Marilyn Ruth Roth
July 2, 1924 -- Sept. 21, 2002
Forks resident Marilyn Ruth Roth died at age 78.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Otto Henrey and Florence (Gumbaugh) Lang.
She married Kenneth Roth in St. Louis on June 24, 1950.
Mrs. Roth lived in Utah and New Mexico before moving to Forks in August 1988.
She was a full-time homemaker and loved animals, especially cats.
In addition to her husband, survivors include sons Paul E. and Otto H. Roth, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tim E. Roth of Las Cruces, N.M., Chris A. Roth of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Daniel F. Roth of Forks; daughter Jennifer L. Roth of Rio Rancho, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Thursday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m., memorial in St. Anne's Catholic Church, 531 Fifth Ave., Forks. Mount Olympus Funeral Chapel, Forks, is in charge of arrangements.
Harry E. Ruhs
Dec. 15. 1915 -- Sept. 20, 2002
Port Angeles resident Harry E. Ruhs died in Olympic Medical Center at age 86.
His obituary will be published later.

JUDITH ANN JAMES PETTERSEN
Judith Ann James Pettersen, 62, died peacefully from complications of a stroke on Sept. 26, 2002, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, surrounded by her friends and family.
She was born May 30, 1940, in Port Angeles to William O. and Dorothy G. James. Judy attended Port Angeles Schools and graduated from PAHS in the class of 1958.
Judy was active in the First United Methodist Church, Soroptimist and PAHS class of 1958. Judy enjoyed golf, skeet shooting, crocheting, traveling and visiting with friends and family.
Judy lived life to the fullest, and loved her family, friends and pets. She will be truly missed by all.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy G. Alton; two sisters, Gail A. Tate and Sandra L. Garrison of Port Angeles; son Richard D. Bennett Jr. of Okanogan, Wash., daughters and sons-in-law Victoria L. Benson and Jim of Kent, Wash., Denise A. Thompson and Gary of Okanogan, Wash., and Wendy L. Gregory and Don of Stanwood, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her best friend, Ruthie Wyman of Port Angeles, also survives her.
She was preceded in death by her father, William O. James, her second husband, Gary L. Pettersen, and her aunt, Mina Saari.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church at Seventh and Laurel streets in Port Angles, Wash., with Pastor Graham Hutchins and the Rev. John Maxwell officiating. Lunch will be served in the Church Social Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund has been set up in Judith's memory through Soroptimist International of Port Angeles, noon group. Donations can be made to the Judith Pettersen Scholarship Fund, in care of Gail A. Tate, 3711 Crabapple Place, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
John Martin Brennis
Oct. 22, 1936 -- Sept. 27, 2002
John Martin Brennis died at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles at age 65.
Mr. Brennis was born in Everett to Russell and Betty (Bergerson) Brennis.
He married Ann D. Newton on Dec. 26, 1959.
Mr. Brennis graduated from Everett High School in 1957 and attended Northwest College from 1957 to 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962 as a specialist four in ordnance in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Mr. Brennis, who enjoyed gardening, was a funeral director in Aberdeen and Everett. He also resided in Mukilteo and Wenatchee.
He was a member of Joyce Bible Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Everett and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of Port Angeles; son Gary Martin Brennis of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter Cheryl K. Fischer of Weaverville, Calif.; mother Betty Brennis of Everett; brothers Larry Brennis of Snohomish, David Brennis of Las Vegas, and Richard Brennis of Tucson, Ariz.; sister Pam Brown of Everett; and five grandchildren.
Services: Memorial service at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Joyce Bible Church with reception following at the church. A private burial

Karl T. Erickson
May 30, 1910 -- Sept. 23, 2002
Port Townsend resident Karl T. Erickson died in Enumclaw at age 92.
He was born in Roslyn to Herman and Alma (Westberg) Erickson and worked as a coal miner there until World War II, when he served as a private in the Army from 1942 to 1945.
After the war Mr. Erickson married Elizabeth ``Nan" Smith in Seattle and worked for Benaroya Construction until he retired to Port Townsend in 1975.
He was an avid hiker and fisherman.
Mr. Erickson is survived by nieces and nephews and sisters- and brothers-in-law. His wife died in 1994.
Services: Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., funeral in Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery.

Laurence O. Halseth
April 4, 1931 -- Sept 26. 2002
Laurence O. Halseth of Port Townsend died at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton at the age of 71.

John Robert Longo
Jan. 28, 1947 -- Sept. 26, 2002
Sequim resident John Robert Longo died at age 55 following a long illness.
He was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., to Guy Joseph and Irene (Graham) Longo.
From 1967 to 1969, he served as a machinist in the Navy.
He married Jane Leeds in Mahopac, N.Y., on June 1, 1968.
Mr. Longo was employed by IBM Corp. as a facilities project manager, retiring in 1992. After then, he worked for Morrison-Knudsen until 2000.
In 2001, the Longos moved from Beaverton, Ore., to Sequim, where he was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Longo's survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Kim, of Seoul, South Korea; his parents of Austin, Texas; brother Alan Longo of Puyallup; and one grandchild.
Services: Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m., memorial in Sequim Presbyterian Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave.. The Rev. Ralph Kieneker will officiate.

