Age 60, born Nov. 6, 1940, in Mankato, MN, grew up in Camas Valley, OR, died Sept. 28, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. Preceded in death by parents Henry A. and Nora Denn and brother Henry L. Denn (Tom). Survived by sister Cindy O'Bannon, Hermiston, OR, sister-in-law Margaret Denn, Sumner, WA, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Terry. Memorial service on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1:00pm at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home, 2215 - 6th Ave. Tacoma.Thanks to Bill's many caregivers and friends.He really enjoyed music and jamming with local bands. Edna E. Etherton
Age 96, born December 31, 1905 in McCammon, Idaho; passed over September 27, 2001, at Regency of Puyallup. Retired self-employed bookkeeper, tax preparer, hard working Lady. Dancing was her life. She also enjoyed camping. Edna never met a stranger. Preceding her in death, 2 husbands, Raymond Sjostrom and Neal Etherton; also daughter, Joyce L. Oakes and son, Fredrick A. Sjostrom; and two granddaughters. She was the loving mother of “Penny” Elva (Earl) White; grandmother of 9; great-grandmother of 10; great-great-grandmother of 1; mother-in-law of Ernie Oakes. We know Grandma will be “Circling Up” with her family and friends. Graveside service at Fir Lane Memorial Park, Spanaway, WA, Tuesday, October 2, 2001, 11:00 AM.

Bernice E. McDonald
Bernice E. McDonald, 84, passed away September 27, 2001 at Tacoma General Hospital. Bernice was born in the Tacoma suburb of Fern Hill on August 9, 1917. She was raised in Fern Hill, attended the University of Washington and the College of Puget Sound. Bernice was employed in the retail industry at Fisher’s Department Store, the University of Puget Sound and Tacoma Community College Book Stores. She retired from the New Tacoma Cemetery with 25 years of service. Bernice was a Daffodil Princess Chaperone and a charter member of the Daffodillians. She was also a member of the Zora Temple Daughter’s of the Nile and the Zora Patrol Drill Team. Bernice will be greatly missed by Bill, her husband of 60 years; son Jerry; daughter-in-law Mary; granddaughters Leigh and Kelly, relatives and many friends. Viewing will be Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at 1 PM in the Evergreen Chapel followed by funeral services at 2 PM. Burial will follow at New Tacoma Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Dorothy “Eileen” Porter
Born Dec. 31, 1916 to Frank and Mary Harrington in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy for Girls in Des Moines in 1935. Eileen married Christopher John Porter on Sept. 4, 1938. They lived in several different areas and moved back to Des Moines, Iowa in 1966. Survived by 1 daughter, Janet Smothers of Eatonville, WA; 5 grandchildren, Lori (Greg) Hansen of Moses Lake; Kimberly (James) Hale of Des Moines, WA; Russell (Elizabeth) Hammen of Indianola, Iowa; Melissa Smothers of Des Moines, Iowa and Beth (Rocky) Lang of Ephrata, WA; and 4 great- grandchildren, Tiffany, Courtney, Cody and Clorissa. She was preceded in death by Chris and a son, James R. Porter and her parents. Eileen enjoyed sewing and all sorts of hobbies. She was a “great” mom and grandmother and will be missed by many. Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 1st at 11:00 AM in Tacoma Christian Reformed Community Church, 2419 - 72nd St. E., Tacoma. Burial will be in West Des Moines, Iowa. Marguareitte Doane
Born in Rushville, MO, 12-14-22, a Tacoma resident since 1952, passed away in Omaha Methodist Hospital, 9-22-01. She is survived by 3 stepsons, William Doane of Auburn, Thomas Doane of Bremerton and Brian Doane of Tacoma; daughter Hazel Kemerling of Tar- kio, MO; 4 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren; brother Everett Trosper, sister and brother-in-law Eugene and Jenny Gilbert, all of St. Joseph, MO. Preceded in death by husband William Doane in 1980, her parents Elton and Hannah Trosper. Services were held in Tar- kio, MO, 9-25-01. No local services.

