Lovell, Katherine
Katherine R. Lovell of Silverdale, Wash., died April 29 in Silverdale. She was 69.
Lovell was born July 30, 1934 to Edwin and Ruth (Brown) Rowley in Redwood City, Calif. She graduated from Burlingame (Calif.) High School.
Lovell worked for Pan Am Airlines for 26 years until she retired in 1992.
She married
her husband Joseph Lovell on Sept. 29, 1961, in Waikiki, Hawaii. She loved knitting and cats, especially her cat Coco.
Lovell is survived by her husband Joseph Lovell of Silverdale; her brothers, Richard Teames and wife Lorena of Cambell River, B.C. and James Rowley of Silverdale; her sister, Marlene Kennedy and husband Doran of Keyport; her neices, Taunya Welch and husband Kevin of Bremerton, and Sherry Cordiner and husband Russell of Hansville.
Donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements under the direction of the Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Ferch, Margaret
Margaret L. Ferch of Silverdale died July 9, 2004 at Martha and Mary Health Services in Poulsbo. She was 98.
Ferch, a lifelong housewife and loving mother of Marilyn Drengson of Silverdale and Judith Wingard of Enterprise, Ore., was born April 11, 1906 to John and Anna (Ornau) Baldauf in Wahpeton, N.D. She married
Clifford Ferch on Aug. 12, 1930.
Ferch enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardening, baking and sharing with family and neighbors. A volunteer with the American Cancer Soicety, she also was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters and was preceeded in death by her husband, three sisters and two daughters.

Earl Goody, 76
Earl O. Goody of Bremerton died from an accident Sept. 13, 2006. The retired grocery store manager and steel guitar player was 76.
Mr. Goody spent 41 years in the grocery business, working at Uddenberg’s Thriftway, Red Apple, Gary’s Family Grocery, Tradewell and Safeway. In his spare time he played the steel guitar for a number of county western bands throughout Washington. He was a life member of American Federation of Musicians Local 76 in Seattle.
Mr. Goody was born March 5, 1930 in Bellingham to Fred and Mildren (Bates) Goody. He graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1948 and shortly afterward joined the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of staff sergeant before getting out of the service in 1952.
He married
Jeannie Gilman on Oct. 1, 1980, in Stateline, Nev. She preceded him in death in 1998. He is survived by: daughter Teresa Goody of Aberdeen; stepson Dan Shown of Allyn; stepdaughter Teresa (Bob) Case of Poulsbo; grandchildren Cheryl, Heather, Aaron, Rob and Lisa; and friends Ernie Blind and Patricia Sutton.

Peper, Rose
Former Bremerton resident Rose Lee Peper died Sept. 7, 2006, in Puyallup at the age of 36.
Mrs. Peper was born in Tacoma on March 4, 1970, to Adeline (Torkelson) and Glen Olmsted. A homemaker, she graduated from Bremerton High School in 1988. She married
Michael Peper on June 1, 1991, in Bremerton. The couple lived in Spanaway.
Mrs. Peper enjoyed collecting Looney Tunes Tasmanian Devil items, reading, camping and spending time with her dog Heffer.
She is survived by her husband of the family home; brother Glen Olmsted Jr. of Gig Harbor; sisters Evelyn “Sue” Olmsted, Sandra (Ray Dawson) Olmsted and Samantha Smith, all of Gig Harbor; brothers-in-law Ken Peper and Wes (Amy) Peper, both of Bremerton; sisters-in-law Judy (Ed) Mains of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Ann Peper of Bremerton; nephews Nicholas Olmsted, Aaron Smith, P.J. Smith, Greg and Jeff Mains and Evan Peper; nieces Janell and Haley Peper; and friends Lilly and Ricky Rogers, Brookashley Pauly and Mateo Miller.

Simons, Terrence
Longtime Silverdale businessman Terrence Michael Simons died Aug. 31, 2006, at his Bremerton home. He was 63 years old.
Mr. Simons and his wife Kristi started Silverdale Plumbing & Heating in 1975. In 1997 they moved the business from its original location in Old Town Silverdale to the Fairfield Business Park. Mr. Simons also developed residential and commercial real estate including Huckleridge, Rosewild and Twelve Oaks housing developments and Simons Buildings on Byron Street, Mickelberry Business Park and Fairfield Business Park.
He was born July 9, 1943, in Bremerton to Maurice and Louise (Danielson) Simons. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1962. He married
his wife Kristi (Korb) Simons Aug. 29, 1964, in Silverdale. Mr. Simons was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and spending time at his ranch in Montana. Silverdale Plumbing was a founding donor of the Kitsap Community Foundation. Mr. Simons was a life member of the Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Arizona Elk Society.
He is survived by his wife of the family home; son Blake (Jody) Simons of Roy, Mont.; daughter Kerri (Brian) Simons-Morkert of Bremerton; brother Mark Simons of Poulsbo; sister Laureen Milbrath of Vashon Island; five grandchildren, Rachael and Seth Simons, and Brianne, Haley and Kali Morkert.

