Ruby G. Maidment, 81, of Yakima died Friday at Willow Springs Care Center. Mrs. Maidment was born in Washington, Iowa, and moved to Yakima in 1967.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Cooney and Leesa Lantis, both of Yakima, and Carol Jones of Boardman, Ore.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private services are planned at a later date. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Shawn L. Batten

Shawn LaVern Batten, 36, of Yakima died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Batten was born in Toppenish. He worked six years as a driver for Yakima Medical Supply.

Survivors include two daughters, Tori Batten and Jada Harding of Yakima; his parents, Rosebud Kehrer and Eugene Batten, both of Wapato; and three brothers, Shane Batten and Skyler Biss of Wapato and David Kehrer of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

MaryAnne J. Grace

MaryAnne J. Grace, 68, of Union Gap died Monday at Parkside Nursing Care Center. Mrs. Grace was born in Strasburg, N.D.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Grace of Union Gap; two daughters, Joyce Morgan and Jeanette Johnson; a son, Joseph Bossert, all of Yakima; two brothers, Gerald Wangler of Longview, Wash., and Stephen Wangler of Yakima; a sister, Angeline Walker of Yakima; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Formal services will be announced at a later date.

Charles R. Gwinn

Charles Robert Gwinn (Nay-Tah-Be-Tung), 79, of Toppenish died Tuesday in Yakima. Mr. Gwinn was born in International Falls, Minn., and served in the Army during the Korean War. He moved to Yakima in 1955. He worked as a police officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later as a truck driver for various trucking companies until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Gwinn of Toppenish; two sons, Kenneth Gwinn of Toppenish and Bobby Wallace of California; six daughters, Sandy Ohms and Shirley Alvarado of Wapato, Elizabeth Gwinn, Sally Wilson and Melissa Castilleja of Harrah and Sandy Barros of Florida; a sister, Caroline Mokeac of Cass Lake, Minn.; 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Overnight wake will begin at 8 a.m. Friday at the Toppenish Community Center. They will depart from there at 8 a.m. Saturday and go to Merritt Funeral Home for the funeral at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Reservation Community Memorial Park.

William E. Plughoff

William E. Plughoff, 68, of Yakima died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Plughoff was born in Burns, Ore. He worked in car sales.

Survivors include his mother, Grace Ann Plughoff; his wife, Darlene Plughoff; three sons, Bill Plughoff, John Plughoff and Shawn Plughoff, all of Yakima; a daughter, Tammy Winter of Selah; a brother, Paul Plughoff of Yakima; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at 802 N. 40th Ave., No. 51 (Carriage Hill Mobile Estates). Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Avis L. Shafer

Avis Lyndell Shafer, 95, of Union Gap died Tuesday at Parkside Nursing Care Center. Mrs. Shafer was born in Barada, Neb. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Shafer of Union Gap, Kenneth Shafer and Stanley Shafer of Yakima; a daughter, Linda Dosch of Selah; a sister, Merna Kirkendall of Fall City, Neb.; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Alex A. Estrada

Alex A. Estrada, 88, of Boardman, Ore., died Wednesday at home. Mr. Estrada was born in New Mexico and served in the Army during World War II. The Estrada family lived in Wapato before moving to Yakima. In 1970, the family moved to Biggs, Ore. He worked as a foreman for Union Pacific of Oregon.

Survivors include his wife, Carmen Gutierrez Estrada of Boardman; four daughters, Sally Rhemrev of Boardman, Elvira Cervantes of Hermiston, Ore., Clementine Palmer of Goldendale and Rosemary Martinez of Yakima; two sons, Silvester Estrada of Wapato and Alex Estrada of Redmond, Ore.; a brother, Alfonso Roa of Yakima; 32 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday at Merritt Funeral Home.

Higinio Barraza

Higinio Barraza, 92, of Sunnyside died Tuesday at home. Mr. Barraza was born in Guanajuato, Mexico. He was a farm laborer and worked in agriculture.

Survivors include his niece and nephew, Adelina Reyes and Manuel Socorro, both of Sunnyside.

Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, with the rosary being recited at 6 p.m., at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Burial will be in the Linsey Strathmoore Public Cemetery in Linsey, Calif.

Alice L. Becker

Alice Lavaun Becker, 79, of Sunnyside died Monday in Toppenish.

Mrs. Becker was born in Denton, Texas, and moved to Sunnyside in 1938.

Survivors include a son, Richard Kent Becker of Sunnyside; a daughter, Barbara Fanning of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Sunnyside.

Lela R. Enbody

Lela Rae Enbody, 76, of Selah died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Enbody was born in Centralia, Wash., and moved to the Selah area in 1969. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Enbody of Selah; six children, Linda Matta and Carol Blaine of Yakima, Debbie McKagan of Seattle, Donna Roderick of Selah, Jamie Kinion of Everett, Wash., and Richard Enbody of Salt Lake City; a sister, Barbara Bundy of Elma, Wash.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Frances L. Louthan

Frances L. Louthan, 98, of Yakima died Wednesday at Providence Joseph Mother Care Center in Olympia.

Ms. Louthan was born in Guthrie, Okla. She was an office manager and worked for various Ford dealerships.

Survivors include five great-nieces and nephews, 12 great-great-nieces and nephews and 11 great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Those attending should meet at the cemetery.

Charles Martinez

Charles Martinez, 42, of Wapato died Tuesday.

Mr. Martinez was born in Seattle and raised in White Swan. He moved to California and was a heavy equipment operator. He moved back to the Yakima Valley in 2007 and worked for the Yakama Nation Roads Department in the same capacity.

