Petrine Kristine Robertsen
Dec. 5, 1912 -- Jan. 18, 2002
Port Angeles resident Petrine Kristine Robertsen died at age 89.
She was born in Uttakleiv, Lofoten, Norway, to Samuel and Inga (Pettersen) Abrahamsen.
On Oct. 3, 1931, she married Olav J. Robertsen in Buksnes, Lofoten, Norway.
Mrs. Robertsen moved from Norway to Seattle in 1950 and also lived in Bellingham before moving to the North Olympic Peninsula, where she also made her home in Chimacum and Sequim.
She was a member of United Church of God.
Survivors include son Robert Robertsen of Port Angeles; daughters Ruth Myers of Plain City, Ohio, and Inga Davis of Seattle; brother Gunnar Abrahamsen of Mount Vernon; sister Sylva Gronvoll of Sequim; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, who died May 20, 2000, she was preceded by son Kaare Robertsen, who died March 16, 1993.
Services: Friday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m., funeral in Drennan & Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Dennis Luker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Chimacum.
Rose Thacker
March 12, 1910 -- Jan. 22, 2002
At age 91, longtime Jefferson County resident Rose Thacker died in Martha & Mary Health Service at Poulsbo.
She was born to Christian Golderman and Dagmar (Jensen) Peterson in Port Ludlow. She married Cecil Thacker in Port Ludlow on Sept. 26, 1926.
Mrs. Thacker is survived by sons Ray Thacker of Port Angeles, Danny Thacker of Chimacum and Jeffrey Thacker of Port Townsend; daughters Anita Morrow, Shirlee Bussart and Bette Fountain, all of Port Townsend, Sheila Dorn of Puyallup and Sharyn Mukley of Amarillo, Texas; brother Harry Peterson of Tacoma; sisters Betty Linehan and Barbara Weeks, both of Olympia; 24 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband died on their 49th wedding anniversary, Sept. 26, 1975. She was also preceded in death by five siblings.
Services: Thursday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m., memorial in San Juan Baptist Church, 1704 Discovery Road, Port Townsend. Inurnment will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.
Ralph M. McLain
Nov. 8, 1919 -- Jan. 12, 2002
At age 82, former Port Angeles resident Ralph M. McLain died in Spokane.
He was born in Spokane to Manford and Marguerite McLain and graduated from high school in Sunnyside.
On March 7, 1942, he married Carol Teegarden, then entered the Army where he served in World War II and in the service from 1942 to 1946.
After this, Mr. McLain was a diesel mechanic until 1967, when he moved to Port Angeles to do commercial fishing. He and his wife operated the trawler he built until retirement.
In addition to fishing and hunting, he particularly enjoyed trap shooting, square dancing and flying radio-controlled model airplanes.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years; brother Dale McLain of Post Falls, Idaho; and sister Laurel Cromar of Sunnyside. He was preceded in death by brothers Raymond and Norman.
Services: Burial was in Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, with Heritage Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Charity of choice.
George Daley Petty
Sept. 3, 1937 -- Jan. 22, 2002
Port Angeles resident George Daley Petty died at age 64.
He was born in Stillwell, Okla., to Ralph and Mary (Teiskie) Petty.
After graduating from high school, he served with the Army from Oct. 30, 1954-Oct. 21, 1957. He was discharged after duty in Germany with the rate of private first class.
As a civilian, Mr. Petty was a logger before going to work at Safeway as a seafood clerk.
He greatly enjoyed working on his car and watching arm wrestling, as well as hunting and fishing.
On Jan. 11, 1958, he married Pearl Kemp in Port Angeles; they divorced July 10, 1981.
Mr. Petty married Suzanne Mykol in Port Angeles on Oct. 1, 2001.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son Randy Petty and sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Deb Petty and Fred and Jennifer Petty, all of Port Angeles; daughter Shelly Miller of California and daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Mark Guthrie of Anacortes; brother Billy Ray McNally; sister Patricia VanAusdle and sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and George Ritchie, all of Port Angeles; numerous grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren.
Services: To be announced at a later time. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge.
SHIRLEY MAY JACOBS
Shirley May Jacobs passed away Jan. 22, 2002.
Shirley is survived by her loving family; daughter, Dorothy (Alex); 7 granddaughters, Karen (Mike), Lisa, Shawna, Marlene, Lainey (Randy), Deanna (Sean) and Debbie; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lloyd and Elwood and 1 sister, Ruby. Also many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at 1 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, B.C.
