Sequim resident Lloyd H. Starr died at age 68.
Olympic Cremation Association, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Services: Saturday, Feb. 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., celebration of life at 251 S. Fifth Ave., Room 108, Sequim.

Leslie Mesba Walterson
April 13, 1958 -- Feb. 20, 2006
Port Angeles resident Leslie Mesba Walterson died of cancer. She was 47.
Born to S. Darrell and Lucile A. (Dear) Walterson in Vacaville, Calif., she graduated from American High School in Fremont, Calif., in 1978.
She earned her Emergency Medical Technician certificate in 1979.
Before coming to Port Angeles, she lived in Port Orchard.
Ms. Walterson did not have children of her own, but she loved children and her dog, Cujo. She also enjoyed motorcycle riding, singing and cooking.
She was a member of Church of Christ.
Ms. Walterson is survived by her mother of Port Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Brooks and Dan Williams of Port Angeles; and brother Randy Walterson of Pleasanton, Calif.
Services: March 11, 1 p.m., memorial in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Jerry Dean will officiate.
A reception will follow at Ms. Walterson's home, 921 Seamount Drive, Port Angeles.
Memorials: Assured Hospice, 720 E. Washington St., Suite 104, Sequim, WA 98382.

Lucile D. Wilson
Aug. 26, 1922 -- Feb. 20, 2006
Lucile D. Wilson, 83, died in Port Angeles of age-related causes.
She was born to Richmond and Edith (Riggen) Nobel in Olympia.
She married Harry Wilson in Olympia on Oct. 26, 1946.
In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Wilson worked at the Clallam Co-op in Port Angeles and other part-time jobs.
She was a member of Fairview Homemakers, First Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship.
Survivors include son Harry L. ``Larry" Wilson and daughter Susan K. Childers, both of Port Angeles; sister Geneva Jenkins of Olympia; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, Feb. 25, 1 p.m., memorial in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. David Moffitt will officiate.
A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of First Christian Church, 2605 S. Race St., Port Angeles.

VIOLA WAKEFIELD
Viola Wakefield, 96, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away in Weiser, Idaho, at the Indianhead Estates on Saturday, February 18, 2006.
A visitation will be held at the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Ontario, Oregon, on Thursday, February 23, 2006, from noon until 2 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Sequim View cemetery in Sequim at noon on Saturday, February 25, 2006.
Services are under the direction of Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Ontario, Oregon.
She was born on October 5, 1909, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She married Jack Howard Wakefield in 1952. He preceded her in death on August 25, 1998.
She moved to Ontario, Oregon, and Payette, Idaho, and lived there since 1999.
She was preceded in death by all of her family, including her last niece in June 2005.

MARY FRANCES PRINDLE
1925-2006
Mary Frances Prindle, 80, former Dean of Instruction at Peninsula College, died on February 17, 2006, in Port Angeles after a long illness.
She was born Mary Frances Muller in Vernon, Texas, and received her B.A. from Texas University for Women in 1947, and her M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1952.
She married Warren R. Prindle in Chicago in 1953.
They have one son, David, and daughter-in-law, Pascha, of Seattle.
Fran's interests in retirement included her extensive gardens, cooking, travel and lending an ear to those around her.
Ms. Prindle had a long and distinguished career in teaching, administering and promoting early childhood and family life education programs in the public schools and community college system of Washington State.
Early in her career, she was a teacher and principal at the University of Chicago Nursery School, and later, beginning in 1960, a family life education teacher and director of family life education for the Seattle Public Schools.
In 1966, she was appointed to the position of chairperson of the Home and Family Life Division of Seattle Community College; in 1974, Associate Dean of Instruction; and in 1975, Acting Dean of Instruction at Seattle Central Community College.
Ms. Prindle was recognized as a national authority on the organization and development of early childhood and family life educational programs, and she served as a consultant to a wide range of public school, community college, university and state and federal agencies.
She was chosen by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction to serve on the advisory committee to make recommendations concerning the preparation of teachers of young children.
She received high commendations from the Seattle Community College Board of Trustees for her leadership in establishing the college day-care center for student-parents.
She led the successful movement to establish early childhood and family life educational programs in the Washington State Community College System.
In 1975, she was chosen as ``Woman of the Year" by the American Association of Women in Community and Junior Colleges; also in 1975, Ms. Prindle resigned her position at Seattle Central Community College to accept an appointment as Associate Dean of Instruction and Registrar at Peninsula College.
Under her direction, the Family Life Education program at Peninsula College grew into one of the college's major instructional programs, and she provided leadership in establishing the college day-care program for student parents.
During her time as registrar, the college's student registration system and student records-keeping system were reorganized and improved in order to provide more efficient services to students.
In 1987, Ms. Prindle was appointed as the Peninsula College Dean of Instruction, in which position she served the college until her retirement in 1990.
Among her accomplishments as instructional dean were the introduction of an evening degree program, strengthening of the college transfer program, augmentation of evening off-campus programs, establishment of new vocational and college transfer classes, expanding the college development program offerings, and establishment of the original educational program at Clallam Bay Corrections Center.
Ms. Prindle's 38-year career in education and her many attainments during that career bear witness to the fact that she was a person who succeeded in changing profoundly the course of human events.
Her husband, son and daughter-in-law survive her.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Mary Frances Prindle Family Life Education Memorial Fund, Peninsula College Foundation, 1520 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

