Olga Lauriza Ajon
May 8, 1921 -- July 2, 2002
Olga Lauriza Ajon of Forks died of a stroke at age 81.
She was born to Antonio and Maria Elena (Gonzalez) Ajon in Valparaiso, Chile, where she spent most of her life.
On May 8, 1946, married Alfredo Martinez.
Even though Mrs. Ajon did not have a full formal education, she was industrious and talented, teaching herself crafts, photography and printing.
After the death of her husband on April 23, 2001, she came to Forks, where she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mrs. Ajon was survived by her daughters, Rosa E. Lincoln of Forks and Teresa Hartlerode of Gresham, Ore.; son Alfredo T. Martin; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services: On July 5, memorial was held in the Forks Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop David Johnson officiating. Inurnment will be in Chile. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, was in charge of arrangements.
Harold A. Lambert
July 26, 1919 -- July 2, 2002
Harold A. Lambert of Sequim died at age 82 after a long illness.
He was born to Emery and Maude Lambert in Santa Ana, Calif., and served in the Navy as a hospital corpsman during World War II.
After attending Asbury College in Kentucky, Mr. Lambert earned his master's degree in theology from the University of Southern California and his school administrator's degree from California State University, Chico.
He pastored Methodist churches in Southern California for 10 years. He retired in 1984 as a schoolteacher and administrator after 23 years in Oroville, Calif.
Mr. Lambert particularly enjoyed playing the organ, gardening, woodworking and stained-glass art.
In addition to his wife of 43 years -- the former Marilyn E. Scott whom he married March 14, 1959, in Las Vegas -- Mr. Lambert is survived by son Harold ``Chip'' Lambert Jr. of Kirkland; stepson R. Scott Gartin of Anchorage, Alaska; sister Thema Steele of Garden Grove, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
His stepdaughter, Cherilyn Gartin Hawkley, died in 1993.
Services: Private family memorial will be held. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Richard F. Liles
July 27, 1952 -- June 29, 2002
Former West End resident Richard F. Liles died in Visalia, Calif., of a brain tumor. He was 49.
Son of Harold D. and Betty (Whitten) Liles, he was born in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Forks High School in 1970.
Mr. Liles received his bachelor of arts from the University of Washington in 1980, then became a teacher in Chehalis and, later, at Central Valley Christian School in Visalia.
He devoted many hours of volunteer effort to Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Liles married Sandra K. Seabeck in Seattle on June 1, 1979.
In addition to his wife, son Colin Liles and daughter Natalie Liles, all of Visalia, survivors include his parents of Rochester; brothers and sisters-in-law Russell and Monica Liles of Springfield, Ore., and Mark and Sharon Liles of Bellevue; and sister and brother-in-law Karen and Jerry Spoelstra of Sequim.
Services: On July 3, memorial was held at First Christian Reformed Church, Visalia, with the Rev. George Vink officiating. Hadley Funeral Chapel, Visalia, was in charge of arrangements.

Katharine Patricia `Patty' Rebman
March 3, 1934 -- July 2, 2002
Katharine Patricia ``Patty'' Rebman died peacefully in her Port Angeles home from complications of diabetes. She was 68.
Born in Seattle to Wendell and Jessie (Sutherland) Lavering, she was employed by Bell Telephone in Seattle and, later, as a driver for Kenmore Air Harbor in Kenmore.
She married Richard A. Rebman on March 28, 1953, and raised their children.
Mrs. Rebman was a longtime resident of Port Angeles and spent most of her adult life summering at Lake Crescent.
Her favorite pastimes were watching wildlife, reading and quilting.
Survivors include her husband; sons Richard A. Rebman Jr. of Stanwood, and Ronald L. Rebman of Orcas Island; daughters Katharine A. Lye of Buckley, Sandra M. Rebman of Granite Falls and Susan L. Bueno of Port Angeles; and numerous grandchildren.

Verda May Reetz
Sept. 20, 1915 -- July 4, 2002
Lifelong Olympic Peninsula resident Verda May Reetz died in Sequim at age 86.
She was born to Walter J. and Margaret Ann (McGavin) Beutler in Port Angeles.
She married Edwin J. Reetz on Dec. 20, 1934, in Port Angeles.
Mrs. Reetz was a homemaker who greatly enjoyed her children and grandchildren and whose favorite pastimes included knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include son Darrel H. Reetz of Tacoma; daughters Donna Wasankari of Forks and Maurgee Merritt of Sequim; brothers Charles Beutler of Port Angeles and Walter Beutler of Yelm; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her sisters Lucille Thorlaxson and Margaret L. Wait, who both preceded her in death, Mrs. Reetz's husband died July 10, 1999.

James Dean `J.D.' Roberts
July 28, 1978 -- July 3, 2002
Former Forks resident James Dean ``J.D.'' Roberts died in his Amanda Park home after an extended illness. He was 23.
Born to Earl Dean and Mattie Yvonne (Blankenship) Roberts in Forks, where he attended his first eight grades of school, he graduated from Quinault High School after moving to Amanda Park.
While in middle school, Mr. Roberts was a teacher's assistant. The past three summers, he worked as a dishwasher for Lake Quinault Lodge.
In Forks, he attended Forks Baptist Church. After moving to Amanda Park, he attended Quinault Valley Chapel at Neilton. In addition to making a mission trip to Mexico with the chapel, Mr. Roberts played church league baseball for several years. He also enjoyed basketball, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his father at the family home, Mr. Roberts is survived by sister Maxine Davis of Tennessee; stepbrother Max Blair of Craig, Alaska; and half-sister Heather Davis of Tennessee. His mother died in 1993.
Services: Today, July 7, from 1 to 6 p.m., visitation in Coleman Mortuary, 422 Fifth St., Hoquiam; Monday, July 8 at 2 p.m., funeral in Forks Baptist Church, 651 S. Forks Ave. The Revs. Gery West and John Gilroy will officiate. Graveside committal and interment will follow in Forks Cemetery.

