Thomas, Louise Tuesday, 02 Mar 2004
Louise M. Thomas died March 2 at her home in Belmor Park in Federal Way. She was 71.
She was born in Greenville, S.C.
She was an assistant at Parkside Nursing Home.
She was a member of Belmor Park Ladies Golf and Phi Beta Psi, Gamma Delta Chapter, a sorority raising funds for cancer research.
Survivors include her companion, Don Broadhead of Federal Way; a son, Wayne Laws of Greenville; a brother, Buddy Merritt of Greenville; and sisters Frances Herron and Christine Marlow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mabel Merritt.
A service is scheduled for 3 p.m. March 21 at the Belmor Park clubhouse.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Phi Beta Psi, Gamma Delta Chapter, 2101 S. 324th St., No. 326, Federal Way, WA 98003.
Packnett, Richard Thursday, 19 Feb 2004
Richard (Dick) E. Packnett, a lifetime resident of Federal Way, died Feb. 19. He was 60.
He was born in Tacoma and was a 1961 graduate of Federal Way High School.
He enlisted in the Air Force in January 1965 and was honorably discharged in January 1969. He was a retired member of more than 30 years of IBEW Local 76 and a life member of HOG International.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa; a daughter, Ricki Camacho; a son, Troy Packnett; his mother, Evelyn Packnett; a brother, Marvin Packnett; a sister, Dawn Packnett O’Neill; and grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 20 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 3505 122nd Ave. E. in Edgewood.
The family suggests contributions be made in his name to the Harrison Hospital Memorial Foundation—CCD, 2520 Cherry Ave., Bremerton, WA 98310.
Thorstad, Kenneth Thursday, 12 Feb 2004
Kenneth John Thorstad died Feb. 12. He was 86.
He was born to Anton and Sophia Thorstad on June 24, 1917 in Duluth, Minn., where he grew up and graduated from high school.
He trained at the Glass Institute in Steubenville, Ohio and blew neon glass for two years.
He served with the Army Air Corps in World War II and the Korean War as a panel engineer on the B-29 Super Fortress and as a mechanic on P-40s.
He married
Alice Christensen Sept. 29, 1953. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last fall.
His family settled in Federal Way. He worked for Boeing as a quality-control inspector and retired in 1975.
He was active with St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Federal Way, was an avid fisherman and, with his wife, met regularly with a group of seniors who walk at SeaTac Mall in the mornings.
Survivors include his wife; daughters Linda Cameron of Tacoma and Nancy Cummings of Winchester, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David.
Visitation was Feb. 17 at Yahn and Son Funeral Home. in Auburn. Funeral services were Feb. 18 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Burial was at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Aney, Ruth Wednesday, 11 Feb 2004
Ruth B. Aney of Federal Way died Feb. 11 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. She was 84.
Born Sept. 1, 1919 in Mount Vernon, she married
Alton Aney on June 25, 1943 in Everett.
An avid baseball fan, she was a 23-year member of the Seattle Mariners Women’s Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Burn of Federal Way, and Mary Swift of Renton; son, Jim Aney of Sumner; sister, Mary A. Thompson of New York City; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 21 at Life Way Church in Federal Way.

Hebert, Clarence Saturday, 07 Feb 2004
Clarence L. Hebert, a longtime Federal Way resident, died Feb. 7 at his home. He was 81.
He was born Oct. 25, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas, and married
Maria Mosle in 1952 in Salzburg, Austria.
He served in the Army for 27 years, including two tours in Vietnam, retiring in 1973 as master sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal during a 1969-70 Vietnam tour, and also received the Distinguished Service Award. He was awarded another Bronze Star for helping rescue and evacuate 50 civilians from flooded homes near Key West, Fla. during Hurricane Betsy in 1965.
After his military career, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years at the postal center at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Upon his retirement in 1997, he received a commendation from the postmaster general for 50 years in the service of the United States –– 27 in the military and 23 with the Postal Service.
