If roses grow in heaven, Lord
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my mother's arms
And tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it everyday,
But there is an ache within my heart
That will never go away.

She graduated from Mission High School in Ronan in 1944 where she enjoyed dancing the Jitter Bug and cheerleading. The big band music of Glenn Miller was a favorite of hers.

She moved to Washington State after high school. Fillis worked for the Yakima Fruit Growers Association, the Yakima School District and then for 30 years as a secretary and later as a personnel specialist at Boise Cascade, retiring in 1986. Fillis had five children: Gary, Barbara, Gloria, Terrie and Cyndi. She was well read and instilled a love of reading in all her children. It was through her efforts, support and values that they have all been able to achieve success in their own lives, both socially and personally. Fillis always put her children first in her life and spent many happy, loving hours at family gatherings with her close relatives and friends. One of Mom's joys in life was planning family reunions every few years so distant relatives remained close over the years.

She married Lyle Green in 1971 and lived happily with Lyle until he passed away in 1990. She missed Lyle everyday until she could finally join him. She traveled with Lyle to the Hawaiian Islands and in their RV throughout Montana, Washington and Oregon. They both were faithful Christians within the fellowship of the First Presbyterian Church in Yakima. Fillis was a longtime volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church working with the Interfaith Coalition providing assistance to the under privileged. Following Lyle's death in 1990, she moved to Vancouver, WA to be near her daughters who lived in the Portland, OR area. She enjoyed living in a golfing retirement community there as well as volunteering as a teaching assistant for Head Start. She later relocated to a retirement community in Kennewick, WA, to be near another daughter.

Fillis valued her fierce independence in thought and action; honesty to one's self and others; and self-determination through hard work and doing what was right. She committed all her strength, courage, and wisdom to the loving care and upbringing of her children. For those who had the good fortune to be touched by her unconditional love and friendship, she leaves a legacy of gratitude, quiet wisdom, and fond remembrance. We can all learn from her example.

With all our love and empathy, as her family and friends, we share the sorrow of her passing and share the joy she gave to our lives. Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home is in charge of services. Memorials can be made to the Tri Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, 2108 W Entiat Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336.
