Janet Mary Johnson, 89, died Friday in North Dakota. Mrs. Johnson was born in Montana and lived in many places but spent much of her life in Yakima. She operated an apartment building and day care with her husband.
Survivors include three sons, John Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Dale Johnson; a daughter, Verna Johnson; and 13 grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at West Hills Memorial Park.

Russell Adolf, 62, of Yakima died Saturday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mr. Adolf was born in Bismarck, N.D., and lived in Yakima since 1980. He was employed by Bi-Mart from 1982 until 1998, when he became an independent distributor for Mission Foods.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Adolf of Yakima; two sons, Evan Adolf of Snohomish, Wash., and Aaron Adolf of Mill Creek, Wash.; a daughter, Tonia Weatherwax of Graham, Wash.; three brothers, Ken Adolf of Salt Lake City, Tim Adolf of Bismarck, N.D., and Curt Adolf of Underwood, N.D.; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Tahoma Cemetery. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Donna Mary Cordz, 52, of Yakima died Sunday at home. Mrs. Cordz was born and raised in Yakima. She worked for Senior Life Home Care Services for 11 years.
Survivors include her mother, Charlene Septka (Pfeifer) of Yakima; a sister, Eileen Hansen of Spokane; a daughter, Rachel Cordz of San Diego; and a son, David Cordz, Jr., of Eugene, Ore.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall at 2506 W. Mead Ave. A luncheon will follow at Keith and Keith Terrace Heights Reception Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Drive.

Ruby M. Couch, 101, of Toppenish died Saturday at home. She was born in Red Hill, Ore., and moved to Toppenish in 1939. She owned and operated Bill's Cafe from 1940 to 1956 and later worked for the Toppenish School District as a cook at Lincoln Elementary School, retiring in the 1970s.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Morris of Lebanon, Ore., and James Morris of Toppenish; a daughter, Mary Winberry of Emmett, Idaho; and 13 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Zillah City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home.
Lois E. Hubbard

Lois Edith Hubbard, 90, of White Swan died Saturday. Mrs. Hubbard was born in Pacetown, Mo., and moved to the Yakima Valley in the 1940s. She worked as a homemaker and as a state foster parent for 47 children in the Lower Yakima Valley.
Survivors include two sons, Jim K. Hubbard of White Swan and Mike Hubbard of Auburn, Wash.; a sister, Wilma Bryant of White Salmon; 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wilbur Memorial Methodist Church in White Swan. Arrangements are by Merritt Funeral Home.

Judith Diane Cervantes, 63, of Mabton died Friday in Sunnyside. Mrs. Cervantes was born in Port Angeles, Wash. She worked as a beautician for five years, as a manager at Harvey's in Lake Tahoe, Calif., for 10 years and later worked as administrative help at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, retiring in 2000.
Survivors include her husband, Eduardo Cervantes of Mabton; two sons, Terre Shove of Spokane and Scott Koch of Avondale, Ariz.; a daughter, Melanie T. Crown of Grandview; a sister, Carmen Streber of Grandview; and three grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, also at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.

Emily V. Harris, 95, of Ellensburg died Sunday at Royal Vista Care Center. Mrs. Harris was born in Oakland, Calif., and moved to Ellensburg in August 1977. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Darla M. Turner of Royal City, Wash.; two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial observation will be private with burial in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are by Affordable Funeral Care of Ellensburg.

Charlene Kay Kinney, 61, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Kinney was born in Yakima. She worked for AT&T for a time and later worked in the classified sales department at the Yakima Herald-Republic for 15 years before ill health forced her to retire.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Kinney of Yakima; a daughter, Shelley Randall of Yakima; two sisters, Edeen Baker of Yakima and Lynn Kelly of Zillah; a brother, Roy James Fann Sr. of Yakima; her companion, Edward A. Day of Yakima; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel.

Edwardo Rodriguez, 82, of Sunnyside died Saturday at Hillcrest Manor. Mr. Rodriguez was born in Premont, Texas, and served in the Army. He was a farm laborer in Sunnyside for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Gomez of Sunnyside; three sons, Ross Rodriguez of Grandview, John Rodriguez of Sunnyside and Wally Rodriguez of Spokane; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m., at Valley Hills Funeral Home of Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.

