Ervin D. Deeter, age 79, of Sumas died at the Christian Health Care Center on Monday, Dec. 11, 2006.
A son of Oliver and Margaret (Minaker) Deeter, Ervin was born in Sedro Woolley on Jan. 10, 1927 and had been a lifetime Sumas area resident. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and then 12 years with the U.S. Forest Service. He was married to Roselie Plunk in Blaine on Dec. 12, 1960.

Sandra Ann Gadwa of Lynden passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006.
Sandy was born in Bellingham on April 16, 1932 and was 74 years old. Sandy was a very supportive wife and loved reading, learning by computer and her teddy bear collection.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Whatcom County, 800 E. Chestnut St., Suite 1-C, Bellingham, WA 98225.

Charles “Charlie” A. Maier, age 84, of Lynden, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital. Graveside services will be held Friday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. at Greenacres Memorial Park followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service at First Reformed Church, 610 Grover St.

Judith Wood Stitt of Everson went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Nov. 27, 2006 in Bellingham.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1933 in Binghampton, N.Y., and grew up in Wildwood Crest, N.J. Judy traveled west and attended Stephens College of Columbia, Mo., and the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she earned her teaching degree.
Dorothy Ketchum

Dorothy Joan Ketchum died in Everson on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 at the age of 70.
She was born in Bellingham on Aug. 7, 1936 to Anton and Hilda (Hills) Holmquist and graduated from the State School for the Deaf. Dorothy married Clyde Ketchum on April 23, 1959 in Clearbrook. Shortly after their marriage they moved to the Seattle area where she lived for 46 years.
Marie Gross

Marie J. Gross of Lynden went to be with her Lord on Dec. 2, 2006 at Lynden Manor.
Born to Gerrit and Maria (Van Corbach) Eshuis on Jan. 3, 1917 in Ireton, Iowa, she grew up in Sioux Center, Iowa. On April 30, 1936 she married Lloyd Gross in Brooten, Minn., and in 1941 they moved to Zillah, Wash., and then to Lynden. During World War II they resided in Seattle where Marie was employed by Boeing for five years. In 1955 Lloyd and Marie returned to Lynden where they raised their family.
Martin Vander Laan

On Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, Martin Reinier (Mark) Vander Laan went to his heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mark was born on Nov. 15, 1966 in Corona, Calif. He moved with his family to Everson in 1983.
Mark was an inspiration and blessing to his family, who loved him very much.
Mark is survived by his parents, William (Bill) and Katie Vander Laan; his brother Ryan; and sister Heidi and husband Greg Tolle; two nieces, Abrielle and Arika Tolle; and his special care giver, Janet Bruce.
Virginia Truchon

Virginia Lee Hallgren Truchon passed away on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 in Bellingham. She was 82, born on Aug. 19, 1924.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Moles Ferndale Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Moles Family Funeral Home.
William A. Honcoop
William A. “Bill” Honcoop, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006.
A son of Anthony and Marie (VanWeerthuizen) Honcoop, he was born in the Lynden area on June 26, 1919. He was married to Ruth Bauman in Lynden on Feb. 14, 1946, and together they operated a dairy farm and raised their family primarily on the Tom Road near Everson. They moved into Bellingham three years ago.
Clarence Vanderhage
Clarence “Tex” Vanderhage, age 78, of Blaine passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 31, 2006.
He was born on May 6, 1928 in Billings, Mont., to William and Johanna (Bakker) Vanderhage. Following high school and serving two years in the U.S. Army, he then graduated from Washington State University with a teaching degree. Clarence taught for 28 years in the Blaine School District and was a member of Blaine United Church of Christ.
Kaare Holsather
Kaare E. Holsather, age 85, of Bellingham died at Shuksan Health Care Center on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2006.
Kaare was a son of Albert and Bertha Holsather, born in Egersund, Norway, on May 11, 1921. From Norway Kaare’s family moved to Minnesota in 1923 and then to Yakima where he graduated from high school, and finally to Lynden. He was married to Betty Wilson in Lynden on Valentine's Day 1942.
Mildred Lahtonen
Mildred Elizabeth “Betty” Lahtonen, age 88, of Ferndale died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 following a long illness with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Betty was born in Parkersburg, W.V., on April 29, 1918. Her parents were Raymond and Mildred Whitney Flower. Her family moved to Huntington, W.V., where she attended high school and Marshall College.
Margene Zylema
Margene E. “Marge” Zylema, age 66, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 following a courageous 10-year battle with breast cancer.
A lifetime Whatcom County resident, Margene was born on April 30, 1940 in Bellingham to William C. and Margaret (Ottens) VanDyken. She graduated from Lynden Christian High School in 1959 and was married to Jay Zylema on Dec. 29, 1961 in Bellingham.
Dick Kooistra
Dick Kooistra, age 86, of Sumas peacefully met his Lord and Savior in his sleep early on Saturday morning, Dec. 30, 2006.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1920 in Rinsumageest, the Netherlands, to Auke and Gelske (Wymenga) Kooistra. He married Alice Kingma on July 21, 1948. In February 1949 they immigrated by boat to New York on their way to new opportunities in Canada.
Rynie Elsasser

Rynie Elsasser, age 88, formerly of Sedro Woolley, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006.
He was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, on Feb. 5, 1918. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion and the Wildcat Steelhead Club.
Rynie was predeceased by his wife, Audrey Lucille.
He left behind a daughter, Joyce; son-in-law Ray; granddaughter Wendy; three great-grandsons; and sisters Lillian Petersen and Edith Reynolds.

Phillip Gierman, age 23, of Ferndale passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.
A memorial service was held at the Ferndale Senior Center on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007.
Arrangements were with Moles Greenacres Funeral Home, Cemetery, and On-site Crematory.
Dorothy Trull

Dorothy Mae Trull of Everson passed away on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006.
Dorothy was born on May 13, 1920 in Everson to George and Ruth Todd. She married Roy D. Trull on Nov. 7, 1938.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother. She had four sons, Roy (Sharon A.), Dennis (Adalgisa), Darrell (Jani) and Richard (Sharon K.). Dorothy was grandmother to eight granddaughters and four grandsons; great-grandmother to eight great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons; and she had one great-great-grandson.

Ervin Arvid Hanson of Seaside, Ore., age 79, passed away at Seaside Hospital on Dec. 27, 2006.
He was born on March 9, 1927 in Ferndale to Edwin and Alma Hanson. Before entering the military service at age 17, he purchased the Salstrom place next to his parents' and grandparents' farm on Grandview Road.

William A. “Bill” Honcoop, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006.