Donations in Shirley's memory can be made to the Cancer Society.
George Daley Petty
Sept. 3, 1937 -- Jan. 22, 2002
Port Angeles resident George Daley Petty died at age 64. His obituary was published Friday on Page A4.
Services: At his request, no formal service will be held; however, today, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon, there will be a potluck open house at the Senior Center, 328 W. Seventh St., Port Angeles. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Louise Stroeder
April 21, 1921 -- Jan. 2, 2002
Former Port Ludlow resident Dorothy Louise Stroeder of Henderson, Nev., died in Sunset Hospital, Las Vegas, of an aneurysm in the brain.
Born to Sam and Helen Montague in Ableni Falls, Idaho, she and her first husband, John Storkan, owned a furniture store at Morgan Hill in Northern California before moving to Port Ludlow, where they made their home until his death in 1986.
On Feb. 14, 1989, she married Anthony Stroeder. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Stroeder moved from Jefferson County to Henderson, Nev., in 1998.
Survivors include daughters Sharyn Zawada of Sand Point, Idaho, and Judi Serlin of Henderson, Nev.; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law John and Nancy Stroeder of Port Townsend; brother Bill Montague of Southern Oregon; sisters Carol Armstrong of Belmont, Calif., and Edith Adams of Hoquiam; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: Memorial held Jan. 12 in Central Christian Church, Henderson, Nev. Palm Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

FREDERICK WARREN MCNAMARA
Dec. 27, 1916-Jan. 25, 2002
Native pioneer resident of Sequim, Frederick Warren McNamara died at age 85. He was born in Happy Valley to Peter and Isabel McNamara, who immigrated from Ontario and New Brunswick, Canada.
He grew up in a family of nine children and worked on various Sequim dairy farms.
Fred graduated from Sequim High School in 1935. After graduation he joined the U.S. Coast Guard.
He and his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Robb, married on October 14, 1939. After marriage, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk. He was then drafted by the US Navy in WWII and served as a postal clerk in Bremerton. At the end of WWII, he rejoined the Sequim Postal Service as rural route 2 carrier and served 33 years without missing a day due to illness.
Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and maintaining his farm.
One of the highlights of his life was being honored as a grand pioneer for the 100th Anniversary of the Irrigation Festival. He was also proud to be a member of the local ``Over the Hill Gang."
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, in 1999; brothers William, Richard, Angus, Robert; and sisters Inez and Noreen.
Survivors include sons Gerald L. of Tacoma, David W. and James F. of Sequim; sisters Emily Kongsle of Campbell, Calif., and Mary Norman of Graham, Wash.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services: Public Visitation: Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Sequim Valley Chapel from 4-6 p.m. Private Family Services: Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Sequim Valley Chapel. Private Family Burial following services at Sequim View Cemetery, Pastor Winston DeHaven officiating.

DIANE MARIE DEMOREST
Aug. 22, 1956 -- Jan. 22, 2002
Forks resident Diane Marie Demorest has died at home at the age of 45.
She was born in Arlington, Wash., to Glenn M. and Helen F. (Matko) Demorest.
She moved to Forks with her family at the age of four.
She graduated from Forks High School in 1974, earned an associate's degree in nursing from Peninsula College in 1977. She began her medical career as a registered nurse specializing in acute care at Forks Community Hospital.
After additional training at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, Ore., Diane was certified as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). She went on to work as a family nurse practitioner at Clallam Bay Medical Clinic from 1984 to 1986, and at Family Medical Center in Forks from 1986 to 1997.
Over the course of her career she also provided family nurse practitioner care at Clearwater/Olympic Correction Center and LaPush Clinic, as well as continuing to work at Forks Community Hospital on an occasional basis. From 1997 until her own illness forced her retirement in recent months, Diane worked at Sol Duc Clinic in Forks.
She was a member of the Academy of Nurse Practitioners and also served on the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Board. Outside of healthcare, she served the community in ways too numerous to list, but she was especially passionate in her involvement with Friends of Forks Animals and Soroptimist International of the Olympic Rain Forest.
Diane had a zeal for life, an appreciation for a good story, and a unique sense of humor. She enjoyed her yard and home as much as she enjoyed traveling. She cherished spending time with her friends, her family and her beloved "Barney." She will be remembered especially for her courage, her strength, her compassion, her healing hands, her loving hugs and her gentle heart.
