TENA MARIAN KRUMB
Tena Marian Krumb, 53, of Prosser passed away Saturday, April 22, 2006.
She was born Jan. 31, 1953 in Seattle to Roy S. and Marian R. (Emerson) Boast. She received her education in Prosser, graduating with the Prosser High School Class of 1971. On May 7, 1994 she married Edward Krumb at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grandview.
Tena worked as a bartender and a meat cutter. She enjoyed computer games, camping, knitting, singing karaoke and playing darts. Tena was a member and a six-time past madam president of Prosser Eagles Auxiliary and a member of the Prosser Eagles Hall of Fame.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Krumb; her mother, Marian Boast of Grandview; two brothers, Lynn Boast and Mark Boast, both of Prosser; and her canine companions, Boots and Scooter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Boast.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, April 28, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 29, 2006, from 9 a.m. to noon with funeral services following at Smith Funeral Home, Grandview. Burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery. Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to the Prosser Eagles for W.S.U. Cancer Research Fund. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MAY IRWIN
May Irwin, 99, a longtime Sunnyside resident died Saturday, May 6, 2006 in Sunnyside.
She was born April 30, 1907 in Murray, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Cora (Guthrie) Root. She received her education in South Dakota. On October 21, 1924 she married Jay Irwin at Zell, S.D., where they farmed. In 1941 the Irwin family moved to Sunnyside. Her husband, Jay Irwin, died in April of 1976, and she continued to make Sunnyside her home until the time of her death.
She is survived by one grandson, Keith Cranford; one granddaughter, Patricia McMeans; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay; daughter, Avis Cranford in 2004; five brothers; and three sisters.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, from 1 to 5:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sunnyside. Burial will be in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside.
LEANDRA D. PEREZ
Leandra D. Perez, 92, of Prosser died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Grandview Healthcare Center.
She was born in Masaya, Nicaragua
She is survived by one daughter, Marina Perez of Nicaragua; three sons, Luis Lopez-Perez of San Francisco, Calif., Casar A. Lopez-Perez of Prosser and Ramon Lopez-Perez of Los Angeles, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Monday, May 8, 2006 at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
THOMAS J. RADACH
Thomas J. Radach, 67, of Sunnyside passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at his home.
He was born May 8, 1939 in North Dakota to John and Matilda (Huther) Radach.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Radach of Yakima; two sons, Thomas Adam Radach and David Radach; two brothers, Robert Radach of Sunnyside and Fred Radach of Grandview; and two sisters, Ruth Taylor of Independence, Mo. and Irene Hall of Spokane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.
A memorial funeral service will be held Thursday, June 22, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 406 E. Second Street, Grandview. Inurnment will be in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside. Smith Funeral Home Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
RICHARD ALAN FREDRICKS
Richard (Rick) Alan Fredricks, 52, of Grandview passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2006, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.
Rick was born March 27, 1954 to Claude and Patricia Fredricks at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Mountain Home, Idaho. He moved to Grandview when he was one year old and lived there until he graduated from Grandview High School with the Class of 1972. After attending Washington State University for three years, he transferred to Central Washington University and graduated in 1978. He worked as a bank supervisor of cash distributions at Peoples’ Bank in Pioneer Square in Seattle and continued with them after it became US Bank.
Rick enjoyed traveling, playing video games with his nephews and was an avid reader, reading anything and everything.
He is survived by his parents, Claude and Pat Fredricks of Grandview; his brother, Ron; his sister-in-law, Keiko; and his two adored nephews, Kevin and Mich, both of Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Goldie Rowan and Forest and Beulah Fredricks.

JOSEFINA HURTADO
Josefina Hurtado, 60, of Prosser entered into rest Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 18, 1945 in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico to Rafael and Paula (Ramirez) Garcia. After her father’s death, she was raised by her mother. On March 2, 1960 at the age of 14, Josefina married Felipe Hurtado in Mexico. They were very happily married and she referred to Felipe as “my treasure”. Josefina first visited Prosser in 1976 and then came back with her family, in 1980 to live. She worked as a farm laborer, harvesting hops and cherries and also had a small cherry orchard at home. In 1991, she became a full time homemaker.
