SCOTT DOUGLAS PEDERSON
Age 46, of Federal Way passed away at his job on September 15, 2001. He was born September 28, 1954 in Huntington Park, CA to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pederson. He had worked for Boeing for 19 years and most recently for an auto dealership in Renton. His passions were his family, friends, fishing, sailing the sound and flying. He is survived by his loving wife Yeonok, son Eric and daughter Erin, parents Eugene and Cheryl; siblings Dennis, Lori and Cindy, grandmother Edyth Soward of California and their families. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 20, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bonney-Watson funeral home in Federal Way. Donations in his name may be made to the Scott D. Pederson memorial fund c/o Dixie Pederson P.O. Box 534, Lakebay, WA 98349.

Dorothy Jenkins
Age 77, passed away on Sept. 1, 2001 on Fox Island, WA. Survivors: daughters, Debbie Mihali, and Beverly Gastelo; son, Christopher Jenkins; brothers, Lowell and Ralph Wicks; 5 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Oakwood Hill Funeral Home, 473-2900. The family would like to thank Hospice for their care and support.

Age 78, of Honolulu, died Sept. 4, 2001. Born in Nara prefecture, Japan. Survived by husband James Mosher; step-daughter, Marie L. Ahre; grandson, Jeff Ray; granddaughters, Teresa Ray and Jo Ann Ray; great-granddaughter, Chrystel Stone; one brother and one sister. Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 at Mountain View Valley Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

William Payne Pfeiffer
Bill Pfeiffer, 74, died September 16, 2001 in Tacoma. He had lived in the Tacoma area for most of his adult life and graduated from Bellarmine Preparatory School in 1946. Bill was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and B.P.O.E. #174. After his retirement from Unisource Paper Company, Bill enjoyed traveling, particularly taking cruises. He is survived by his wife Grace, of 50 years; children: Steve (Elizabeth) Pfeiffer, Doug (Nadine) Pfieffer, Teri (Kurt) Nelson; sisters: Sally (Bob) Myers, Mary Alice (Jay) Busch, Betty Jo (Bill) McConnell, Laurie (Joe) McVoy; brothers: Bob (Carol) Pfeiffer, Tom (Doris) Pfeiffer, George (Devon) Pfeiffer; sister-in- law, Mavis Pfeiffer and six grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 21, 2001, 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 20, 2001, 7:00 p.m. at Bellarmine Aloysius Chapel. The family suggests memorials may be made to Guadalupe House. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by Gaffney Cassedy Allen and Buckley King Funeral Home.

Doris Roselyn (Delong) Wambold
Born August 24th, 1926 to William and Catherine Delong in Williston, North Dakota. Doris passed away Sunday, September 16, 2001 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. She attended Assumption School in Bellingham and Cleveland High School in Seattle. Doris is survived by sons Ronnie, Matt (Michelle) and Mark, and daughters Shawn Olsen, Erin Horton (Buddy), and Mary Church (Hank) as well as by Mimi Wambold, Darla Wambold and several nieces andnephews. Doris had eight grandchildren (Alexis, Clay, Deidre, Dominic, Jessica, Kathryn, Kyle, and Nicolle) and two great-grandchildren (Cameron and Isaac). All will miss “Grandma” very much. Doris leaves special thanks to her dearest friends Anna May Hennis, Midge McClain, Faye Enslow and Win Hoag. She also wanted to express her profound appreciation to Dr. Senecal and his staff and to Maggie Baker. “Mom, your sweet spirit is indelibly imprinted on all that we have been, all that we are, and all we will ever be. We will never forget you.” Love always, Your Family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 am at the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, make a donation in Doris’ name to the American Red Cross.

Carl E. Hammerich, Jr.
Carl, 40, passed away Sept. 16, 2001 in Federal Way, WA. He is survived by his wife Debbie, daughter Rachel, son Eric and granddaughter Chandelle. He is also survived by parents Carl and Elisabeth Hammerich, and sisters Angelika Bostwick (Jeff) and Sylvia Brougham (Mark). He was born in Frankfurt, Germany and graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School in 1979. Carl worked with his hands for a living and had a talent for fixing anything. Carl will be greatly missed and forever remembered and loved by his family. A memorial service for Carl will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 in Mountain View Garden Chapel at 4:00 PM. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

