LeJeune Whitney
July 25, 1921 -- Aug. 20, 2003
Sequim resident LeJeune Whitney died in Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, of a brain aneurysm. She was 82.
She was born in Springville, Utah, to Lewis Jotham and Frances Evaline (Henderson) Whitney.
She was a graduate of the University of Oregon.
During World War II, she served with the Women's Army Air Corps in 1942-45, and was discharged with the rank of captain.
She married Carl T. Griffith in August 1945. He died in 2000.
Ms. Whitney was a national magazine editor and owned her own business, LeJeune Inc. She also worked for Hewlett Packard as a media manager and training specialist in community relations.
Before coming to Sequim, Ms. Whitney lived in Salt Lake City and Sunnyvale, Calif.
In addition to photography and computer graphics, she enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She was a member of Olympic Peaks Camera Club and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include son Carl Whitney Griffith of Winlock; brothers William A. ``Bill'' Whitney of Ogden, Utah, and Joseph L. ``Joe'' Whitney of Orem, Utah; and one grandchild.
Services: Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m., memorial in Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane. Friends are invited to gather with memories. Funeral and graveside services with military honors were held in Provo, Utah. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Carl Eugene Amundson
July 19, 1919 -- Aug. 31, 2003
Carl Eugene Amundson died in Port Angeles at age 84.
He was born in Minneapolis to Alfred E. and Coral May Gorman.

Linda May Burrows
Feb. 5, 1948 -- Aug. 29, 2003
Port Townsend resident Linda May Burrows died of surgical complications at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton. She was 55.
She was born in Miami, Okla., to Hallard Blaine and Ada Louise (Yell) Spurgeon.
A lifelong homemaker, she moved to Port Townsend five years ago.
Services: Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, 11 a.m., funeral service at Calvary Chapel, Port Townsend. Burial to follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery. Kosec Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Townsend, is coordinating service arrangements.

Hazel L. Foley
Sept. 4, 1925 -- Aug. 31, 2003
Port Angeles resident Hazel L. Foley died of cancer at the residence of her daughter in Port Orchard. She was 77.
Born in Beaver Falls, Pa., she lived in Port Angeles from 1971 until her death.
Her maiden name was Kile, and she had married Robert Foley in the 1960s. He died on March 2, 1998.
Mrs. Kile was a Lutheran, baptized in Port Orchard.
She was also a former grange member, did house painting, was a bingo player, a member of Homemakers of Clallam County and enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include sons Mike Schneider of Oregon and Bob Foley of Seattle; daughters Darla Agtarap of Montana, Marilyn Boe of Port Orchard and Pat Smith of Port Angeles; 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Autumn Hendershot and brother Bill Kile.
Services: No services announced. Cremation by Acme Cremation of Port Orchard.

Geraldine Eloise Haubrich
April 18, 1927 -- Sept. 1, 2003
Lifelong Clallam County resident Geraldine Eloise Haubrich died of cancer in Seattle. She was 76.
She was born in Carlsborg to Freeland Swain and Mable (Potter) Runnion.
On June 1, 1945, she married Albert Allen Haubrich in Bothell. He died on Jan. 1, 1998.
Mrs. Haubrich was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She collected various articles of memorabilia.
A lifelong resident of Port Angeles and part-time resident of Lake Ozette, Mrs. Haubrich belonged to Friends of Lake Ozette and Navy Mothers.
Survivors include sons Richard E. Haubrich of Tokeland and David A. Haubrich of Chehalis; son and daughter-in-law Ronald A. and Doretta Haubrich of Vancouver, Wash; daughter and son-in-law Charlene and John Morgan of Spokane; brothers Henry Runnion and Charlie Runnion, both of Port Angeles; sister Vera Meyer of Tacoma; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Services: Thursday, Sept. 4, noon to 5 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 5, 9 a.m. to noon, visitation, followed immediately by memorial service, all at Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Jon Fodge will officiate.

