Raymond G. Pete Walker - Jan. 18, 2009
Westport resident Raymond Guy Pete Walker died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
He was 81.
He was a millwright for Carpenters Union Local 644 in Pekin, Ill.
At his request, there will be no service.
Cremation arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Willie Lon Nations - Jan. 10, 2009
Willie Lon Nations, 77, a retired timber faller for logging companies here, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Saturday, January 10, 2009.
He was born in Whittier, North Carolina, February 18, 1931, the son of Roy and Dillie (Jones) Nations.
Willie married
Wanda J. Carnes in Jackson Co., North Carolina, June 30, 1953 and they came to the Harbor in 1956.
He had been a timber faller for Morrison Logging, Mayr Brothers and then ITT Rayonier for over 25 years, retiring in 1986.
He had won many awards for his logging skills and had belonged to the A Team at ITT Rayonier.
Willie was an avid hunter of bear, bobcat, cougar and coon and had served many times as a guide in Southwest Washington and on the Peninsula.
Wanda, Willies wife of 53 years, died in Aberdeen in 2006.
He is survived by three daughters: Connie and son-in-law George Yakovich, Sherry Nations and Marcie and son-in-law Dan Holcomb, all of Aberdeen; a brother: Venoy Nations, Barkers Creek, NC; two sisters: Cora Lucille Mitchell, of Lady Lake, Florida and Vera Cyrus, Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, George, Craig, Justin and Joshua Holcomb; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Laynie, Emmersyn, Alyssa and Avery Yakovich.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joey in 1957, two brothers, Jim and Hobart Nations, three sisters: Eula, Velma and Daisy, and a granddaughter, Michelle Yakovich.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Thursday, January 15, 2009 in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
Burial will take place in Fern Hill cemetery.
A celebration of his life will follow at the Alder Grove Church of God, 1800 Coolidge Rd. in South Aberdeen.

Amelia Gores - Jan. 19, 2009
Amelia Gores, 93, a former resident of Aberdeen died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009.
She had currently been living in Federal Way, Wash.
She was born in Wabasso, Minn., on Dec. 31, 1915, the daughter of Anton and Kathrina (Guetter) Kahs.
Amelia married
Fred H. Gores in Wabasso, Minn., June 10, 1946.
They came to Aberdeen in 1956.
They were active members of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Gores died here in 1981.
She is survived by two sons, Ken of Happy Valley, Ore., and Mark of Naples, Idaho; a daughter, Monica Larsen of Mill Creek; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m., until 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Fern Hill cemetery.

Josefina Asas - Jan. 21, 2009
Josefina Labos Asas, 61, an Aberdeen resident, died in an automobile accident near Oakville Wednesday, January 21, 2009.
She was born in Tabunok, Philippines September 11, 1947, the daughter of Carlos and Andrea (Jaca) Labos.
She graduated from high school in the Philippines and attended the University of Visayas there.
In 1970 she married
Perfecto Asas.
They came to the Harbor in 2002.
She had worked seasonally at Ocean Spray, Ocean Beauty, Ocean Gold and Ocean Cold.
She had also worked at a nursing home in Shoreline in Seattle and was presently working at the Mima Nursery.
Josefina enjoyed being with her grandchildren, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and going to casinos.
She liked to sing and her favorite singer was Tom Jones.
She also enjoyed her times at Filipino-American gatherings.
She is survived by her husband, Perfecto, at the family home in Aberdeen; three daughters, Christy Gannon, Aberdeen, and Aysa and Amythes Asas living in the Philippines; five sons, Arckem, Aberdeen and Amor, Allen, Alfie and Ariel Asas living in the Philippines; five sisters, Lerma L. Rubio, Aberdeen and Avelina EnDraquez, Minda Ocaba, Estelita Sabayton and Purification Quizon living in the Philippines; two brothers, Percival and Escolastico Labos living in the Philippines; and also 21 grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church, Hoquiam.
A potluck reception will follow at the church.

