Betty B. Brown
Betty B. Brown passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family, August 30, 2001, due to cancer. She was born Sept. 24, 1925 on the family farm in Convis County, Michigan. She was one of six children, Marilyn, Norma, William, Paul and Wayne, born to Maurice and Doris Baver. She was especially proud of her forbearers John and Priscilla Alden and Abigail Adams. She moved to Tacoma and lived with her aunt and uncle, Dr. Homer and Arlene Clay, while she attended the University of Puget Sound. She transferred to Michigan State University and graduated in 1947. After graduation she married William Lewis Brown, Jr. on September 24, 1947, and helped him complete his studies at the University of Washington Law School. Upon his graduation the couple returned to Tacoma. They had two daughters, Terry Lee Stein of Salem, OR and Betsy Ann Dunne of Melbourne, Australia. She was a past member of the Lawyers Wives Club, the Tacoma Junior League, the Tacoma Lawn and Tennis Club, and an active member of the Oakbrook Golf and Country Club. She held offices and was active in all of these associations. She was a founding member of the Tacoma Cotillion. She will be sorely missed by her husband, Judge William Lewis Brown, Jr. (retired); her two daughters, Terry and Betsy; her son-in- law, Dr. Kevin Dunne; and her four grandchildren, Neal William Stein, Lauren Elizabeth, Matthew William and Kieran Patrick Dunne. Over the years she had become an avid bridge player and was especially enjoyed by the many friends she made at the bridge table. She was attended in her final days by Hospice of Tacoma. The family extends their sincere thanks for their care and compassion during that time. The family suggests memorials be sent to Multicare Health Foundation, Helping Hands, PO Box 5296, Tacoma, WA 98415- 0296, so that their good works can be carried on. At Betty’s request ,no services will be held. She will remain in the hearts of her family and all that knew her for all time.

Eunice H. Boysen
Born 4/18/11 in Napa, Calif., Eunice moved to Tacoma in the late 80’s to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by her husband Niels. She had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special thank you to the staff at the Weatherly Inn for their kindness and caring. No services at her request.

William Andrew Dudley

Formerly of Sumner, a lifetime member of the Elks and a lover of good dance music. Bill is survived by his daughter Margaret and husband Carl, sons James and Michael, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Interment will be at Woodlawn Abbey in Puyallup.

Gail Janet Steckler
Gail passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2001, at the age of 51. She was born to Virgil and Yvonne Gunnarson on March 9, 1951. She is survived by her husband Peter Allen Steckler, son Eric Thomas, daughter Jessie Thomas, brother Mark Gunnarson, nephews Kasey and Adam Gunnarson, niece Courtney Gunnarson, and many other family and friends. Gail grew up and lived in Midland and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1968. Gail will forever be with us in love and spirit. Memorial services will be Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3:00 PM at Old Saint Peters Church. Fir Lane Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gerry MacCoy
Gerald Bates MacCoy, age 83, went home to be with our Lord on Sept. 04, 2001. He was born in Saskatoon, Sask., Canada on Feb. 21, 1918 to Irving F. MacCoy and Hannah L. Hawkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Roma; sons Wayne (Sherri) and Craig; daughters Maureen (Michael) and Lorraine (Michael); grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan, Taylor, Noah, Jennifer, Rachel and Isaac. He will be deeply missed and in our hearts always. Gerry graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in mechanical engineering, followed by 3-1/2 years service in the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII. Gerry retired after 32 years with Dow Chemical Canada and Dow Chemical Pacific. Prior to retirement he held the positions of President of Dow Chemical Korea and Managing Director of Dow Chemical, S.E. Asia. He was never happier than when he was on the tennis court, spending time with his family and traveling. Private services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to any local branch of the Salvation Army, or Little Red School House (a special place for children with developmental difficulties), PO Box 992, Lynnwood, WA 98046.

Jannie M. Santino-Emtman
Jannie M. Santino-Emtman, 53, passed away September 5, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully at home in the care of her loving husband, Geno. Jannie attended Aquinas High School and Clover Park Technical College. She worked for West Coast Grocery since graduation, where she was a well liked and respected manager. Jannie planned, organized and implemented all West Coast social functions. Jannie was preceded in death by parents James and Violet Santino and sister Barbara A. Kornell, in addition to her four-legged children, Donka, Nicky, Buffy and Sammy. Survivors include her husband, Geno Emtman, and their children, John and wife Danielle, Raelynn and husband Mike Wagner, and her brother, James Santino. One of Jannie’s last wishes was to give her love to all her friends, whom she loved and who loved her in return. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 8, 2001, 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Entombment at Calvary Cloisters. Arrangements by Gaffney Cassedy Allen and Buckley King.

