MARION A. BRANDLAND
Feb. 18, 1914- Sept. 9, 2002
Marion A. Brandland, 88, died in her Port Angeles home Monday, September 9, 2002.
She was born on February 18, 1914, in Aitkin, Minn., to Perry John Gustafson and Emma Florence Conrad Gustafson. She married Edward O. Brandland on August 21, 1948.
Marion was a licensed practical nurse and started her career at Hay and Davidson Hospital. She continued her work at Port Angeles General Hospital and Olympic Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by sister Georgia Brown of Port Angeles, niece Judith Koechel of Minneapolis, nephew Larry Brown of Port Angeles, and many more nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, on October 30, 1965.

Rand Apgood
Dec. 1, 1925 -- Sept. 12, 2002
Surrounded by family, Dr. Rand Apgood died in his Sequim home at age 76 of myelogenous leukemia.
He was born in Salt Lake City to Elmer Willis and Fay Marie (Shelton) Apgood.
He joined the Army, serving as a medical lab technician at Letterman Hospital in San Francisco from 1946 to 1949.
Dr. Apgood attended University of Arkansas Medical School from 1956 to 1960, after which he did his internship in Toledo, Ohio, in 1960 and 1961. His residency in Little Rock, Ark., was from 1965 to 1968.
Fellowships followed in the fields of mammography, arthrography and CT scan at San Francisco and North Carolina.
From 1961 to 1965, Dr. Apgood had a general practice in Yreka, Calif.; from 1968 to 1978, he worked in radiology at Longview; then he moved to Port Angeles, where he retired in 1991.
Dr. Apgood continued to be active in the community, giving annual talks on AIDS to high school students in Port Angeles and Sequim.
He was responsible for many changes in Olympic Memorial Hospital's radiology services and implemented programs for mammography, arthrography, arteriography and tomography.
With Dr. Ben Pisciotta, he brought CT scans to the area and was a pivotal force behind the oncology center in Sequim, where he was keynote speaker at the ground-breaking ceremony
He greatly enjoyed his small farm as well as hunting and fishing.
Dr. Apgood married Charlotte Elizabeth Clute in Reno, Nev., on April 12, 1952.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Apgood's survivors include son and daughter-in-law Robert and Nancy Apgood and son Bill Apgood, all of Seattle; daughter Sydney Mercer of Costa Mesa, Calif.; brother Lee Stillman Wagstaff of Salt Lake City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Apgood and sister Sydney Wagstaff, all of Salt Lake City; and stepfather Albert Stillman Wagstaff.
Services: Burial will be in Salt Lake City. Olympic Cremation Association, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Clifton Brown
June 17, 1923 -- Sept. 8, 2002
Former Sequim resident Ronald C. Brown died in Chandler, Ariz., following a stroke. He was 79.
Mr. Brown was born in Ottawa, Canada, the seventh of 12 children of William Forest and Alice Maude (Smith) Brown.
Following military service as a radar technician during World War II, he married Dorothy Frances Bentley in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, in September 1945. She died in 1997.
He first worked in a Ford dealership. After a stint as an aviation technician with the National Research Council in Ottawa, he became an insurance underwriter and rose to vice president at the company's headquarters in Winnipeg.
He was a passionate Christian, a lay preacher and Bible teacher.
After retirement and move to the Olympic Peninsula in 1975, the Browns began a home Bible fellowship that became Dungeness Community Church. He maintained a home in Sequim until April 2002.
Survivors include his wife of three years, the former Nena Caroline Crouch, whom he married on Oct. 22, 1999, of Tempe, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Beverly Brown of Vancouver, British Columbia; daughters and sons-in-law Lynne and Milan Stehlik of Newmarket, Ontario, Katherine and David Jeffrey of Waco, Texas, and Barbara and Tim Robertson of Sequim; and eight grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, Sept. 21, 10:30 a.m. memorial at Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, Sequim. The Rev. Scott Culver will officiate. Bueler Chandler Mortuary and Chapel in Chandler, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements. Cremains will be placed at Mount Angeles Memorial Park.

Leon F. `Dave' Davis
Nov. 27, 1932 -- Sept. 13, 2002
Navy veteran Leon F. ``Dave" Davis of Port Angeles died at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle at age 69.
Mr. Davis was born in Lynnville, Tenn., to John William and Mattie Sue (White) Davis.
He served in the Navy from 1952 until 1971, when he retired as a senior chief boatswain's mate. Mr. Davis received the Rivron 5 during service in Vietnam, the China Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars.
He married Constance Houk in June 1959. She died Feb. 6, 1993.
Following his Navy retirement he owned and operated Dave's Upholstery in Sequim.
He married Myra Doyle at Clallam County Juvenile Services, where his wife was employed, on July 20, 1995.
Mr. Davis' greatest interests were cooking, camping and fishing. He also created many woodworking projects.
Survivors include his wife of Port Angeles; sons Leon F. Davis Jr. of Tacoma and Edward Davis of Idaho; stepson Tom Wilkins of Saipan, Mariana Islands; daughters Brenda Marshall of Tacoma and Raeanne Reeves of Bremerton; stepdaughter Kathy Abernathy of Port Angeles; sisters Evelyn Marshall, Dorothy Droughn and Wanda Andrews, all of Tennessee; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by brothers William Davis and Bobby John Davis Jr., and sister Louise Marshall.
Services: Wednesday, Sept. 18, 11 a.m. graveside service at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles, the Rev. David Moffitt officiating. A gathering will follow at the home of Kathy Abernathy, 527 Rose St., Port Angeles. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Moses
March 19, 1975 -- Sept. 15, 2002
Daniel Moses of Port Angeles died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup at age 27. Mr. Moses, who was disabled with health problems, died of natural causes.
He was born to Roger and Bonnie (Huisman) Moses in Port Angeles and graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1995.
He attended Peninsula College, studying computer science.
He lived most of his life in Port Angeles and also lived in Sequim. Most recently he resided at Rainier Vista Care Center in Puyallup.
Mr. Moses loved animals and especially enjoyed seeing baby animals born on the family farm. He also enjoyed music, the outdoors, reading, watching videos, using his computer and traveling, including a trip to Denmark through Make-A-Wish Foundation.
He attended Independent Bible Church in Port Angeles, was a member of the church's youth group, and also was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his parents of Port Angeles; grandmothers Delletta Wilkinson of Nebraska and Janette Meszaros of Port Angeles; and sister and brother-in-law Tammi and Jason Lowery of Oak Harbor.
Services: There will be a memorial service for Daniel Moses, 27, on Thursday, Sept. 19, 3 p.m., in Independent Bible church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles, immediately preceding a reception at the church.
Leona Margaret Nygren
April 10, 1914 -- Sept. 14, 2002
Leona Margaret Nygren died in Port Angeles at age 88.
She was born in Aberdeen to Joseph and Louise Marie (St. George) Gagner.

