Luis C. Mendoza, 66, of Grandview died Thursday in Prosser. Mr. Mendoza was born in Jalisco, Mexico. He lived in California before moving to Grandview in 1974. He worked for Golden Gate Hops for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Edelmira Estrada Mendoza; six children, Uriel Mendoza, Jacqueline Mendoza, Jose Luis Mendoza, Jasmine Lulu Mendoza, Javier Mendoza and Esteban Mendoza; a sister, Alicia Mendoza of Vista, Calif.; three brothers, Jose Mendoza of Vista, Ruben Mendoza of Temecula, Calif., and Javier Mendoza of Grandview; and 13 grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, with an evening service at 6 p.m., at the Apostolic Assembly Church in Sunnyside. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, also at the church. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home.
James E. Patrick

James Earl Patrick, 77, of Selah died Wednesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Patrick was born in Clark County, Miss., and worked as a maintenance supervisor for Del Monte, as well as theaters, including vaudeville.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Patrick, of Selah; two sons, Aubrey Patrick of Pacific Beach, Wash., and Rocky Patrick of Joliet, Mont.; two daughters, Patty Bowers of Selah and Rita Whiteside of Yakima; two sisters, Lucile Edwards of Darien, Ga., and Pauline Brewer of Richton, Miss.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A memorial service starts at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the same location. Burial will be in West Hills Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory in Yakima.
George Meshke

George Meshke, 79, of Yakima, died June 6 in Seattle.
Mr. Meshke was born in Seattle and served in the Army. He taught for 49 years, including 30 at Yakima Valley Community College.
Survivors include his brother, Paul Meshke of Newcastle, Wash.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. July 8 at the Yakima Valley Museum.

Leonard Adrian Wagner, 79, of Yakima, died Tuesday at Landmark Care Center in Yakima.
Mr. Wagner was born in Parker, Wash., and worked as a fruit farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Pearlene Wagner; a brother, Allen Wagner of Yakima; and asister, Rosalie Glines of Yakima.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tahoma Cemetery.

Richard D. Blevens, 64, of Selah, died Thursday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Blevens was born in Vancouver, Wash., and served in the Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and later worked as a security officer.
Survivors include his wife, Tamara Blevens of Selah; a daughter, Rhonda Skinner of Missouri; two sisters, Sharon Pittz of Nyssa, Ore., and Barbara Crane, of Kennewick; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Selah School District Transportation Department, 125 E. Home Ave.
A gravesite service with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash.

Margaret M. Barrett, 87, of Yakima, died Saturday.
Mrs. Barrett was born in Baker, Ore., and moved to the Yakima area at a young age. She worked as a sorter and packer in the canneries and also was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Archie Barrett Jr. of Tacoma and Louis Barrett of Yakima; a daughter, Donna Barrett-Warner of Yakima; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home in Yakima.
The funeral will be at 11 p.m. Thursday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, with a burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

James Edward Ackerman, 77, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Ackerman was born in Riceville, Iowa, and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a bricklayer and in 1964 moved to Yakima. He worked for Carroll High School and then for Kmart for 23 years, retiring in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen; four sons, Brad of Graham, Wash., Joel and Dave of Yakima and Jim of Selah; a daughter, Teresa Shervey of Yakima; two sisters, Dorothy and Eileen; a brother, John; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Selah. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Bruce Roy Deaver Sr., 60, of Yakima died Sunday at his home. Mr. Deaver was born and raised in Yakima. He worked as an ironworker on heavy construction projects.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Deaver of Yakima; three sons, Bruce Deaver Jr. of Moses Lake, Dennis Garbe and Brandon Matthew of Yakima; a daughter, Tammy Lea Deaver; two brothers, George Deaver and Don Lord; a sister, Sharon Schauer, all of Yakima; and three grandchildren.

Benjamin Walter Haynes, 79, of Yakima died Sunday at his home. Mr. Haynes was born in Glencoe, Mo., and served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for The Boeing Co., the Country Store Shopping Center, M & M Metal Fabricating and as a janitor at Ahtanum Pioneer Church.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Haynes of Yakima; four daughters, Pamela Herbst and Pat Haynes of Yakima, Fredia Thompson and Lori McRae of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Leonard Haynes of Louisville, Ky.; four sisters, Jane Hardy of Tickfau, La., Violet Andolina of Fairbanks, Alaska, Millie Lecocq of Valley Park, Mo., and Belle Brown of Bellevue, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rosa Cavasos Saldaña

Rosa Cavasos Saldaña, 81, of Grandview died Saturday. Mrs. Saldaña was born in Donna, Texas. She was a migrant worker from 1957 until 1968 and later worked as a CNA at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Grandview.
Survivors include 13 children, Mario Saldaña, Miguel Saldaña, Minerva Flores, Modesto Saldaña, all of Grandview; Martha Yanez, Maximino Saldaña, Marcos Saldaña, Emma Payan, Marsiano Saldaña, all of Sunnyside; Menjamin Saldaña of Kennewick, Margarito Saldaña of North Dakota, Majin Saldaña of Seattle and Moses Saldaña of Richland; 74 grandchildren, 133 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., all at Smith Funeral Home of Grandview. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview. Burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery.
John F. LaValla

John Frederick LaValla, 70, of Yakima died Friday. Mr. LaValla was born in Mason City, Wash., and served in the National Guard and then enlisted in the Army. He retired in April 2006 after 26 years as a chemical dependency counselor, mostly in the Seattle area.
Survivors include a daughter, Vonni Ann Marinan of Kingston, Wash.; two sisters, Lois Farmer of Tacoma and June Farnikoff of Kennewick; and his companion, Dorothy Dunn of Yakima.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

James Oliver Springfield, 75, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Springfield was born in Eden, Idaho. He worked as a lift truck mechanic at Larson Fruit for 15 years before retiring in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Springfield of Yakima; four brothers, Jerry Springfield of Quincy, Wash., Neil Potter, Noel Potter and Ronald Potter, all of Yakima; four sisters, Sharon Sue Rehfield and Donna Mann of Yakima, Judy Badillo of Bloomington, Calif., and Linda Romero of Lakeside, Calif.

Cornelius "Neil" VanderSchoor, 62, of Yakima died Saturday of cancer. Mr. VanderSchoor was born in Yakima and served in the Navy. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service and in sales with Automat Co., but spent most of his working career at Noel Canning, retiring in 2009.
Survivors include two sons, Cornelius Andrew VanderSchoor and Kelly James VanderSchoor, both of Yakima; and two sisters, Laurel Sorenson of Yakima and May St. George of Seattle.
Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, also at Keith and Keith. Concluding services and burial will follow in West Hills Memorial Park.

Bud Williams, 70, of Moxee died Saturday in Yakima. Mr. Williams was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., and moved to the Yakima area in 1972. He worked as a welder for the Yakima School District until his retirement in 2005.
Survivors include his mother, Lillian Welch Williams of Yakima; his companion, Nancy Kuhlman of Yakima; a son, Robert Holland of Kennewick; and a daughter, Melissa Kuhlman of Yakima.
The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