Dorothea Genevieve `Jennie' Reader
Jan. 26, 1926 -- Aug. 31, 2003
Sequim resident Dorothea Genevieve ``Jennie'' Reader died at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles of congestive heart failure. She was 77.
She was born in Spokane to Roy Asa and Dorothea (Cook) Pryor.
On July 21, 1945, she married Eugene C. Reader in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Reader worked as a welder for McDonnall Douglas, and also at Peter Pan's, Tom-Tom's Clock Drive-In and Lucky Stores in Long Beach, Calif., and at Payless in Port Angeles.
Mrs. Reader enjoyed teaching dance, tailoring clothes and being a ``collector of everything.''
Mrs. Reader enjoyed company and loved her flowers and animals.
She belonged to the Retail Clerks union.
Survivors include her spouse; sons Michael C. Reader and Timothy S. Reader and daughters Carol D. Reader and Teri Reader, all of Sequim, and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Thursday, Sept. 4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. visitation at Sequim Valley Chapel, 108 W. Alder St., Sequim. Friday, Sept. 5, 2 p.m. funeral, also at Sequim Valley Chapel, followed by graveside service at Sequim View Cemetery, 1505 Sequim-Dungeness Way.
Carl Eugene Amundson
July 19, 1919 -- Aug. 31, 2003
Port Angeles resident Carl Eugene Amundson died of cancer at the age of 84.
He was born to Alfred Edward and Coral May (Gorman) Amundson in Minneapolis.
After attending high school, he worked for the Boeing Co. until the beginning of World War II.
During the war, Mr. Amundson served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a stateside supply clerk and a radar installation technician while in the South Pacific.
After the war, Mr. Amundson married Ramona Cruse on July 6, 1948, in Port Angeles.
He worked in the logging industry as the cutting supervisor (bullbuck) and as a sorting yard foreman for the ITT Rayonier Northwest Timber Division. He retired in 1983 after 36 years of employment.
Mr. Amundson enjoyed hunting and fishing, and because of his knowledge and expertise of the Rayonier lands, he often served as a guide for elk and deer hunters.
He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his small farm in Dry Creek.
Mr. Amundson was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of Dry Creek Grange, and a past member of the Port Angeles Elks Naval Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years; son and daughter-in-law Carl M. ``Sandy'' and Marleen Amundson of Forks; daughter and son-in-law Marcie and John Fendler of Port Townsend; daughter Mary Lea Amundson of Port Angeles; brothers Fred O. and Richard Amundson, both of Port Angeles, James Amundson of Sequim, and Kenneth Amundson of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.; sisters Edna Wilson of Custer and Delora Wagner and Ina Williams, both of Port Angeles; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Amundson was preceded in death by brother Hans Amundson and sisters May Duval, Bertha Serette and Berdina Scott.
Services: Sunday, Sept. 21, 2 p.m. memorial at the Dry Creek Grange, 3130 W. Edgewood Drive, Port Angeles. The Rev. Omer Vigoren will officiate. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse William `Bud' Dougherty
Dec. 10, 1918 -- Aug. 19, 2003
Sequim resident Jesse William ``Bud'' Dougherty died of congestive heart failure at Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sequim. He was 84.
He was born to Belle Ray and Margaret Caroline (Sonnenberg) Dougherty in Sunnyside.
He married Emma Brashears in Bellevue on March 7, 1947.
Mr. Dougherty attended Washington State University at Pullman for one year, then for 28 years he was a truck driver in Seattle.
Mr. Dougherty enjoyed reading and walking, and was a member of Sequim Bible Church and Teamsters Local 174. He was also a member of Sequim Grange for 25 years
Survivors include his wife and daughters Debbie Dosey and Karen Brockmeier, all of Sequim; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dougherty was preceded in death by brothers Jack Dougherty and Wesley Dougherty, and sisters Charlotte Holmes and Margaret Muench.
Services: None. Cremation arrangements by Miller-Woodlawn of Bremerton.
Olga Amelia Hermann
March 10, 1905 -- Sept. 3, 2003
Longtime Sequim resident and former teacher Olga Amelia Hermann died at age 98.
She was born in Minsk, Russia.

Robert W. Tarpley
Dec. 28, 1940 -- Sept. 2, 2003
Port Angeles resident Robert W. Tarpley died at age 62.
He was born in Butte, Mont., to Harrison and Betty Ann (Ackerschott) Tarpley.
He married Carolyn L. Person in Seattle on Dec. 29, 1961.
Mr. Tarpley served in the Navy as a first class petty officer in Barbers Point, Hawaii, and on USS Kearsarge in the 1960s.
He was director of quality control for the Eli Lily Corp., lived in Redmond and Monroe, then moved to Port Angeles 10 years ago.
Mr. Tarpley, an avid golfer, was a member of Dungeness Golf Club. He also was a rock hound and enjoyed traveling in his RV.
Survivors include his wife of Port Angeles, daughter Bobbi Ann Gibbs of Stanwood, and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by son Michael W. Tarpley in 1980.

EDWARD ANTHONY `TONY' CRITTENDEN
2003-09-05
November 14, 1956 -- August 29, 2003
Edward Anthony ``Tony'' Crittenden of Copalis Beach, Wash., passed away in Forks, Wash., at the age of 46.
He was born on November 14, 1956, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Hobart Henry Crittenden and Fulvia Dominguez.
He attended Augusta Technical College in Augusta, Georgia, where he graduated in Drafting/Design, Vocational School Certified as an Automotive Technician, and was a second-year biology major at Grays Harbor Community College.
He served in the U.S. Army, 1974-1975, as a private at Fort Lewis, Wash.
After an extensive career in the Engineering Department of Lamb-Grays Harbor, Tony successfully established his own drafting/design business known as Critter Corp.
Tony lived in Grays Harbor for 23 years. He was a respected member of the Grays Harbor community. His accomplishments include: laying the groundwork for the improvement of Copalis Beach's water quality, as well as the revival of its economic stability through the unending pursuit of the stabilization of Conners Creek.
He was also passionately pursuing the degrees necessary to become involved in the Natural Resources Technology Program of the local area. Tony maintained the esteemed grade-point average of 3.84.
Tony will be forever remembered for his leadership qualities, and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Ian Anthony Crittenden of North Augusta, South Carolina; daughter Fulvia Dawn Crittenden of Lincolnton, Georgia; sisters Debra K. Johnson of Woodland, Wash., and Susan M. Nelson, Portland, Ore.; grandchild Coral Madison Crittenden of North Augusta, South Carolina; and fiancé, Beverley Cromwell.
Services: There will be a celebration of Tony's life today, September 5, at the Lions Club in Ocean City. The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. with a potluck to follow. Everyone is welcome to attend.
