Catherine L. McKelvie
March 17, 1911 -- June 13, 2003
Sequim resident Catherine L. McKelvie died in Port Angeles Care Center at age 92.
She was the daughter of Ann Duff Mackie in Leven, Fife, Scotland.
She married George Brown McKelvie in Scotland on July 10, 1936.
Mrs. McKelvie moved to England in 1947 and immigrated to the United States in 1963. After first living in California, she moved to Sequim in 1989.
Mrs. McKelvie worked as a legal secretary and shop owner. She also had a continuing interest in culinary arts and published a Scottish cookbook while in her late 70s.
She belonged to the Methodist Church. Her pastimes included sewing and reading.
Mrs. McKelvie is survived by her son, Ian B. McKelvie of Sequim, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband died Feb. 21, 1962. She was also preceded in death by a son, David M. McKelvie.
Services: None. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge.
Bruce Miles Hammond
Feb. 20, 1943 -- June 14, 2003
Former Peninsula resident Bruce Miles Hammond died in LaConner at age 60 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Forks to Albert Bruce and Gernie Pearl Hammond, and attended Forks High School.
Mr. Hammond worked for Foss Maritime in Port Angeles, and was also a shingle sawyer.
Mr. Hammond's marriages to Vera Dysart and Georgia Harter ended in divorce.
He is survived by son Jake James Hammond, daughter Shelea Hammond and brother John Pierce, as well as sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Jerry Jagger, all of Port Angeles; and five grandchildren.
Son Shane Hammond died in 1990.
Services: Sunday, June 22, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Celebration of Life in Monterra Clubhouse, 22 Circle Drive, Monterra. Cremation Society Northwest, Lynnwood, is in charge.

Norma Hart
March 15, 1929 -- May 30, 2003
Former Port Angeles resident Norma Hart died of lung cancer in her Tacoma home at age 74.
She was born to Italian immigrants Jim and Nicholina M. ``Mickey'' (Eusanio) Feola in Powell River, British Columbia.
In 1938, the Feolas came to Port Angeles, where they operated Mount Angeles Court Motel at First and Front streets from 1938 to 1975.
After attending Port Angeles High School, where she was a cheerleader, she graduated from University of Washington and completed nursing school at Swedish Hospital, Seattle.
Returning to Port Angeles, she worked as a maternity nurse in Olympic Memorial Hospital.
She married Raymond Hart of Grafton, N.D., in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Port Angeles in 1953.
Mrs. Hart is survived by her husband of 50 years; son Richard ``Ric'' Hart; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Matt Guss; brother and sister-in-law Ron and Vivian Feola of Seattle; and three grandsons.
Services: July 12, Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. in the Guss home, 6602 Flanagan Road W., Lakewood. Bleitz Funeral Home, Seattle, was in charge of cremation.
Memorials: Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 12721 30th Ave. NE, Suite 101, Seattle, WA 98125. The family requests no flowers.
Barney L. Murphy
Feb. 14,1917 -- June 10, 2003
Barney L. Murphy, who died of respiratory failure at age 86, was a Forks resident. His obituary was published June 11 on Page A8.

Betty Louise Roeser Uhrich
Nov. 3, 1930 -- June 13, 2003
Former Peninsula resident Betty Louise Roeser Uhrich died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gherig's disease) in Wenatchee. She was 72.
Born in Seattle to William Henry and Lillian Regina (Owen) Powell, she graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1949.
Mrs. Uhrich taught preschool in Port Townsend as well as other small schools for 17 years.
She was a member of Independent Bible Church.
After 25 years in Port Angeles, Mrs. Uhrich spent the past year in the Wenatchee area.
Her 1952 marriage to Dick Phelps ended in a 1970 divorce. Other marriages were to Fred Violess Roeser in 1972 who died in 1990, and James Uhrich in 1992 who died in 1995.
Mrs. Ehrich is survived by daughters Sandi James of Kent, Annette Johnson of Wenatchee and Collette Wilson of Port Angeles, and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Samuel Owen Mays, Floyd Gerald Mays and John Hardy Mays, and by sisters Marion Gertrude Minish and Mayabell Ellen DeWitt.
Services: Monday, June 23, at 3 p.m., memorial in Trinity Church. 624 Kittitas St., Wenatchee, with Pastor Gene Helsel officiating. Services will be held on the Peninsula later. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen D. Williamson,
April 12, 1915 -- June 16, 2003
Longtime Port Angeles resident Kathleen D. Williamson died in her home at age 88.
She was born in Yukon Territory to Thomas and Anna (Mayovski) Chernut.
Services: Private family service. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Charles Harrison Winter Jr.
July 2, 1930 -- June 15, 2003
Charles Harrison Winter Jr., 72, died of cancer in his Sequim home.
He was born in Mulhall, Okla., to Charles H. and Celeste Winter.
He married Patricia Carle-Daarud in Rochester on Oct. 14, 1988.
Mr. Winter's career included 20 years in the Army, work with the state Department of Transportation and several years with home missions before retiring in September 1999.
As a Christian and member of the Sequim Community Evangelical Free Church, he was interested in every phase of church work. He also enjoyed woodworking.
In addition to his wife, survivors include sons Dennis Winter and Kenneth Winter, both of Steilacoom; stepsons Mike Daarud of Durham, Calif., Dallas Daarud Jr. and Matt Daarud, both of Centralia; daughters Suzanne Foust of Olympia, Julie Hemenway of Centralia, Karen Nein of Pendleton, Ore.; stepdaughters Pamela Daarud and Melissa Smith, both of Centralia; brother Clyde Winter of Escondido, Calif.; sisters Etta McKinney of Shasta Lake City, Calif., Juanita Tolleson of Atlanta, Texas, Juliet Crenshaw and Leta Gatchell, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Helen Roeben and Goldie Fry, both of Visalia, Calif.; 30 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sons Michael and Timothy, grandchild Shauna Daarud and brother Cleo.

