William Natale GASPERETTI

Died on Oct. 23, 2002 and resided in Seattle, WA.
cemetery: Calvary Catholic cemetery
passed away October 23, 2002 at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Marie (Reinholz) and proud father of three sons: William, N. Gasperetti, Jr. (wife Jennifer), Robert C. Gasperetti (wife Terry), and James J. Gasperetti. He was the loving grandfather of William III, Sean, Alexander, and Stephen.
Bill was born in Seattle on May 3, 1919 and was a life-long Seattle resident and business owner. He attended Rainier Elementary School and graduated from Garfield High School in 1937. While at Garfield he earned a letter in Track and Field as a long distance (mile) runner. In 1942 Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was assigned to the Military Police unit at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After his discharge from the Marines in 1945, he and his late brother, John, purchased the Roma Cafe from one of their uncles, “Fritz” Petofrezzo. They operated the “Roma” in that location until 1961 when they relocated “across the tracks” to the corner of Fourth Avenue and Main Street and renamed the restaurant “Gasperetti’s Roma Cafe”. Regardless of it’s location, the Roma was always a favorite dining spot for local politicians, sports and entertainment personalities, sports writers and broadcasters, Superior Court judges and attorneys, police officers, and a wide variety of faithful customers all of whom Bill and John considered their friends.
Bill and John supported and sponsored numerous youth athletic teams including American Legion and Connie Mack baseball, soccer, football, and ice hockey. They were also long time season ticket holders for Seattle Rainiers, Angels, Pilots (still have the tickets for that second season!), and Mariners baseball as well as the Seattle Seahawks. Bill loved virtually all sports, however, when it came to player/team details and statistics he always deferred to Marie whom he lovingly referred to as “The Commissioner”.
In 1981, Bill and John sold the restaurant and, after a six month retirement, Bill went to work with his cousin Victor Rosellini at the Victor’s restaurant on Fourth and Bell. They remained together until that restaurant closed to make room for a condominium project. Subsequently, and up until about a year ago, Bill worked for the Seattle Police Department as a school crossing guard at the Wedgewood Elementary School. He loved being around the school children and, based upon the cards and letters he would receive from them, they appreciated and loved him in return.
Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, October 28, 2000 at the Columbia Funeral Home, 4567 Rainier Avenue South, Seattle. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Catholic Church, 1531 Bradner Place South, Seattle. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Medic One or your favorite charity.