Jerry P. Geehan
Born November 14, 1913 in Tacoma, WA. Jerry passed away peacefully September 28, 2001 after living his entire life in Tacoma. Jerry graduated from Lincoln High School. After attending the University of Puget Sound for 2 years, he began his broadcasting career at KVI Radio in 1932. In 1937, he became the first broadcaster for the Tacoma Tigers. In 1938 he joined KMO Radio, broadcasting the WIL Baseball games, P.L.U. and U.P.S. games and a daily sports cast. In 1943, Jerry became KMO’s sales manager, in 1945 the General Manager. In 1952 he served as General Manager of Channel 13 TV. Jerry was owner and General Manager of KTAC Radio from 1952 to 1969. From 1969 to 1972, he was President of the Downtown Tacoma Association, laying the foundation for much of the revitalization seen in downtown Tacoma today. Jerry was President and General Manager of Tacoma Cemeteries from 1972 until his retirement in 1983. Appreciative of the support he received in Tacoma, Jerry chose to be active in the community as a way of giving back. He served as Chairman of the Board of the WA. St. Assoc. of Broadcasters; Honorary Life Member and Past Exalted Ruler Tacoma Lodge B.P.O.E. #174; past Pres. of the Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival; Honorary Life Member and past Pres. of the Tacoma Young Men’s Business Club; 32 yr. member, Downtown Tacoma Kiwanis Club; past Pres. of the Tacoma Athletic Commission; Director of the Tacoma Better Business Bureau; 2 terms as Treasurer of the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce; Bishop’s Committee member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church; Board of Directors of Franke Tobey Jones Home; and former member of the Tacoma Club and the Tacoma Country Club. Jerry was an avid golfer, supporter of U.P.S. and P.L.U. athletic programs and a rabid Husky Football fan. He was a devoted husband and father, survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores, of Tacoma; daughter, Victoria Loney and her fiancee«, Gary Shilley of Gig Harbor; sisters, Katherine Hazelrigg of Olympia and Marion Thompson of Tacoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by brothers Dr. John Geehan, Seattle, WA; Walter Geehan, Phoenix, AZ and Charles Geehan, Milton, WA. The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Ms. Donalee Kessler of Tacoma and Ms. Vivian Steptoe of Lakewood, for their caring, compassion and friendship. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. at New Tacoma Cemetery, 9221 Chambers Creek Rd. W. Carl Wilhelm
Carl Wilhelm, 81, passed away September 23, 2001. Carl was born August 25, 1920 in Tacoma, WA. Carl served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific. After the service he worked for Greyhound Bus Lines. Carl owned and operated Carl’s Drive-In from 1962 until 1985. Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lydia; a son, Michael Carl; daughter-in-law, Linda Wilhelm; grandchildren, Sean Michael and Michelle Christine Wilhelm; three sisters and one brother. Maria Diaz Bush
Maria passed away peacefully on Sept. 25, 2001. She is survived by her daughter Linda Stoner (Steven) of Tacoma, son Gene Bush (Phyllis) of Poulsbo, and grandson Anthony Trunzo of Seattle. Mom loved babies most of all, followed closely by chocolate. She was an accomplished homemaker and the best mom she knew how to be. Aloha, dear mother, you are loved and will be missed.

Mary Hauge passed away September 28, 2001 at her home in Fircrest, Washington. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Vernon, of 56 years and by her family and friends. She was a devoted mother to son, Rocky Hauge and daughter, Candy (Mike) Barney. She was a special grandmother to Michelle Barney, Kimberly (James) Zilka and Wake (Cassandra) Barney; and great- grandsons, Jason Zilka and Ian Mahar. She was active in the Red Cross at Madigan with disabled veterans and was past President of Home Builders of Tacoma Auxiliary. Hobbies include ceramics and artificial flower arranging and collecting thimbles and ceramic horses.
