Martin F. Charvet

Martin Franklin Charvet, 76, of Grandview died Thursday in Yakima. Mr. Charvet was born in Mabton and served in the Army. He worked as a field man for Libby's in Grandview for two years and then went to work for the United States Postal Service for 28 years. He also farmed, raising Welch grapes for over 40 years.
Survivors include a son, Randy Charvet of Grandview; a brother, Ernie Charvet; and three grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Mass of Christian burial will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview. Burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery.
Elmer Newcomb

Elmer Newcomb, 79, of Yakima died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Newcomb was born in Leachville, Ark. He worked in janitorial services in California for many years before moving to the Yakima Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Newcomb of Yakima; five children, Edward D. Newcomb of Phoenix, Donald L. Newcomb and Dennis E. Newcomb of Yakima, Jerry W. Newcomb of Fort Myers, Fla., and Penny Skelton of Moxee; three sisters, Mary Arbuckle of Battle Ground, Wash., Opal of Palm Springs, Calif., and Virginia McCullough of Alabama; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Virginia L. Newquist

Virginia L. Newquist, 85, of Toppenish died Wednesday. Mrs. Newquist was born in Pullman, Wash. She worked for the dean of women at WSU. She then moved south of Toppenish with her husband to the family ranch on the Satus and worked at many canneries in the Lower Valley.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Toppenish; a daughter, Linda Threewit of Kooskiea, Idaho; two sons, Robert and Jon, both of Toppenish; a brother, Robert Clower of Columbia, S.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home.
Diane M. Randall

Diane M. Randall, 62, of Portland died Friday in Seattle.
She was born in Yakima. She worked as a seamstress for Baley's jean factory, Mt. Adams Furniture Factory and Nike Outfitters.
Survivors include her husband, Alvino Renteria of Portland; six children, Nanette Robinson of Camas, Wash., and Theodore Hart, Alvino Renteria Jr., Descileena Randall, Shashanah Randall and Zachariah Randall, all of Portland; two sisters, Patricia Randall and Georgiann Riggs, both of Wapato; and five grandchildren.
Dressing services were Saturday at the Toppenish Longhouse. The funeral will be Monday morning, with burial at Union Gap Cemetery. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home of Toppenish.
Vernon L. Alexander

Vernon Larry Alexander, 93, of Yakima died Friday in Yakima.
Mr. Alexander was born in Peach, Wash. He worked as a mechanic at Wikstrom Motors in Yakima for 44 years.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Alexander of Yakima.
Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, with a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lavone "Swede" Swanson, 76, of Yakima died Sunday in Yakima. He was born in Revillo, S.D. After graduating from Yakima High School, he served three years in the U.S. Navy. He later worked as a fire fighter for the City of Yakima.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Swanson of Yakima; son, Randy Swanson of Port Orchard, Wash.; two daughters, Debbie Shelton and Michelle Ostler, both of Yakima; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Private services are being planned. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.
Michael J. Koreski

Michael J. Koreski, 77, of Grandview died Wednesday at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.
Mr. Koreski was born in Yakima and served in the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Moxee and worked at Motor Companies until he went into hop farming in 1957. He farmed in Mabton and Grandview until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Koreski of Grandview; four children, Mark Koreski of Grandview, Alicia Beaulaurier of Albany, Ore., Leah Holbrook of Yakima and Eric Koreski of Sammamish, Wash.; a sister, Maryann Wright of Dupont, Wash.; six grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Viewing will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Cathedral Church, with a vigil at 5 p.m. Viewing will continue Monday from noon until 1 p.m., with Mass of Christian burial following at 1:30 p.m., all at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Affordable Funeral Care of Ellensburg.
Terence Seward

Terence (Terry) Seward, 75, of Port Townsend, Wash., died Monday of complications following a stroke.
Mr. Seward was born in Montana and then moved to Wapato with his family. He was, for a time, associate administrator of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima.
Survivors include his wife, Maryann; a daughter, Julie Mallory of Winnetka, Ill.; a son, Paul Seward of Tacoma; a sister, Lynda Bryan of Seattle; a brother, Robert Seward of Yakima; and three granddaughters.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Port Townsend. Arrangements are by Linde Family Funeral Service of Sequim, Wash.
Juan C. Albarran

Juan C. Albarran, 22, of Wapato died Thursday in Yakima. Mr. Albarran was born and raised in Toppenish. He worked as a delivery person and a forklift driver in Seattle.
Survivors included his fiancee, Heather Payne of Wapato; his parents, Juan Albarran of Seattle and Angelina Vela of Harrah; a daughter, Nevaeh Albarran of Wapato; his grandparents, Lupe Vela and Miguel Perez of Harrah; two brothers, Joe Vela of Yakima and Miguel Vela of Harrah; and three sisters, Yolanda Vela of Toppenish, Cassandra Albarran of Yakima and Yesenia Albarran of Union Gap.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, with recitation of the rosary at 5 p.m., all at Colonial Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Toppenish.