KENNETH F. JOHNSON
Kenneth F. Johnson, 75, died September 4, 2001. He was born February 18, 1926 in Tacoma. Ken attended Roy High School and the University of Puget Sound. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he worked at Inter-City Auto Freight and Fuel Oil Service Company. He married the former Cleva Berland in 1951. In 1963 he became a partner in Boston’s, Inc. and later became President of that company until his retirement in 1995. He was active in community development and county politics. He was respected and admired in the business community for his honesty and integrity and tenacious practices, which led to his own successful business. He was an avid sportsman and was very active in the Tacoma Sportsmen’s Club since 1972, having been elected President of that club three times. He was a race-car driver, a big game hunter, a trap and skeet shooter, a fisherman and a horseman. He was a past president and life member of the Tacoma Young Men’s Business Club, and was past president of the former County Fuel Dealers’ Association. He was a member for many years of Tacoma Active 20-30 International, a member of the BPOE Lodge #174, and former Teamsters Local 313. He was a member and director of several cutting horse associations, which he thoroughly enjoyed his last ten years. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Frederick Johnson and Julia Stangle. His survivors are son Mitchell S. Johnson (Deborah Johnson); daughter Kristine A. Adams (Timothy Adams); four grandchildren, Shelley Adams (Jason Drury), Holly Guerrero (Alex Guerrero), Erik Johnson, Jessica Johnson; five sisters, Katherine Coby, Marjorie Johnson, Doris Adams and Nancy Beyer, all of Tacoma, and Virginia Schwarz of Renton. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at Mountain View Memorial Park in the Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to The American Heart Association, 1101 S. Fawcett, Suite 100, Tacoma, WA 98402. As a generous and loving father and friend, he will be missed by all who knew him.

Red was a WWII vet. He is survived by Martin Cooper (godson) and Sheila Pacete, his dear friend. He was known and loved by many, including the Cooper family and Don Anderson and family. Red will always be loved and missed dearly.

Errol L. VanPevenage Sr.

Born to Orville and Evelyn Van Pevenage in Puyallup Washington, Errol VanPevenage Sr. passed away at his home in Puyallup after a long battle with heart disease. In earlier years, Errol was the proud owner of The Cross-Bow Inn located in Puyallup, as well as the present owner of a historical building, also in Puyallup. He was a member of the Puyallup Eagles, he loved to listen to music, eat good food, but, most of all, to bring a smile to someone’s face. He is survived by four children, daughters Sandra Lee VanPevenage and Laura Marie Haavik, sons Errol Jr. and Leon, all living in this area; three brothers, Jerry of Davenport, WA, Lee and Ronnie, both of Puyallup; 11 grandchildren; special friend Laura Jones, whom the family wishes to thank for her caring friendship to Errol. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of your choice. Viewing on Friday, 3-8 pm, Saturday-Sunday, 12-5 pm. Memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 10th at 2:00 pm at Powers Funeral Home.

Virginia Elsie Davis

Virginia died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 1st in Puyallup, Washington in her home at age 78. She was born to William Arthur Richman and Lottie Florence Boggs in LeRoy, Iowa where she attended LeRoy High School and played on the Girls Championship Basketball Team. She graduated from High School in 1940. She moved to Gresham, Oregon in 1946 with her husband, William Edwin (Ed) Davis, where for several years she worked on a family farm and was a homemaker. She was an active long time member of the Gresham Assembly of God Church. By 1975 she and her husband moved to Hermiston, Oregon to retire and work part-time at Lamb Weston Inc. She was a member of the Stanfield Assembly of God Church until Edwin’s death in 1998. She then moved to live with her oldest son for 3-1/2 years in Puyallup, WA. She was preceded in death by her one husband, one brother and four sisters. She is survived by one brother, Bill Richman, and one sister, Florence Deemer, both residing in Iowa. She is also survived by her sons Ralph (Janet) of Puyallup, Washington, Dennis Davis (Becky) of Pasco, Washington, and daughter Carol Fox (Rick) of Ridgefield, Washington. She leaves behind four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at the New Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home, Evergreen Chapel, 9212 Chambers Creek Road West, Tacoma , Washington 98467, on Sept. 8th, at 2:00 PM. Thomas Wiggins
Tom left us suddenly August 26, 2001 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born in Tacoma, December 10, 1966 to William and Barbara Wiggins. A graduate of Stadium High School, he went on to become an accomplished pressman/printer. He is survived by his parents; four brothers, Mike, John, Dan and Mark; as well as three sisters, Diana Stand, Kathy Parhomski and Linda Weibel. Tom is now with his brother Bill, who also was lost to us too soon. A private family memorial will be held.
