GUSTAV UNO WIRKEBAU
Gustav Uno Wirkebau was born November 23, 1921, in Tallinn, Estonia, to parents Gustav and Elfrieda Virkebau.
He died February 17, 2006, in Port Townsend, Washington, of pneumonia.
At age 13 he left Estonia after the death of his father due to strife in his country. He worked aboard sailing ships out of England and on many ships and vessels, becoming a Merchant Marine, from which he retired as an able seaman. He was very proud of his time on the seas and always said he had been in every major port in the world. He loved telling stories of his adventures in Spain and China, etc., and of Alaska. He then worked for the State of Washington Ferry System and retired in the 1980's.
Gus became a citizen of the United States on September 6, 1956, in California.
He was married to Lillian Mae Johnson, March 7, 1966, in Buena Park, California, and divorced in November 23, 1973, in Kitsap County, Washington. They had one daughter, Una Laverne, who was born December 10, 1967. Her address at this time is unknown.
The past 23 years he lived in Brinnon, Washington, with his companion, Glenna Leshe. They enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona, and summering in Brinnon.
Glenna preceded him in death in July of 2005.
Drennan-Ford assisted with a private burial at Ocean View cemetery, February 24, 2006, a place where he is close to the ocean that he loved.

Farrell `Ann' Erickson
Sept. 17, 1941 -- Feb. 23, 2006
Sequim resident Farrell ``Ann" Erickson died in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, at age 64. The cause of death is pending.
She was born in Sequim to Tommy and Gloria (Schaeffer) Young.
Her Sept. 16, 1960, marriage to Rodney E. Erickson in Blyn ended in divorce in 2001.
Mrs. Erickson was a commercial clam digger and a fisherwoman.
She also liked spending time with her grandchildren, traveling and gardening.
Mrs. Erickson was a longtime member of the Gardiner Garden Club and belonged to Gardiner Community Church.
In addition to her former husband, she is survived by son Brian E. Erickson of Sequim; daughter Cheryl Wiederrich; daughters and sons-in-law Sharlene M. and Derek Quick of Sequim and Colleen and Ron Plute of Port Angeles; mother Gloria Young Pinnell of Sequim; sisters and brothers-in-law Ronda and Dan Chambers of Port Angeles and Irene and Lyle Phillips of Kodiak, Alaska; brother and sister-in-law George and Lu Young of Republic; and five grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, March 4, 2:30 p.m., visitation and funeral in Gardiner Community Church, 1040 Old Gardiner Road immediately preceding graveside committal in Gardiner cemetery.
A 4 p.m. memorial potluck will be held in the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Ann Miller
Feb. 13, 1915 -- Feb. 28, 2006
Lifelong Port Angeles resident Myrtle Ann Miller died at age 91.
Services: Monday, March 6, 1 p.m., memorial in Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers St., Port Angeles. Her son, Pastor Len Tatom, will officiate.
A second memorial will be held March 11 at 1 p.m. in Sheridan Christian Church, Sheridan, Ore.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of local arrangements.

Alice Beatrice Wilson Olson
Jan. 5, 1916 -- Feb. 26, 2006
Alice Beatrice Wilson Olson died of pneumonia in Dungeness Courte Alzheimer's Community, Sequim, at age 90.
She was born in Silverstone, N.C., to Ida Lee Wilson.
She married Carl Ellsworth Olson in St. Louis. He died Feb. 19 (see death notice following).
Mrs. Olson, who graduated from beauty school and worked as a beautician in the Seattle, also sold western clothing in a business at Bellevue jointly owned with her husband.
She studied art privately and was a juried artist.
She and her husband belonged to the Pinochle Club in Sequim.
Mrs. Olson is survived by brother Walter Burl Combs of Pasco and sister Alma Combs Fowler of Cooper Landing, Alaska.
Services: None. Private inurnment in Ocean View cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Ellsworth Olson
May 5, 1912 -- Feb. 19, 2006
Carl Ellsworth Olson died in his Sequim home of aortic stenosis at age 93.
He was born in Medicine Hat, Saskatchewan, to Carl J. and Amelia (McDonald) Olson.
He married Alice Beatrice Wilson in St. Louis. She died Feb. 26 (see preceding death notice).
Mr. Olson, who was a saddle maker with his own saddle and tack shop in Bellevue, made saddles and their tack for World War II and ornamental silver saddles for the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
He and his wife were members of the Pinochle Club in Sequim. He also liked to play bridge and go fishing.
Mr. Olson is survived by brother-in-law Walter Burl Combs of Pasco and sister-in-law Alma Combs Fowler of Cooper Landing, Alaska.
Services: None. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge.

