Joyce "Joy" Daniel
Joyce "Joy" Daniel, born August 19, 1928 in Oklahoma, died December 7, 2003 in Ellensburg, WA.
Joy graduated from Sultan High School.
She is survived by her mother Mary Del Daniel of Sultan; brother Donald Daniel; sister Betty (Dick) Swinger; sons, Daniel (Alysse) Hanson, and David (Dorothy) Hanson; daughters Tobe (Steve) Miller, Timi (Dennis) Maloney, and Tabetha Hanson-Taylor; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her ex-husband Bud Hanson.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 11, 2003 at Purdy & Kerr Funeral Home in Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Judith Marie McKean
Judith Marie McKean, a resident of the Stanwood area for 65 years, died Saturday, December 6, 2003, of an aneurysm at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA. She would have been 90 on Christmas Day.
Mrs. McKean is to be cremated. Her ashes will be interred next to her late husband, Felix, in the family plot at Cedarhome Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be announced later.
The McKeans operated a dairy farm two miles north of Stanwood and raised peas as a cash crop. When her husband died in November 1964 and after she had raised five sons, Mrs. McKean went to work in local businesses - a bakery in East Stanwood, the Taxi Inn, Bryant's Hardware, Ovenell's Drive-In and Helen's Kitchen.
After the farm years, Mrs. McKean bought a house downtown. She moved to the Stanwood Senior Center in 1997. After breaking her hip in 2001, she became a resident of the Josephine Sunset Home, where she lived until her death.
Mrs. McKean was born December 25, 1913, in Mount Vernon. She married Felix in Seattle on September 25, 1934.
Survivors include five sons and their wives: Dale F. and Penny of Hillsboro, OR, Gary L. and Irmgard of Kennewick, WA, Terry G. and Joan of Stanwood, Wayne L. and Chris of Kenmore, WA, and Michael C. and Julie of Vacaville, CA. Mrs. McKean leaves 12 grandchildren: Keith McKean of Portland, OR, Shannon McKean of Gresham, OR, Michelle Edwards of Hillsboro, OR, Jodi McKean of Sherwood, OR, Bruce McKean of Gig Harbor, WA, Tanya Morales of Spokane, WA, Jeff McKean of Port Townsend, WA, Laury McKean of Seattle and Timothy and Diana McKean of Vacaville, CA. She also has 14 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood.
The family asks that any donations go to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or the Josephine Sunset Home, both in Stanwood.
Margaret J. McAlpin
"Jeanne"
Jeanne McAlpin passed away December 8, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born to Wini and Andrew Mardesich on January 19, 1934 in Everett, WA. She graduated from Everett High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked for prosecutor Phil Sheridan in Everett as a legal secretary. A few years later, she moved to Spokane and lived and worked there for 20 years. She moved to Tacoma in 1983 where she again worked as a legal secretary for Allan Billett and Chris Keay until finally retiring in 2001.
Jeanne's zest for life and boundless energy were qualities admired by many. Shopping was her favorite pastime and was evident in the flawless way she dressed.
She greatly enjoyed watching football, playing backgammon and checkers. Jeanne's non-judgmental and open attitude will be missed by her many friends.
She leaves her companion, Paul Carter; children, Andrew McAlpin of Spokane, Robert McAlpin of Arizona and Letitia McAlpin of Seattle; grandchildren, Felicia and Alex McAlpin of Spokane; mother, Wini Mardesich of Everett, WA; her favorite aunt, Mini Sumich; dear friend of 52 years, Eleanor Vincent of Tacoma; as well as many other cherished friends.
Her father, Andrew Mardesich; and favorite uncle, Nick Sumich, preceded her in death.
The family wishes to extend its sincerest gratitude to Paul Carter for his undying love and constant care of Jeanne, to Jodi Hall for coming when we needed an angel most, and to Franciscan Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2003 at 2:00pm at the 1002 South Yakima Avenue Chapel.

Marlene Lewison Leary
Marlene Joan Leary passed away December 4, 2003 at Providence Hospital, after a long battle with M. S. Marlene was born October 13, 1933 to Ben and Ida Lewison. She resided all of her life in the Everett and Marysville areas.
Marlene is survived by her son, Mike; sisters, Barbara Richards and Marge Thornton.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Ida Lewison.
A memorial service will be held at the Saint Mary's Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2003, in Marysville WA.

