Theodore Mark Stevens
June 15, 1912 -- July 14, 2002
Theodore Mark Stevens died of end-stage Alzheimer's disease at Kah Tai Care Center, Port Townsend. He was 90.
Born to Loren T. and Marie Janet (Kerry) Stevens in Seattle, he grew up in the Beacon Hill district and was a laundry truck driver before moving to Port Townsend in 1972.
Mr. Stevens was a member of the Teamsters Union and attended San Juan Baptist Church.
His favorite pastimes were camping, hiking, fishing and traveling with his trailer or motor home.
Mr. Stevens was married to the former Frances Sheffield for 64 years. She died in August 1997.
On Oct. 9, 1997, he married Evelyn Rutherford, who survives him in Port Townsend. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law Lorene and Nick Gagliardi of Belfair; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, July 20, at 4 p.m., funeral in Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend, with the Rev. Dan McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Chimacum.
Vernon Patrick Bonner
Feb. 1, 1920 -- July 21, 2002
Vernon Patrick Bonner died in Port Townsend after a long illness. He was 82.
Born to Charles and Letha (Jacobs) Bonner in Blackfoot, Idaho, he was raised in Idaho and California.
During World War II, he served as a private first class with the Army in Europe.
On April 22, 1974, he married Judith M. Bannon in Las Vegas.
Mr. Bonner was a supervisor for McDonnell Douglas Corp. in California.
The Bonners moved to Port Townsend in 1993.
In his spare time, Mr. Bonner enjoyed traveling and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bonner's survivors include daughter Sharon Hansberry-Hughson of California; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Patricia, and a brother, Roland Boyd Bonner, preceded him in death.

June L. Logelin
June 17, 1917 -- July 22, 2002
June L. Logelin died in Crestwood Convalescent Center, Port Angeles. She was 85.
She was born in Larson, N.D., to Herman and Mayme (Domrese) Kleinschmidt and graduated from high school in Columbus, N.D., in 1935.
On Sept. 8, 1936, she married John B. Logelin in Noonan, N.D.
Mrs. Logelin worked in food service at Olympic Memorial Hospital from 1972 to 1987 and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include son John R. Logelin and daughter Jill Colvin, both of Port Angeles; brother Lyle Kleinschmidt of Snohomish; sisters Mildred Kaiser of Aberdeen, S.D., and Irene Steiner of Seattle; and three grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1981; and daughters Judy Lockman and Jayne Logelin died in 1986 and 1977, respectively.
Services: Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m., memorial in Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Paul Smithson will officiate.

George Matthew Thompson
July 17, 1906 -- July 24, 2002
Lifelong Washington resident George Matthew Thompson died in Port Angeles. He was 96.
He was born in Chimacum to Oscar and Emma (Eldridge) Thompson and worked at various occupations in the state.
He was member of the Moose Lodge.
Mr. Thompson is survived by sons Ronald Thompson of Buckley and Jeff Thompson of Corbonado; daughters Georgia Gaston of Port Ludlow, Barbara Shannon and Loretta Thompson, both of Yelm, and Carol Ohman of Buckley; and 21 grandchildren.
His wife, Wahneetah, preceded him in death.

AVERY W. `DOC' BLAYLOCK
Aug. 6, 1921 - July 21, 2002
Avery W. ``Doc" Blaylock of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died at 2:15 p.m. on July 21, 2002, at his residence in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Avery was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Fairland, Okla., the son of James Madison and Ollie Mathis Blaylock. He had lived in the Miami, Okla., area most of his life. He served as a Mill Foreman at Eagle Picher and retired. He was a farmer and cattleman. He enjoyed bird-watching and gardening.
Avery was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy (active duty commenced Feb. 9, 1943), served on the USS New Orleans and was honorably discharged on Nov. 27, 1945. Those that best knew him just called him ``Doc."
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Madeline Lamay Blaylock, on Jan. 2, 2001. Two brothers (Leon and Owen Blaylock) preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. Blaylock and Aloma of Port Angeles, Wash., and Gary Blaylock and Teresa of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two brothers, Bill Blaylock of Fairland, Okla., and Ben Blaylock of Fairland, Okla.; and one sister, Mildred Blaylock George of Miami, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Sandy, Jamie, Frana, Justin, Brandy, Jeromy, Destry and Tonya; and 13 great-grandchildren, Brian, David, Aloma, Jeff, Mark, Megan, Zac, Abe, Ezra, Grace, Darren, Michelle and Lani.
The funeral service for ``Doc" will be on July 26, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Okla.
Pallbearers are: Clint Siegrist, Rick Siegrist, Jim George, Clifford Shamblin, Jack Timmons and Bob Kelly.