Josefina enjoyed being at home, taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, music and singing. She loved pets and raised parrots, cats and dogs.
Josefina is survived by her husband, Felipe Hurtado of Prosser; six children, Jesus Hurtado and Rafaela Atilano, both of Prosser, Irma Rodriguez of Texas, Rodolfo Hurtado, Josefina Lopez and Felipe Hurtado Jr., all of Prosser; four sisters, Andrea Hurtado and Rita Munoz, both of San Jose, Calif., Bertha Pedroza and Juana Garcia, both of Mexico; two brothers, Fernando Garcia of Grandview and Benito Garcia of Mexico; and 22 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Carmela Pedroza of Mexico.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 22, 2006, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, June 23, 2006, from 9 a.m. to noon at Prosser Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be held Thursday, June 22, 2006, at 7 p.m. at Prosser Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 23, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser. Prosser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
WILBUR NEWELL BOYD
Wilbur “Bill” Newell Boyd, 90, of Spokane and a former Sunnyside resident passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane.
Wilbur received his education in Oklahoma. In 1938 he married his high school sweetheart, Alvadeen Perkins in Kingfisher, Okla. They moved to Bremerton 1942, where he worked in the shipyard during WWII. In 1949 after the war, they moved to Sunnyside, where Wilbur was the chief engineer at the Carnation Plant. For 10 years, Wilbur was construction engineer for Carnation plants on the West Coast until retiring 1982. Following retirement, the Boyds moved to Yuma, Ariz. His wife, Alvadeen, passed away in December of 2004, and for the past year Wilbur had made his home in Spokane to be close to his daughter.
Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing and inventing. Wilbur invented a machine for the Carnation Company that automatically put the caps on the whipped cream cans.
Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Judy Guhlke and husband, Richard, of Spokane; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alvadeen Boyd; two sons, Michael and William Boyd; and three brothers. Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, July 6, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
Joseph Kennedy Fisher III
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. May 21at Pioneer Park, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim, for Sequim resident Joseph Kennedy Fisher III, who died May 7, 2006, at the age of 76. He was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Alice Arleene and Joseph Kennedy Fisher Jr. He married JoAnn Strange on Oct. 7, 1951, in Kelso. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business at Oregon State College in 1951. He served in the Coast Guard from February 1952 to February 1954. He served as an ensign in Alameda, Calif. He was a manufacturer of fly fishing rods in Santa Monica, Calif., Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Sequim. Before he had several strokes, he enjoyed volunteering at Greywolf Elementary School and at Railroad Bridge Park. He was a member of Sequim Church of Religious Science. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Fisher of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Pamela and Joseph K Ken Fisher IV of Port Angeles; daughters Nancy Kay and Aaron Michael Schein of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Susan Lynn and John Paul Richerts; brother and sister-in-law Walter James and Mary Fisher of Concord, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Jean Suzanna and Richard Bendel of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Mary B. Aardal
A private service will be held June 10 at Calvary Cemetery, 5212 70th St. West, Tacoma, for former Port Angeles and Sequim resident Mary B. Aardal. Mrs. Aardal died May 5, 2006, at the age of 97. She was born July 19, 1908, in San Francisco, Calif., to Aldrich and Josephine Fox, the fifth of eight children. The family owned and operated the Golden Eagle Dairy in Fife, which became Model Dairy, a well-known and progressive dairy in the western part of Pierce County. She married George S. Aardal on June 15, 1940, in Tacoma. He preceded her in death in 1995. In 1952, the family moved to Port Angeles, where she was an elementary teacher at Queen of Angels Catholic School until her retirement in 1970. What mattered most to her were her faith, her family and her job as an educator. In 1973 she and her husband moved to Dungeness Meadows in Sequim. They enjoyed gardening and world travel. Mrs. Aardal moved to Bellingham in 1997. She is survived by her children, Robert (Sharon) of Bellevue; Richard (Ginnie) of Vaughn; James (Jody) of Aurora, Colo.; Kathleen (Bob) Kelln of Bellingham; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters and special niece Bonnie (Gene) Baxter of Marysville. Dorothy E. Curtis