Helen Roberta Oakes
April 7, 1911 -- Sept. 12, 2002
Longtime Port Angeles resident Helen Roberta Oakes died of a stroke at age 91.
She was born in Aberdeen to Robert Willard and Alice (Crivyea) Corbett. In 1920, she moved with her family to Port Angeles.
She married Merrill Glenn Oakes in Port Angeles on May 20, 1934.
Mrs. Oakes was a charter member and Worthy Adviser of the Order of Rainbow Girls and served as Mother Adviser in 1938 and 1939. She was also a member of Eastern Star, past president of Chapter BZ of PEO Sisterhood, a member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church, and was affiliated with the Port Angeles Senior Community Center, including serving as chair of the advisory board during planning and construction of the current building.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Dr. Roger and Maura Oakes and Gordon and Lorie Oakes, all of Port Angeles; daughter Virginia Dashiell of Silverdale; and six grandchildren.
Her husband died Oct. 20, 1971. She was also preceded in death by brothers Orville, Roy and Lyle Corbett, and sister Lillian Corbett Graham.
Services: Today, Sept. 17, noon to 5 p.m. visitation at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles; Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m., memorial in First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Emily Rose Burnham

Emily Rose Burnham was stillborn of congenital complications at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
She is survived by her parents, Steven A. and Eva Grace Marie (Draine) Burnham, and brother Kevin C.A. Burnham of Port Angeles; maternal grandmother Emma O'Brian of Port Angeles and maternal grandfather Douglas Hadsell of Oregon; paternal grandparents Kevin and Sarah Burnham of Port Angeles; maternal great-grandmother Mary Draine of Sequim; paternal great-grandfather Carl Schlichtig of Tillamook, Ore.; and paternal great-grandmother Claire Burnham of Sequim.

Charles Robert Ellis
Feb. 27, 1926 -- Sept. 10, 2002
Lifelong Port Angeles resident Charles Robert Ellis died of coronary artery disease at age 76.
The son of Raymond and Letha (McCarty) Ellis, he graduated from high school in 1945.
Mr. Ellis then served with the Navy in the Philippines and South Pacific.
Mr. Ellis was a retired longshoreman who loved aviation and was excellent in woodworking and automotives.
He is survived by son Erik F. Ellis of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Jennifer L. Purcell of Spokane; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by brothers Oliver, Raymond and George Ellis and sisters Mildred and Edna Ellis.

Rachel M. Kasakan
May 23, 1917 -- Sept. 16, 2002
Port Angeles resident Rachel M. Kasakan died in Olympic Medical Center at age 85.
She was born to Rudolph and Mary (Charles) Walton in Sitka, Alaska, where she attended Sheldon Jackson Boarding School.
She married Nicholas C. Kasakan, whom she later divorced.
While living in Alaska she worked for the state ferry system.
Mrs. Kasakan also lived in Seattle and Port Angeles.
She loved watching old movies, dancing, reading, sewing and counseling her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Kasakan belonged to the Baha'i Faith.
Survivors include daughters Roberta L. Charles and Linda Qualls, both of Port Angeles; brother James Walton of Juneau, Alaska; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Nicholas Charles Kasakan II in 1963, brother William Walton, and sisters Dora Lawrence and Ida Enloe.
Services: Thursday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m. funeral in Ocean View Cemetery Chapel, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles, followed by a reception at 3414 Wabash St., Port Angeles. Isa Morris
Sept. 12, 1908 -- Sept. 16, 2002
Longtime Sequim resident Isa Morris died in Port Angeles of a cardiovascular accident at age 94.
She was born in Italy to Quinto and Anna (Pozzo) Preacco.
She moved with her family to Paris when she was 4.
In 1926, she married Victor Crosasso who died in 1934.
During World War II she moved back to Italy, where she met and married Roger O. Morris, a U.S. serviceman, in Trieste in 1948. She accompanied her husband to the United States.
The couple opened Isa's Cafe in Sequim. After selling it in 1965, they spent 10 years in Hawaii before moving back to Sequim in 1987.
She belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Phyllis Crosasso of Seattle; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Morris, son Loris Crosasso and a granddaughter.
Services: Thursday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m. visitation at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim; followed by noon funeral liturgy; the Rev. Thomas Beattie officiating. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
