Thomas Alexander Kreger
Oct. 21, 1917 -- March 30, 2003
Thomas A. Kreger of Port Angeles died at age 85.
He was born on Stuart Island to Norman L. and Ruth (Laughlin) Kreger.
He joined the National Guard in 1942.
Mr. Kreger lived in Ashland, Ore., Houston, Texas, and Jackson, Miss., before moving to Port Angeles.
His first business venture was OK Rubber Welders, later known as Big 10 Tires. He later built and operated a cedar sawmill in Port Angeles. He was also a mechanic.
Mr. Kreger enjoyed reading, camping, boating, fishing, beachcombing and traveling.
Marriages to Tudy Head in 1939-48 and Shirley Stanton in 1951-75 ended in divorce.
He married Karen Mary Waldron, who survives him, on March 13, 1985.
Other survivors include son Ronald Alexander Kreger of Wasilla, Alaska; daughters Joy Ruth Adams of Lacey, Kathy Lynn Lunderville of Moses Lake and Susan Penelope ``Penny" Godwin of Herndon, Va.; stepsons Doug Grall of Stanwood and Charles Grall of Gulfport, Miss.; stepdaughter Teresa Thanem of Renton; brother Robert L. Kreger of Arizona; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Peggy Tuck and brother Harold O. Kreger.

Virginia H. Libera
June 16, 1915 -- March 29, 2003
Port Angeles resident Virginia H. Libera died of heart failure at age 87.
She was born in Richmond, Va., to Harold Hall, posthumously, and Myra (Kingman) Hall. She traced her American lineage to the early 1600s.
After completing high school and attending a finishing school on the East Coast, moved to southern California.
She married Laurence Saldecke in California on June 18, 1938. The Saldeckes moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, and divorced in 1948.
After her second marriage, which was to David M. Libera of Winona, Minn., she moved to Port Angeles in 1953.
Mrs. Libera was an artist who filled her home with plants and cats. In the 1960s, she was an active member of the Peace Committee, protesting U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Mrs. Libera worked as a secretary and Avon representative.
Her husband, David, died on Thanksgiving 1992.
She was also preceded in death by son Lad Libera, who was born Ladis J. Hall and died Sept. 7, 1969, and brother Donald Preble.
Mrs. Libera is survived by son and daughter-in-law Mike and Cindy Libera of Port Angeles, and six grandchildren.
Services: To be announced. Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Bremerton, was in charge of cremation.

Daniel Stephen Moriarity
Sept. 3, 1950 -- April 1, 2003
Daniel Stephen Moriarity of Sequim died of bone cancer at age 52.
He was born in Chicago to John Joseph and Shirley Louise (Alvine) Moriarity, who survive him.
He earned a bachelor of science degree at the University of Michigan and master of science in fisheries at the University of Washington.
He served with the Navy as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Fanning during the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1973.
He married Michelle Mitchell in Sequim on Sept. 29, 1979. They divorced in 1996.
Mr. Moriarity was wildlife program manager for 19 years at Graysmarsh Farms in Sequim and an environment consultant for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife until 2003.
Mr. Moriarity is survived by sons Ryan and Darin Moriarity, both of Port Angeles; and sister Nancy Moriarity of Texas.
Services: No services. Olympic Cremation Association, Port Angeles, is in charge.

Harry Erhardt Petersen
Feb. 15, 1919 -- April 2, 2003
Harry Erhardt Petersen, who was born in Denmark to Erhardt and Harriet (Jensen) Petersen, died in his Sequim home at age 84.

Mary Stella Pramos
April 20, 1915 -- April 1, 2003
Mary Stella Pramos died in her Port Angeles home of heart failure. She was 87.
She was born in Fleming, Ky., to Nicola and Angelina (Jurich) Trivich.
She was a leadwoman and facilitator with Goodyear Aircraft during World War II.
She married John Pramos in 1944 in Akron, Ohio, where she was a member of St. Demitrius Church.
Mrs. Pramos also lived in Cleveland and Florida before moving to Port Angeles.
Her favorite pastimes included playing pinochle. She was a participant with Golden Agers at the Port Angeles Senior Center.
Mrs. Pramos is survived by brother and sister-in-law Nicolas and Iyone Trivich of Port Angeles, and sister-in-law Angie Trivich of Irvine, Calif.
Her husband died in 1991.
Services: Memorial reception will be announced later. Cremains will be buried in Tarpon Springs, Fla. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Bert E. Tuttle
July 21, 1911 -- April 1, 2003
Bert E. Tuttle died in Stanwood at the age of 91.
Mr. Tuttle was born to Carle D. and Lenna (Hinton) Tuttle in Seattle, where he lived until he was 5 years old when the family moved to Winesap. When he was 12 years old he moved to Port Townsend.
He married Francel Marie Short in Port Townsend on March 22, 1934.
Mr. Tuttle retired from Crown Zellerbach after 47 years.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, travel, history, reading, woodworking and visiting with family and friends.
Mr. Tuttle was a member of Elks, the papermakers union, Toastmasters and Scouts.
Survivors include special friend Alta Kram; sons Robert E. Tuttle of Brinnon and David Leon Tuttle of Port Townsend; daughter and son-in-law Carol Ann and Kenneth Moore of Stanwood; daughter-in-law Bonnie Tuttle of Leeds, N.D.; brother Willis Tuttle of Seattle; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in May 1992, son Ronald Tuttle, grandson Ronnie Tuttle, brother Karl Tuttle, and sister Warda Eames.
Services: Funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Kosec Funeral Home with grandson David Moore officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at Elks Lodge No. 317, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend.