Survivors include a son, H. Josef Hebert of Maryland, and two granddaughters.
Services and inurnment were Feb. 12 at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements were by Price-Helton Funeral Home.
Spaulding, Helen Saturday, 31 Jan 2004
Helen Louise Spaulding died Jan. 31 in Federal Way.
She was 97.
She was born in Sheridan, Wyo., and graduated from high school at the age of 16 as valedictorian of her class.
She lived in Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington with her husband, Al Spaulding, a forest ranger with the U.S. Forest Service.
In 2003, she was recognized for her more than 60 years in PEO, a women’s philanthropic educational organization. During her retirement years in Federal Way, she enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
Survivors include daughters Marge deMers and Carol Schoenborn; sisters Hazel Grover of LaGrande, Ore. and Marge Wise of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her husband.
A memorial gathering is planned for July near Priest Lake, Idaho.
Wing, Frank Tuesday, 27 Jan 2004
Frank J. Wing Sr. died Jan. 27 in Mesa, Ariz. He was 73.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. on April 19, 1930 .
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Jirka of Auburn West Hill; a son, Frank Wing Jr. of Chicago; brothers Rick Adonis, Ed Wayne and Robert Howard, all of the Chicago area; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Concetta, in 1998.
Private services were Jan. 30. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
Litt Sr., Harvey Monday, 26 Jan 2004
Harvey Litt Sr. died Jan. 26 at his home in Federal Way, where he was a 29-year resident. He was 72.
Born March 3, 1931 in Lincoln, Neb., he married
Maria Heinen on Oct. 20, 1959. For 26 years, he was a photographer in the Air Force until his retirement in 1974.
He bowled every day of the week in leagues, and also enjoyed racquet ball and swimming.
He is survived by his wife, Maria; a son, Harvey Litt Jr.; daughters Jutta, Lydia and Mary; sisters Barbara and Shirley; and one grandchild.
A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are through Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.
Small, Joseph Saturday, 26 Jun 2004
Joseph B. Small, 83, died June 14 in Federal Way.
He was born May 23, 1921 in Kansas City, Mo. In addition to Missouri, he lived in Troutdale, Ore., Renton, Mountlake Terrace, Des Moines and Federal Way.
He was an Army Air Corps flight instructor during World War II, then went on to fly with United Airlines before retiring.
Survivors include his second wife, Verna Small, and children Joe Small, Karen Small and Tom Small.
Hammil, Duane Thursday, 24 Jun 2004
Duane Lewis Hammil of Milton died May 24. He was 61.
He was born Aug. 10, 1942 in Wenatchee.
He retired as a school principal in 1996, after a 30-year career in education with the Federal Way school district. After retirement, he enjoyed golf and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Bonnie, and sons Erik and John.
A celebration of his life was held June 1 at Federal Way High School.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Duane L. Hammil Memorial Fund, Columbia State Bank, 1250 Meridian E., Milton, WA 98354.
Harvey, Norene Wednesday, 16 Jun 2004
Norenne Marie Harvey, 91, died June 16 at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way.
She was born Dec. 13, 1912 in Everett, the youngest of eight children.
Survivors include her husband, Graham; daughters Bonnie, Roberta, Geraldenne and Georgenne; and a son, Thomas.
A memorial service was held June 23 at Church of the Good Shepherd in Federal Way.
Belden, Russell Tuesday, 15 Jun 2004
Russell B. Belden Sr. died June 15 at his home in Federal Way. He was 65.
He was a 15-year resident of Federal Way.
He was born Aug. 15, 1938 in Farmington, Ohio. In 1993, he married
Susan Shadel, and retired as a superintendent at Malcolm Drilling in Kent.
Survivors include his wife; sons Russell Belden Jr. of Federal Way, and Charles Belden of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Connie Belden of Reno, Nev.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 18 at Yahn and Son Funeral Home in Auburn. Committal service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. June 21 at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Arrangements are by Yahn and Son Funeral Home.
