Loftus, Patricia
Patricia (Pat) Trudeau Loftus died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005 at Swedish Medical Center in Denver three days after being in a collision with another motorcyclist. She was 52.
Loftus was born on July 8, 1953, in Bremerton to Jerry and Mary Trudeau and graduated from CK High School in 1971. She married
Noel Loftus in March of 1971 in Port Orchard.
She had a variety of jobs as she followed her husband’s Air Force career for 20 years. She worked at Royal Air Force Mildenhall Base in England, Williams AFB in Arizona, the Department of Energy in Richland, Wash., Randolph AFB in Texas and Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs, Colo., where her memorial service was on Sept. 1, 2005.
She’ll be remembered for her wonderful smile, positive attitude, infectious laugh, integrity and love of family. She also had a great passion for riding her Harley-Davidson.
She is survived by her husband Noel of Colorado Springs; daughter Erika (Frankie) Garcia of Colorado Springs; son Jason Loftus of Colorado Springs; mother Mary Trudeau of Bremerton; sisters Janna (Terry) Shreve and Lisa (John) Havens, both of Poulsbo; brothers Tim (Linda) of Everett, Chris of Port Orchard and Dan of Toonerville; granddaughters Brenna Loftus and Delisia Garcia, both of Colorado Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hopper, Ernie
Ernie Hopper, a retired battalion chief after 29 years spent in the Bremerton Fire Department, died Aug. 22, 2005 in Bremerton. He was 72.
Hopper was born on May 17, 1933 to Leora (Kintner) and Hugh Hopper. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1951 and in 1957, married
his wife Patricia McMahon in Brooklyn, N.Y. He retired from the Bremerton Fire Department in 1984.
Hopper enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing. He was an avid traveller, seeing most of the United States as well as spending time in Australia and Africa. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially watching his grandsons play sports.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Bremerton; son Spike (Valerie) Hopper of Bremerton; daughter Christi (Richard) Arena of Bremerton; brothers Cal (Ruby) Hopper of Arizona and Bud (Erna) Hopper of Puyallup; grandsons Alexander and Nickolas Arena of Bremerton and many special friends.
A life celebration is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. Memorial donations are asked for Hospice of Kitsap County or the Rescue 1 Fund, care of Bremerton Fire Department, 911 Park Ave., Bremerton, WA., 98337.
Fullerton, Genelle
Ruthie “Genelle” Brantley Fullerton of Bremerton died Aug. 27, 2005. She was 78.
Fullerton was born July 18, 1927 in Walnut Grove, Miss., to William Ferman Brantley and Minnie Wolverton Brantley. Fullerton graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1943. Following her graduation she began her career with the federal government. While at training in Baltimore for the Social Security Administration, Fullerton met her co-worker and future husband, John Alan Fullerton. They were married
March 18, 1961. She enjoyed a long service career and retired from the Navel Undersea Warfare Engineering Station in Keyport in 1992.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Fullerton of the family home; brother C. Don Brantley of Brandon, Miss; sister Bonnie J. Sartin of Anna, Texas; two sons, Mark Fullerton of Yakima, Wash., and Mitchell Fullerton of Sandpoint, Idaho; grandchildren Rhiannon, Tara, Kylee, Aaron, Kaylor, Kianna and Joseph; step-grandchild Brad and many cousins, nieces, nephews.
Fullerton was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers William Jr. and Eugene Brantley and infant daughter Brenda Darlene.
Funeral arrangements are provided by Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Interment is at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial gifts may be made in Fullerton’s name to North Mason United Methodist Church Women’s Group.
Bonson, Brandon
A memorial service for Brandon Charles Bonson is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Coupeville Community Bible Church, 502 Northeast Otis St., Coupeville, Wash.
Bonson was born on Jan. 20, 1982 in Bend, Ore. to Norman and Mary Bonson. He graduated from Oak Harbor (Wash.) High School in 2000 and was a student at Central Washington University when he died of injuries suffered in a rollover crash near Ellensburg on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005.
He is survived by his parents, brother Austin Bonson and a large extended family.
Whitford, John
Kitsap County native John William Whitford died Aug. 19, 2005, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale. He was 78.
Whitford was born in the booming logging town of Port Gamble on Oct. 21, 1926 to Homer and Agnes (Ryen) Whitford Sr.
