Meiser, Lorrie Thursday, 20 Apr 2006
Lorrie Meiser, 75, of Poulsbo died April 20 at Harrison Hospital.
She was born April 9, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to Ignatius Zavadlov and Mary Kerkoch Zavadlov.
She married
Richard Meiser on Nov. 3, 1951, in Chicago.
She made a career in real estate with JRO and Spot Realty.
She enjoyed entertaining friends and family in her Hood Canal home.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Meiser, of Poulsbo; son Gary (Sharon) Meiser of Bainbridge Island; daughters Barbara (Ed) Pearson of Gig Harbor, Janet (Chris) Blasquez of Falmouth, Maine, and Amy (Bob) Becken of Allyn; brothers Ed (Barbara) Zavadlov of Bremerton and Dave (Carol) Zaval of Arlington Heights, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. April 26 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.

Kinney, Rothwell Jay Tuesday, 18 Apr 2006
Former Bainbridge Island resident Rothwell Jay Kinney, 85, of Sedro-Woolley, died April 18 at Birchview Memory Care Center.
He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Lincoln Neb., to Russel and Hazel (Rothwell) Kinney.
The family moved to Blaine, Wash., when he was a child. Growing up, he enjoyed playing football, boxing and getting into fights.
The family moved to Portland, Ore., where Roth graduated from U.S. Grant High School. He attended Duke University in Durham, N.C., graduating with degrees in both English literature and business. While attending Duke, he played college football.
From 1941 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy as an officer.
He married
Nan Heughan on Aug. 25, 1950, in Seattle. In 1953, the couple had their first child, Jan, followed by Jay in 1955 and Bill in 1957.
Roth was first employed as an executive trainee at Seattle First National Bank and eventually as a career planner for Bernard Haldane Career Counselors. He also worked as an administrator for Boeing, the University of Washington and the Washington State Medical Association.
Roth moved to Bainbridge Island in the 1970s, where he lived on his sailboat for many years. Some of his favorite times included serving as a Boy Scout leader, sailing and fishing Puget Sound and the Queen Charlotte Islands, hiking and climbing “The Tooth of Time” in central New Mexico, traveling via cruise ships around the world, relaxing on Waikiki Beach and watching college football and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters and his wife, Nan, in 1994.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Steve Hendrickson of Mount Vernon; sons and daughter-in-law Jay and Maria Kinney of Placerville, Calif., and Bill Kinney of Kennewick; grandchildren, Beth Ryberg of Oahu, Hawaii, Bryan Ryberg of Portland, Ore., Aaron Kinney and Kelley Kinney, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and Anne Kinney of Novato, Calif.; and two former spouses, Gail Maclean and Adele Lloyd.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. April 29 at Eagle Harbor Congregational Church, with interment at Port Blakely Cemetery, followed by a reception.

Belling, L. Myrtle Saturday, 15 Apr 2006
L. Myrtle Belling, 94, died April 15 at Messenger House Care Center on Bainbridge Island.
She was born Dec. 24, 1911, in Seattle, the fourth child of Norwegian immigrants Kristen and Anne Belling and the only one of her siblings born in a hospital.
She was raised and resided all her life on Bainbridge Island, and lived in her own home until recently.
In 1912, she was one of the first children to be baptized at Port Madison Lutheran Church, and was a lifetime member of the congregation.
She graduated in 1931 and worked in the shipyard on Bainbridge Island during World War II for the U.S. Navy.
She worked in the island’s strawberry cannery during summers.
She retired from the Bon Marche in Seattle.
She was very fond of birds and provided many good cookies to her nieces and nephews over the years.
She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Barney and her sister Christine.
She never married
but had a large extended family, including nephews David Belling of Bainbridge Island, Richard Belling of Poulsbo and James Belling of Colorado; niece Beverly Belling of Portland; 12 grandnieces and grandnephews; 17 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; one great-great-grandniece; and numerous others who called her “Aunt Myrtle.”
Services will be at 2 p.m. April 22 at Port Madison Lutheran Church, with Pastor Lori Hoyum officiating.

Palmer, Don S. Tuesday, 18 Apr 2006
Bainbridge Disposal owner Don. S Palmer, 70, of Bainbridge Island, died in his sleep April 18.
He was born July 13, 1935, in Billings, Mont., and raised in Suquamish.
He never lost his desire for the Big Sky Country, loved traveling throughout Montana and was looking forward to spending his retirement under the wide, blue skies of his favorite state.
He was planning on retiring from the disposal business on June 1.
His life passion was Bainbridge Disposal, the business he started 40 years ago. He was a pioneer in the concept of recycling, and led the charge for Bainbridge Disposal as one of the first companies in Kitsap County to incorporate curbside recycling.
His company provided gratis manpower and equipment for the Grand Old Fourth, Annual Rotary Auction, Earth Day and many other beneficiaries.
He loved his friends, a good laugh, all Republicans and, most of all, a serious game of pool.
He served in the 82nd Airborne, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was jump qualified and proud of his time spent in the military.
He also served as president of the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He was a Life Member of the Bainbridge Sportsman’s Club.
He is survived by his daughters, Heidi (Doug) Owens and Heather (Dean) Church, and his three grandsons, Tucker Bowman and Derek and Brett Church.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. April 30 at the Poulsbo Sons of Norway.