A funeral has been held for Sequim resident Dorothy E. Curtis, who died May 12, 2006, at the age of 86. She was born June 12, 1919, in Redstone, Mont. to James and Stella Chance. She was raised in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. She married Royal J. Curtis on March 6, 1941, in Spokane. They moved to Port Angeles in 1995 and to Sequim in 1999. In her leisure time, Mrs. Curtis enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and cooking. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for many years. She is survived by brothers Marvin Chance of St. Paul, Minn., and Leo Bob Chance, of Clarkston; sister Erma McMahon of Salem, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal, in October 2005. Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Fern Dutton
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Fern Dutton, who died May 10, 2006, at the age of 69. She was born July 5, 1936, in Ellenwood, Kans., to E.A. and Lovina Chadwick. She married Jackie Lee Dutton on Oct. 25, 1955. She lived in Alaska for many years before moving to Sequim. She loved to spend time with family and friends and spent many hours in prayer for her family. She is survived by her husband, Jackie Dutton; sons Lynn and Billie Dutton; daughter Jacque Husbey; mother Lovena Chadwick; sister Betty Harris; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
B. Jean Franklin
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Sequim resident B. Jean Franklin, who died May 6, 2006, at the age of 75. She was born in Oakland, Neb., to Clifford G. and Hilda P. (Nelson) Anderson. She married Henry A. Franklin on July 11, 1953, in Omaha, Neb. She also was a resident of Uehling, Neb., and Villa Park, Ill. She was proprietor of B.J.'s Country Corner in Villa Park, Ill. She retired in 1992. Mrs. Franklin was a member of local book and sewing clubs and enjoyed reading, word puzzles, flea markets and handicrafts. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Patricia Franklin of Gurnee, Ill. and Andrew and Holly Franklin of Sugar Grove, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law Kathleen Franklin-Snyder and her husband John; and Julie Franklin-Sahajian and her husband Claude, all of Lexington, Ky.; Laura Franklin of Woodland, Calif.; sister-in-law Lourdes Smith of Sequim; and eight grandchildren.
Mary Margaret Tompkins
A service has been held for Sequim resident Mary Margaret Tompkins, who died May 6, 2006, at the age of 91. She was born May 6,1915, in Portage, Penn., to Steve and Anna (Krupa) Evanick. She married James M. Tompkins on June 22, 1948, in Yuma, Ariz. She lived in Trenton, N.J.; Coronado, Calif.; Anchorage, Alaska; and Grants Pass, Ore.; before retiring to Sequim. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She is survived by her husband, James M. Tompkins of Sequim; son Leon Feigenbutz of Port Angeles; sister Kathrin Kuykendahl of Jensen Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Vincent J. Feigenbutz; brothers Pete, Mike and John Evanick and sister Mildred Evanick. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Robert L. Swain
A service for Port Angeles resident Robert L. Swain will be held at 11 a.m. May 17 at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles. A reception will follow the service. Mr. Swain died May 12, 2006, at the age of 74. He was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Vallejo, Calif., to Leslie and Eva (Hydt) Swain. He married June Mary Groff. He was an electrician's mate second class in the United States Navy. He served during the Korean War, from February 1951 to February 1955. He graduated from California Polytechnic in California and worked as an electrical engineer for NASA in Canoga Park, Calif. He is survived by his wife, June Swain of Port Angeles; son Patrick E. Martin of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; daughter-and son-in-law Mary and Ron Earle; sister Lillian Heissner; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Clarene Esther Birch