Diane is survived by her brother and sister-in-law David G. and Terri I. Demorest of Forks; sister and brother-in-law Cheryl L. and Michael B. Thomas of Kalama, Wash.; niece Jennifer L. Jensen of Kalama, Wash.; nephews Joshua T. Jensen, Port Angeles, Brian J. Demorest, Fort Meade, Maryland, Anthony G. Demorest, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and Severin W. Walch, Kalama, Wash.; as well as many dear friends near and far. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her grandparents John and Nettie Demorest and Tony and Agnes Matko.
A Celebration of Diane's Life will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 280 Spartan Ave., Forks. Pastor David Weddington will officiate.
A potluck will follow in the church fellowship hall. Memorials can be made to Friends of Forks Animals, P.O. Box 2022, Forks, WA 98441, or a charity of choice.
Cremation was entrusted to Mount Olympus Funeral Home.
June Audrey Camfield
June 30, 1920 -- Jan. 26, 2002
Kai Tai Care Center resident June Audrey Camfield died in Port Townsend at age 81.
She was born in North Adams, Mass., to Paul and Vivian (Hodge) Liston and attended schools in Worcester and Cambridge.
In 1944, she married William F. Prange at Virginia Beach, Va. They moved to Plantsville, Conn., where they lived with their three children until moving to Port Townsend in 1954. He died April 25, 1976.
In April, 1990, she married Ernest Lyman Camfield in Port Townsend.
For many years, she worked as a nurse in Jefferson General Hospital.
Among her personal interests were a love of music and dancing as well as knitting, quilting, gardening, reading, traveling and dining out.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Camfield's survivors include sons and daughters-in-law William and Jeanne Prange of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Richard and Jeri Prange of Sedro Woolly; and daughter Vivian Prange of Port Townsend.
Also, stepchildren Debbie Camfield and husband Lewis Hall of Port Angeles; Lucie Carter and husband Gil of Kelso; Russell Camfield and wife Donna of Irondale; and Hervey Camfield and wife Julie of Puyallup.
And grandchildren Jennifer Stewart, Jason Prange, Gretchen Prange, Richards Pitts and Damaen Ellis; and great-grandchildren Teyler Prange, William Stewart and Bryant Pitts.
Services: Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1:30 p.m., Celebration of Life at Towne Point Clubhouse, 2240 Towne Point Ave., Port Townsend. Private inurnment in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Townsend. Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claude Norman `Norm' Freeman
July 30, 1917 -- Jan. 19, 2002
Port Angeles resident Claude Norman ``Norm" Freeman died in Crestview Convalescent Center at 84.
He was born to Claud Nicolas and Hazel Zeta (Zumwalt) Freeman in Corvallis, Ore., where he studied pre-engineering for 1½ years at Oregon State College.
In 1945-46 Mr. Freeman served as a radio repairman with the Army at Headquarters Battery, 12th Field Artillery in Japan.
After this, he was employed by Boeing Aircraft Co., Seattle.
Pursuing an interest in architecture, he became senior expediter/ supervisor at multiple firms, including Freeman, Heyslip and Tuft of Portland, Ore. He was also architect supervisor and owner of a large mobile home park in Pendleton, Ore.
After first retiring to Mesa, Ariz., he relocated to Port Angeles.
Mr. Freeman was active in the Elks Lodge, in which he held state office in Oregon and was co-founder and second Exalted Ruler in Milwaukie, Ore.
His personal interests also included a love of boats, fishing, photography, traveling, and playing golf at Peninsula Golf Club, where he was a member.
On June 20, 1941, he married Martha T. ``Marty" Barnes in Seattle; they divorced in 1969.
In January 1970, he married Mary Lee Paprocki at Reno, Nev.; she died in 1993. Their survivors are: John Paprocki of Aloha, Ore., Kathy Honaker of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; and Pam Sims of Toledo -- and their children.
Additionally, Mr. Freeman is survived by his longtime companion, Marlene Neal; son Laurie Paul Freeman of Bremerton; daughters Nancy Ludwig of Hillsboro, Ore., and and Sally Phipps of Lazano, Texas; three grandsons and two granddaughters; one great-grandson and three great-granddaughters.
Services: Memorial Service was held at the Eagles Lodge, Port Angeles; interment was at Rest Urn Garden, Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bremerton. Cremation was by Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles.