Myrtle S. Taylor
Nov. 25, 1923 -- July 2, 2002
Myrtle S. Taylor died in Port Angeles Care Center of a stroke at age 78.
She was born to Robert W. and Anna (Flodin) Schmidt at Bainbridge Island, where she married Earle R. Taylor on May 29, 1948.
After graduating from high school, she completed two years of business college and worked as a paralegal secretary.
For the past 15 years, Mrs. Taylor resided in Port Angeles.
Mrs. Taylor was a prize-winning gardener and an accomplished pianist who played both classical and popular music. She was also a lifetime member of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband and her daughter Corrine Ann Winters, both of Port Angeles; sisters Georgina Bice of Lincoln, Neb., and Roberta Soper of Staly, Minn.; and two grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Aggergaard
Sept. 27, 1912 -- July 5, 2002
Former Port Angeles resident Mary Elizabeth Aggergaard died in Anacortes at age 89.
She was born to James and Ada Mae (Simpson) Allburn in Wall, S.D., and grew up on her family's homestead.
She married Vialas ``Perry'' Aggergaard from Viborg, S.D. The Aggergaards moved to California, then came to Port Angeles, where she lived for 60 years.
Mrs. Aggergaard was active in the Foster Children's Program and served as a Cub Scout den mother for 12 years. For many years, she helped her husband with Little League baseball, was active in Daughters of the American Revolution and belonged to the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Aggergaard moved to Anacortes in 1999.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law James and Becky Aggergaard of Anacortes and Keith and Bobbie Aggergaard of Port Angeles; daughter-in-law Melanie Aggergaard of Olympia; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Joel and brother and sister-in-law James and Gwen Allburn.
Services: July 17 at 11 a.m., in First United Methodist and Congregational Church, 110 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles, followed by graveside committal in Ocean View Cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes, is in charge.
Thomas William `Tom' Hammock
April 27, 1944 -- July 5, 2002
Chimacum resident Thomas William ``Tom'' Hammock died at home after a battle with cancer. He was 58.
Mr. Hammock was born in Aberdeen to Clarence R. ``Tuffy'' and Ruth M. (Kurrle) Hammock.
A 1962 graduate of Montesano High School, Mr. Hammock earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Central Washington State College in 1967.
He married Mary R. Niles in Aberdeen on Dec. 3, 1965.
Mr. Hammock worked in logging until 1968, when he went to work for the Washington Department of Corrections in Shelton. In 1979 he joined ITT Rayonier in Hoquiam as a personnel/industrial relations manager.
In 1986, he moved to Port Townsend where he became corporate employee relations manager for Port Townsend Paper Corp. until he retired in 1998.
Mr. Hammock loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors, as well as woodworking.
He had been a volunteer first aid lieutenant in the Montesano Fire Department and a first aid instructor and emergency medical technician with the Chimacum Fire Department. He was also a past member of Montesano Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; son Daniel T. Hammock of Olympia; daughter and son-in-law Debi and Robert Ledesma of Tacoma; mother of Montesano; sister and brother-in-law Patti and Forrest Baugher of Parker; and brother and sister-in-law Ray and Judy Hammock of Montesano.
His father preceded him in death.

Clifton Charles McKenzie
Aug. 28, 1901 -- July 4, 2002
Clifton Charles McKenzie, formerly of Port Townsend, died in Martha and Mary Care Center, Poulsbo, at age 100.
He was born to Joseph Paulus and Laura (Dawson) McKenzie in Harvard, Nev.
Mr. McKenzie married Bessie Vialeita Patterson in Seward, Neb., on Dec. 6, 1922.
He operated a dry cleaning business in Ulysses, Kan., and moved to Lompoc, Calif., after retirement.
In 1988, the McKenzies came to Port Townsend.
During the past seven years, he lived with his son and daughter-in-law before moving into the Poulsbo care center two months ago.
Mr. McKenzie took exercise classes at Jefferson General Hospital twice a week and accompanied his son on an occasional fishing trip to Wyoming. On his 100th birthday last August, a large gathering of family and friends celebrated Mr. McKenzie's life.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Elden and Sharon McKenzie; grandchildren Kerry McKenzie of Green River, Wyo., Heather Fisher of Herlong, Calif., Robyn McKenzie of Port Angeles, Vicki Ashley of Lompoc, Calif., Brian McKenzie of Kennewick and Ian Bruce McKenzie of Port Townsend; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, preceding Mr. McKenzie in death were an infant daughter, brother Earl, sister Myrtle and granddaughter Shoshanna.

Hubert L. `Hub' Winnett
Nov. 26, 1920 -- July 7, 2002
Hubert L. ``Hub'' Winnett died of a stroke in Port Angeles Care Center at age 81.
He was born to Elsa Lewis and Fanny Margaret (Royce) Winnett in Dayton, where he graduated from high school in 1938.
Mr. Winnett attended community college in Cheney and was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps on the European front during World War II.
He married Jean N. Smith in Sequim on May 28, 1952.
Mr. Winnett, who was a 50-year resident of Port Angeles, lived in the same home on Georgiana Street for 45 years and worked as a carrier for the postal service.
He was a member of the Postal Service Letter Carriers Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Club and Hurricane Sams as well as a life member of Elks Naval Lodge and past commander of the American Legion post.
Mr. Winnett is survived by his wife; daughter Layl L. Laird of Yuma, Ariz.; sisters Aleta Gaines of Auburn and Thelma Woodward of Adams, Ore.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