Cruz, Evelyn
Evelyn V. Cruz died Aug. 30, 2006, in Bremerton. She was 65 years old.
Mrs. Cruz was a registered nurse at Naval Hospital Bremerton who enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
She was born June 4, 1941, in Taytay, Rizal in the Philippines to Isosceles and Lourdes (Domingo) Valle. She attended Rizal High School and then the University of the Philippines where she graduated with a bachelor’s of nursing degree.
Mrs. Cruz married
Vicente D. Cruz on Oct. 27, 1970, in Bremerton.
She is survived by her husband of the family home; son Vic “Jojo” Cruz III of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren Mckenzie Lee and Hunter Grant Cruz; brother Elmer Valle of Las Vegas; sisters Elfreda, Ellen, and Emy, all of the Philippines, Eleanor, Emma and Ernilda, all of Las Vegas; her Banal Na Pag-aaral family and a circle of long-time friends.
A viewing is scheduled for 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. today, Sept. 2, at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton with evening vigils starting at 8 p.m. through Thursday, Sept. 7, at the family’s home. Mrs. Cruz’s funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Jackson Park Chapel, 90 Olding Road, preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. She will be buried at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton.

Hackett, Walter
Walter M. Hackett Sr. of South Colby died Aug. 26, 2006, at Life Care Center in Port Orchard. A long-time shipyard worker who was involved in a number of community groups, he was 95.
Mr. Hackett was born to Walter and Hester (James) Hackett on July 30, 1911, in Corning, Iowa. He graduated from Red Oak (Iowa) High School in 1931 and attended community college for a time in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He left Iowa at the height of the Great Depression and worked in logging camps in California and Washington. While working on a riverboat in Mount Vernon, he met his future wife, Irene Broeknshire, whom he married
in January 1942 in Portland. She died in 2003.
In 1939, Mr. Hackett went to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 and became a landing barge driver during World War II where he served in the Aleutians and in the battles of Tarawa and Saipan.
After the war he returned to PSNS where he worked for 33 years as a shipwright until his retirement in 1973. Mr. Hackett was involved with a number of organizations, serving as hospital chairman for the Port Orchard and Bremerton posts of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Bremerton and Port Orchard Eagles as well as the South Colby Methodist Church, and was a Cubmaster and Scoutmaster in Bremerton Boy Scout organizations.
He is survived by his sons Walter (Sherry) Hackett Jr. of Bremerton, Gerald (Susan) Hackett of Olalla and James (Barbara) Hackett of Walla Walla; eight grandchildren; nieces Susan Alexander of Silverdale and Dorothy Nuckolls of Red Oak; and nephews Harold Schmeckel of Salem-Keizer, Ore., and Marvin Bailey of Red Oak.
A memorial service was Sept. 1 at South Colby Methodist Church.
Baleto, Raymond
Raymond Topasna Baleto died Aug. 16, 2006 in Bremerton. He was 39 years old.
He was born March 10, 1967 in Guam to Rita (Topasna) Baleto and Vicente Mendiola. He married
Lucinda (Cruz) Baleto on April 20, 2005 in Bremerton.
Mr. Baleto graduated from Bremerton High School in 1986. He worked as a hazardous explosives driver and while in Guam he played drums in a number of bands including L.I.U., Paire, Napu and Compadres. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Mr. Baleto is survived by his wife of the family home; daughters Kirida, Celine, Mariah and Raelynn, all of Bremerton; brothers Frankie (Maryann) Baleto of Arkansas, Greg (Jana) Baleto of Bremerton and Vince Baleto of Guam; sisters June (Thomas) Bird of Gig Harbor, Annie (Rick) Slagle of Texas, Rose (Sherri) Baleto of Missouri, Mary (Tony) Baleto of Bremerton and Josephine Baleto of Bremerton; parents-in-law Johnny and Cecila Cruz of Guam; and in-laws John (Cindy) Cruz, Joseph Cruz, Justin Cruz and Tomasa Grecia, Peter (Jackie) Topasna, Joseph (Laura) Topasna, Lawrence Reyes, Greg Babin, Eddie Acfalle, Freddie (Annie) Aguon, Patsy (Frankie) Sablan, Dee (Tony) Hechenova, Annie (Joey) Cruz, Maria (Narciscio) Edralin, Fran Escanlar and George Topasna.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Joseph and Anthony Baleto.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Aug. 23, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with a viewing beginning at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be in Guam.