Mary Ann Gent
Dec. 2, 1945 - Dec. 6, 2003
Mary Ann Gent was born in California. She spent most of her adult life in Washington. Mary Ann was active in the banking world and an avid bowler.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Tina and Tom (Diana); grandchildren, Krystal and Travis; mom, Arvy; her canine son, Spike; her friend Nancy and his friend Hutch; plus many very good friends.

Myrna L. Lamkin
Myrna L. Lamkin, 76, of Snohomish, WA, died December 6, 2003 in Snohomish.
She was born March 29, 1927 in Minot, ND, moving to Iowa in 1940, graduating from Davenport High School. She moved to Washington in 1949, and married Ron Lamkin in 1954. Myrna was a charter member of Christ The King Lutheran Church and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of the Seattle Swing Dance Club.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Kevann of California; granddaughter Danielle Lamkin of Everett; brother Ken Anderson of Enumclaw; and sister and brother-in-law Maren and Dale Bedal of Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ron; parents Lloyd and Frances Anderson; and sister Yvonne Anderson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 13th at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Hewitt Ave. and SR 9. Visitations will be held on Thursday and Friday from 10:00am until 5:00pm at Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish. Private burial will be held at G.A.R. Cemetery.

Myrtle Frances Kleid
After 96 years of a life lived with grace and dignity, Myrtle Frances Lembke Kleid passed away on December 3, 2003. She was born June 10, 1907 in Wilmington, California to a pioneering family in the area.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert W. Kleid.
Myrtle was a long time resident of Bellingham where she raised her family and has resided the past 32 years in Snohomish with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Scheldrup.
She is survived by her five children; Carolyn (Robert) Scheldrup, Kathleen (Howard) Strickland, Peter (Bonni) Kleid, Leatha (Steve) King and Kristen (Jerry) Smith; ten grandchildren, Mark (Melinda) Strickland, Diane Moore, Jon (Audrey) Scheldrup, Christopher Scheldrup, Danny and Janin Kleid, Scott King, Thale (Jeff) Steenhoven, Jamie (Erica) Rothenbuhler and Robert Smith. There are also six great and great great grandchildren.
Myrtle was a truly lovely lady, a caring mother, wife, friend and neighbor. All who knew her will miss her independent and generous spirit.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Naida I. Minch
Naida I. Minch, born in Michigan on December 5, 1928, passed away December 6, 2003.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil I. Minch, whom she married in 1949.
Naida worked at Everett General Hospital as a dietitian.
She is survived by five children, Larry Minch and Gary Minch, both of Kent, WA, Linda (Richard) Renford of Spokane, WA, Sandra Minch of Everett, and Nancy Adams of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
There will be private family service.
Donations in her memory can be made to Snohomsih County Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
Patrick Timothy Reed
On December 7, 2003 the Seattle Mariners lost their biggest fan, Patrick Timothy Reed.
Patrick was born on March 28, 1956 in Lynwood, CA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Vicki; children, Joe (Samantha), Andy, Katie (Jacob) and Monica (Eric); granddaughter Valarie; his brothers, Dave, Mike, Jim, Tom, John and Will; brother-in-law Bob Temple; sister-in-law Jane Reed; and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Harriett Reed; brothers, Barney and George; and sisters, Linda and Kathleen.
He had a zest for life and true devotion to his faith. Patrick was active in his church community, loved watching his children and granddaughter grow up and was involved in all their activities. Patrick was a professional photographer and started his own business, Visual Images Professional Photography. He was a founding member of the SNAPL Youth Baseball League. He touched many lives with his jokes, wit, and his unconditional heart.
A Rosary is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 6:00pm with the Funeral Mass to be held on Friday, December 12th at 10:00am, both at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2619 Cedar Street, Everett. A reception will follow the Mass at the church with Interment following at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.

Pearl L. Murray
Pearl L. Murray, a long-time resident of Snohomish County, passed away December 5, 2003 in Marysville, WA at the age of 87.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Murray on February 10, 1995.
Pearl is survived by her two sons, Jim and his wife Linda Murray and Jerry Murray; two grandchildren, James and Nathan; a nephew Earl Reposa; and a niece Norma Jean Reposa.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Evergreen Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA.