In loving memory of GERALDINE GRAEF
. . . mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who passed away June 22, 2003.
She was born January 26, 1909, in Zumbrota, Michigan, graduated from the University of Washington and married Edward Graef in 1934.
They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary together in 1991.
She was an active member of the Sequim Presbyterian Church for 28 years.
She was preceded in death by Edward.
They have five children, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Geraldine will be greatly missed.
Lewis Bonner Adkins
March 29, 1909 -- June 30, 2003
Sequim resident Lewis Bonner Adkins died at age 94.
He was born in Columbus, Neb., to Orlo G. and Bessie (Bonner) Adkins.
He was raised in Stratton, Colo., where he graduated from high school in 1929.
He married Helen Deakin in Vona, Colo., on May 12, 1934.
During World War II he served in the Air Corps.
He lived in Colorado, where he was employed by the state, until 1968.
Mr. Adkins earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Washington University in 1971, and taught for most of his life, three years in Forks, as well as in Newhall, Calif., and Colorado. He retired in Newhall and moved to Sequim in 1979.
He belonged to Fairview Bible Church, and The Gideons International.
Survivors include daughter Jnell Thompson of Port Angeles; sister Burnelle Horton of Alma, Neb.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Services: Thursday, July 3, 2 p.m. memorial at Fairview Bible Church, 385 O'Brien Road, Port Angeles. The Revs. Jack Clapp and Dave Bryant will officiate. Burial at Ocean View Cemetery. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Michelle Lynn `Shelley' Campion
June 8, 1978 -- June 27, 2003
Michelle Lynn ``Shelley'' Campion succumbed to complications of cerebral palsy and seizure disorder at age 25.
She was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Michael John and Deborah Lynn (Olson) Campion.
She moved to Sequim with her family in 1988, graduated from Sequim High School, where she attended special education classes, in 1999.
Miss Campion enjoyed bowling with the Special Needs Advocacy Parents (SNAP) recreation club and taking walks with her grandmother.
She belonged to the Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim and was an active member of the SNAP recreation club.
Survivors include her parents and longtime live-in caregiver, Tracy M. Wilson, all of Sequim; grandparents Lorna Olson of Poulsbo and Jim and Donna Campion of Sequim; and brother Dustin M. Campion of Sequim.
Services: Tuesday, July 1, 1 p.m., visitation, followed by 2 p.m. services at Sequim Valley Chapel, 108 W. Alder St., Sequim. A reception will follow at Pioneer Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim.

Irma A. Irwin
Aug. 26, 1905 -- June 26, 2003
Sequim resident Irma A. Irwin died at age 97.
She was born in Bellingham to Charles B. and Addie (Hibbard) Pride.
She attended one year at Bellingham Normal School, now known as Western Washington University.
She was a homemaker with particular interests in painting, reading and playing games. She also enjoyed living on Lake Crescent.
She was a member of the Worldwide Church of God of Sequim.
She is survived by a son, Milan Irwin, of Bellingham, four grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Don Irwin.
Services: At her request, none. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Frank Merritt
Sept. 8, 1952 -- June 22, 2003
Donald Frank Merritt died of cancer in his Port Hadlock home at age 50.
He was born at St. John' Hospital in Port Townsend to Byron Frank and Wanda Norine (Twiggs) Merritt.
A 1971 Chimacum High School graduate, he spent four years in the Navy serving on the carriers USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Enterprise as a transmitter operator, followed by two years in the Naval Reserve.
Following his military service, he attended Chabot College in Hayward, Calif.
He married Jeanie Byrne; they later divorced.
Mr. Merritt was a warehouse foreman until moving to Port Hadlock in 1992.
His enjoyed world travel, camping, fishing, building model sailboats, gardening and clam-digging.
Survivors include mother, W. Norine Knoepfle of Port Hadlock; brothers Kenneth R. Merritt and Karl Keogan of Port Hadlock; stepbrother Willie Knoepfle Jr. of Discovery Bay; sister DeAnna R. Osmer of Chimacum; and stepsisters Winnie Greenaway of Sequim and Kaye Clark and Susan Bianchi of Olympia.
He was preceded in death by his father, sister Kathleen A. Weitz, and stepfathers Clayton Keogan and Willie Knoepfle Sr.
Services: No services. Interment will be in the family plot in Chimacum. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
