Melvin Carlson
Feb. 24, 1922 -- June 2, 2003
Melvin Carlson died of cardiac arrest in Port Angeles at age 81.
He was born in Fullerton, N.D., to John and Ella (Gamber) Carlson.
He married Jeslyn Potter in Oakland, Calif., on July 8, 1946.
Besides serving in the Navy, Mr. Carlson was self-employed as an appliance parts supplier in Fresno, Calif.
He enjoyed square dancing, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; daughter Lynne Gurnsey; stepson Ivison Pierson; brothers Herbert, Vernon, Clayton and Ward Carlson; sister Doris Ulmer; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Floyd Carlson and sister Frances Harpham.
Services: Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m., graveside inurnment in Ocean View Cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. The Rev. David Moffitt of First Christian Church will officiate. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jean Lavonne Frambach
June 15, 1925 -- June 2, 2003
Jean Lavonne Frambach died in her Port Townsend home from complications of Parkinson's disease. She was 77.
She was born in Port Townsend to Herschel and Marjorie (Lloyd) Myers.
She married Raymond Calver in 1942. He died in 1943.
She married Robert L. Frambach in Tacoma on Nov. 22, 1944.
The Frambachs lived in Clatskanie, Ore., then moved to Skagway, Alaska, where Mr. Frambach was a railroad engineer.
Mrs. Frambach helped raise five grandchildren in Skagway until her husband retired in 1979. They moved to Hansville.
Seven years ago, when her husband was diagnosed with cancer, they moved to Port Townsend. He died on July 11, 1999.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Raymond R. and Linda Calver of Skagway, Robert L. Jr. and Kristi Frambach of Seattle, and Patrick L. and Laura Frambach of Bellingham; daughters and sons-in-law Diane L. and George Orth of Port Townsend and Terri L. and Robert Hoovan of Port Hadlock; brother and sister-in-law Robert L. and Mona Myers of Hansville; brother-in-law Fred Sands of Port Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by sister Elizabeth Sands.
Services: No services are planned. Arrangements by Kosec Funeral Home of Port Townsend.
Carlyle Carpenter `Lyle' Lovewell
March 18, 1908 -- June 1, 2003
Former Quilcene resident Carlyle Carpenter ``Lyle" Lovewell died in Oak Harbor at age 95 after a battle with pneumonia.
He was born in South Lyon, Mich., to pioneers Scott and Asenath (Carpenter) Lovewell.
Mr. Lovewell married Grace Margaret Cardwell in 1931. She died in 1993.
Mr. Lovewell's career in public school work took him many places, and he retired in 1973 as dean of guidance at Ventura College in Ventura, Calif.
The Lovewells moved to Quilcene in 1981. In 2001, he relocated to Oak Harbor Retirement Community to be near his two children.
Mr. Lovewell is survived by daughter Karen Jane Olinger, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His son, Michael Douglas Lovewell, died in 2001.
Services: Private family services were held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, was in charge of arrangements.
Curtis Wilson
Aug. 12, 1919 -- June 1, 2003
Curtis Wilson died in his Port Angeles home at age 83.
Born in Burlington to Ephriam Harrison Wilson Sr. and Jeanette (Brown) Wilson, he came to Port Angeles at an early age.
He married Florence Peggy Smith in Port Angeles on Nov. 30, 1940.
Mr. Wilson was a logger who also fished commercially in Alaska.
His hobbies included beach combing, clam digging, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; son William Harrison Wilson of Sequim; daughters Janet Marie Wallace of Seattle, Betty Jean Parnell of Obion, Tenn., Peggy Bea Dire of Port Angeles, and Joyce Etta Olesen of Gig Harbor; sister Beatrice McNew of Diamond Springs, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ephriam Jr., William and Daniel Wilson.
Services: Private graveside service was held June 4 in Ocean View Cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St. Officer Thomas Kuch and Lt. William H. Wilson officiated. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene A. Haynes
April 4, 1924 -- June, 5, 2003
Sequim resident Eugene A. Haynes died in Port Angeles of a heart attack. He was 79.
Mr. Haynes was born in Wheeling, W.Va., to Lorenzo Wetzel and Mary Elizabeth (Tribett) Haynes.
In World War II he served in the Navy, and later served in the Merchant Marine.
Mr. Haynes moved to Sequim from Tucson, Ariz., in 1985.
He was formerly an officer in the Civil Air Patrol, Washington Wing Headquarters, at McChord Air Force Base, near Tacoma. He was retired from civil service with the Navy Department.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was also a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Sequim Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Haynes volunteered as a scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America for more than 30 years, and held various positions at the Mount Olympus District level. He earned the Silver Beaver Award.
Survivors include spouse Cindy Blankenship of Sequim; sons and daughters-in-law Keith E. Sr. and Carla Haynes of Port Angeles, and Bruce A. and Teresa Haynes of Smithfield, N.C.; sons Richard L. Haynes of Sequim and George E. Haynes of Baltimore; sister Ruth Walters of Ripley, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: Tuesday, June 10, noon to 8 p.m., visitation at Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Visitation continues in Sequim on Wednesday, June 11, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, immediately preceding the 2 p.m. funeral service at the church, 815 W. Washington St., Sequim. Bishop Christopher King will officiate. Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ripley, W.Va.
