Darril Duane Heitzman, 67, of Selah died Friday. Mr. Heitzman was born in Wenatchee and served in the Navy. He worked as an automotive technician.
Survivors include two sons, Darril Heitzman Jr. and Derik Heitzman of Reno, Nev.; three daughters, Tracie Heitzman of Enderby, British Columbia, Canada, Heather Heitzman of Reno and Debbie Phillips of Selah; a sister, Sandra Rockett of Yakima; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be on May 1, 2010. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Michael Hernandez, 39, of Toppenish died Sunday. Mr. Hernandez was born in Toppenish and raised and educated in the Yakima Valley. He worked as a farm laborer, cashier truck driver and most recently as a medical assistant at the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic.
Survivors include his wife, Elva Hernandez; two sons, Mike Hernandez Jr., and Leon Hernandez; a daughter, Melissa Hernandez; his parents, Linda Lozano and Frank Hernandez, all of Toppenish; three brothers, Carlos and Manuel of Toppenish and Fernando of Vancouver, Wash.; four sisters, Grace Hernandez of Florida, Artenia Hernandez, Tina Hernandez and Gloria Hernandez of Toppenish; his grandmother, Veronica DeVora of Yakima; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Sister Pauline Higgins, SP, 95, died Saturday at St. Joseph Residence. Sister Higgins was born in Sunnyside and had been with Sisters of Providence for more than 76 years.
Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Residence. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at St. Joseph Residence. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.

LeRoy A. Jansen, 88, of Ellensburg died Sunday at home. Mr. Jansen was born in Turton, S.D., and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He established and operated Jansen Distributing Co..
Survivors include his daughter, Connie Jansen of Ellensburg; and his son, Gary Jansen of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Memorial observation will be private. He will be inurned with his late wife, Lillian, in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are by Affordable Funeral Care of Ellensburg.

Wayne L. Larson, 85, of Toppenish died Saturday. Mr. Larson was born in North Dakota and was a World War II veteran. He had managed the Safeway store in Toppenish, was a card dealer in Las Vegas, and was a long-haul truck driver. After retiring, he drove a People for People bus.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Larson of Toppenish and Ronald Larson of Ellensburg; a daughter, Sandy Drinkwater of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home. Private burial services will be in West Hills Cemetery.

Buck Jones, 28, of Wapato died Nov. 29 in Parker. Mr. Jones was born in Toppenish. He was self-employed in maintenance and worked in warehouses.
Survivors include his mother, Carol Domenici of Yakima; three brothers, David Domenici Jr. of Yakima, Burton Dale Jones Jr. of Arizona and Zachary Jones of Dunlap, Calif.; and two sisters, Kimberly Jones of Arizona and Sandra Sanders of California.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Iola Jean Schafer, 79, of Sunnyside died Saturday. She was born in Nyssa, Ore., and had lived in Adrian, Ore., St. Maries, Idaho, Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Grants Pass, Ore., before moving to Grandview in 1945.
Survivors include three brothers, Gilbert Laverne Schafer of Ridgefield, Wash., Benjamin LeRoy Schafer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sherman Schafer of Sunnyside; and one sister, Lorene Hicks of Seattle.
Private family burial will be in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.

Vera L. Prante, 84, of Gleed died Saturday in Yakima. Mrs. Prante was born in Hood River, Ore. She worked at the Parkdale warehouse, Hood River Cannery and laundries in both Hood River and Portland.

Horace Delbert Frederiksen, 85, of Yakima died Sunday at home. Mr. Frederiksen was born in Kilgore, Idaho, and served in the Army. He worked as a rancher and research assistant for the United States Sheep Experiment near Dubois, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Frederiksen of Yakima; three daughters, Allene Frederiksen of Moscow, Idaho, Danette Frederiksen of Pocatello, Idaho, and Valeri Steigerwald of Medical Lake, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Linda Smith of Yakima and Laura Robins of Blaine, Wash.; two brothers, Howard Frederiksen of Kilgore, Idaho, and Kenneth Frederiksen of Nampa, Idaho; two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in the summertime in Clark County, Idaho, and in Yakima. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Ladislado Avila, 22, of Toppenish died Sunday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Avila was born in Los Angeles and also lived in Phoenix before returning to Toppenish. He worked for Schuck's Auto Supply in Yakima for the past four years as a temporary manager on the weekends and at C. Speck Motor Co. for the last year as an automotive technician.
Survivors include his parents, Manuel and Manuela Avila of Toppenish; five brothers and sisters, Bernabe Avila, Jose Avila, Angelica Avila, Marisol Avila and Cindy Avila, all of Toppenish; five half-brothers and sisters, Hector Avila, Manuel Avila Jr., Gerardo Avila and Norma Avila, all of San Diego, Calif., and Maria Ascension Avila of Toppenish; grandparents, Rogelia Barajas of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Bernabe Avila and Bartola Gonzalez of Zacatecas, Mexico.

Edith V. Birdsall, 97, of Sunnyside and formerly of Grandview, died Saturday at Hillcrest Manor. Mrs. Birdsall was born in Duboise, Idaho.

William "Bill" Parker, 80, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mr. Parker was born in Yakima. He started Pace Alternative School, was principal of Wapato Junior High and superintendent of Mt. Adams School District.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Parker; six children, William "Nip" Parker of Ellensburg, Wayne "Tuck" Parker of Yakima, Kim Parker of Harrah, Marion Espinoza of White Swan, Robin Sandino of Kamiah, Idaho, and Kirk Parker of Cle Elum; a brother, Platt Parker; a sister, Florence Armstrong; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
