John Walter Addie

Longtime Port Townsend resident John Walter Addie died at Jefferson General Hospital at age 87.
He was born in Pine Ridge, S.D., to William E. and Anna B. (Krotz) Addie.
Services: Today, Sept. 5, 5 p.m., memorial service at First Baptist Church, 1202 Lawrence St., Port Townsend, with Pastor Skip Cadorette officiating.
Private interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery.

Felix Theodore Charging Whirlwind Jr.
May 28, 1957 - Sept. 1, 2003
Former Port Angeles resident Felix Theodore Charging Whirlwind Jr. of Rosebud, S.D., died of cancer at age 46.
He was born to Felix Theodore Charging Whirlwind Sr. and Madeline Mae (Whitehorse) Charging Whirlwind in Rosebud.
He married Sheryl Ann Charles in Port Angeles on June 20, 1985.
He attended college at Sinte Gleske in South Dakota, and returned to Port Angeles in 1998.
Mr. Charging Whirlwind was a member of the Baha'i Native American Church.
Survivors include his wife; sons Joseph Lyle Charging Whirlwind and Emmanuel James Charging Whirlwind, both of Port Angeles; daughters Helen Mae Charging Whirlwind of Port Angeles and Christina Mae Charging Whirlwind of South Dakota; four brothers; seven sisters; and eight grandchildren.
Services: Today, Sept. 5, 2 p.m., memorial at Unity in the Olympics Church, 2917 E. Myrtle St., Port Angeles.
Gary Melendy, chairman of Baha'i of Port Angeles, and Pat Bennett, state elder of the Shaker Church, will officiate.
Additional services will be held in Rosebud, S.D., where burial will be in Rosebud Cemetery.
Harper-Ridgeview Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Olga Amelia Hermann
March 10, 1905 -- Sept. 3, 2003
Longtime Sequim resident Olga Amelia Hermann died in Sequim at age 98.
She was born in Chodlin, Minsk, Russia, to Wilhelm E. and Caroline A. (Ludke) Hermann.
She came to the United States in 1913 with her mother and two siblings to join her father, who had immigrated in 1911 and sent for them when enough money was saved.
The family settled in North Dakota.
Miss Hermann graduated from high school in Wildrose, N.D., then earned a bachelor's degree from Western Washington University, Bellingham, and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
She taught school in North Dakota for 13 years before moving to Washington in 1940.
She then taught in the Sequim School District for 31 years, retiring in 1972.
Although she never married, Miss Hermann was close to her many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Port Angeles; Lutheran Layman's League; Upsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society; and the Retired Teachers Association.
Miss Hermann was named an honored pioneer of the Sequim Irrigation Festival in 1995.
Survivors include a brother, Ted W. Hermann, and a sister, Emily Gallacci, both of Port Angeles, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Herman and Gottlieb Hermann, and two sisters, Caroline Hermann and Elsie Woodside.
Services: Friday, Sept. 5, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitation at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Memorial service Saturday, Sept. 6, 2 p.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 132 E. 13th St., Port Angeles.
Pastor Philip Ritter will officiate.

Mary Louise Gasper Larson
Feb. 12, 1937 -- Aug. 11, 2003

Harvey Dale Owen
March 6, 1909 -- Sept. 4, 2003
Port Angeles resident Harvey Dale Owen died from complications of Alzheimer's disease at age 94.
He was born to Edgar and Stella (Tibbets) Owen in Snyder, Okla.
The family moved to Erie, Kan., and later to Branson, Mo., where he graduated from Branson High School in 1927.
He then was employed by the Missouri Highway Department.
In 1934 he received a civil service appointment to the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and was promoted to lieutenant in 1941.
He continued his career at seven different federal penal institutions for a total of 34 years.
He married Elizabeth Anne ``Betty" Parks in Branson on Sept. 4, 1936.
He joined the Army in 1943 and was sent to Europe in 1944.
As a sergeant he led his squad of combat military policemen ashore at Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion, later assisting in the liberation of the concentration camp at Dachau.
He remained in Austria until the cessation of hostilities.
After World War II, returned to federal prison service until retirement in 1968.
The family moved to Port Angeles in 1969.
Mr. Owen was active in Port Angeles senior citizens activities, a member of Eagles Lodge No. 483, Elks Naval Lodge and the American Legion.
He was also affiliated with Port Angeles Community Players and the Port Angeles Symphony.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Lambert Balducci, all of Port Angeles; and two grandsons.
Services: Sunday, Sept. 7, 2 p.m., memorial at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles.
The Rev. Michael Carr will officiate with participation by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1024.

Carole Jean Campbell

Carole Jean Campbell died at her Cape George home at age 74.
She was born in Spokane to Henry and Helen (Kehler) Mackley.
She moved to Port Townsend in 1992 after the death of her husband.

Margaret Marlow Howard Hedin
Dec. 16, 1909 - Sept. 4, 2003
Port Angeles resident, Margaret Marlow Howard Hedin died at age 93 of Alzheimer's disease.
Born to Oscar and Mamie (Marlow) Howard in Port Crescent, she graduated as salutatorian of the Crescent High School class of 1927.
She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington School of Education and Business Administration on June 8, 1940.
She married John Louis Kaseberg in August 1931.
The marriage ended in divorced in 1940.
She married Ralph Theodore Hedin in Port Angeles in September 1970.
He died Feb. 8, 1998.
Survivors include stepson Basil Hedin of Port Angeles; sister Ferne Elliott of Seattle; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Clifford H. Maybee
June 15, 1915 -- Sept. 3, 2003
Clifford H. Maybee died in his Port Angeles home at age 88.
He was born in Port Angeles to Henry W. and Susan M. (Machenheimer) Maybee.
He graduated from the eighth grade at Lost Mountain School.
Mr. Maybee married Alma Bolling on July 3, 1938, in Brewster.
Mr. Maybee worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps and also as a high rigger in the logging industry.
He lived in Bellingham and Mount Vernon before returning to Port Angeles four years ago.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge in Mount Vernon, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife in Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Bob Clark of Stanwood and JoAnn and Don Fisher of Lake Stevens; brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Gladys Maybee of Port Angeles; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Berneace Swegel and Alice Murray Koshman.
Services: Visitation Monday, Sept. 8, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Graveside service follows at 1 p.m. in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 at Monroe Road, with the Rev. Mike Jones of Independent Bible Church officiating.
A reception follows the service at Drennan-Ford Funeral Home.

Frank William Rausch
Sept. 3, 1908 -- Aug. 25, 2003
Former Clallam County resident Frank William Rausch died at age 94 in Prineville, Ore.
Mr. Rausch was born in Sedro-Woolley to William and Constance Rausch.
The family moved to Pysht in 1916.
He attended high school in Everett, Port Angeles and Joyce.
He later completed a correspondence course in diesel engine mechanics.
He married Shirley Wasankari in Bremerton in 1932.
Mr. Rausch operated a diesel log yarder for Merrill & Ring at Pysht before leaving to work on public works projects on the Missouri and Columbia rivers.
He moved to Prineville, Ore., in 1971.
He is survived by his wife of Prineville; sons David A. Rausch of Bigfork, Mont., and Frank E. Rausch of Brush Prairie; sisters Connie Dunlap and June Rennebohm, both of Port Angeles; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one grandson.
Services: 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, Joyce Bible Church, 50470 Highway 112, Joyce.
His ashes will be interred at Port Crescent Pioneer Memorial Cemetery near Joyce.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept., 6 in Prineville, Ore.