James Lee Briggs, 66, of Yakima died Thursday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mr. Briggs was born in Jonesboro, La., and had been a resident of Yakima for 43 years. He worked as a bartender and agricultural laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Briggs of Yakima; four sons, Bobby, Jerome, James L. Jr. and James Andrew Briggs, all of Yakima; five daughters, Virginia Briggs, Barbara Anderson, Gloria Johnson and Jessica Briggs, all of Yakima, and Tanya Wason of Texas; six brothers, Willie Lee James of Seattle, Johny James of Texas, Frank James and Freddie James of Walla Walla, Willie Thomas James and Milton James of Yakima; a sister, Felicia James of Milwaukee, Wis.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Katherine Kwak, 82, of Terrace Heights died Sunday at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. Mrs. Kwak was born in Wapato. She worked for the War Department in Seattle before returning to Wapato and working in the Wapato Superintendent's office. She also worked at Freddie's Restaurant in Othello, the United States Bureau of Reclamation at Royal Camp and later owned and operated a grocery/grill at Royal Camp.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Kwak of Yakima; three children, John David Kwak of Richland, Debra Kroon of Yakima and Case Kwak of East Wenatchee; two sisters, Betty Chambers and Gerri Geffe of Yakima; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Melissa (Meza) Plunkett, 34, of Yakima died Friday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Plunkett was born in Yakima and lived there most of her life. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her parents, Jerry and Debra Plunkett; a brother, Michael Plunkett; a sister, Crystal Plunkett; her husband, Ramon Meza; four children, Jessica Plunkett, Jade Honaker, Emilio Meza and Jerry Meza, all of Yakima; and three grandchildren.

Aubrey L. Newman, 80, of Yakima died Monday at home. Mr. Newman was born in Springfield, Mo. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Department of Transportation.

Cora McDermott, 79, of Union Gap died Monday in Yakima. Mrs. McDermott was born in Alimosa, Colo.

Iola Marie Davenport, 82, of Selah died Tuesday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Davenport was born in Cashmere, Wash. She was a homemaker and helped run the Jack Pot Service Station in Wapato.
Survivors include three children, Herman Davenport of Florida, Joyce Furman of Wapato and Don Davenport of Selah; and four grandchildren.

Evelyn L. Hermann, 86, of Yakima died Monday. Ms. Hermann was born in Lima, Ohio, and was well known internationally as a Suzuki Violin Pedagogue. She moved to Wapato in 1950 and worked as a instrumental music teacher and later moved to Yakima to teach. After living in Oregon, she returned to Yakima and started Yakima Valley Junior Symphony, later named Youth Symphony. She then worked 40 years with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. In 1966, she moved to Dallas to teach at the Southern Methodist University. She was on the starting board of the Suzuki Association of Americans and in 1973 she started the Suzuki Institute of Dallas. She then helped start the International Suzuki Association, serving as secretary of the board, and retired her position as CEO in 2004. She also taught the Suzuki method in China, Japan, Korea and Australia.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. 48th Ave., Yakima. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home.

Glenn Claxton Bateman, 83, of Union Gap died Wednesday at home. Mr. Bateman was born in Milan, Tenn., and moved to Washington in 1945. He worked for the railroad and then for National Grocery for 21 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Union Gap City Council and helped develop the Union Gap Youth Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Engel of Spokane, Rose Longmire of Bellingham, Wash., and Glenna Gibson of Dufur, Ore.; a son, Lowell Stuebe of Hillsboro, Ore.; a sister, Margaret Mayer of San Diego; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Paul D. Nystrom

Paul Dean Nystrom, 79, of Yakima died Tuesday at home. Mr. Nystrom was born in Seattle and served in the Marines. He moved to the Yakima Valley in 1931. He worked for West Valley School District as a bus driver and then worked for Clasen Fruit, driving truck and working on ranches, retiring in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nystrom of Yakima; three children, Ron Nystrom of Sargent, Texas, Debbie Prine and Doug Nystrom of Yakima; four stepchildren, Carol Horne and Yvonne Inman of Kennewick, Ed Inman of Seattle and Diane Inman of Mukilteo, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