He attended North Kitsap High School where he played basketball and graduated in 1944. After a stint in the Army where he served in World War II and the Korean War, Whitford went on to the University of Washington where he was a member of the Theta Xi fraternity and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of economics degree.
Whitford worked for his father at Reliable Hardware and Furniture Co., which he himself would later own and operate. He also sold real estate and invested in and managed apartment buildings and mobile home parks.
He was a life-long avid swimmer, water skier and tennis player. He also was a sports fan, enjoying basketball, football and baseball. Whitford also coached basketball and was very involved with his children’s athletic ventures. He enjoyed talking about old times and politics.
Whitford was preceded in death by his father in 1967, his mother in 1977 and brothers Homer Jr. and Terry Whitford.
He is survived by his sons Trent (Barbara Nelson) Whitford of Salem, Ore. and Reagan Whitford of Bremerton; daughters Stacey Richards of Kalama, Wash. and Wendy (James “Sandy”) McDermed of Silverdale; grandchildren Hilary, Dorian and Julian Whitford and Hayley and Summer McDermed.
Visitations are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27, at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Hoving, Nancy
Nancy Lee (Heacock) Hoving of Puyallup died Aug. 12, 2005, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale from complications of diabetes and multiple sclerosis. She was 54.
Hoving was born on Aug. 10, 1951 to Howard and Vonda Lee (Senn) Heacock in Bremerton. She graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1969 and married
Nickolas Hoving on Oct. 30, 1995, in Reno, Nev.
She drove school busses for 11 years in the South Kitsap School District and worked as a home health care nurse and CNA at Valley Medical Center for five years.
When she wasn’t working she kept busy as a member of the Puget Sound Treasure Hunters Club of Tacoma and the Foot Hills Evangelical Church in Enumclaw. She also volunteered with the Northwest Junior Rodeo Association and the Little Britches Rodeo. A cowgirl herself, Hoving competed in barrel racing, enjoyed camping, fishing, SCUBA diving, boating, horses and taking wildlife photographs.
She is survived by her husband of the family home in Puyallup; her parents, Howard and Vonda Lee Heacock of Bremerton; son Brian (Lilia) Finney of Bremerton; daughter Stephanie Finney of Port Orchard; sisters Connie (Ron) Simonis of Keyport and Jeanette (Michael) Kingsley of Camano Island; and grandchild Liam Finney. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
A memorial is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 at Rill’s Life Chapel Center. Arrangements by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.

Paz, John
John A. Puz died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in Poulsbo. He was 84 years old.
A 1940 graduate of Orcas Island High School, Puz began his career at the Boeing Co. in Seattle in 1941. Entering the Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor, he served honorably and bravely aboard both combatants and troop transports in the Pacific before his return to the Northwest in 1946.
After resuming his career at Boeing, Puz was, in 1950, the youngest supervisor ?” at age 30 ?” ever selected for a management position in the fabrication division of the commercial aircraft company. He was recognized with multiple awards and commendations as he assisted in the introduction and production of Boeing aircraft at plants throughout the Seattle area before retiring in 1983 after 42 years of service.
Puz was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Boeing Management Association, and a frequent volunteer at his Catholic parish church as well as local Special Olympics events.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Maxine Cahail Puz of Friday Harbor; and by his second wife of 10 years, Evelyn Cole Puz of Seattle. He is survived by his son Michael Puz, of Seoul, Korea; his daughter Patty (Bob) Kinsella of Seattle; granddaughters Tara, Kelsey and Keenan Kinsella; and his good friend Ruth Mollenkamp of Poulsbo.
A Catholic Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 3, at St. Matthew Parish in Seattle, 1240 Northeast 127th St. A reception in the church hall will follow; at his request, burial services will be held privately. Carlisle, John
John W. Carlisle, a former resident of Seabeck, died June 17, 2005, in Fargo, N.D. He was 87.
He was born in Fargo on Aug. 12, 1917, and attended school there. He was active in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended North Dakota State University for two years before transferring to the University of Washington, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business in 1939. He was president of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
He married
Carol Jean Larson of Valley City, N.D., in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in July of 1942, and became an executive officer of the 356th Fighter Group and was based in England from 1943 to 1945. After the war, he returned to his family in Fargo and worked for the Standard Oil Company before starting his own bulk fuel oil business in Valley City in 1946. He built many commercial buildings for lease in North Dakota.
