Lawrence "Larry" Donald Wilder
On October 18, 2010, our precious Larry left us way too soon. We are struggling with the loss yet rejoice that he is at peace with God and released from his pain. Larry was devoted to all his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
Larry loved God and was a true servant, graciously helping with time, talents, and finances to those who needed it. Throughout his life, he found pleasure in nature and its restorative powers. Larry had a lifelong passion for fishing, always a reliable topic of conversation.
He was a man's man who, at the same time, was an incredibly tender provider and protector to the people in his life. He inherited his Grandpa Hochstatter's farmer's heart; he nurtured his fruit trees, garden, and home. Larry was particularly gifted with the ability to fix anything. He readily volunteered to help others, especially elderly women and those in need.
Larry was born November 10, 1940, to Philip and Mary Wilder in Yakima, WA. Upon graduation from high school, he served as an administrator in the U.S. Army, stationed in France. He was employed in a managerial capacity with P.I.E. Trucking. After that, he assisted in establishing a Yellow Freight terminal in Yakima, serving as its branch manager. His last employment was as a transit operator for the City of Yakima, during which time he earned the "Million Mile Award" for safe driving.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Philip Wilder and his nephew Mark Long. He is survived by his wife Arlene, mother Mary Wilder, sister Janet Long and husband Lynn; daughters Shelly Enstrom (husband Mark) and Penny Wilder; sons Todd Bayles and Scott Bayles (wife Tina); six grandchildren Jake, Rachel, and Lexi Enstrom and Amaya, Daniel, and Caroline Bayles; nieces Cynthia Brown and Ashley Long, and nephew Matthew Long.
Larry was grateful for the many special people in his life. He also was deeply influenced by Pastor Dale Carpenter's friendship and spiritual guidance, as well as the longtime loving friendship of Gary and Margaret King. Larry was a lifelong member of Stone Church, serving as head usher for many years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse, Salvation Army, or the Union Gospel Mission. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 22, 2010 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, with a memorial service at 11:30 am at The Stone Church, 3300 Englewood.