Gladys M. Pollanz
May 31, 1908 -- March 28, 2003
Port Angeles native Gladys M. Pollanz died in Port Angeles at the age of 94.
She was born to David and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Christopher, and graduated from Port Angeles High School, salutatorian in her class.
She married Reginald Ruffles in early 1930 and they built Ruffle's Court Motel, which is still in business on East First Street in Port Angeles.
In the early 1940s, she married Percy Pollanz. He died in 1981.
Mrs. Pollanz loved Port Angeles, where she lived for all her lifetime.
She enjoyed salmon fishing, crabbing, gardening, managing her investments and playing bridge with friends.
Her neighbor, Lori Madison, was an important part of her life and, in her last months, her caregiver, Susan Treider, and her nurse, Marty Melcher, were as well.
Survivors include nephew Chris Staehli and niece Ralene Walls, both of Seattle.
Services: No services. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Gary A. Hilbert
July 22, 1937 -- April 1, 2003
Port Ludlow resident Gary A. Hilbert died of heart failure at age 65.
He was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to John A. and Stella M. (Meyer) Hilbert.
Mr. Hilbert was raised in Roseberg, Ore., moving to the Oregon coast in 1960. When he started his real estate career in 1960, he was the youngest licensed real estate salesman in the state.
He opened Lincoln City Realty, at the age of 24, in 1962, becoming the youngest real estate broker in Oregon.
He married Kathleen A. Sprong in Lincoln City, Ore., on July 18, 1971.
His real estate career spanned 43 years. At the time of his death, he was owner/broker of Port Ludlow Property Sales.
He lived in Port Ludlow since 1983.
Survivors include his wife of Port Ludlow; sons and daughters-in-law Guy and Cheryl Hilbert and Don and Susie Hilbert of Salem, Ore.; stepson and his wife Michael and Nanette Jensen of San Jose, Calif.; stepson Patrick Jensen of Astoria, Ore.; stepdaughter and her husband Kathleen and Gary Baker of Tillamook, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ralph E. Myatt
Nov. 10, 1921 -- April 3, 2003
Sequim resident Ralph E. Myatt died in Port Angeles from complications of pneumonia. He was 81.
He was born in Bellingham to Earl and Diantha (Sheldon) Myatt.
Mr. Myatt served in the Navy from 1941 to 1946.
He worked as a certified public accountant, bookkeeper and notary public in Bellingham for more than 55 years. He was a resident of Sequim for two years.
He married Maudine P. Loop in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Oct. 11, 1975.
Mr. Myatt is an honorary life member of the Bellingham Elks Lodge and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He also belonged to United Commercial Travelers.
Mr. Myatt enjoyed crossword puzzles and time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law Darryl and Rhonda Pewitt of Bellingham; daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Greg Little of Sequim; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Lois Shaw.
Services: Saturday, April 12, 2 p.m. graveside service at Bayview Cemetery, 1420 Woburn St., Bellingham. Officers of Bellingham Elks Lodge will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the Bellingham Elks Lodge No. 194, 710 S. Samish Way, Bellingham.
Harold E. Whitman
May 28, 1932 -- April 7, 2003
Longtime Port Angeles resident Harold E. Whitman died from cancer at age 70.
He was born in Doty to John Albin and Nan (Lundbeck) Whitman.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles in 1950.
He married Gladys Larson in Port Angeles on July 11, 1953.
He was an Army corporal with Alaska communication systems from 1952 to 1955.
He was a Peninsula Plywood shareholder from 1951 to 1972, and a commercial fisherman on FV Ardie from 1973 to 1991.
Mr. Whitman enjoyed sport fishing, hunting, clamming, camping and carpentry. He belonged to the Port Angeles Senior Steelhead Club.
Survivors include his wife of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Lori Jean and Jon Jacobs of Clarkston and Joan Ella and Colin Green of Washington D.C.; daughter-in-law Gay Lynn Whitman of Port Angeles; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son John Eric Whitman, infant son Alan Whitman, and brothers Lorence and Stanley Whitman.
Services: Thursday, April 10, 1 p.m. funeral at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