He resided in Seabeck from 1977 to 1997. He served on the board of directors for Harrison Hospital and the Kitsap Golf & Country Club.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carol Jean, in 2003. He is survived by his five children, John W. (Sally) Carlisle, Jr. of Asotin, Wash.; Beth (Richard) Anderson of Bellingham, Wash.; Peggy Carlisle of Bainbridge Island and Park Rapids, Minn.; Bruce M. (Nan) Carlisle of Fargo, and Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and Eileen Carlisle of Santa Rosa, Calif. He also has ten grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers, William Carlisle of Casselton, ND, and Frank J. Carlisle of St. Inigoes, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

Meteney, Albert
Albert John Meteney died June 12, 2005, in Port Orchard after a fight with pancreatic cancer. He was 75.
Meteney served in the Navy for 26 years spanning from November 1946 to June 1972, reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Following his retirement from service, he went to work as the chief engineer at the San Jose (Calif.) Hospital.
He was a past president of the Military Officers Association of America, a life member of the Navy League as well as a member of the Bremerton Elks Lodge No. 1181 and the Kiwanis.
Meteney was born Sept. 11, 1929, to John and Margaret (Wassil) Meteney in New Brighton, Penn. He attended Beaver Falls (Penn.) High School, but joined the Navy before receiving his diploma. He married
Carol Ann (Park) Meteney on Feb. 4, 1967, at the Chapel of the Bells in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife of Port Orchard; son Albert (Joelle) of Portland, Ore.; daughter Karen (John) Hodges of Columbus, Mo.; step-sons Martin (Candy) Larsen of Migalin, Calif., Kurt Larsen and Les Larsen, both of Chico, Calif.; step-daughter Karen (Marty) Luis of Stockton, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ghylin, Galen
Galen B. “Swede” Ghylin died May 30, 2005 in Bremerton. He was 97.
Ghylin was born November 28, 1907 in Wilton, N.D., to John R. and Caroline (Backman) Ghylin. In 1944 he married
Anna Bernice “Pat” (Clark) Krokrich in Wharton, Texas.
Ghylin served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then went on to work as a supervisor of maintenance for the Bremerton School District and retired in the early 1970s.
Ghylin was a member of the Bremerton Elk’s Club and a life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and growing roses. He was a creative engineer who was called on by family, friends and neighbors for his ability to “fix” things. Ghylin also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and was proud of his Swedish heritage.
He is survived by: son Donald Ghylin of California, daughters Dr. Dorothy Ghylin-Bennett (Alex) of Bremerton and Ronda Clark of Nevada; daughter-in-law Lorena “Renie” Ghylin of Tahuya; brother-in-law Clavin Clark of New Jersey; sisters-in-law Lee Clark, Tebaba Clark, Sylvia Potts and Faith West, all of Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, sister Mildred Beck and grandson Donald E. Ghylin, Jr.
At his request, there will be no funeral services. An open house to celebrate his life will be at his daughter’s Bremerton home from 2:30-4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Woodhouse, Neal
Retired Silverdale pharmacist Neal Edward Woodhouse died of natural causes May 8, 2005 at Royalton Court in Kent. He was 86.
A memorial service and reception is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, at Silverdale United Methodist Church where he was a long-time member.
Woodhouse was born May 20, 1918 in Seattle to John and Grace (Bowden) Woodhouse. He grew up in Alki and graduated from West Seattle High in 1936. Four years later he graduated from the University of Washington with a pharmacy degree.
World War II saw Woodhouse join the U.S. Navy and serve as a chief pharmacist mate in Alaska and the South Pacific.
After the war, Woodhouse owned several pharmacies in Seattle before moving to Silverdale to open his last pharmacy which he retired from in 1991.
For nearly 30 years he taught autistic children and young adults how to swim in the Francis Haddon Morgan Center Program and coached Special Olympic athletes. Woodhouse also was active in the Silverdale Rotary Club, serving as the group’s president from 1978-79.
He was preceded in death by his wives Dorothy and Martha. Woodhouse is survived by his son Steve (April) of Lincoln, Mont.; daughter Carol Stockler of Seattle; stepchildren Trudy, Tom and Tammy Turpin; sisters Nancy (Louis) Frohning and Ada (Robert) Hallberg; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