Frances E. Hibberd passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. She was 91 years young, and is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Herbert. Aunt Fran is in loving memory by brother-in- law, Joseph J. Herbert; the Dolan Family of New York State; two nephews, Jack and Joseph; niece, Joanne, and many friends who will deeply miss her. Frank John Salatino “Petie”
Frank J. Salatino, “Petie”, 87, died September 17, 2001 in Gig Harbor. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church where he was an usher. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, and was inducted into the Voter’s Hall of Fame 2001. Petie was an Army veteran of WWII and had been a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was preceded in death by his wife Clara in 1979 and is survived by daughters, Darlene (Gary) Liddick, Fox Island; Chris (Michael) Wholey, Gig Harbor; sister, Elvira Bailey, Ellensburg; brother, Richard, Tacoma; grandchildren, Scott (Laurie) Liddick, Stacy (Todd) Laney and Brandon Wholey; 2 great-grandchildren and devoted companion Edna Morrone and her daughter Debra (Roger) Vondetti. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 21, 2001, 10:30 AM, St. Rita Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 20, 2001, 7:00 PM, also at St. Rita’s. Viewing at the funeral home Thursday from Noon until 5:00 PM. Family entombment services Calvary Cloisters. James Lester Latham
James Lester Latham, 64, of Federal Way, Washington, died Sunday, September 16, 2001, after a gallant fight with cancer. Jim was born in Gebo, Wyoming on July 10, 1937 to the late Raymond and Alice Latham. A long time resident of this area, Jim graduated from Federal Way High School in 1955. He served in the United States Navy from 1955- 1958. After being discharged from the Navy, Jim worked for Northwest Airlines for 29 years, retiring as a captain in 1997. Jim enjoyed many outdoor activities, including tennis, hiking and kayaking. Jim had a love for music and was a member of the barbershop chorus, "The Harmony Kings". He also sang tenor with a senior championship quartet, "The Country Squires." Preceded in death by his son Jay and brother Larry, Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, M. Joleen Latham; his children, Jeff E. Latham (Kim), Heidi J. L’Esperance (Carl) and Jack L. Latham; his sister, Dennie Borland. Jim has 5 grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew, Hayli, Michael and Katie. The viewing will be Thursday, September 20, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, 1535 SW Dash Pt. Rd., Federal Way. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St. Theresa’s Church, 3939 SW 331 St., Federal Way, WA on September 21st at 11:00 AM. The graveside service will be held at Gethsemane Cemetery. Gerald Joseph Carreau
July 20, 1925-September 16, 2001
After a 4-year battle with cancer, the Lord called upon Jerry to join Him. Jerry was born and raised in Tacoma. He served the Navy for 7 years. Jerry retired from Heidelberg Brewery after 30 years. He was quite the handyman and loved any type of gadget there was. Survivors include his devoted sweetheart of 27 years, Grace Jones; his son David (Kim), daughter Denise (Mike); Grace’s two sons, James (Sandra) and Richard (Rita); sister Lucille; brothers Bob, Eddie and Tom; and the many grandchildren who all adored him. A special thanks goes to all medical staff. Jerry will be missed by all who walked through his path. Rest in peace. Private graveside services.

Jennifer J. Hogue
May 2, 1969 - September 9, 2001
Jennifer, of University Place, succumbed to cancer at the age of 32 in the Salem, Oregon home of her parents. Jennifer grew up in Keizer, OR, where she was active in sports and the Willamette Council of Campfire. She spent 12 summers at Camp Kilowan as a camper, then counselor. She was active in swimming as a youngster, leading to becoming a life guard, instructor and swim team coach. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1992 with a BA in Physical Education. At Pacific Lutheran she was the student assistant to the women’s basketball team. Following graduation she remained in Tacoma working in aquatics at the Boys and Girls Club. She became Director of Aquatics at Lakewood YMCA, moving to the same position at the new Briggs Community YMCA in Olympia in 1997. She was later named Senior Program Director, a position she held until the end of her career. Survivors include her parents, Jim and Biff Hogue of Salem, OR; sisters, Lynne Erickson of Broadview, MT; Dee Anne Hogue of Billings, MT; Heidi Keller of Salem, OR and Wendee Yung of San Francisco, CA; brother, Craig Hogue of Salem, OR and other relatives. Also surviving an extraordinarily large number of close friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, Sept. 22 at University Place Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions to Briggs Community YMCA, 1530 Yelm Highway SE, Olympia, WA 98501.

Nathan Shouse
Nathan was born in St. Paul, MN, September 17, 1971. A graduate of Cascade High School in Everett, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Pacific Lutheran University and worked for Boeing 2.5 years. He then received a Master’s degree in Education and has been teaching Math and Coaching, most recently at Lakeridge Junior High in the Sumner School District. Nathan enjoyed athletics, the outdoors and being with friends and family. Married July 23, 2000 to Mari Hoseth, he was diagnosed with leukemia while on their honeymoon in Hawaii. The past year’s courageous struggle has been supported with the prayers of many. He died on his 30th birthday. Nathan’s faith in God ‘s love through Jesus is a comfort to all who know and love him. He is survived by his beloved wife, his parents Dick and Kathy Shouse, brother Matt (Kim) and sister Sarah, grandparents Bill and Lois Lobeda and Howard Shouse (Andi), several aunts, uncles, cousins; in-laws Paul and Jeanne Hoseth, Karl (Alison) and niece Annika. His grandmother Evelyn Shouse preceded him in death. The family thanks the many skilled caregivers at Virginia Mason Hospital, Oregon Health Sciences University and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The memorial service will be Friday, September 21, 4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Parkland. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be designated to American Cancer Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center or a Lutheran congregation of your choosing in memory of Nathan.

Volney B. Hoover
Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Volney Hoover was born in Oroville, WA on September 20, 1926 and went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2001 after a long extended illness. He will be so greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel, son Randy (Lisa) Hoover, daughter Renee (Walter) Torres, three grandchildren Ryan, Erica and Alejandro, four sisters Faith Stevens, Geraldine Dressler, Lorraine Simnit and Shirley Ball, three brothers Dr. Galen Hoover, Bernard Hoover and Wayne Hoover. Memorial contributions may be made to World Visions in Federal Way. Memorial services will be held at the Puyallup Church of the Nazarene, 1026 7th Ave. SW, Puyallup on Friday, September 21st at 11:00 AM. Private entombment at Sumner Mausoleum. Arrangements in the care of Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup (845-0536).