MYRL A. HIGHTOWER
Sept. 1, 1915-July 20, 2002
At age 86, Myrl A. Hightower of Sequim died of cancer.
She was born in St. Joseph, N.D., to Sander E. and Johanna Othelia (Jorgenson) Swanson and trained at business college.
On Feb. 26, 1944, she married Jack E. Hightower in Hattiesburg, Miss.
In addition to Hattiesburg, Miss., and Sequim, homes of Mrs. Hightower were located in Comstock, Minn.; Portland, Ore.; Seattle; Tempe, Ariz.; Vancouver, Wash.; and Tucson, Ariz.
She loved people and she loved God, walking through life with a strong faith, always believing ``this, too, shall pass."
Mrs. Hightower was a member of the Sequim Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by sons Joe C. Hightower and Jerry Hightower; sister Lillian Wallgren; and grandchildren Brett, Nathan and Kelsey. Also, by her family-in-love Les, Barbara and Bridgette Candee.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 14, 1990, and by her son, Jack ``Kip" Hightower, in 1964.
On Monday, July 29, at 2 p.m., her memorial service will be at Sequim Presbyterian Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave. Burial will be in Hillcrest Burial Park, Kent. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth P. Andrew
June 9, 1908 -- July 20, 2002
Elizabeth P. Andrew died of pneumonia in Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center, Sequim, at age 94.
She was born in Grand Ridge, Ill., to Robert and Edith Agnes (Northrup) Poundstone.
Mrs. Andrew graduated from the University of Washington and was a social worker for many years.
On June 10, 1929, she married Ross Andrew in Fort Collins, Colo.
Her survivors include son James Andrew of Sequim; daughters Margaret Larsen of Seattle and Roberta Wermer of Yakima; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Services: At her request, none. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge.
Helen G. Hallburg
Aug. 1, 1926 -- July 1, 2002
Former Sequim homemaker Helen G. Hallburg died of cancer in her Chehalis home at age 75.
She was born to Elmer A. and Florence G. (Reynolds) Moore in Rockford, Ill., where she graduated from Harlem High School in 1944.
She married Russell V. Hallburg on June 10, 1944.
Mrs. Hallburg attended Olympic College in Bremerton and was occasionally employed as a part-time waitress or nurse's aide.
Mrs. Hallburg enjoyed working crossword puzzles, doing cross stitch and bowling.
She is survived by her husband; son Wayne A. Hallburg of Centralia; daughters Jaqueline S. ``Jackie" Lewis of Keyport, Faye E. McLamb of Port Orchard and Jenean Wirig of Kent; brother Norman G. Moore of Loves Park, Ill.; five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
Services: None. Interment in Napavine with Cattermole Funeral Home, Winlock, in charge.

Mary Susan Moore
Aug. 3, 1920 -- July 19, 2002
Mary Susan Moore of Sequim died from heart failure at Olympic Medical Center at age 81.
Mrs. Moore was born to Graham Windon and Jessie Edna (Porter) Waggener in Point Pleasant, W.Va.
She married K. C. Moore on Dec. 26, 1959, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She worked 18 years as a clerical supervisor for the Los Angeles Veterans Hospital. Prior to moving to Sequim in August 2000, she had retired to Show Low, Ariz., for 22 years.
Mrs. Moore enjoyed gourmet cooking, gardening, traveling and fishing.
Survivors include her husband of Sequim; sons Jack Norton and Richard Norton; daughters Susan Cheyno and Libby Oshiyama; sister Elizabeth (Libby) Savage; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: None. Her ashes will be scattered during a family gathering at a later date. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
THOMAS ALLEN BORDEN
Born August 6, 1955, died July 25, 2002, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly J. Lindell of Port Angeles; two sons and a daughter; longtime companion Virginia Parkhurst; sisters Gail L. Miller and Cheryl M. Borden; brother Timothy W. Borden; and seven nieces and nephews.
Tom was a graduate of Port Angeles High School and served in the military. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas G. Borden, in 1974.
He was loved by all who know him and will be greatly missed.
The family requests no memorial service.
Michael Dennis Benefiel
July 29, 1956 -- July 27, 2002
Michael Dennis Benefiel, a 12-year resident of Port Angeles, died from injuries received in an automobile crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Gardiner two days before his 46th birthday.
Mr. Benefiel was born to Kearney Thomas Sr. and Rose (Phelps) Benefiel in Pearl City, Hawaii, and grew up in the Dayton, Ore., area.
He graduated from Beaverton High School and served in the Navy from 1974 to 1976.
While residing in Port Angeles he was employed as a truck driver.
Mr. Benefiel enjoyed fishing and camping, and especially spending time with his daughter.
Survivors include his daughter, Molly Patton, who resides with her mother, Lynn, in Victoria; mother, Rose, of Sacramento, Calif.; brothers Danny Benefiel of Sacramento, Calif., Jerry Benefiel of Toledo, Ore., Keith Benefiel of Salem, Ore., and Kearney Benefiel Jr. of Fort Collins, Colo.; and sister Nancy Druery of St. Helens, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1979.
Services: Friday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m. service at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial SE, Salem, Ore. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
Donald E. Jackson
Feb. 10, 1948 -- July 4, 2002
Sequim resident Donald E. Jackson died at the age of 54.
He was born in Austin, Texas, to Harry B. and Harriette J. (Peters) Jackson.
He graduated from Santa Ynez Valley High School in California and lived in Santa Barbara, Calif., before moving to Sequim.
He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Survivors include a brother, K. Scott Jackson of Fresno, Calif., and a sister, Bobbie Case of Trinidad, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
