Phyllis Ferguson, age 82, a longtime Tacoma resident, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2001. Born in Malden, WA, January 28, 1919, she graduated from Lincoln High School and was in the Tavern business for many years. Surviving family includes her son Rick Mason and wife Barbara of Fircrest; 4 grandchildren, Debbie Monnett (Ted), Sherrie Orse (Pat), Jim Stafford (Cindy), Mark Mason (Patty); and 7 great-grandchildren. Raymond Lee Sanders, Jr., 41, of Seattle, died August 26, 2001. He was born on May 5, 1960 in Kennewick, WA. Survivors include his children Chet Cutler, Raymond L. Sanders III, John A. Sanders, Reese P. Sanders, James D. Sanders and Amber Lea Sanders, all of Vancouver, WA; mother Carrol J. Sanders-Hanson of Camas; brothers Michael Andrews of Gunnison, CO, Steven Sanders of Edwards, CO; sisters Angel Sanders- Carlson (Todd) of Camas, Toni-jo Sanders of Camas, Danita Lott of Everett, Kuuipo Pahukoa-Montoya (Oscar) of Vancouver; uncle Walter Webb (Judy) of Camas; aunts Ruth Webb of Seattle, Helen Klinger (Michael) of Spanaway, Rosemary Mattson (Ted) of Montrose, CO and Florene Andrews (Larry) of Kennewick; niece Lorena Lott of Camas; and one granddaughter. Shad Kelly Phillips
Shad was born December 25, 1970. He passed away August 26, 2001. He was a son, brother and special person. Shad will be missed by those who love him, his mother Kathleen Phillips and James Davis, a family friend; his father T.R. Phillips; his brothers Shawn Warner, Brent Warner and their families; also his aunt and uncle, Sue and Frank Rutt and family; his grandma Mildred Stebbins; and his stepdaughter Megan and granddaughter Kyla. He was a successful journeyman electrician who was well liked at work. He was pursuing real estate investment on the side. A memorial service will be held at Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer, Puyallup, Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at 3:00 pm.

Shinobu Evans, born January 17, 1934 in Okinawa, Japan, passed away August 24, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Shinobu leaves to mourn her devoted and loving husband of 33 years, Conrad I. Evans Sr., serving children Ronald James Neal, Brenda Smith, Conrad I. Evans Jr., Kim Holloman, and one daughter in Japan; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Anita Marie Browne
Anita Marie Browne was born December 30, 1952 in Tacoma and passed away in Tacoma on August 30, 2001. She was the beloved daughter of Francis and Helyn Browne and is also survived by her brother Francis “Skip” Browne, sister Nancy Shonborg, son Aaron Maruca, niece Christina Shonborg, aunt Doris Barkley and many cousins and other relatives. Anita attended St. Leo’s School and graduated from Tacoma Community College. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 4, 2001, 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. Paul J. Floyd
At 48 years of age, Paul J. Floyd passed away suddenly in a tragic automobile accident on Monday, August 27, 2001. He was born March 13, 1953 in Puyallup to Jerry and May Floyd. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Floyd. Paul will be missed by those who loved him, his mother May Floyd and her companion Howard Mondress, his brother Joseph and his wife Marianne, nephews Benjamin and Timothy, niece Elizabeth, sister Becky Baumgartner and her husband Tracy, nephew Samuel, son Brent Floyd-Gaspaire, daughter Betty C. Belvedere, and a life long friend, Kelly. Paul graduated from Franklin Pierce High School and went on to serve proudly in the US Army. Paul was a son, a brother, a father, and a gifted artist, sign painter, and a friend to many. Paul was a simple man who lived simply, he loved to paint, wood carve, sculpt, write short stories, hunt and fish. He would do anything for anyone in need and would literally give the shirt off his back. Donald Orion Turney
Born on July 8, 1925 in Ontonagon, MI. passed away peacefully on August 30, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mavis; his three children, Donna (Tom) Jones, Linda (Mel) Boyd and Jerry (Jo) Turney; his seven grandchildren and their spouses, eight great-grandchildren, and his sister Maxine (James) Wood. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, 6202 S. Tyler St., Tacoma, WA, 472-7105. Potluck reception following at the church. Born on Tuesday, July 11, 1944 in Elyria, Ohio to Edgar and Florence (Roadhammel) Martin. Died on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 in Seattle. Mrs. Lonyo was a 1962 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School. She enjoyed canning, cooking, family gatherings and Mariners baseball. Wife of the late Jack C. Lonyo, Sr. Mother of Scott (Cindy) Lonyo, Dan Lonyo, David Lonyo of the Tacoma and Graham area, Teri Garret of Michigan, and the late Jack C. Lonyo, Jr. Sister of Ted Martin, Tom Martin, Marlyn Roof, Rita Meanor, all of the Cleveland, Ohio area, and the late John Martin. Della (Del) Myers
Del, 62, died peacefully the morning of August 29, 2001 in Puyallup, WA. She will be missed by her daughter Kim (Jerry) Graham and her granddaughters Taren, Meggie and Marlee, who were very special to her. She is also survived by her brother Larry (Connie) Pentecost and nephew Jay. She was preceded in death by her parents L.J. and Violet Pentecost. She worked for U.S. West for 37 years, retiring in 1993. At her request, no services will be held. The family would like to thank all the great staff and residents at Life Care Center in Puyallup for their care and friendships.

Gilbert R. Batchman was born January 21, 1931. Gil (as he was called), passed away August 29, 2001 at Madigan Army Hospital. He was the loving husband of Vorece Batchman, and the father of Felicia Batchman Miller. Gil served his country for 24 years before retiring. He was a small businessman. Thelma G. Roddy
Thelma G. Roddy, 86, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, August 29, 2001. Thelma was born November 21, 1914 at the Gray Ranch in Plains, MT. She married Joseph Patrick Roddy in Pocatello, ID in 1934. They endured much, grew together, and raised three wonderful children. Thelma was known for her hospitality, no one was ever turned away, a can do ability, she was natural at everything, and most of all for the love she showed her grandchildren, her life revolved around them. She is preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Ellen Gray; brother Glen; sister Patsy Schmiedeskamp; and infant James. She is survived by brother, Percy (Margie) Gray, Independence, KY; daughters, Mary Flannery, Tucson, AZ; Monica (George) Greer and Sister Joan Roddy, OSF, Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Randolph (Charlene), Natalie, Jonathan Greer; Joan (Thomas Joseph) Lines; Deirdre, Brendan Flannery and great-grandson Dylan Lines. A memorial service will be held on Monday, 9/3, at St. Ann’s Convent.
