Everett G. Olson, 80, died Jan. 26 in Tacoma.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1922 in Almont, N.D., to Hazel and Trygve Olson. He lived the past 15 years in Northeast Tacoma.
He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Federal Way-area businessman, including owning Evergone Inc., before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; nine children, two brothers, four sisters, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances be sent to John A. Kennedy Dialysis Foundation at St. Joseph Medical Center, 1717 S. J St., Tacoma, WA 98405.
Sherwood, Kenneth Monday, 13 Jan 2003
Kenneth G. Sherwood died Jan. 13 in Federal Way. He was 89.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, in 1991, and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Jan. 17 at Washington Memorial Funeral Home in SeaTac.
The family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Hobson, Joseph Wednesday, 08 Jan 2003
Former Federal Way resident Joseph Nelson Hobson died Jan. 8, 2003 at a hospice in Longview. He was 80.
Born Sept. 27, 1922 in Plaza, N.D., he was a Federal Way resident from 1966 to the early 1980s.
He was a retired member of Pipefitters Local 82 in Tacoma and a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Stephanie; sons Chris of Shelton, Joe of Longview and Mike of Federal Way; a daughter, Michelle of Buckley; and nine grandchildren.
Inurnment services were held Jan. 15 at Gethsemene cemetery in Federal Way.

Hicks, Howard Saturday, 04 Jan 2003
Howard E. Hicks of Federal Way died on Dec. 23, 2002. He was 69.
He was born Nov. 18, 1933 in Superior, Wis., and was a former resident of Seattle and Tacoma.
He retired from the Air Force after serving 20 years as a flight engineer/aircraft mechanic during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Gideons International and Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; daughters Cheri Jones and Cynthia Gallup, both of Stratford, Okla., and Patricia Cole of Shreveport, La., and a son, Howard Hicks of Spanaway; stepdaughters Lara LaRose, Kathleen Horne and Roberta Cameron, all of Federal Way; a brother, Lawrence Hicks, and a sister, Naomi Cooper, both of Grass Valley, Calif.; a sister, Darlene Manley of Snohomish; and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Hicks; brothers Arthur, Morrell, Aaron and Harland Hicks; and his first wife, Martha Jane Hicks.
A memorial service and celebration of his life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 4 at New Hope Community Church of the Nazarene, 9308 Meadow Road SW. in Lakewood. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery. Arrangements are by Bonney-Watson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The American Red Cross or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
King, Arthur Saturday, 04 Jan 2003
Arthur J. King Jr. died Dec. 27 at Auburn Regional Medical Center in Auburn. He was 83.
Born Nov. 12, 1919 in Vashon, he graduated from West Seattle High School in 1938 and the University of Washington in 1942.
He served in the Coast Guard during World War II and was a science teacher for 30 years at Cascade Junior High School, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the Auburn Elks Lodge, Valley Rose Society, American Orchid Society and the National Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothea; a son, Arthur King III, and a daughter, Pam Wonn, both of Cashmere; a brother, Ralph King of Point No Point, Ariz.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 4 at Yahn and Son Funeral Home, 55 West Valley Hwy. in Auburn. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Ellison, Robert Tuesday, 31 Dec 2002
Dr. Robert (Bob) Ellison died Dec. 31, 2002 in Federal Way. He was 75.
He was born to Ellen and Ed Ellison on July 20, 1927, in Tacoma.
He attended Park Lodge Elementary School and Clover Park High School in Lakewood, and graduated from the University of Puget Sound and Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
He was the first optometrist in the Federal Way area, opening his practice in 1955.
He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, the Elks, Tacoma Country and Golf Club and Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Virginia; a daughter, Susan Cross; a sister, Laura Hewitt; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Ellison.
A private family memorial service will be held. Arrangements are by Mountain View Funeral Home.

Harris, Elinor Saturday, 07 Dec 2002
Former Federal Way resident Elinor Claire (McCaskill) Harris died Dec. 7 at Linden Grove Nursing Home in Puyallup, where she had lived since July 2002.
She was 87.
She was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Houston, Miss., attended Drury College, and in 1937 married
Gerson Harris, then of Marquette, Mich. They lived in California, Wisconsin, and Paris, France with their children during World War II before settling in Harker Heights, Texas.
She was a member of the Harker Heights United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and a local garden club.