Survivors include his companion, Laura Jack of Wapato; three sons, Jory Shinpaugh of New York, Freedom Martinez and Gray Eagle Camacho-Martinez of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; two daughters, Tatiana Jack of Wapato and Zamora Martinez of South Lake Tahoe; his parents, Charles Martinez of White Swan and Jane Rodriguez of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers, Jacob Hawes of Salem, Ore., and Leo Rodriguez of Lincoln; four sisters, Dolores Martinez and Maria Martinez of White Swan, Sandra Martinez of Toppenish and Marcella Tish-Martinez of Warm Springs, Ore.; and one grandchild.

The funeral will begin at 7 a.m. today at the Toppenish Creek Longhouse and they will also conclude there. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home.

Ruby G. Kurbitz

Ruby Getsch Kurbitz, 94, of Boise, Idaho, died Wednesday at Life Care Center Treasure Valley.

Mrs. Kurbitz was born in Yakima. She was a registered nurse for more than 30 years, spending a large part of her career working at the American Red Cross Blood Bank. She also worked at Yakima Valley Convalescent Home.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Harris of Seattle, Pat Burleigh of Boise and Ruthanne Vazquez of Spokane; a brother, Rogers Miles of Selah; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Joyce M. Van Horn

Joyce M. Van Horn, 79, of Yakima, died Saturday at Parkside Nursing Care Center in Union Gap.

She was born in Falbrook, Calif., and was a cook at various restaurants in the Yakima Valley.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Van Horn of Yakima and Steve Van Horn of Selah; a sister, Billie Michaud of Colfax, Calif.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services are pending. Arrangements are by Keith & Keith Funeral Home.

Anna M. Faith

Anna Marie Faith, 88, of Yakima, died Friday at Yakima Regional Medical & Cardiac Center.

Mrs. Faith was born in Strasburg, N.D. She was a farmer before moving to Yakima in 1964.

Survivors include her husband, John; a daughter, Caroline Wood of Yakima; two sons, Victor and Wayne Faith, both of Yakima; two sisters, Helen Vetter of Bismarck, N.D., and Margaret Feist of Rapid City, S.D.; three brothers, Pius Getz of Bismarck, Eugene Getz of Strasburg and Tony Getz of Sloan, Iowa; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter;

Visiting will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel, with a rosary service there at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.

John R. Dugan

John "Jack" Richard Dugan, 68, died Wednesday in his Ellensburg home.

A celebration of his life will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in at the Central Washington University Student Union Building ballroom. Arrangements are by Steward & Williams Tribute Center in Ellensburg.

Louise Cooper

Louise Cooper, 87, of Yakima died Sunday. She was born in Louisville, Ky. She worked as a nurse’s aide.

Survivors include a son, Mark Cooper of Yakima; three daughters, Louise Cooper and Leanne McDaniel, both of Yakima, and Marvaletta Estrada of Seattle; two sisters, Pete Berdzinski and Edith Berdzinski, both of Gary, Ind.; and 19 grandchildren.

There will be no services at Mrs. Cooper’s request. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.

Patty J. Kloat

Patty J. Kloat, 76, of Selah died Monday. She was born in Sunnyside. She worked as a real estate agent and broker and as an accountant/bookkeeper.

Survivors include her husband, Arland Kloat of Selah.

There will be no services at Mrs. Kloat’s request. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.

Patsy Fleck

Patsy Jo Anne Fleck, 71, of Union Gap died Friday at Willow Springs Care in Yakima. She was born in Park City, Utah. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two children, Jerome Jay Fleck of Yakima and Laura L. Fleck of Strongsville, Ohio; four siblings, Dean Sweatfield and Doris Lopez, both of Salt Lake City, Elaine Savage of San Mateo, Calif., and Kenny Sweatfield of Wood Cross, Utah; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be in the spring in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Corrine Elwell

Corrine Elwell, 52, of Toppenish died Saturday. She was born in Toppenish and raised in the Yakima Valley. She worked in nursing homes, at the White Swan Trading Post and with the Census Bureau. She was an enrolled member of the Colville Confederated Tribe.

Survivors include two children, Vera Salazar and Douglas Yallup, both of Wapato; two brothers, Donald Elwell of Brownstown and Russell Elwell of Toppenish; three sisters, Addie Wyena and Shirley Elwell, both of Priest Rapids, and Sonia Peters of Toppenish; and three grandchildren.

Dressing services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Toppenish Longhouse with overnight services following. The funeral will take place at sunrise Wednesday at the longhouse with interment to follow in the Umtuch-Logie Cemetery. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home.

Leo E. Luther

Leo Edward Luther, 90, of Sunnyside died Saturday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from burn injuries he received in an accident at his country home in Bickleton. He was born in Cedar County, Mo. He farmed in Missouri and ran a trucking business in Washington.

Survivors include 13 children, Alan Luther and Jeanetta Knopp, both of Yakima, Jerry Luther of Bickleton, the Rev. David Daniel Luther of Ketchikan, Alaska, Susan Lockbeam of Selah, Kevin Luther, Cindy Luther, Kathy Luther, Mark Luther, Dean Luther and Dale Luther, all of Sunnyside, Martin Luther of Prosser and Leon Luther of Whitstran; a sister, Vera Barber of Nevada; 50 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, with burial to follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery.

Glennis J. Porter

Glennis Jean Porter, 66, of Parker, Colo., died Oct. 27. She was born in Winsor, Colo., and raised in the Lower Valley. She later lived in Yakima and Auburn, Wash. She was a beautician and worked in the dental field.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Porter of Parker; two daughters, Vanessa Porter-Jager of Tacoma and Pamelynn Porter-Queen of Arlington, Wash.; a son, Wayne Porter II of Monroe, Wash.; a sister, Mildred Devoe of Selah; and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church followed by interment at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