Thomas John Parr
Jan. 25, 1947 -- Sept. 21, 2002
Former Peninsula resident Thomas John Parr died of respiratory failure in Sacramento, Calif. He was 55.
Born in San Diego to Thomas Eldon and Jacqueline Jean (Sheedy) Parr, he graduated from Port Angeles High School in June 1966 and later worked for Peninsula Plywood.
With a two-year absence for active duty with the Navy, which included two tours in Vietnam, he remained a PenPly employee for 22 years. He then moved to California.
Mr. Parr was a member of International Woodworkers of America.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
Mr. Parr married Madeline Lang Francis in 1971; they divorced.
In 1986, he married Cherrie Rose, whom he also divorced.
His survivors include daughters Laurie Hutchings and Debbie M. Hunt, both of Port Angeles, and Patricia D. Harper of Aragon, Ga.; his parents of Port Angeles; brothers Rick Parr and Robert Parr of Port Angeles; sister Lori Huser of Port Orchard; and six grandchildren.
Services: Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., memorial in Calvery Chapel, 3570 W. Edgewood Drive, Port Angeles. Potluck will follow. Cremation was under the direction of Evergreen Memorial of Sacramento, Calif.

Helen J. Brunner
March 9, 1910 -- Sept. 27, 2002
Helen J. Brunner died in her Port Townsend home following a short illness. She was 92.
She was born in Ismay, Mont., to Harry and Bertha (Fruit) Millison.
She married George H. Brunner in Moore, Mont., on Aug. 9, 1928.
The Brunners moved to Seattle in 1941 and to Port Townsend in 1972.
Mrs. Brunner had a lifelong interest in music and was an accomplished pianist. Later in her life, she became interested in gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Harriet Brunner of Port Townsend. In addition to her husband, who died May 22, 1977, Mrs. Brunner was preceded in death by brother Leon Millison and sisters Louise Millison and Lois Edwards.
Services: None, at her request. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park, Seattle, Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, was in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn J. Daniels
Feb. 9, 1931 -- Oct. 2, 2002
Marilyn J. Daniels died in her Sequim home at age 71.
Mrs. Daniels was born in Port Angeles to William T. and Pearl (Hooker) Alton.
She married Creighton C. Daniels in June 1950. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Daniels graduated from Sequim High School and attended Oregon State University and the University of Washington. She worked in the insurance business for Peter Black, Werner Davis and Jim Carl.
She was an avid bowler.
Mrs. Daniels was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Sequim, Eastern Star and Soroptomist International.
Survivors include sons David B. Daniels of Seattle and Don Daniels of Sequim; daughter Mary Jo Daniels of Sequim; brother Bill Alton of Port Angeles; and three grandchildren.
Services: Memorial at Paradise Restaurant, 703 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Eunice Lorraine Jones
March 18, 1920 -- Oct. 3, 2002
Longtime Forks resident Eunice Lorraine Jones died at the age of 82.
She was born in Phoenix to Hausen Alonzo and Bessie Emma (Melhuish) Cochran.
On Dec. 19, 1939, she married Alton Harold Jones in Forks. He died in 1969.
Mrs. Jones was a bookkeeper for several logging companies and for Clark's Vagabond Restaurant for 30 years, until her death. She also worked at Forks State Bank for many years.
She loved gardening, beachcombing and painting. Her yard was chosen as a ``yard of the year." She taught painting and continued to take art classes until her death.
Mrs. Jones belonged to the Forks Congregational Church, the Bogachiel Garden Club and Forks Old Timers Club.
Survivors include son H. Dean Jones of Kingston; daughter Judith Rae Bagby of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Jesse Monroe Cochran and William Henry Cochran and sister Leona Mae Kallman.
Services: Tuesday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m. visitation at the Congregational Church of Forks, 280 Spartan Ave., Forks, where a Celebration of Life will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Dave Weddington will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Angeles Memorial Park. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Frances N. Anderson
Dec. 29, 1912 -- Sept. 28, 2002
Frances N. Anderson of Port Hadlock died of congestive heart failure at age 89.
She was born in Davenport to Lucius Delray and Alta Ocean (Yaryan) Desso.
She was raised in Spokane and married Curtiss Buren Anderson July 20, 1930, in Little Falls. Mr. Anderson died July 12, 2000, days before the couple's 70th wedding anniversary.
After their marriage, the Andersons lived in several places before settling in Grangeville, Idaho. In 1963, the family moved to the Irondale/Port Hadlock area.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker and an avid reader who enjoyed games of all kinds, especially bingo and card games. She also liked to crochet afghans.
Survivors include daughters Alta Marlow and Penelope Gonzales, both of Port Hadlock, and Patricia Bird of Lynnwood; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Yaryan, a sister, Dorothy Nobach, and a grandson, Scott Bird.
Services: Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m., memorial potluck remembrance gathering at Oddfellows Hall, Rhody Drive, Chimacum. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Chimacum. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge.
