WAYNE J. REFFNER, SR.
Wayne J. Reffner, Sr., 86, born April 15, 1915 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Bessie Reffner, passed away September 26, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Wayne was a WWII and Korean War veteran, retiring from the U.S. Army with over 27 years of service. He then became a corrections officer at McNeil Island, retiring after 15 years. He was a Lakewood resident for over 40 years. His wife, Florence V. Reffner, preceded him in death. Survivors include his children, Wayne J. (Ellen) Reffner, Jr. of Olympia, Patricia Gill of Lakewood, and Michael D. Reffner of Lakewood; his, grandchildren, Patrick (Karen) Reffner of Lakewood; Joseph (Lisa) Reffner of Scott AFB, Illinois; Melissa J. Gill of Tacoma, WA; and Christopher (Alejandra) Gill of Reedley, CA; 2 great-grandchildren, Carl Reffner and Andrea Gill; and other family members. Viewing 3pm to 8pm, Monday, October 1, Mt. Annetta “Kelly” Kellum
After a heroic battle with cancer, she passed away on September 23, 2001. She is survived by her parents Marvin and Ruth Kellum, brothers Leonard and John, sister- in-law Charlotte, and niece and nephew Heather and Leonard. She was raised in Baltimore, MD, and settled in Graham, WA after retiring from the Army in 1993. She retired from the Army with over 23 years service. As a LPN, she dedicated her life to helping and training others, especially in the field of dialysis. In lieu of flowers, the family re- quests donations be made to Lake- wood Dialysis Center in her name. A memorial service is planned for 7:00 PM Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Ave., Puyallup.

EUGENE HERBERT BRUS
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Eugene went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001. He was born in New York City, March 27, 1904. He is survived by his wife, Madelyene; his three children and their families, Robert and Diane Brus, Beverly Harris, James and Rosalee Brus; his grandchildren, Randall Brus, Karen McPherson, Connie Harris, Mark Harris, Matt Harris, Stuart Harris, Jeffrey Brus and Shari Layson; his great-grandchildren, Angela, Jill, Ian, Daniel, Drew, Jessica, J.T., Emily, John, Peter, Maddie, Brus, Christian, Jennifer, Mark, Ellen, Nick and Katie. Thomas J. (TJ) Moore
Born in Forsythe, GA on August 24, 1928. He entered the US Army in 1949, where he proudly served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1977, Mr. Moore retired from the military and began a locksmithing career in Tillicum, WA. On Sept. 20, 2001, Mr. Moore died peacefully at home. He was a respected pillar of the community, and is survived by 12 children and 2 siblings. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, 9-29-01, in the Mt. View Celebration of Life Center, Aspen Chapel. 584-0252.

Jackie Borman
Born June 6, 1925 in Crawford County, KS and passed away September 24, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. He served in the Army and retired as a SFC. Jackie was a member of First Assembly of God Life Center, VFW Post 1428 South Tacoma, and the Blind Veteran Association. He enjoyed gardening and ceramics, even though he was losing his vision. Jackie was preceded in death by his two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet Borman; son Pat Borman, his wife Setsuko, their son Jerell W. Borman Sr. and his son Jerell W. Borman Jr.; daughters Pennie Edwards, her husband Ted and their son Richard; and Jenny Edwards, her husband Rod and their children Robert, Alyssa and Katie; along with numerous nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the staff at Manor Care for the excellent care given to our father/husband during his stay. Marianne Hulscher Hoag
Born November 15, 1941 in Tacoma to Anthony and Evelyn Hulscher, Marianne Hulscher Hoag gave herself to the Lord, after a long battle with cancer, on September 25, 2001 at age 59. Filled with the love of travel for most of her life, Marianne has made her final, greatest journey. A loving Mother and Grandmother, she is survived by three daughters and four grandchildren. Marianne enjoyed being with her family, camping and baseball. She will be greatly missed.

John (Jack) R. Burton
Born October 12, 1926, passed away September 25, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mildred; children Linda and Doug Ramsey, John Burton, Alan and Nancy Burton; 2 grandsons, J.R. Burton and Shane Ramsey. He also leaves behind his brothers and sisters, David and Rob, Marlowe and Betty, and their families. Jack was a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge, Past Monarch of the Tacobat Grotto and Past President of the Northwest Grotto Association. He was a past president of the “We Fifty Dance Club”. He was a member of the Tacoma Elks Lodge #174, an avid billiards player and golfer. By his wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made in his name to a charity of your choice. Elma W. Kesterson
Born on Fenwick Mt., WV on Feb. 21, 1936. Preceded in death by her daughter Debbie and her grandson Normie, they are now holding hands together and singing with Jesus. Survived by her children, Dot (Kevin) Kennedy, Darlene McDonald, Denny Kesterson, and their father, Benny Kesterson, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, an abundance of family, friends, and her best friend (her fishing partner). Mary K. Buckman
Born on October 8, 1923 in Boise, ID; passed away on September 24, 2001. Survived by her daughter, Kelli Bailey; her sister, Irene Ono; her partner, Les Buckman and many dear friends and relatives. Mary will be remembered for her generous heart and dancing spirit. Public viewing, 3-8 PM, Fri., Sept. 28 at Mountain View Funeral Home. A memorial service in Tacoma to be announced.

Clara J. Pollack
Clara, 94, of Lakewood, passed away at her home on Sept. 24, 2001. She was born Clara Jeanette Kaasa on Feb. 25, 1907 in Boone County, NE. Preceding her in death were 3 husbands, Jerome Hodge, James Acheson and Stephen Pollack. Also, her 2 sons, Marvin and Lester Hodge. Mrs. Pollack retired from St. Regis in 1972. She enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, and going to lunch with her many friends and family. Surviving Clara is one sister, Jewels Lancaster of Austin, TX; grandchildren Sharon (Hodge) and Bob Spencer of Atlanta, GA; Theresa (Hodge) Luedtke of Olympia; Jerome Hodge of Shelton; Dan, Joe and Patty Hodge of Taco- ma; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all her friends and especially to the Hospice caregivers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 at 2:00pm at New Tacoma Cemetery
