Wilma J.W. Heckman

"I made my dedication to Jehovah God in a raspberry patch!" These words often spoken by Wilma exemplified her life, her love for God and the beauty of this earth. Wilma J.W. Heckman fell asleep in death on 23rd of May 2003. Wilma was born in Whatcom County on July 29, 1933, to William and Eunice Wessel, Jehovah's Witnesses. Wilma herself was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the age of 7 in 1940. Even at that young age she understood the significance of that dedication. She married David G. Heckman, the man she adored for the rest of her life, on June 9, 1956. David treasures their years together and he will miss the delightful companionship she gave him, even during the last years of illness. They raised four sons together: Jeffrey Alden, Kevin Lane, David Jonathan, and Joel Andrew. The "boys" remember their mother as a teacher of spiritual truths and as one whose most frequently spoken words to them were, "I love you son." Her four daughters-in-law, Loraine, Linda, Monica and Mary; her three grandchildren, Amber, Autumn and Kaleb; her sister Judi Melseth and brother Larry Wessel, as well as other family members and many, many friends will miss her lovely welcoming smile and her graciousness.

Wilma's faith in her creator's grand promises strengthened her every day. She never wavered in her belief in the earthly resurrection as promised by Jesus Christ and made possible through his ransom sacrifice. (John 5: 28,29) During her illness, she took comfort from the promises of a time when "the lame one will leap just like the stag does" (Isaiah 35:6) and "no resident will say I am sick." (Isaiah 33:24)
