Gregory J. Durand, Sr.
Greg was born on Feb. 26, 1947 and passed away on Sept. 30, 2001. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 6th at Des Moines Park (the North end of the marina). Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Institute.

Loyetta “Honey” Boldt
Honey, 78, went home to her God on the 29th of September 2001, at 13:40 in Puyallup, South Hill. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 55 years, 11 months, Ben Boldt; her son and daughter-in-law, whom she loved very much. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ. She leaves her grandsons and one granddaughter- in-law. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Christ, 1709 So. 112th Street, Tacoma, WA, at 3:30 pm Saturday, 6th of October.

Irma Westlund
Irma Westlund, resident of Puyallup, passed away on October 1st, 2001, after a brief, but courageous bout with cancer, at the age of 65 years. She was born to Hulda (Richter) and Johann Boettcher in Tarutino, (Rumania) Ukraine on April 5, 1936, and has lived in Puyallup since 1952. She was a Restaurant Hostess by profession and has worked for Johnny’s Enterprises for the past 28 years. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Puyallup. In 2000, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gerhard Boettcher. She is survived by two sons, Glen D. Westlund, Jr. of Spanaway and Scott and his wife Saundra Westlund of Edgewood; one daughter, Monica Anderson of Puyallup; three grandsons, Douglas Westlund, Shane Westlund-O’Brien and James Anderson, III; one brother, Werner and his wife Sandra Boettcher of Puyallup; sister-in-law, Gertrude Boettcher, also of Puyallup and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 5, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup. If desired, remembrance donations are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund: 214 Pioneer Ave. E, Puyallup, WA 98372. Arrangements were made through Hills Funeral Home, Puyallup.

James Richard Watts
James Richard Watts passed away Oct. 1, 2001 at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1938 in Parke County, Indiana. He was the son of George W., Sr. and Helen Watts of Montezuma, IN. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Bessie of Spanaway; 1 daughter, Ramona Navarro of Tacoma, WA; 2 grandsons, Brian and Carl Watts of Tacoma, WA; granddaughter, Stephanie Watts of Puyallup; sister, Charlotte Purcell of Montezuma, IN; 2 brothers, Donald Watts of Lafayette, IN and Robert Watts of Clinton, IN and several nieces and nephews of IN and WA. Predeceased by his parents; 1 brother, Russell Watts of Montezuma, IN and son, Richard Watts of Spanaway, WA. He was employed at Portac Lumber Mill at Port of Tacoma for 24 years, where he retired. He was a member of Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union 2633; also a 15 year member of the Spana-Park Eagles #3563 of Spanaway, WA. Jim loved to go shopping and traveling. His favorite foods were strawberries and anything chocolate; and all of his wife’s cooking. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, 1-7 PM, at Fir Lane Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Saturday, Oct. 6th, 2:00 PM, Fir Lane Memorial Chapel. Interment Fir Lane Memorial Park. John R. Newman
John (Jack) Richard Newman went with the Lord on September 25, 2001 in Mesa, Arizona. John was born in Tacoma on October 23, 1909 to Robert Lewis John Newman and Martha Ann Newman. John grew up in the tough working class neighborhood above Ruston Way with his brothers George and Lewis and was known for his tenacity and self-determination. He worked for Tacoma Smelting and Refining, North Pacific Plywood, North Coast Door, St. Paul Lumber, Todd Tacoma Shipyards and Buffelen Woodworking, where he retired as Lead Supervisor in 1974. John was a WWII veteran with the U.S. Navy between March 1944 and November 1945, serving with distinction on Okinawa, Guam, Saipan and Ulithi, receiving many commendations and awards. He was a resident of Tacoma for 76 years before moving to the sunny climate of Mesa, Arizona in 1985. The Arizona weather added many wonderful years to his life and he lived them to the fullest. His wife, Edna, of Mesa, along with a son, Timothy and daughter- in-law Linda, from Tacoma survive John. He has two grandchildren: Jeffrey and Rebecca, who reside in Tacoma. His youngest brother, George of Tacoma and sister, Marie of Ocean Shores along with sisters-in-law, Marge and Helen, also survive John. John also has stepsons, Tom Coke of Arizona; Jim Coke of Michigan and Clarence Davidson of Pennsylvania; stepdaughters, Kay LaDuke of Arizona; Mary Coke and Betty Caps of Michigan and Cheryl Davidson of Seattle. He also has numerous nieces and nephews. “Dad, you were a wonderful father and friend to all of us. We love you and will miss your stories, jokes and laughter.” A funeral mass will be given at St. Charles Borromeo in Tacoma on Tuesday, October 23, 2001. A reception at the church will follow the mass.

Lilly Cook
Lilly Cook, 93, passed away Oct. 2, 2001. She was born Dec. 21, 1907 in Bluegrass, ND and moved to Tacoma in 1942. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Della Harn and Donna Silverton, 4 grand- children, 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Lippert. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lakewood Care Center for their care and thoughtfulness during the past six years. Interment at Fir Lane Memorial Park.