A service was held for Sequim resident Clarene Esther Birch, who died March 6, 2006, at the age of 77. Mrs. Birch was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Midvale, Utah, to Clarence and Esther (Downs) Rasmussen. She married Byron Glade Birch on July 31, 1946, in Sandy, Utah. As a young couple, they moved to Portland, Ore., and lived there for more than 20 years. They then moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she worked for Industrial Indemnity Insurance Company. She and her husband retired to Sequim in 1992. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated many years to giving service through its Relief Society as both ward and stake president. She was a gifted speaker and known for her thoughtfulness and caring. She loved to paint, crochet, garden and read. She is survived by her husband, Glade Birch, of Sequim; sons and daughters-in-law Dana and Nancy Birch, of Chula Vista, Calif., and Kevin and Gayle Birch, of Salem, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Shari and Jon Cooper, of Irmo, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Jane Ellen Cooper
No services were reported for Sequim resident Jane Ellen Cooper, who died March 11, 2006, at the age of 61. Ms. Cooper was born Aug. 7, 1944, in Gadsden, Ala., to Al L. and Jettie Merle (Farabee) Cooper. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, Ga., and an M.S.W. from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. She worked as a hospital field director and a social worker for the American Red Cross in Vietnam. She also worked for the American Red Cross in Florida; North Carolina; Ohio; Georgia; and Louisiana from 1966-78. She then worked as head of telecommunications for Pemco Financial Center in Seattle from 1979-1996. She then became a freelance wildlife photographer after moving to Sequim in 2000. She was an avid reader, strong Democrat, and independent and strong woman. She also loved keeping track of eagles and the elk herd. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Audrey and Al Cooper Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas; and sister and brother-in-law Mary E. and David Braun of Bellevue. Edward Fitzpatrick
No services were reported for Sequim resident Edward Henry Fitzpatrick, who died Feb. 17, 2006, at the age of 83. He was born on March 1, 1922 in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Joseph and Helena Fitzpatrick. He would say his family didn't have much in the way of money, but they had each other. He attended St. Mary's School and Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen. In high school, he was involved in many school activities and especially enjoyed being on the track team. He held a state record for many years in the pole vault. He also had fond memories of attending a junior college in Sacramento, Calif. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Fitzpatrick told many stories about being stationed in the hot and humid Philippines toward the end of World War II. He was proud that he and all seven of his brothers served during the war. He met Dolores Rapsch in 1945. They were married on Nov. 28, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen, Wash. The couple was married for 58 years, 20 of those years in the same home in Aberdeen. Because of the beginnings of his long respiratory illness, they moved out of their home and settled in Sequim in 1983. He always provided well for his family. He was a longshoremen for 25 years, primarily in Aberdeen before retiring after the last few in Port Angeles. He enjoyed his work and was admired and respected by his fellow workers. When he had time he enjoyed playing golf with his longshore friends after work and played in tournaments. He was an expert razor clam digger, a great cook, and appreciated being in nature whether standing on the beaches at Westport or Ocean Shores, walking on an old logging road, or admiring the view from his recliner looking out the window in his home in Sequim. While he lived in Sequim, he developed an intimate familiarity with Sequim's backroads during his daily two plus mile walks. Along all of his walks, Ed would wave and say hello to everyone who came his way. And as a volunteer for Volunteer Chore Services for about 15 years, he enjoyed becoming acquainted with people from all walks of life whom he drove to medical appointments from the Olympic Peninsula to Seattle and back. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, of Sequim; sons David and Les, of Washington, Steve, of Arizona, John, of Kentucky, and Ed Jr., of Alaska; daughters Susan, of Texas, Janice, of Alaska, and Barbara, Molly and Rosann, of Washington; brothers Les, of Washington, and Bob, of Idaho; sister Helen, of Alaska; 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Donald Dare Gilstrap