Parker, Arline
Arline Knox Parker, 81, of Poulsbo, died Aug. 10, 2006 at Manor Care in Gig Harbor from complications of dementia and cancer.
Mrs. Parker was born Nov. 8, 1924 in Norfolk, Neb., to Merle and Alice (Braasch) Hough. The family lived in Nebraska, Washington and Idaho where Mrs. Parker graduated in 1942 from Coeur d’Alene High School.
She married
Robert Knox on Jan. 25, 1943 in Bremerton. He died in 1975. Mrs. Parker married
her second husband, Burton Parker, on Dec. 11, 1976 in Seattle.
She spent 10 years as an assistant to the executive secretary at Kitsap Physicians Services, retiring in 1975. She stayed active as a member of the Silverdale Garden Club, Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club and the Silverdale Children’s Orthopedic Auxiliary. Mrs. Parker had a great love of music, gardening, reading, home decorating and traveling.
Mrs. Parker is survived by: her husband of Gig Harbor; son Robert (Claire) Knox of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughters Linda Nopp of Bremerton, Kathy (Ron) Miller of Silverdale; stepdaughter Susan (Pat) Worrell of Gig Harbor; sisters Jean (Warren) of Las Vegas and Joanne (Pete) Besas of Blaine, Wash.; nephew Jerry (Doris) Knox of Poulsbo; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law David Nopp and step-grandson Eric Leachman.
A private graveside service was performed at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton. The family is having an open house memorial at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Silverdale Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11070 Old Frontier Road.
Scheving, Stefan
Stefan Arni Scheving died Aug. 4, 2006, in Bremerton after a fight with lung cancer. The Bremerton resident was 82.
Mr. Scheving worked for nearly 40 years as a service engineer and manager for Pitney-Bowles Office Equipment before he retired in 1988. A U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II, he then spent five years as an outside salesman for Ballard Hardware and Supplies.
Mr. Scheving was born June 21, 1924 in Hensel, N.D. to Stefan and Anna (Johnson) Scheving. He graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle in 1943 and attended the University of Washington. He married
his wife, Nancy Mae (Warren) Scheving, of 56 years on July 12, 1950.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, sang in a number of choruses and barbershop groups and was active in the Kitsap County Pool League, the Pitney-Bowles Oval Club and the Hudson-Packard Club. Among his interests were shooting pool, wood carving, bowling, leading Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, repairing and restoring old cars, camping, singing and visiting Iceland where he could speak Icelandic.
Mr. Scheving is survived by: his wife of the family home; sons Johann (Cherly) Scheving of Maple Valley, Stefan (Deann) Scheving of Mountlake Terrace and Ralph (Lisa) Scheving of Bremerton; daughter Nancy (Gary) Absalonson of Spokane; grandchildren Joshua, John, Stefan, David, Christa, Dan, Kenny, Pat, Annie, Sam and Jenny; great-grandchildren Rayne and Stefan; sister Anna (James) Freyberg of Seattle; in-law Ruby Brown of Bremerton; cousin Arni Scheving of Seattle; and friends Ed Bird of Poulsbo and Bodie and Theresa Veil of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Hartje and Sigrid Langrell.

Clough, Lillian
Lillian Clare Clough died Aug. 7, 2006 in Bremerton. She was 102 years old.
Mrs. Clough was born on Jan. 11, 1904 in Peach, Wash. to Wesley and Lillian (Haskins) Balcom.
Her first husband, John Wesley Ungren, died in a logging accident on Nov. 29, 1935. Her second husband, Albert Clough, died on Oct. 21, 1972.
Mrs. Clough, a longtime Bremerton resident, was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden. She preserved jars of produce and crocheted gifts for her family and friends. During World War II Mrs. Clough worked at the Jackson Park Naval Ammunition Depot.
She is survived by: her sons Billy (Evelyn) Ungren of Bremerton, Robert (Carol) Ungren of Bremerton, James (Ellen) Clough of Crosby and Edward (Carol) Clough of Crosby; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons John Wesley Ungren in 2001 and Guy Harold Ungren in 2004.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a private burial at Forest Lawn cemetery. Arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
