Mary Nameniuk
Mary Nameniuk, resident of Puyallup, passed away on September 27th, 2001, at the age of 96 years. She was born to Antonia (Owsanick) and Alex Stefanishen in Pleasant Home, Manitoba, Canada on April 22nd, 1905 and moved to Belfield, North Dakota in 1907. In 1944, she moved to Puyallup. She was a Baler by profession and worked for Spruce Veneer Box Company of Puyallup from the mid 1940’s through the mid 1950’s. She was also Owner and Operator of Nameniuk’s Berry Farm of Puyallup from the mid 1940’s through the late 1990’s. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Seattle, World War One AmVets Auxiliary, a 40 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary - Daffodil Aerie #2308 of Puyallup; and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary - Post #2224 of Puyallup. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth and her husband, Herb Roberts of Puyallup and Margie and her husband, Frank Shaydik, also of Puyallup; one son, Joe and his wife, Pam Nameniuk of Puyallup; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Hills Funeral Home in Puyallup. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2001 at 1:00 PM at Woodbine Cemetery In Puyallup. If desired, remembrance donations are suggested to the Tacoma Rescue Mission: P.O. Box 1912, Tacoma, WA 98401.

Billie Effinger
Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, born August 24, 1908, died peacefully on September 26, 2001 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Douglas M. Effinger in 1991. Billie leaves behind her four children, Ann (Larry) Ghilarducci, Linda (Tom) Gilmer, Gary (Liz) Effinger and Arnold (Jeanne) Effinger. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Special memories of Billie include huckleberry cobbler, marbles, Mercer Lake, hummingbirds, beach combing, sunshine, clam digging, mushrooming, Hamms Beer, back scratches, travelling and warm laughter. She will be forever loved and missed by her family. The family thanks Atria Laurel House and U.P. Care Center for their support and loving care. A celebration of Billie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to “Campaign for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital” or Franciscan Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

Walter Ronald Ross
passed away at his home in Yelm on September 24, 2001 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born on July 22, 1921 in Dayton, WA. He is survived by Mildred, his wife of 62 years; four sons, Dennis, Darrel, Ray and Rod; two daughters, Corrine and Patricia; his sister, Luella Severs; 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numer- ous nieces, nephews and extend- ed family. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2001 at 2:00 pm at the New Life Christian Center in Yelm.

Peter James Wiese
Peter James Wiese died unexpectedly at his home in Puyallup on Monday, Sept. 24. He was born on Nov. 5, 1954 in Milwaukee, WI. Peter was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Wiese. He is survived by three children, Sonya, Erik and Christopher; his father, Robert Wiese (Sandy Knutson) of Ridgway, CO; his special friend, Marlee Almont; 5 sisters, Roberta DuCharme, Debbie Klismet (Douglas), Cindy Haagensen, Sally Hoff (Tim), Wendy Kapp (Jeff) and many nieces and nephews, all of WI. He was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church and a volunteer within the community of Puyallup and had many friends. Visitation will be at the Oakwood Hill Funeral Chapel on Monday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Puyallup.

Frances M. Rankin
A 58 year Puyallup resident, died Tuesday, September 25, 2001. Preceded in death by husband of 59 years, Everett T. Rankin and granddaughter Vicki. Survived by sons, John L. “Jack” Rankin and wife Peggy of Garden Valley, CA and Jerry W. Rankin and wife Tanda of Orting; daughter, Karen A. Fisher and husband Michael of Graham; 12 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren. A time of viewing will be held Monday, October 1 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Sumner Cemetery. Reception to follow at Orting Eagles, 112 Bridge St.

Age 17, of Port Orchard, died Sept. 24, 2001 in an automobile accident in Port Orchard. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 AM in the auditorium at South Kitsap High School.