A celebration of life will be held in May 2006 in Fresno for Sequim resident Donald Dare Gilstrap, who died March 6, 2006, at the age of 76. Call 559-348-0500 for more information. Mr. Gilstrap was born April 29, 1929, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Hardy Ransom and Katherine (Laster) Gilstrap. He attended school in Bakersfield and Tollhouse, Calif. He was a veteran for the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy. He married Doris June Richards in Virginia City, Nev., on Dec. 18, 1963. He was a hydro power plant operator. He enjoyed his job with Pacific Gas & Electric for 45 years. He still managed to backpack, golf and fish. After retiring, he loved to work in his yard and took special interest in the art of picture framing. He was a Mason for 52 years in Clovis, Calif., and IBEW Union. He lived in Balch Camp, Bakersfield and Wishon, Calif. He retired to Sequim. He was an all-around dad and husband. He is survived by his wife, Doris J. Gilstrap, of Sequim; son Terry Gilstrap, of Laton, Calif.; and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sons Larry Gilstrap and Barry Gilstrap; daughter Len Safford; and a granddaughter. Albert A. Manzie
A funeral mass was held for Sequim resident Albert A. Manzie, who died March 10, 2006, at the age of 82. Mr. Manzie was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Chicago, Ill., to Peter and Bessie (Dolsey) Manzie. He served in the United States Navy as a gunners mate from May 1941-Oct. 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific, European theater, African theater and American area. He married Dorothy Jablonski on Aug. 2, 1943, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a rigger for Republic Steel Mill in Illinois for nine years. He was then a lieutenant in the Chicago Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of the Chicago Firefighters Union for 50 years and AFL-CIO for nine years. He moved to Sequim in 1979. He enjoyed fishing, camping, trail walking, woodworking and gardening. He was a eucharistic minister and an usher at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Manzie, of Sequim; son Peter Manzie, of Elgin, Ill.; daughter Lorraine Pivarski, of Crete, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mary Jane Manley Fiorito Supplee
A service was held for former Sequim resident Mary Jane Manley Fiorito Supplee, who died March 6, 2006, at the age of 92. Mrs. Supplee was born April 28, 1913. She attended Visitation Villa in Tacoma. She was a devout Catholic, a loving mother, a great speller, and generous and gracious. She loved to dance with her sons and enjoyed life in abundance. She was married to Joe Fiorito from 1938-1963. She was married to Neal Supplee from 1968-1992. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Leslie Fiorito, and Bob and Julee Fiorito; daughter-in-law Shirley Fiorito; stepchildren and their spouses Neal and Janice Supplee, and Diane and Fred Allmaras; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Elvira; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe; second husband Neal; son John Fiorito; daughter Patty James; and seven siblings. Laura L. Swan
A service has been held for Sequim resident Laura L. Swan, who died Feb. 22, 2006, at the age of 93. Mrs. Swan was born Oct. 22, 1912, in Aberdeen to John and Roklund Karvonen. She was raised in Aberdeen and went to school there. She grew up speaking Finnish and Swedish. She married Clifford H. Swan on July 9, 1938. She was a homemaker and mother in Hoquiam. The Swans moved to Port Angeles and were always active Lutheran Church members. They retired to Sequim, where they were active members of Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed collecting, reading, artistic projects, bowling, and fishing with her husband. She belonged to both charity groups and hobby clubs. She is survived by her daughter Carol Keehner of California; and two grandchildren. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Allen 'Skip' T. Van Ness
A memorial service will be announced at a later date for Port Angeles resident Allen Skip T. Van Ness, who died March 1, 2006, at the age of 68. Mr. Van Ness was born July 29,1937, in Everett, to Albert and Martha (Stockdale) Steuber. He was close to his stepfather, Roy Van Van Ness. He graduated from Sequim High School in 1955. He served in the Navy Reserve from 1958-60. His marriage to Julianne Keith ended in divorced in 1965. He married Rachel Ann Huard in 2001. He was a Boeing electronics technician in Seattle from 1960-68, a sawmill operator in Port Angeles from 1973-79, and worked at Rasco Rings in Port Angeles from 1984-89 and in 2005. He enjoyed flying, model railroading, building computers, working outside and in his workshop, and spending time with his friends and numerous club activities. He was a member of Sequim Masonic Lodge, Experimental Aircraft Association-Sequim and Port Townsend chapters, Model Railroaders of Sequim and Sequim Personal Computer Users Group. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Van Ness, of Port Angeles; parents-in-law Gary and Carol Huard; brother-in-law John Huard; and sister-in-law Cindy Bidegary.
