Fitzgerald, Daniel Thursday, 27 Feb 2003
Longtime Federal Way resident Daniel P. Fitzgerald died Feb. 27 in Sumner, his home of two years. He was 68.
He was born to Daniel and Helen Fitzgerald on Aug. 22, 1934 in Chicago, Ill., and attended Mt. Carmel High School.
He served two years in the Army and graduated from Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. In 1970, he married
Patricia Ann and in 1975 the couple moved with their children to Federal Way, home for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife; children Julie and Brian; and a sister, Patricia McRoy.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. March 8 at the Old St. Andrews Catholic Church, 704 Kincaid Ave., in Sumner. A reception will follow.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of Good Samaritan Hospital, P.O. Box 1247, Puyallup, WA 98371.
Baker, Floyd Thursday, 27 Feb 2003
Floyd Warren Baker died Feb. 27. He was 76.
Born June 9, 1926 in Tacoma, he graduated in 1943 from Stadium High School in Tacoma and later served in the Army.
He worked for the Panama Canal Company for 21 years before retiring to Federal Way in 1981.
He was a charter member of Wayside United Church of Christ.
He also was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 1452, and a member of Panama Canal Society and Cascade Ambassadors 395.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Beverly; sons Glen and Paul; daughters Carol Goodwin and Beth; a sister, Joyce Carsten; and four grandchildren.
A celebration of his life is planned for 1:30 p.m. March 8 at Wayside United Church of Christ at 2000 SW. Dash Point Road in Federal Way.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Wayside United Church of Christ, designating the Children’s Food Fund of the San Blas Medical Mission in Panama, or the new sound system for the church.
Lee Lindgren, Yang-ja Saturday, 22 Feb 2003
Yang-ja Lee Lindgren died Feb. 22. She was 60.
Her Korean parents were living in Manchuria, China when she was born on July 31, 1942. She attended college in Korea. In 1970, she emigrated to America, where her sister lived. She studied at the University of Washington, earning two degrees.
She worked as a social worker and owned a restaurant and a gift shop.
She was a strong supporter of Federal Way Public Academy. In 2002, the school named its community service award after her.
Survivors include her husband, Brian; sons John and Michael; her mother, two sisters and four brothers. The family suggests memorials be made to Marine View Presbyterian Church, 8469 Eastside Drive NE., Tacoma, WA 98422, or the Federal Way Public Academy PTSA, 36001 First Ave. S., Federal Way, WA 98003.
For the latter, gifts should be designated for the Y. Lee Lindgren Community Service Award Scholarship.
Sperline, James Monday, 09 Jun 2003
James Calvin (Cal) Sperline, a longtime Federal Way resident, died June 9 at Alterra Clairebridge of Puyallup. He was 79.
He was born Nov. 3, 1923 in East Wenatchee. He attended Washington State University until he was drafted into the Army Air Force and served in World War II.
He taught aerial gunnery in Tonapah, Nev. before moving to West Covina, Calif., where he met and married
his wife of 54 years, Dottie.
He was a representative for Goodyear and a real estate broker. After moving to Federal Way in 1956, he continued in real estate and later started a steel-building construction company, where he worked until his retirement.
He was vice mayor and police commissioner in West Covina, president of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Edgewood Masonic Lodge and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Smitham; a son, James A. Sperline; brothers George and Don Sperline; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; four sisters and six brothers; his parents, John and Minnie Sperline; and a grandson.
Funeral services were held June 12 at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pierce County Alzheimer’s Association.
Van Noy, Helen Sunday, 08 Jun 2003
Helen Ruth Van Noy, 83, died June 8 in Tacoma.
She was born April 23, 1920 in Barronett, Wis., and was a Federal Way resident since 1943.
She retired in 1981 as a school teacher from the Derringer School District.
She was a charter member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and a member of Pacific Lutheran University Alumni.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Oliver of Federal Way; children James Van Noy of Carnation, William Van Noy of Montesano and Marie Gibson of Puyallup; brothers Carroll Rieck of Olympia and her twin, Robert Rieck of Dupont; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Van Noy, and a sister, Hazel Bartlet.
Memorial services were held June 12 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements were by Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Church Building Fund, 515 S. 312th St., Federal Way, WA 98003.
