Gary Haines, Tumwater, 54, died May 29, 2004, after an extended illness.
He died at home, attended by Susan, his high school sweetheart and wife of 33 years; his brother, Dan, and brother-in-law, Boyd Walton.
He was born in Omak March 27, 1950, to William and Hazel Haines, who preceded him in death. He was the fourth of six children.
Memorial services were June 4 at the First Baptist Church of Tumwater and June 5 at the Walton Ranch near Omak. Memorials are suggested to the Reader Board Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church of Tumwater, 405 East X St., Tumwater 98501.
Mills and Mills Funeral Home, Tumwater, was in charge of arrangements.

Westen Phillip Johnson
Westen “Wes” Phillip Johnson, 21, lost his battle with drug abuse May 26, 2004, in Spokane
He was born April 12, 1983, in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 2001.
A funeral service was June 5 at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, with interment following at Riverside Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to Pioneer Center East, P.O. Box 9838, Spokane 99209-9838, or to the local Humane Society.Heritage Funeral Home, Spokane, was in charge of arrangements.

Leland Walter Zbylski
Leland Walter Zbylski, 68, died May 28, 2004, in the Wenatchee Valley Hospital, Wenatchee.
He was born Dec 14, 1935, in Okanogan to Stanley and Frances (Tomlinson) Zbylski and grew up in Riverside. His father, Stanley, delivered the mail for 38 years up Tunk Valley.
At his request there will be no services.

Rhonda E. Correia
Rhonda E. Correia, 43, Cle Elum, died June 3, 2004.
She was born July 21, 1961, in Taunton, Mass., to Joseph and Doris (Dreis) Correia. She had been a Cle Elum resident since 1994. She enjoyed decorating.
A service will be held in Taunton. Cascade Funeral Home, Ellensburg, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Clyde ‘Dick’ and Donna Lovejoy

Donna Lovejoy
Date of Birth: Tuesday June 14, 1938 - Date of Death: Thursday February 21, 2002
The families of Clyde “Dick” and Donna Lovejoy invite all family, friends and co-workers to a celebration of life memorial at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Conconully State Park (the Davis and Kruse campsite).
Following the memorial service interment will take place at the Pioneer Cemetery, and a reception will follow back at the campsite.
Memorials are suggested in his name to the Winthrop Firefighters Memorial, in care of Methow Arts Foundation, P.O. Box 723, Twisp, WA 98856.
Precht-Harrison Nearents Chapel, Okanogan, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Jean Wicks
Former Omak resident Helen Jean Wicks (Talcott), 81, died July 23, 2004, in Olympia.
She had lived in Hoodsport with her husband.
A celebration of life will be Aug. 15 at 13605 Peacock Hill Ave. N.W., Gig Harbor.
Funeral Alternatives of Washington, Olympia, is handling arrangements.

James A. Gjesvold
James A. Gjesvold, DVM, 65, Omak, died July 26, 2004, in a farming accident at his ranch.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Nome, N.D., to James and Ruth Gjesvold. He was raised in Eugene, Ore., and was in the Marine Corps for two years, stationed at Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., following high school. He received his bachelor of arts and master’s degrees from Oregon State University, and his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Washington State University in 1974.
A celebration to honor his life was July 30 at East Side Park in Omak, followed by burial at the Conconully Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Animal Foster Care, P.O. Box 3385, Omak, or Okanogan County CattleWomen’s scholarship fund, c/o treasurer Donna Harkness, 540 Windy Hill Road, Okanogan.
Precht-Harrison Nearents Chapel, Okanogan, was in charge of arrangements.

Vivian Marie Fuhrman
Vivian Marie Fuhrman, 87, died Aug. 3, 2004, of a heart ailment.
She was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Lake Stevens to Charles and Anna (Zemke) LaRue, and grew up in Winthrop.
A memorial service will be scheduled at the Omak First Presbyterian Church at a time permitting out-of-town family to attend.

Stanley L. Behrens
Stanley L. Behrens, 75, Okanogan, died Aug. 2, 2004, after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 13, 1928, to Ernest H. and Rebecca (Boren) Behrens in Okanogan. He grew up in Okanogan County, loved to hunt and fish, loved animals and the outdoors.
A memorial service was Aug. 8 at the Omak First Assembly of God.
Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel, Okanogan, was in charge of arrangements.

Estelle Bedard Prigmore
Estelle Bedard Prigmore, 89, Grants Pass, Ore., died July 7, 2004.
She was born in Okanogan as one of Joseph Filias Bedard and Lena Wilcox’s six children. Her mother was a great-granddaughter of Okanogan Chief Aeneas.

Mary L. Thronson
Mary L. Thronson, 90, died Aug. 7, 2004, at Mid-Valley Hospital, Omak, following a heart attack.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel, Okanogan.
Memorials are suggested to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, c/o Peg Fisher, Omak.

Arthur Joseph “Joe” Best
Arthur Joseph “Joe” Best, 80, died Aug. 1, 2004, at his home.
He was born June 13, 1924, in Tonasket to Lillian (Brady) and Arthur Best Sr. He attended St. Mary’s Mission until the ninth grade and began work with his father on the family farm in Kartar Valley.
A community rosary was Aug. 9 at the Omak Longhouse with Mass and burial services Aug. 10 at St. Mary’s Mission. Dinner followed at the Omak Longhouse.
Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel, Okanogan, was in charge of arrangements.