Gabriel Owen Alexander Heineman
June 21, 1980 -- June 4, 2003
Chimacum resident Gabriel Owen Alexander ``Gabe" Heineman died in a motorcycle crash in Bremerton. He was 22.
He was born in Port Angeles to Terry Gilbert and Flavia Cazette (McKenzie) Heineman.
Mr. Heineman graduated from Chimacum High School in 1998, where he was captain of Chimacum High School's Nisqually League championship football team.
He was named All Nisqually League for both offense and defense. The Seattle Times ranked him one of the top 100 football players in the state.
Following high school, he continued to play football with the Bremerton Orcas semiprofessional team. His other activities included weightlifting and bicycling.
Mr. Heineman also found comfort in Bible study and attended Calvary Chapel in Port Townsend.
Survivors include his parents of Chimacum; grandmother Marie McKenzie of Langley, British Columbia; brothers and sisters-in-law Aaron and Thea Heineman of Juanita and Jason and Malena Heineman of Auburn; and sister Lydia Heineman of Langley.
Services: Tuesday, June 10, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitation at Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend. On Saturday, June 14, 2 p.m., celebration of life at Calvary Chapel, 13474 Airport Cutoff Road, Port Townsend. The Rev. James Rosenquist will officiate.

RYAN BRADFORD DECKER
March 12, 1978-June 9, 2003
Ryan Bradford Decker was born to Jim and Patty Decker on March 12, 1978, in Forks. As a result of a vehicle accident in Forks, he died on June 9, 2003, in Seattle.
Ryan was a 1996 graduate of Forks High School, and also graduated from the Forestry Training Center at the University of Washington in 1996 with his Instructor's certificate. Ryan worked at Sherico Cedar Products as a shingle packer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all other outside activities. He ``Worked Hard" and ``Played Hard."
Ryan is survived by sons Colby Bradford Decker, 2 years old, and Crew Steven Decker, 6 months old, both of Forks; parents Jim and Patty Decker; grandparents Guy and June Decker of Forks; and grandparents Tom and Mary Johnson of Concrete, Wash.; brother Jim Decker of Beaver; and sister Theresa Parker of Forks.
Ryan is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, one nephew and a whole town of friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church on South Forks Avenue in Forks, and will be officiated by Pastor Bob Schwartz. Burial at Forks Cemetery.

Bruce Russell Bishop
Nov. 6, 1945 -- June 5, 2003
Bruce Russell Bishop died of liver failure in his Port Angeles home at age 57.
He was born in San Francisco to Allen and Jane Louise (Russell) Miller.
He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy who served aboard the USS Galveston as a shipfitter in 1966-69.
Mr. Bishop graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1973-74 with master's degrees in naval architecture and business administration.
After a 26-year career with Chevron Corp., he retired and moved to Port Angeles in 1999.
Mr. Bishop, who enjoyed traveling, visited more than 50 countries, in addition to being a resident of the Ivory Coast in Africa in the 1980s.
He is survived by sister Anne Weber of Portland, Ore.; one nephew and one niece.
Services: Cremains were scattered at sea by the Coast Guard, with Drennan-Ford Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Solveig H. Bleecker
Nov. 26, 1923 -- June 9, 2003
Sequim resident Solveig H. Bleecker died of brain cancer at age 79.
She was born to Howard Albert and H. Margrethe (Dahl) Peterson in Bisbee, N.D., where she graduated from high school.
She then lived in Spokane and Seattle before moving to Sequim.
Her 1941 marriage to Orman Keith Scobba ended in divorced in 1959.
She married Clarence Bleecker in Seattle on Nov. 16, 1963.
Mrs. Bleecker was a mother, homemaker, secretary, bookkeeper and retail clerk.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, tutoring grade-school children and watching birds and other animals.
She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Bleecker is survived by sons O. Keith Scobba Jr. of Sequim and Jeffry L. Scobba of Woodinville; daughters Randi E. Curtis of Cathlamet and Virginia D. Scobba-Slack and Constance Reneau, both of Seattle; brothers Henry H. Peterson of Hawaii, Rolf A. Peterson of Tacoma and Mark E. Peterson of Washington; sister Helga Peterson of Florence, Ore.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Leon Kent Scobba and sisters Constance L. Bjornson and Margrethe E. Peterson.
Services: Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m., memorial in Faith Lutheran Church, Fourth Avenue and Cedar Street, Sequim. Olympic Cremation Association is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Carl Foss
Aug. 17, 1940 -- June 3, 2003
Port Angeles resident Ronald Carl Foss died of coronary artery disease at age 62.
He was born to Carl Henry and Florence Ida (Domboski) Foss in Trenton, N.J.
He married Carol Anne Seaman in Trenton on Jan. 5, 1963.
Mr. Foss was a 20-year veteran of the Coast Guard, who came to Port Angeles for duty aboard the cutter Campbell in 1974.
He attended Peninsula College, Western Washington University and City College, and received a master's degree in business administration and a master's in education.
He taught for Peninsula College at Clallam Bay Correctional Center.
Mr. Foss was a four-term past president of the Clallam County Genealogical Society as well as belonging to National Sojourners and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; sons Brian Foss of Homestead, Fla., and Ken Foss of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers Robert D. Foss of Oregon and Alan W. Foss of West Virginia; and sister Carol A. Foss of West Virginia.
Services: Masonic service will be announced later. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