Marshall, Charles Lewis Sunday, 16 Apr 2006
Charles Lewis “Jack” Marshall, 84, died April 16 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle with his family at his side.
He was born Oct. 26, 1922.
He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1939, attended the University of Washington and later resided in Seattle and Whidbey Island.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Stangeby Marshall; daughters Mindy (Neil) Beemer, Jacki (Bill) Gavin and Cheryl (Tom) Svornich; grandchildren Tim Dahl, K.C. Dahl, B.J. Gavin, Dominic Svornich and Sarah Gavin; and three great-grandchildren.
At his request, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Minyard, B. Joe Saturday, 15 Apr 2006
B. Joe Minyard, 77, died April 15 at Hospice Care Center in Longview, Wash.
He was born April 10, 1929, in Quinton, Okla., to Victor C. and Elzana (Stone) Minyard. He attended schools in Featherstone, Tipton Ridge and Quinton, Okla.
He joined the U.S. Navy and lived in Bremerton, on Bainbridge Island and in Kelso, Wash. He was a resident of Ryderwood since 1991.
He owned and operated the barber shop on Bainbridge Island for 26 years before moving to Kelso. He assisted several barber shops in the Longview-Kelso area.
He worked at Reynolds Metals as a maintenance millwright and retired in 1991.
He was an active volunteer in Ryderwood community activities.
He served as Ryderwood park manager for many years and held membership in Ryderwood Men’s Club, VFW Post No. 7010 and the Ryderwood Community Church.
He was a member and a past master of the Kelso Masonic Lodge No. 94, Scottish Rite in Kelso and Maple No. 218 Order of the Eastern Star and was past patron several times.
He was grand representative to the Oklahoma in Eastern Star. He was also past commander of the American Legion on Bainbridge Island.
He also volunteered many hours for his church and community neighbors.
He loved fishing, playing his fiddle, “making sawdust” in his shop, gardening, travel and his grandchildren, family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Loralee; sons Dick Minyard of Bainbridge Island and Tim C. Minyard of Sumner; daughter Janine Alborn of Bellevue; sister Cledia Burke of McAlester, Okla.; three granddaughters and two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. April 22 at Ryderwood Community Church, with Pastor Gordon Bowman officiating, assisted by Kelso Masonic Lodge and the Ryderwood VFW. Arrangements are by Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock.

Worden, Mary Lasher Wednesday, 12 Apr 2006
Former Bainbridge resident Mary Lasher Worden, 95, died April 12 in Port Townsend.
She was born March 6, 1911, in Olympia, Wash., next door to the capitol campus. She graduated from Washington State College. Over her lifetime, she lived in Olympia, Pullman, Portland, Ore., Tacoma, Fox Island, Bainbridge Island and, since 1998, Port Townsend.
Her homes were characteristically spare, clean and arranged with an eye for showing off selected art, flowers and found objects. She enjoyed entertaining small groups, and her cooking reflected the same simplicity and sophisticated taste.
She had a life-long interest in American history, particularly in the cultural and natural history of the Pacific Northwest.
She was an avid reader and was known for her informed but concise contributions to conversation, and for her research and organization of historical materials.
She wrote copy for a Portland advertising agency in the 1930s, where she met her first husband, Victor E. Kaufman, who died in 1965.
In 1944, she published a novella built around logging camps of the Northwest. She was a volunteer for the Washington State Historical Society in Tacoma and the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. And she was a frequent participant in programs of the North Cascades Institute and Olympic Institute.
She also contributed to the work of her second husband, Northwest writer William L. Worden, who died in 1982.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Kaufman (Nik) Worden of Port Townsend; step-grandchildren Seth Worden of Bonney Lake and Michael Worden, Peter Worden and Kaia Holmes of Seattle; and great-grandchildren Patrick Worden, Justin Worden, Maari Swain and Iman Holmes.
Wilsie, Winfred A. Friday, 22 Sep 2006
Former Bainbridge Island resident Winfred A. “Win” Wilsie, 72, died Sept. 22.
He was born Nov. 19, 1933 in Tacoma, to George and Alice Wiggins.
The family moved to Bainbridge Island in 1946, where Win met his future bride at Bainbridge High School.
He married
Carolyn Ingalls on May 26, 1956 at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church.
In 1967, the family moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, and planned to stay for one year to see how they liked it. That first year convinced them that Alaska was home.
Wilsie was employed by Wards Cove Packing Company from 1962-73, when he left to accept employment with Ketchikan Pulp Company, from which he retired in 1994.
His retirement years were filled with cruises and trips around the United States to visit relatives and friends.
He and his wife moved to Peoria, Ariz., in 1999, where he enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners at their spring training facility. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and being with his family.
He was a member of the Elks, Moose, Pioneers of America and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; son Steven and daughter in law Pamela; daughter Laurel and son in law Rodney Bray; grandchildren Matthew (Amanda) Wilsie, and Sarah and Tyler Bray, all of Ketchikan; brothers George, Donald, David, James and Darrell; and sisters Ruth, Betty and Patricia.
A celebration of life was held Oct. 7 in Peoria, Aris.
