdene Greenwalt
Jan. 9, 1925 -- Feb. 28, 2005
Evelyn Byrdene Greenwalt died in her Port Ludlow home. She was 80 and had numerous health problems.
She was born in Englewood, Colo., to William Roy and Emma Byrdene (West) Meredith.
Raised in Elk Mountain, Wyo., she moved to Centralia, where she married
Jack Greenwalt on Oct. 23, 1941.
She had lived in Port Ludlow since 1989.
Mrs. Greenwalt enjoyed gardening and beautiful flowers. She was known for sharing her bouquets with friends, neighbors and nursing homes.
Survivors include her husband; son and daughter-in-law Loren and Mary Greenwalt of Woodinville; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Dan Leader of Stanwood; daughter Colene White of Port Ludlow; brother and sister-in-law George and Nita Meredith and sister Vi Nelsen, all of Centralia; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: Celebration of life and reception were held March 5 at the Beach Club in Port Ludlow. Kosec Funeral Home of Port Townsend was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at Tahoma National cemetery.
Leslia Lewis
April 13, 1967 -- March 5, 2005
Leslia Lewis of Forks died at age 37. Cause of death is pending.

Port Angeles resident Ada McElravy died peacefully at age 104.

Marjorie N. Willard
March 14, 1917 -- March 5, 2005
Port Hadlock resident Marjorie N. Willard died in Jefferson Healthcare hospital of cardiac difficulties. She was 87.
She was born to Harvey and Goldie (Morris) Shuff in Toledo, Ohio, where she married
Frederick R. Willard. He preceded her in death.
She lived in Atlanta for many years, then moved to Port Hadlock in 1976.
Mrs. Willard belonged to Firemen's Helpers of Chimacum.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Frederick R. and Brianne Willard of Atlanta; brothers and sisters-in-law Richard and Pat Shuff of Chimacum, Robert and Marian Shuff of Arkadelphia, Ark., John and Mary Lou Shuff of Toledo, Ohio, and William and Dorothy Shuff of Syracuse, N.Y.; sisters Ruth Kerekgyarto of Toledo, Ohio; Dorothy Peterson of Issaquah and Mary Ellen Simon of Toledo, Ohio; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by brothers James and Frank Shuff.

HERBERT E. BURLEW
June 19, 1904 - Feb. 20, 2005
Centenarian Herbert E. Burlew died in his Sequim home.
He was born in Glenwood, Iowa, to Daniel and Louise (Webber) Burlew.
He married
Thelma Elder in California on October 17, 1927.
Mr. Burlew, who was a private with the Army's Battery E, 10th Field Artillery, had special responsibility for horses.
He was a farmer in Yakima for 20 years, growing grapes, wheat, melons and artichokes. He retired in 1962 and traveled throughout North America.
Mr. Burlew was a 50-year member of the Prairie Grange of Sequim. He was also a delegate of the Grape Growers Association of New York.
His interests included hiking, especially on Burnt Hill in Sequim, and daily walks on the Dungeness Railroad Bridge as well as polishing and cutting rocks, fishing and RV travel.
Mr. Burlew, who was preceded in death by his wife, is survived by his sister-in-law Doris Levesue, niece Janis Cattell, and close friends Phil and Gilda Collins and Robert and Virginia Becker.
Services: At his request, none. Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Bremerton, was in charge.
George William Chapman
July 7, 1943 -- March 7, 2005
Port Angeles resident George William Chapman died at age 61 from complications of an extended illness.
He was born in Seattle to Howard and Mary E. (Minish) Chapman.
He served in the National Guard, and worked at the K-Ply mill in Port Angeles for 30 years.
Mr. Chapman, who enjoyed bowling and watching all sports, was a past president of the Salmon Club.
He was active in the Multiple Sclerosis Society and a former member of the Eagles Club.
In addition to his wife, the former Pamela Kay Vance whom he married
in Port Angeles in 1983, Mr. Chapman is survived by daughter Sherri DePoe and brother Howard ``Scooter" Chapman Jr., all of Port Angeles; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by brother Jack Chapman.
Services: Thursday, March 17, 11 a.m., memorial in First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

James Lewis Chase
May 8, 1912 -- March 9, 2005
James Lewis Chase, longtime resident of Port Townsend, died in Port Angeles at age 92.
He was born to Floyd K. and Edna Chase in Puyallup, where he graduated from high school in 1931.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Washington State College in 1938, Mr. Chase was a pharmacist in Ketchikan, Alaska.
He married
Donna M. Hoy in Tacoma in October 1939.
When the couple moved to Port Townsend, he became an associate and eventual owner of O'Neill Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist 53 years before retiring in 1981.
Mr. Chase was former president of both the Port Townsend Rotary Club and Jefferson County Fair Board.
In addition to hosting gatherings of family and friends at the Chase beach cabin near Port Ludlow, he and his wife traveled extensively, including on 14 Elderhostel trips.
In his basement workshop, Mr. Chase crafted wood items that are still in use -- park signs, furniture for family members and garden decorations.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years; son and daughter-in-law James Marvin and Nancy Chase of Bellevue; daughter and son-in-law Joy and Bob Sheedy of Port Angeles; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: A celebration of life will be held at the family's cabin in the spring. People's Memorial Association, Bremerton, is in charge.