Buechner, Donna Tuesday, 03 Jun 2003
Donna Buechner died of cancer June 3 in Federal Way. She was 68.
Born April 13, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, she raised her family in Seattle and lived in San Bernardino County, Calif., for the past 30 years.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Matson of Federal Way and Helen Clark of Lynnwood; a brother, Robert Cullum; and three grandchildren.
She was widowed three times.
A graveside memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 16 at Abby View Memorial Park in Brier.
Genova, Theresa Monday, 02 Jun 2003
Theresa Agnes Genova, 74, died June 2 in Tacoma.
Survivors include daughters Marilyn Bowell and Patty Genova; a son, Michael Genova; a brother, Thomas Dowling; and five grandchildren.
Rosary was said June 6 at Bonney-Watson Federal Way Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. June 7
at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, located at 30525 Eighth Ave. S.

Soule, Edward Thursday, 29 May 2003
Edward L. Soule, 73, died May 29 at his home in Federal Way.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; daughters Leslie Allmendinger and Peggy Odegard; a son, Edward Soule Jr.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. June 4 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St.

Geiger, Kathleen Thursday, 29 May 2003
Former Federal Way resident Kathleen Pearce Geiger of Greenville, S.C. died May 29.
She lived in the Twin Lakes area of Federal Way from 1968 to 1980 when her husband was employed with Boeing.
Survivors include children Elayne Geiger and Allen A. Geiger Jr., both of Greenville, and Cynthia Geiger Smith of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Joe Pearce of Greenville; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Geiger.
Services were held June 1 in Greenville.
Sandwith, William Tuesday, 27 May 2003
William R. Sandwith of Federal Way died May 27. He was 66.
He was born Sept. 9, 1936 in Bellingham and was the founder and owner of Mikron Industries, headquartered in Kent.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; a daughter, Susan Crader; sons Jeff Sandwith, David Sandwith and Mark Sandwith; his mother, Elizabeth Sandwith; a brother, Richard Sandwith; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 31 at Grace Lutheran Church, 22975 24th Ave. S., in Des Moines.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the W.R. Sandwith Foundation Society for PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), 1838 Greene Tree Road, Suite 515, Baltimore, MD 21208.
Haman, Bruce Tuesday, 27 May 2003
Bruce R. Haman of Federal Way died at home on May 27. He was 36.
He was born on March 3, 1967 in Minot, N.D. The family moved in 1979 to Williston, N.D., where he graduated from high school. He attended North Dakota State School of Science for one year, moved to North Seattle in 1990 and to Federal Way in 2001.
He was a self-employed carpet installer and owner of B.H. Carpet Installation.
Survivors include his parents, Benny Haman of Williston and Donna Haman of Bellevue; sisters Nancy Stelljes, of Littleton, Colo., and Stacey Montplaisir of Firestone, Colo.; and a brother, Paul Haman of Redmond.
A funeral service was held June 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Issaquah, followed by burial at Lower Hillside cemetery. Arrangements were by Flintofts Issaquah Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials be made to the Bruce R. Haman Memorial Fund through the Bank of America to benefit the Seattle Wolves Hockey Club, which he played for.
Isenmann, Mary Jo Sunday, 25 May 2003
Mary Jo Dooher Isenmann of Federal Way died May 25 in Tacoma. She was 67.
Born to Howard and Oneita Dooher on July 21, 1935 in Portland, Ore., she was educated in Oregon, attending St. Mary’s of the Valley and Marylhurst University.
In 1990, she retired after 23 years as a teacher with Tacoma Public Schools, having spent the majority of her career with developmentally disabled children.
After residing in Federal Way for many years, she moved in 1994 to Coupeville on Whidbey Island, where she was a member of the Coupeville Arts and Festival Committee.
At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Village Green assisted living center in Federal Way.
She is survived by a son, Mike Isenmann of Federal Way; daughters, Heide Tacheron of Covington, Kathi Nelson of Tracy, Calif. and Anne Long of Portland; former husband Helmut Isenmann of Maple Valley; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 2 at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, 30525 Eighth Ave. S., in Federal Way.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Washington Special Olympics or to Marylhurst University.