Survivors include grandchildren Paul Reising of Federal Way, Ann Ross of Buckley and Melissa Schauers of Enumclaw.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Claire Reising, in 1978; a son, David Harris in 1999; and her husband, who was a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel.
Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are by Yahn and Son Funeral Home in Auburn.
Vanderlinde, Gerard Sunday, 01 Dec 2002
Gerard “Gerry” Vanderlinde died in December at his home in Federal Way. He was 65.
Vanderlinde, the youngest son of H.R.H. Princess (Raden Ayu) Paryem and plantation botanist Adriaan van der Linde, was born Oct. 29, 1937 on a sugar plantation in Madiun, Indonesia.
After the war for independence forced his family out of Indonesia in 1954, he moved with his parents to the Netherlands, where he married
Patricia Droop. In 1961, the couple immigrated to the United States, settling in Corvallis, Ore. until 1964, when they moved to Federal Way.
He worked for Paccar for 25 years before studying airframe and powerplant mechanics and working 13 years with Boeing at Everett, Renton and Boeing Field. He’d been retired for eight months before being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last August.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughters Ginny Vanderlinde of Federal Way and Tiffany Vanderlinde-West of Tacoma; a son, Anthony Vanderlinde of Tacoma; a sister, Juliana Gersen of St. Helens, Ore.; a brother, Paul van der Linde of the Netherlands; and three grandchildren.
Private memorial services were held at St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to American Cancer Society, Northwest Harvest, the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club, or any organization that helps disadvantaged children.
Smith, Helen Friday, 21 Mar 2003
Former Federal Way resident Helen Margaret Lupinski Smith died March 21 in Bellevue. She was 72.
Born April 15, 1930 in Mataway, N.J., she lived in Federal Way from the early 1960s to 1991, when she moved to Bellevue.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Smith of Bellevue; sons Stephen Lupinski of San Antonio, Texas, Jeffrey Lupinski of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Thomas Lupinski of Garden City, Mich; daughters Nanci Lupinski of Olympia and Susan Lupinski of Lakewood; stepsons Frank, Marty and Craig; sisters Jean Fierro of New Jersey and Anna Mae Davis of Florida; and five grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. March 26 at St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church on Mercer Island, followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. at Gethsemane cemetery in Federal Way. Arrangements are by Green Funeral Home of Bellevue.
The family suggests memorials be made to the National Parkinsons Organization.
Gorham, Joy Friday, 21 Mar 2003
Joy Gorham, a former Federal Way resident, died March 21 in Tonasket. She was 65.
She was born to Edith and Benjamin Singer on July 9, 1937 in Riverside, Calif., and moved from Federal Way to Tonasket in 1994.
Survivors include her husband of 14 years, Charles “Chuck” Gorham; her children, Kathy Ramento, Cary Edwards, C.C. Edwards, Danny Gorham and Darrin Gorham; a sister, Sandra Waterman; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 30 at Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor.
Cox, Lois Wednesday, 19 Mar 2003
Lois K. Cox of Auburn West Hill died March 19 in Federal Way. She was 71.
Born Nov. 13, 1931 in Athens, Ohio, she was a 31-year resident of the Federal Way-Auburn area. She retired as a retail sales clerk from the Frederick & Nelson store at Tacoma Mall and was a member of Marine View Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her sons, Greg Cox of Auburn and Jeff Cox of Grants Pass, Ore.; a brother, Paul Kail of South Carolina; a sister, Margaret Frost of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on Jan. 5, 1988.
A graveside service was held March 24 at Willamette National cemetery in Portland, Ore. Arrangements are by Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.
Bradshaw, Nellie Sunday, 02 Mar 2003
Nellie G. Bradshaw of Federal Way died March 2 in Cle Elum. She was 74.
Born April 25, 1928 in Fertile, Minn., she graduated with a teaching certificate from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and moved to the Puget Sound area in 1957. She married
Don Bradshaw in 1960.
She taught preschool, middle school-level and high school at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Renton, and at Childhaven in Burien and Auburn.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church of Auburn and the FS Chapter of PEO, and a former member of Family of God Lutheran Church in Federal Way.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Bradshaw; a brother, Howard Berg; sisters Connie Epperson and Olga Ofstedal; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Gena Berg; a brother, Milton Berg; and her husband.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. March 11 at Messiah Lutheran Church, located at Fourth and H Street Northeast in Auburn.