Marguerite A. McDonald
Marguerite McDonald died Sept. 27, 2001 at St. Clare Hospital after a short illness. Marguerite was born Dec. 20, 1921 in Canora, Sask., Canada to William and Ardeth Erichsen. She excelled in school, graduating with honors, and received the Canadian Legion Gold Medal. In her youth, she played tennis, boated, golfed, curled, and competed in hockey and Scottish dancing. She was a secretary in Regina and moved to Tacoma after WWII to join relatives here. She married her husband William and proudly became a U.S. citizen. She worked until her retire- ment at McChord AFB in the federal civil service. Throughout her life she enjoyed all kinds of needlework, reading, bridge, travelling, good food and good conversation. Her wisdom, friendship and humor will be missed by all who knew her. Marguerite was a devoted moth- er, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Anderson, her son-in-law, Dennis, and her beloved grandchildren, Nancy, Steven and David. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and her only sister, Ruth. Visitation on Thursday, Oct. 4th from 9am to 9pm. Funeral services are 1:00pm Friday, Oct. 5th at the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, with graveside prayers following. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Tacoma Rescue Mission.

Pamela D. Lisicki (Nee Kuzniczci)
Pam was taken home suddenly to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001. Born Sept. 10, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas, she lived in Lakewood 37 years before moving to Arizona in 1998. She was an architectural interior designer, best known for her work on the Peoples Church of the Northwest. She had her silk flower business called “A Wedding to Remember.” Pam was preceded in death by her father, Herb Kuzniczci in 1998. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Amy; mother, Virginia Kuzniczci of Lakewood; 2 brothers, Erik H. Kuzniczci (Linda) of Lakewood and Lt. Col. Kurt Kuzniczci (Karen) and their sons, Joseph and Kevin of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves her aunt, Mary Hartwick of Tacoma; stepmother, Audrey of Lakewood and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Ohio, Western New York and Florida. Pam’s artistic talent and sense of humor will be missed by all. Service to be held Thursday, October 4, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Fir Lane Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 924 E. 176th St., Spanway, 531-6600.

Michelle L. Marcheselli
passed away September 26, 2001. Was born September 1, 1962 in Ft. Lewis, WA. Resided in Steilacoom until the age of 18 and then moved to Tacoma. She is survived by her beloved son, Evodio; her sisters, Valerie Knight from Coon Rapids, MN; Alexa Harden from Tacoma; Elizabeth Heller from McMinneville, OR; brother, James Marcheselli from University Place and very dear friends, Walter Brown, Lori Foster and Lisa Osborne. A memorial service will be held on October 5, at 2:00 PM in Steilacoom at the Immaculate Conception Church on Nisqually and Main.

Richard V. Bostwick
Richard V. Bostwick passed away on Sept. 30, 2001. Born in Fargo, ND, 12/17/22 to the late Richard T. and Clara Bostwick. He attended Moorhead State and Concordia U. majoring in business and classical music. Richard and his wife Rosemary moved to Tacoma in 1953 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was employed by WA. Natural Gas Co., Tacoma Realtor, WA Utility &Trans. Commission in Olympia. Former Pres. of the Clef Dwellers musical group, and of the Mt. St. Helens chapter of the 101st Airborne Division Assoc. During WWII he fought with the B Co. 401st GIR in Normandy, Holland and Bastogne. He was proud to be a Screaming Eagle. A longtime member of the VFW #2001, Tacoma Elks #174, Puyallup Eagles #2308 and Visitation Church where he sang in the choir. He is preceded in death by sons Steven and Joseph. Survivors include his loving wife Rosemary and 11 children, Renee (Michael) Casad, Kathy Bostwick, Tony (Debbie) Bostwick, Karen Turner, Jeffrey (Angie) Bostwick, Julie (David) Cosby, MaryJane Bostwick (Jim Bobber), Robert (Rosalie) Bostwick, Louise, Patrick and Andrew (Angie) Bostwick, and 12 grandchildren. Surviving brothers, Bill (Frieda) Bostwick, James (Shirley) Bostwick. Sisters Gloria (Richard) Morris, Patricia (Ermin) Pospisil and Mary Weber. Rosary will be held Friday, Oct. 5th, 7pm at Piper-Morley-Mellinger Funeral Home, 5436 So. Puget Sound. Funeral Mass is Oct. 6th, 11am at Visitation Church. Internment at Calvary Cemetery.

Shirley Maxine Champagne
Shirley M. Champagne, born July 10, 1928 in Tacoma, passed away Monday, October 1, 2001. She worked in the dietary department at Allenmore Hospital for 20 years. Shirley loved her yard and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo A. Champagne Jr., and 2 brothers. Surviving family are 2 sons, Rocky Champagne of Bellingham and John Champagne of Longview, 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. Memorial services will be Monday, October 8, 2001, 2:00 PM at St. Luke’s Memorial Episcopal Church, 3615 North Gove in Taco- ma. Memorials may be made in her memory to Hospice.