CLAYTON LAURANCE GRAVES
Clayton Graves of Lewistown, Montana, passed away Feb. 4, 2006, in Goodyear, Arizona, at the age of 82.
Clayton was born in Sterling, Colorado, on June 23, 1923, to Marquis and Gladys Graves.
At age 16 months, Clayton's mother divorced and moved to California, where she met M.R. (Buster) Norman.
Buster and Gladys married in 1929 and Buster later adopted Clayton.
He was raised on the Norman ranch on Plum Creek. He went to country school until high school, and then attended Fergus High School in Lewistown, where he played football and basketball.
Participation in local rodeos was a favorite pastime as a young man.
After high school, Clayton headed to California and became a long line truck driver. He drove for Lasme-Seattle, and on one of those trips from Los Angeles to Seattle he met Thelma Stockand.
They were married Oct. 3, 1947.
They spent the first years of marriage on a farm they leased in Montana. They welcomed their first daughter in April 1953, and in 1954 they decided to move to Forks, Washington.
Clayton went to work for NP Anderson Logging Co. driving log truck and building road.
To this union three more daughters were born.
In 1964, Clayton and partner Billy Lyons started a shake mill on Raft River. G&L Shake was later moved to his home on the Hoh River.
After the death of his wife of 50 years, Clayton decided to return to Montana to take care of his elderly parents.
In Lewistown in 1999, Clayton married longtime friend Sharon Heppe. They made their home in Lewistown and wintered in Arizona.
Clayton was preceded in death by daughters, Shelley and Myrna, his wife, Thelma, and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of Lewistown, Montana; daughters Gail Parker and Mardy Blattner, both of Forks; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Delores Graves Winkle of McColl, Idaho; and four stepchildren.
A celebration of life is scheduled for April 8, 2006, at 4 p.m. at the Forks Elks Lodge. The family requests no flowers.

Barbara Hakkinen
Jan. 4, 1939 -- Feb. 20, 2006
Barbara Hakkinen died of cancer in Sequim at age 67.
Mrs. Hakkinen was born to John Harold and Mary Lorraine (Sproat) Neil in Tacoma. She attended high school in Sequim.
She married John Hakkinen.
Mrs. Hakkinen lived in Gold Beach, Ore., Washougal, Vancouver, Wash., and Sequim and enjoyed gardening, canning and shopping.
Survivors include her companion Sam Rhodefer; sons Jeff Ferguson of Gold Beach, Ore., and Jim Ferguson of Vancouver, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law Joe and Diane Ferguson of Central Point, Ore; daughters and sons-in-law Jana and Doug Heindselman of Okanogan, Julie and Mitch Kilgore of Washougal, and Stacey and Jeff Hancock of Gold Beach, Ore.; daughter Barb Rogers of Washougal; brother and sister-in-law Doug and Lilo Barofsky of Corvallis, Ore.; sisters and brothers-in-law Jody and Barry Wheeler of Vancouver and Marilyn and John Duvall of Hillsboro, Ore.; sister Jill Neil of Shelton; and 13 grandchildren.
Services: Private service with Pastor Richard Fleck officiating and inurnment at Sequim View cemetery.
There will be an open house at 83 S. Rhoderfer Road today at 2 p.m.
Olympic Cremation Association is in charge.

George W. `Bill' Mohnkern
March 13, 1922 -- Feb. 21, 2006
George W. ``Bill" Mohnkern of Sequim died of colon cancer at his Port Angeles home. He was 83.
He was born to Gerald Edward and Velma Marie (Fry) Mohnkern in Oil City, Pa.
Mr. Mohnkern served in the Navy as an aviation machinist's mate first class from August 1942 through January 1946.
He married Arla M. Johnson in Seattle on March 12, 1946.
He was owner of Bellingham Dental Lab and, later, Investment Castings.
Mr. Mohnkern was a member of the Bellingham Yacht Club and president of the Kulshan Kiwanis Club of Bellingham in 1968.
Survivors include his wife of Sequim; daughter Christiana A. Mohnkern of Bellingham; daughter and son-in-law Suzann L. and Michael Traband of Port Angeles; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: Private family service. Cremation by Olympic Cremation Association.
Memorials: Assured Home Health and Hospice, 720 E. Washington St., Sequim, WA 98382.