Sara Jo (Belles) Betrozoff
Redmond

Sara Jo Betrozoff of Redmond, Washington died October 1, 2004, at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland, Washington.
She was born in Omak on January 7, 1936. She graduated from Omak High School in 1954, attended the University of Washington, and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in education.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 19024/J5-200, Seattle, WA 98109-1024.
Cremation arrangements were done by the Neptune Society.

Randy Scott Taber
Tonasket

Randy Scott Taber, 49, of Tonasket, died Sunday, Oct. 3. 2004 of injuries sustained in an accident. Randy was born June 8, 1955 in Victorville, CA to Clarence and Doris Taber. He attended school in both Tonasket and Oroville, graduating from Oroville High School in 1973. Randy attended Big Bend College in Moses Lake, receiving his FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate. He was an orchardist for many years and for the past 6 years he owned and operated Taber Distributing.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oroville, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Peerless Restaurant in Oroville. The Neptune Society is in charge of cremation.

Florence C. Roberts
Olympia
October 15, 1911 - October 1, 2004

Florence C. Roberts of Olympia, WA passed quietly from this world on Friday, October 1, 2004. Florence was born October 15, 1911 in Spokane, WA to Anna and Charles Smith.
In 1934, Florence married Ronald S. Roberts, moving to the Okanogan Valley in 1935 where they resided until his death in 1980. She remained in Tonasket, WA until 1996 when she moved to Olympia to be near family.
A Memorial Service was held Friday, October 8, 2004, at 11:30 AM, in the Chapel of The United Churches, 110 Eleventh Ave SE, (corner of 11th and Capital Way), Olympia, WA.

Henry L. Barker
Okanogan County Pioneer
September 15, 1915 - September 27, 2004

Henry L. Barker was born to Edwin Barker and Mariah Mae Stilley Burnett Barker in Pleasant Valley next door to the Pine Grove School District 44 school house and teacher’s cottage.
Henry was born just yards away from the log school house build by his maternal grandparents, Jeremiah and Mariah Burr Stilley in the year 1915, when the frame building was completed.
Henry was uncle to many nieces and nephews who will gather at Deception Pass for a private disurnment of his ashes and celebrate his life on October 16, 2004.

Herman (Kim) Kimberlin

Herman (Kim) Kimberlin passed away November 25, 2004 at his home after a long illness. Born in Hayward, OK, May 6, 1930 to Roscoe and Maude Kimberlin. Kim married Beth Woodside, May 17, 1948 in Chelan, WA.
There will be no services at his request.

George E. Morehouse
Grand Junction, CO
George E. Morehouse of Grand Junction, CO, passed away at his home on November 7, 2004. He was 87. George lived in Grand Junction since 1951. He was born in Tribune, Kansas and spent his youth in Idaho and Washington. His family moved to Omak in 1928, and he graduated from Omak High School in 1935.

Marian A. Court
Winthrop
Marian A. Court, 88, Winthrop, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004.
She was born February 12, 1916 to William and Sarah Price of Seattle. Marian graduated from Franklin H.S. in 1934 and from Western Normal in Bellingham in 1938.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Methow Valley United Methodist Church on Highway 20 between Twisp and Winthrop.

Marian L. Muench
Des Moines, WA
Marian L. Muench, 89, died October 24, 2004, at Des Moines, WA where she had lived at Wesley Gardens, following the death of her husband in 1991. She was born on Pogue Flat near Omak on November 12, 1914, to Hugh and Blanche (Jacquish) Minnich.
Celebration for her life was held November 13, 2004, at Wesley Gardens, Des Moines, WA.

Dorothy Alexander Canfield
October 17, 1912 - Saturday January 29, 2005
Dorothy W. Canfield, 92, spent most of her life in the Okanogan Valley and parts of Washington. She was born in Almira, Washington in 1912.
At her request, no funeral will be held. The immediate family will gather at her graveside on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005. Viewing will be at Barnes Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Barnes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family requests memorials be made in Dorothy’s name to the Brewster Senior Center.

Matt H. Snyder
Grand Coulee
Matt H. Snyder, 88, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Coulee Community Hospital in Grand Coulee. He was born in Aeneas Valley, Wash., Feb. 13,1916, to August and Helen Snyder.
Services were held at Strate Funeral Home, Grand Coulee on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Tonasket Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Spokane, Wash.

Raymond L. Nicholson
Omak
Raymond L. Nicholson, 62, of Omak,WA passed away due to extended illness on January 4, 2005 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
A rosary service for Raymond was held at Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held Friday, January 7, 2005 at 10 a.m. also at Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel.

Pauline B. Curtis
Tonasket
Pauline B. Curtis, age 68, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 in the North Valley Nursing Home in Tonasket, WA.
Pauline was born March 28, 1938 in Rexford, MT to Alden and Annetta White.
Services are to be held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Tonasket Community Church at 10 a.m., Kathy Yode and Gin Mingma officiating. Bergh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Pauline Curtis Memorial Fund, to help fund a annual nursing school scholarship for a deserving aide form the nursing home, or to the Tonasket Community Church. Donations to the memorial fund can be sent in Pauline’s name to the US Bank branch in Tonasket, WA.

Susan ‘Susy’ Vess
Susan “Susy” Vess, 67, Omak, died Jan. 14, 2005.
She was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Missouri.
There will be a celebration of her life in the spring.

Roger Bissell
A celebration of life will be held for Roger Bissell on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005. At this time friends and family also will celebrate his 40th birthday.