Mary Diane Kallappa Williams
Aug. 17, 1944 -- Feb. 25, 2006
Mary Diane Kallappa Williams, a member of the Makah tribe and a Peninsula resident until 1998, died in Sacramento, Calif., of heart failure. She was 61.
She was born to James and Josephine (Dan) Kallappa II in Neah Bay, where she attended school.
Her marriage to Ray Martinez in Reno, Nev., ended in divorce.
She married Ernie Williams in 1990. They separated four years ago.
In Sacramento, Mrs. Williams was a certified nursing assistant.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Carman and Rick Marin of Sacramento, Calif.; brothers James Kallappa III, George Kallappa and Edward Kallappa, all of Neah Bay, Bill Kallappa of Shelton and David Kallappa of South Dakota.
She is also survived by four grandchildren.
Ray Martinez died in 2000.
Services: Saturday, March 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitation in the Assembly of God Church, Third and Fort streets, Neah Bay, preceding the 1 p.m. funeral. James and George Kallappa will officiate. Burial will be in Neah Bay cemetery.
Dinner will follow at the Neah Bay Community Hall.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Nadine Baker
Jan. 14, 1910 -- Feb. 24, 2006
Evelyn Nadine Baker died of complications from a stroke at Crestwood Convalescent Center in Port Angeles. She was 96.
The eldest of 11 children, she was born to William and Mabel (Maloney) Hargett in Spokane.
She married Roy Leland Baker in Spokane on Nov. 14, 1925.
During World War II, she worked for Kenworth Motors as a mechanic and for Boeing as a riveter.
Mrs. Baker, who grew prize-winning chrysanthemums, not only enjoyed gardening but cooking and baking, rock-hounding and traveling. She and her husband also enjoyed fishing.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Roy Leland Baker Sr.; son Roy Leland Baker Jr.; daughter Charlotte Baker Tanner; grandson Michael Woessner; granddaughter Priscilla Mahoney; sisters Phyllis Warner, Bonnie Taigen, Jerry Collins; and brothers Bus Hargett and Bob Hargett.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Marilyn Baker of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Robert Woessner of San Jose, Calif.; brothers William Hargett and Richard Hargett; sisters Betty Smith, Marilyn Hickam, Beverly DeWater; brothers William Hargett, Richard Hargett; grandchildren Frank Woessner, Erik Woessner, Doug Baker, Steve Baker, Jeff Baker, Mark Baker, Robin Locke, Frank Locke, Ron Locke; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, who died in 1974, she was preceded in death by son Roy Leland Baker Jr., daughter Charlotte Baker Tanner, brothers Bus Hargett and Bob Hargett, sisters Bonnie Taigen and Jerry Collins, and two grandchildren.
First Call, Seattle, is in charge of the arrangements to donate Mrs. Baker's body to University of Washington Medical School, as her husband and son did.
Services: Saturday, March 4, 1 p.m., memorial in First Baptist Church, Sixth and Laurel streets, Port Angeles. The Rev. Bud Fraser will officiate.
Memorials: Hospice of Clallam, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Charles E. Grant
Feb. 28, 1929 -- Feb. 28, 2006
Former Port Angeles resident Charles E. Grant, who was incapacitated with long-term illness, died in Park Rose Care Center, Tacoma, on his 77th birthday.
He was born in New York City.
Mr. Grant retired as an administrator with the Department of Services for the Blind in Seattle before relocating to the North Olympic Peninsula, which was his home for 16 years.
He moved to Lacey in 2004.
He was a member of Olympic Unitarian Universalist Church in Agnew.
On December 12, 1969, he married Janice B. (Melville) Revitt, who survives him in Careywood.
Other survivors include sons Warren Grant of Idaho and Wayne Grant of Welches, Ore.; stepson James Revitt of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter Mary Grant of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; stepdaughter Kathy LaTourette of Olympia; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: None. Cremation is under direction of Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood.

Mary Diane Kallappa Williams
Aug. 17, 1944 -- Feb. 25, 2006
Mary Diane Kallappa-Williams, former Neah Bay resident and registered member of the Makah tribe, died of heart failure in Sacramento, Calif. at age 61.
Services: Saturday, March 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitation in Assembly of God Church in Neah Bay, immediately preceding the 1 p.m. funeral at the same location. James and George Kallappa will officiate.
Burial will be in Neah Bay cemetery.
Dinner will follow at the Neah Bay Community Hall.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