Janet McDonald - Jan. 15, 2009
Janet Marie McDonald, 57, an Elder of the Shoalwater Bay Tribe, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the family home in Westport in the arms of her husband, Tim. She was born in Aberdeen March 26, 1951, the daughter of Vern and Ethel (Davis) Bizer.
Janet spent many summers with her Aunt Ruthie on the Shoalwater Bay Reservation.
She graduated from Wishkah High School and earned her LPN certificate at Gays Harbor College and later worked at the Grays Harbor Community Hospital and also at the Kittitas Hospital, Ellensburg.
She married
Tim McDonald in Grayland October 11, 1975.
In 1978 they loaded up the old Ford pickup with their three kids, all their earthly belongings and boarded Alaska Ferry.
They landed in Skagway, Alaska where they were to spend the next 21 years.
Skagway was a special place with special friends for Janet.
She worked at the Trail Bench, a gift shop along Broadway Street, and took care of the owner, Jewell Knapp for many years.
She always called it her home despite moving to Westport over ten years ago.
Later in life, Janet went to work for the Shoalwater Bay Wellness Center which she helped establish.
She was a medical receptionist.
She loved that job and all the people she worked with.
Three years and four months ago Janet was diagnosed with lung cancer.
She fought with a super-human effort through many tough times, but always had a smile and never gave up hope.
Janet was an avid cribbage player and placed 6th in the Alaska State Cribbage Tournament.
She loved to do crossword puzzles with her dad, Vern and was a big fan of her beloved Chicago Cubs.
Besides her husband, Tim, of the family home, Janet is survived by a son, Erik and his companion, Brandi, of Aberdeen; two daughters: MLiss Ayers, of Wilsonville, Ore. and Sarah and husband Keith Beck of Ocosta; her father: Vern Bizer of Enumclaw; two brothers: David and wife Vickie Bizer of Enumclaw and John and wife Connie Bizer of Del Ray Beach, Florida; a sister: Sandra Atkinson, of Bellevue; grandsons: Kobe Beck, Luke, Aiden and Ethan Ayers and a granddaughter, Jenna Ayers; a sister-in-law, Chris and husband Gary Davis, a brother-in-law, Cliff and wife Debbie McDonald, a mother-in-law Elaine McDonald, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel, father-in-law, John Pop Pop McDonald, Aunt Ruthie Davis and nephew Jeff Robertson.
Janet was our angel as well as Mom, Gramma, wife and soul mate.
The family would like to thank her daughter, Sarah for all her loving care and tireless devotion during Moms battle with cancer.
A special thanks to Western Washington Oncology and Radiant Care, the many doctors, nurses and especially Dr. Sui, for letting us have her for Kobes football games and one last Christmas.
Janet was a proud Elder of the Shoalwater Bay Tribe.
A traditional Tribal ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Gym.
Following the ceremony there will be a celebration of Janets life with a potluck at the Wesstport VFW.

Lorraine Luize (Frank) Anderson - Jan. 29, 2009
Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribal Member, Lorraine Anderson passed away January 29, 2009 in Tacoma, Washington.
She had Alzheimers disease for several years.
She was 77 years old.
Lorraine was born in Taholah on the Quinault Indian Reservation to Rachel (Brignone) Frank of Quinault/Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe and Ernie Frank of Nisqually Indian Tribe, June 9, 1931.
She lived on the Shoalwater Bay Reservation as a child, and later attended Chemawa Indian Boarding School.
In 1951 Lorraine married
her one and only love Richard Dick E. Anderson of Sointula B.C.
They moved from Aberdeen to Seattle after the birth of their first two children, so Dick could continue his employment as a longshoreman.
After Dick retired they moved to the Shoalwater Bay Indian Reservation where they built their home on top of Eagle Hill Road.
Lorraine is survived by five children, Lynn Clark, Richard (Sonny), James, Leatta, and Tom Anderson; grandchildren, Richy, Jaimie, Jake, David, Quintin, Jordan, Sophia, Raleigh, Casaundra, John, Kevin, and Kevanna; great-grandchildren, Tamya, Delia, Kianna, Madison, Victoria, Alexie, Jacob; and great-great grandson Tjyden; siblings, Anita Couture, Libby, Lee, George, Frank, and Vernon (Pete) Shipman [whereabouts unknown]; and many nephews and nieces.
Lorraine was a housewife, mother, and Chicha (grandmother) who enjoyed designing and beading Indian artwork and creating and sewing clothing designs and quilts.
She made dolls and created wonderful clothes for the Native American Barbie, and would generously give them away for tribal auctions, or just because.
She loved to socialize and take walks to enjoy nature whenever she had the opportunity.
She treasured children and you could see it in the way she interacted with them.
Even as her Alzheimers progressed her concern was always about caring for the children.
Her ultimate goal in life was that all children be cared for and loved and she volunteered on tribal boards towards that endeavor.
She also worked for the Shoalwater Bay Elders Lunch Program and volunteered for the Shoalwater Bay Tribe as LICWAC (Local Indian Child Welfare Advisory Committee) and the Housing Board.
Lorraine has now rejoined the ones she loved and missed dearly; her father Ernie, her mother and best friend Rachel; her siblings, Verna, Gordon, Raleigh, Joan, Ike, her husband Dick, and her two grandchildren, John and Fern.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am February 13, 2009 at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Center.
At Lorraines request her ashes along with her husbands will be buried between their two grandchildren John and Fern.
Cremation arrangements are through Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Plang Tep - Jan. 23, 2009
Cambodian native Plang Tep, a six year resident of the Harbor, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 78.
A Buddhist funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. Cremation will follow.
