Jennie B. “Jimmie” Held
Jimmie, born December 8, 1913 in Blackville, New Brunswick, Canada to Michael and Ann McCormick, passed away on September 11, 2001 in Centralia, WA. Jimmie moved to Tacoma at the age of six and lived there and on Fox Island for 66 years before moving to Lacey, WA and Chehalis, WA. She married Ted M. Held, November 28, 1931 in Tacoma. They were married for 55 wonderful years until his death in March 1988. She is survived by a son, Ted M. Held Jr. and his wife Darlene, and grandchildren Karen Held of Chehalis and Steven Held and his wife Dawn of Trenton, NJ, and many nieces and nephews in Washington and California. Jimmie created a warm, loving home for her family and friends. The annual family picnic at Fox Island, with people arriving by car and boat, was an event that brought family members together to share recipes and memories. She was an avid baseball fan and loved going to Reno. A celebration of Jimmie’s life will be held Saturday, September 29, 2001, beginning at 1:00 PM at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Chehalis.

Lena L. Clark
Lena L. Clark born Nov. 21, 1908 in Longton, KS passed away peacefully September 12, 2001 in Centralia. She attended Tacoma Bible Presbyterian Church. She loved gardening and painting pictures. Her family was the most important thing to her. Survivors include sons, Willard L. Carlson, Alvin C. Carlson, Dr. Howard J. Carlson, Dr. Raymond P. Carlson and Stanley A. Westrom; daughters, Betty Williams, Mary Bryant, Bonnie Miller and Sylvia Barron; and many grand and great- grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 17 from 4-8 p.m. at Tuell- McKee Funeral Home, 2215 Sixth Ave., 272-1414. Funeral services will follow Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at New Tacoma Cemetery.

Clyde R. Argo
Major U.S. Army (Ret.)
Our beloved Clyde left us on September 14, 2001 after several years of heart problems and other ailments. He died at home where he wanted to be and was in the loving care of his wife Marion and daughter Claudia. Clyde was born in Fairmount, IL on September 20, 1911. He joined the National Guard in 1936, went on active duty in 1940 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1941. Clyde spent 26 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a Major. During his military career, Clyde met Marion Ihl on April 30, 1945 at the Office of the U.S. Military Government in Friedberg, Germany. Clyde was the Public Safety Officer and later became the Military Government Officer of the German counties of Buedingen and subsequently of Lauterbach. He married Marion in 1948, after he brought her to the United States as a war bride. After retirement from the army, Clyde obtained a teaching certificate from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, WA, and taught in the Bethel School District for 10 years. Still healthy and ambitious, he worked with Marion in her CPA office which she had opened in 1968. In 1983 his health started to fail. Clyde had open heart surgery which ended his working life but he and Marion enjoyed many cruises and trips together. He also did a substantial amount of volunteer work. Clyde was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the World and served as Commander of the Tacoma Chapter. He served as President of the Tacoma Chapters of Kiwanis Club and the American Legion and was also a member of the Retired Officers Association. Clyde was a proud, faithful American with great love for his country. He and Marion had a wonderful life together and she will love and miss him for the rest of her life. Clyde is also survived by his daughter Claudia and son John and their spouses, son-in-law, John Mitchum whose wife Barbara predeceased Clyde, Marion’s sister Lorly and husband Wolfgang, numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren and many friends. Clyde’s family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gail Strait, Dr. James F. Early, and Dr. Ulrich Birlenbach and their staffs and to caregivers Cathrine Rovetta, Lorraine Knox, and Kathleen Belding . Services for Clyde Argo will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 10:00 AM in the Mt View Celebration of Life Building, Aspen Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Schon of Lakewood; Linda MacKay of Laramie, WY; Jenny Schon of Olympia; brother Corbin Castleman, sister Elizabeth Shurr, both of Tacoma; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. James H. McGinnis, Jr.
Age 32, of Graham, passed away at home Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Deanna McGinnis; 2 sisters, Dee Dee McGinnis, Brenda Chapman; aunt Mickey Cobb; and his special friend, Bambi Sparks. Dolores C. Dobler
Dolores Dobler, 81, passed away September 13, 2001 in Tacoma. She was born September 27, 1919 in Aberdeen, SD, and had been a Puyallup resident since 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dobler, and by a son, Harold W. Dobler. Dolores is survived by her daughter, Sherry Kemp (Russell) of Gig Harbor; grandchildren Lori Haworth (Joe) of Puyallup, Cynthia Paul (Mike) of Gig Harbor, Suzanne York (Trent) of Gig Harbor and Jennifer Dobler of Puyallup; 4 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Baily and Skylar Paul, and Jordan Haworth; daughter-in-law Nancy Dobler of Puyallup. Wilfred C. Fyall
Born August 12, 1914 in Merritt, B.C., died September 12, 2001. He served in the Navy in WWII and as a C.P.O. in the Korean War. He retired from Tacoma City Light. He is survived by daughters Carroll Kees and Julie (Ken) Higgins, both of Fox Island; 5 grandchildren, Darren Kees and Megan Kees of Fox Island, Scott Higgins (Rhonda) of Tacoma, Dana Costello (Robert) of Olympia and Stacy Kikendall (Steve) of Juneau, Alaska; and 5 great-grandchildren. KAY LOUISE BOYD “Kay-Bee”
Born June 26, 1960, passed away September 10, 2001.
Kay gave of herself unselfishly, providing an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. She cared. Although she struggled with her own personal pains and torments, she was more than willing to take someone else’s burdens, too. Kay is survived by her husband Christopher, daughters Danielle Olsson-Boyd and Christinna Olsson- Boyd, her parents Clifford and Juanita Miller, and brothers Gene and William Miller. She has joined her infant son Christopher, Christinna’s twin, in heaven. Kay was born in Tacoma, WA. She attended Lincoln High School and later, attended the University of Washington. Kay was good at whatever she set her mind to do. She was a good insurance broker and a terrific mortgage broker. She was a great Mom, an excellent cook, a wonderful wife and a cherished friend. Graveside services will be Monday, September 17, 2001 at 1:00 PM at Fir Lane Memorial Park in Spanaway.