Edna E. Etherton
Age 96, born December 31, 1905 in McCammon, Idaho; passed over September 27, 2001, at Regency of Puyallup. Retired self-employed bookkeeper, tax preparer, hard working Lady. Dancing was her life. She also enjoyed camping. Edna met a stranger. Preceding her in death, 2 husbands, Raymond Sjostrom and Neal Etherton; also daughter, Joyce L. Oakes and son, Fredrick A. Sjostrom; and two granddaughters. She was the loving mother of “Penny” Elva (Earl) White; grandmother of 9; great-grandmother of 10; great-great-grandmother of 1; mother-in-law of Ernie Oakes. We know Grandma will be “Circling Up” with her family and friends. Graveside service at Fir Lane Memorial Park, Spanaway, WA, Tuesday, October 2, 2001, 11:00 AM.

Dorris L. Williams
Age 96, died September 22 in Olympia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Williams, a son Wayne Milholland and daughter Carol Sagness. Surviving are her sons, Gerald Milholland and his wife Beverly, Son Ken Milholland and his wife Maryann. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael Milholland, Janet Milholland, Jill Boyce, Mitchell Milholland, and Hans Sagness, great grandchildren McKenna and Kelsey Milholland, Michelle and Alex Milholland and great great grandchild Dyriece. Dorris lived most of life in Puyallup and dedicated a major part of her life in service to others. She especially loved gardening and was a noted rosarian. She graduated from Puyallup High School in 1922. A memorial service will be held Thursday October 4, 2:00 PM at the Mt. View Lutheran Church in Edgewood.

Alberta B. Logan
Born Nov. 13, 1906 in Gunston, VA, passed away Sept. 25, 2001 in Tacoma. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband Ross and son Gerald. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at St. John Baptist Church, 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at New Tacoma Cemetery.

RICHARD ALDEN RAZ
Richard Alden Raz, 34, of Lacey, passed away in his sleep on Wed- nesday, September 26, 2001, at home in the presence of his family. Richard joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and was stationed at Fort Lewis for most of his career. He retired on May 15, 1999 after serving 13 years in the 2nd Ranger Battalion and 1st Special Forces Group. He was well-respected by his peers, loved his job and serving his country. Richard was an extraordinarily honorable and loving man. He will be greatly missed and always loved by those who knew him. His legacy is a combination of the interactions he had with his family, friends and comrades who were touched by his life. He loved the outdoors and was constantly challenging himself. He was a mountain climb- er extraordinaire and his expertise was utilized to train many others. Richard is survived by his wife, Sook, of Lacey; brother Philip of Puyallup; his sister Katherine of Chicago; his father Robert and stepmother Tina of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his mother Elizabeth and stepfather Dan Groat of Kerrville, Texas; and his extended family. Viewing will be on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at Olympic Memorial Gardens, 5725 Little Rock Road SW, Tumwater, WA. Services will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2001 at 3 p.m. at the Olympic Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Providence Sound Home Care & Hospice of Thurston County. We love you, Richard, and God Bless you. May you climb many of Heaven’s mountains!

William T. Burch
William T. Burch passed away on September 26, 2001. He was born June 6, 1925 in Independence, MO to Chester and Marjorie Burch. Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and a long time member of the Elks. He is survived by his wife, LaVaun; four children: Patricia (Dennis) Bockus, Barbara (Charles) Bryant, Jeffrey (Joyce) Burch and Jerry (Kelley) Burch; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Charles R. Cunningham (Chuck)
Age 62, of Anderson Island, WA, died Sept. 23, 2001. born Jan. 13, 1939 in Tampa, FL to Samuel and Marion (Lopez) Cunningham. He was a 1962 graduate of Georgia Tech, and retired in 1992 as a Thermal/Structural Engineer. Survived by wife Georgene “Genie” (Pettainen) Cunningham of Anderson Island, his parents, stepdaughter Kelligene Empey and 1 grandchild. No services. Rebbeca Nicole Aramburo
Age 9, of Lakewood, died Sept. 21, 2001. She is survived by her father Jose Aramburo, stepmother Angelina Haggard, and brother Lucas Steven Aramburo, at home; several grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by twin brothers Francisco and Jacob. A memorial service will be held Friday (TODAY), 10:00 AM at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 8601 104th St. SW, Lakewood. Burial following the services at Mt. View Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood. Memorials may be made to the Family of Rebbeca Aramburo at any Washington Mutual Bank. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. God bless her soul.