Jeffery Allen Collins, 41, of Wapato died Thursday. Mr. Collins was born in Yakima. He worked as a framer in the construction industry.
Survivors include his mother, Beverly Collins of Wapato; his wife, Lisa Collins of the Tri-Cities; two daughters, Kirsten Roche and Kristen Collins, both of Terrace Heights; and four sisters, Venita Tupy of Wapato and Sheila Lopez, Marilyn Matthew and Donna Roe, all of Yakima.

Walter Leroy Saunders, 58, of Union Gap died Tuesday. Mr. Saunders was born in Goldendale. He was a longtime maintenance manager on the Hanford nuclear reservation. He was also involved with a Yakima archery shop for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Saunders of Union Gap; two sons, Nolan Elliott of West Richland and Saunsiarae "Erek" Saunders of Union Gap; two sisters, Debra Williams of Laramie, Wyo., and Roxanne Roberts of Richland; and three grandchildren.

Donald G. Ward, a resident of Parkside Nursing Care Center in Union Gap, died Sunday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his companion, Jan Brown Ward of Yakima; a son, Steve Ward of Yakima; a daughter, Carol Ann Chapman of Richland; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at West Valley Missionary Church of Yakima.

Rodney Lee Mitchell, 58, of Yakima died Saturday in Yakima.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Van Nuys, Calif. He worked 28 years with UBCarpenters and nine years as a carpenter instructor with Job Corps in White Swan.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Mitchell of Yakima; a son, Rodney A. Mitchell of Texas; two daughters, Mary Chambers of Wyoming and Carrie Vick of Florida; a stepson, TJ Coggins of Washington; a brother, Tim Mitchell of Yakima; and two sisters, Barbara Manson and Karen Hatch, both of Yakima.

Anne Elizabeth Miller-Hewitt, 54, of Zillah died in a house fire Aug. 16. Mrs. Miller was born in Prosser. She began her career in law enforcement with the Toppenish Police Department. In 1987, she was hired as a communications officer with the Washington State Patrol. She managed the WSP's emergency communications center in Wenatchee.
Survivors include a son, Jason Gould of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Kathy Cunningham of Bellingham, Wash., and Pat Hewitt of Prosser; and a brother, Gene Pittman-Hewitt of Port Orchard, Wash.

Gary E. Miller, 55, of Zillah died in a house fire Aug. 16. Mr. Miller was born in Akron, Ohio, and served in the Army. He began his career in law enforcement as a reserve deputy for the Kittitas County Sheriff's Department. He then worked for the Grandview Police Department before joining the Washington State Patrol. In 1990, he was commissioned and assigned to District 3, Sunnyside.
Survivors include a son, Benjamin Miller of Bonney Lake, Wash.; a daughter, Sherry Miller of Spokane; two sisters, May Louise Dau of San Diego and Deborah May Bissette of Apple Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Thomas Benton Miller of Arkansas and Robert Allan Miller of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

Kristopher M. Sperry

Kristopher Matthew Sperry, 30, of Zillah died in a house fire Aug. 16. Mr. Sperry was born in Whitefish, Mont., and raised in Fortine and Eureka, Mont. He served four years in the Army in the legal department, then re-enlisted for another four years and was based in Fort Lewis, Wash. He then went to work for the Department of Corrections in Walla Walla. In 2008, he began his career with the Washington State Patrol. In June, he was assigned to District 3, Sunnyside.
Survivors include his mother, Marilyn, and her husband, Dennis; a sister, Kayleen; and a brother, Jason.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home.

Michael Le Mullins, 56, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Mullins was born in Deer Park, Ohio. He worked as a concrete system technician.
Survivors include two daughters, Nicole Funk of Michigan and Kelsie Earls Masten of Florida; a half-sister, Pam Caroll of Ohio; and a brother, Mark Mullins of Lakeland, Fla.

William Michael Burgard, 62, of Mabton died Saturday at home. Mr. Burgard was born in Harvey, N.D., and served in the Army and National Guard. He worked as an auto mechanic and later in parts sales.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Burgard of Mabton; a son, David Burgard of Mabton; two stepsons, Robert Gourneau and Mark Gourneau, both of Yakima; two daughters, Jessica Burgard and Helen Burgard, both of Mabton; a brother, Wendelin Burgard of Wyoming; a sister, Stella Lewis of North Dakota; and six grandchildren.

Eva Garcia Sanchez, 72, of Yakima, formerly of Sunnyside, died Saturday. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Eagle Pass, Texas. Her family lived in Arizona before settling in Sunnyside in 1956.