Ray M. Coleman
Ray Coleman was born in New Mexico on December 8, 1913 and died at 90 years of age on December 8, 2003 in Snohomish, WA.
Ray was a 32-degree Mason with the Whidbey Island Lodge.
His wife Virginia preceded Ray in death on October 18, 2003.
He leaves behind his son-in-law Phil Trotter of Yakima, WA; his niece Carol Biggs of Kirkland, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 11:00am at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville, WA.

Robert Lawton Cooper
May 8, 1912-Dec. 5, 2003
Robert Lawton Cooper, 91, of Everett, passed away December 5, 2003 after a brief illness.
Robert was born in Pueblo, Colorado on May 8, 1912, the son of Ernest and Bertha Cooper. He attended grade school and high school in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in political science in 1934.
Robert was a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve (Retired); he served with the Fleet Marine Force for six years during World War II, and his combat experience included Johnston Island and Iwo Jima, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. After a brief journalistic career with the Newberg Graphic in Portland, Oregon, he joined the Office of Civil Defense. He came to Everett in 1959 to help open the Region Eight Office where he subsequently served as State Chief of Washington Field Operations, Director of Plans and Operations, Director of Field Operations, and Program Analyst. Cooper retired in l972 after 24 years of Federal service.
Robert was a member of the Everett Golf and Country Club and Trinity Episcopal Church. He married Margaret Davis Cooper (deceased, '96) in l944, and is survived by their daughter Judith Cooper Haden of Seattle, and his grandsons Andrew Cooper Haden and William Christian Haden, both of Seattle.
A Memorial Service for Robert Lawton Cooper will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at 4:00pm at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Sandra Holman, born May 16, 1946 in Brainerd, MN, died December 7, 2003 in Kirkland, WA.
Sandy is survived by her husband Bob Holman; son Jeff Creswell; daughter Sheri Seaward; sons, Dennis (Lena) Holman and Craig Holman and Colleen Holman; mother Mary Melnick; sister Brenda Simpson; brother Gary (Patti) Melnick; step sister Bonnie (Dick) Trissell; grandchildren, Cody Holman, Bobbi Seaward, Jennifer Creswell and Jessica Holman; numerous nieces and nephews; and lots of good friends.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2003 at 11:00am at St. Mary of the Valley Catholic Church in Monroe, WA.

Sarah Ann Reed
Sarah Ann Reed, born January 13, 1971, died December 2, 2003 at home in Everett, WA.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Rishah; father, Denny Crawford, former husband Sean Reed; daughter, Crystal Villien; son, Timothy Reed; sisters, Sonja White, Rebecca Hendrickson; and brother, Eric Ebert. She had four uncles, Frank, John and Jim Gaswint and Tom Crawford; aunt, Katie DeVore; and cousins, Shane, Ben and Justin Gaswint and Jenny Stevenson.
Sarah loved the time she lived in Whitefish, MT, meeting her grandfather, Cecil Zachary and other aunts, uncles and cousins. Family was of the utmost of importance to Sarah. She loved her children dearly. Sarah loved each and every friend as though they were family. She always helped everyone with love and no hesitation.

Timothy D. Ponton
Nov. 19, 1929 - Dec. 6, 2003
Tim Ponton of Lynnwood, WA passed away peacefully on December 6, 2003 at Swedish Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; son Greg and his wife Teresa; daughter Mary; son Mark and his wife Elaine; son Andrew and his wife Antoinette; son Daniel and his wife Miriam; 11 grandchildren, Sara, Ashley, Jeffrey, Autumn, Jaclyn, Amber, Nicole, Curtis, Annika, Andre, and Eric; and great grandson Devlan. He is also survived by a sister Joyce Valdivia and brothers Jim and Dave Ponton.
Tim was born in Elgin, NE and married Rita in 1955 in Long Beach, CA. He joined the Coast Guard at age 17 and retired at age 43 with 26 years of service. He recently retired from St. Thomas More Catholic Church after 18 years of service as groundskeeper. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, golfing, and was active as a member of C.W. Forever (a radiomen organization).
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8:30pm on December 10, 2003 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6511 - 176th SW in Lynnwood, followed by a Funeral Mass on December 11, 2003 at 10:30am.
Remembrances in lieu of flowers, may be given to the St. Thomas More Building Fund.