Richard C. (Dick) Armstrong Sr.
Died in Auburn on September 11, 2001. He was 82. Born in Spokane, Washington on April 22, 1919, he moved with his parents, Lewis and Vadda, brother Lewis, Jr. and sister Betty to Auburn in 1922. While growing up in Auburn, he worked in the family restaurant business. During his school years, Dick developed a love for all sports and was #1 on the high school tennis team by his junior year. His love for baseball led him to a semi- pro career with the Auburn Red Sox. He played ball until he was 31 years old. After graduating from Auburn High school in 1936 and attending the University of Washington, he started his own business, opening cafes and taverns in Auburn and Tacoma. Dick was drafted in early 1944 and served in the Navy on a sea going tug, the USS Lark. After the war he returned to his hometown and, in 1949, became partners with Jim Ewing in Equity Realty, Inc. In 1952 Dick turned his energies toward home building and founded Armstrong Construction Co., Inc., “Armstrong Homes” and Armstrong Realty, Inc., and Armstrong Lumber Co., Inc. in 1959. Dick was a pioneer in the building component industry with products today being shipped to a number of states and countries throughout the world. Over the years he employed hundreds of area residents and provided training and opportunities for them, as well as for his children, grandchildren and nephews. He had high standards for both his employees and his products. He continued in later years to be available to his people with advice and encouragement. Dick was an avid golfer, dividing his time between Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA and Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rosalie at their home in Kent; daughter Mickie (Tony) Appolito, Palm Springs; son Dick Jr. (Audry) Armstrong, Tacoma; daughter Gayle (Jerome) Kroke, Auburn; son Jim (Marissa) Armstrong, Kent; stepson Chris (Danielle) McCain, Kent; stepdaughter Pam McCain, Kent. Twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and one granddaughter. Visitation is set for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Price- Helton Funeral Chapel in Auburn. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2001 at White River Presbyterian Church, 526 12th SE, Auburn. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Center, University of Washington Department of Neurology, PO Box 356465, Seattle, WA 98195.
