Warren M. Hansen, 70, of Milton, passed away Dec. 24, 1997. Mr. Hansen was a merchant marineand a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie; son, Leroy; parents Marie, Martin, and Dorothy Hansen. Survivors include 4 daughters LaVonne (Tom) Germaine, Linda (Ron) Mundee, Jeana, Lena (Bill) Breiner; 4 sons Lonnie (Linda), Leon (Lola), John (Janell), Dave (Phyllis) Minzey; 2 sisters Karen Petersen, Mary Still; 2 brothers Larry (Anne), Roy; 23 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. No services held at his request.

Barbara A. Leigh
Barbara A. Leigh, 70, died January 11, 1998. A former Des Moines resident, Mrs. Leigh was employed as an executive secretary for Universal Plastics located at South Business Park in Seattle. Mother of Craig (Laura) Sarver of Bonney Lake, and Scott Sarver of Pacific. Sister of Richard Wortman of Arizona. Also survived by 4 grandchildren. Services are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998 at 11 a.m. at POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 320 W. Pioneer Avenue, Puyallup. Memorial contributions to the Kidney Foundation appreciated by family.

Beverly J. Maples On January 14, 1998
Beverly J. Maples passed away after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born March 21, 1941 in Sedro-Woolley Washington, where she met and married Vester M. Maples on December 7, 1957. Together they raised 3 children and shared 40 years of life, love, and marriage. Beverly retired from Green River Community College in 1993 after 21 years of service, to pursue her hobbies and dreams some of which included gardening, quilting, and being with her family, and many friends. Her life will be remembered for the passionate way that she lived. We will truly miss her style, wit, compassion and love. She was above all a dedicated wife, mother, nana and friend. She is survived by her husband Vester M. Maples of Sumner, Wa., and children Janet (Paul) Schneeman of Auburn, Catherine (Carl) Wuitschick of Milton, and Aaron Maples of West Jordan Utah, her three cherished grandchildren Andrew, Erik, and Katie, and a sister Theresa Fotland. Visitation will be held at Powers Funeral Home in Sumner on January 20, from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on January 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Community Church in Sumner. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn.

Beverly J. Maples On January 14, 1998

Emmett Paul Moore
Emmett P. Moore 81, of Tacoma, passed away Jan. 15, 1998 at his home. Mr. Moore retired after 30 years of service at Asarco Smelter. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy, their daughter Sharon L. Nelson of Tacoma, sister Flossie Hoke of Parkland. 2 granddaughters Lana Knight, Kim Nelson and 2 great-grandchildren. Ilene Ina Schuster Born August 12, 1932 in Long Beach, California,
Ilene left this world for a better place January 15, 1998 in Puyallup, Washington. She leaves her devoted husband of 48 years, Thomas M. Schuster, two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Roger Earle), Christine (Mrs. Tom Cruzan) both of Puyallup and one son, Michael T. Schuster of Tacoma, Washington. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The greatest joy was the achievements of her children and grandchildren!! Dedicated to volunteerism, Ilene served as President of #969 VFW Ladies Aux. and State President of Washington State Ladies Aux. ('82-'83) where she gained the distinction of being chosen by the National Organization as "State President of the Year." A true Leo, she attacked with gusto on every endeavor!! Although her failing health curtailed her ability to volunteer, she took great pride in her Aux. Sisters work. Proud of her Indian heritage (her Grandmother was full-blooded Creek) she kept in contact with the Tribe until she passed on. Ilene was an avid junker. She never saw a second hand store she didn't like. She was a true nature lover. Flowers, birds, fish or whatever, never was she bored when surrounded by creatures. Travels to Mexico, Hawaii, or whatever brought her great joy but she was always glad to come home. Services will be held in the Valley Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22 at 2 p.m. with fellowship hour at Ray C. Roberts VFW, 3510 McKinley Ave.

Joseph Henry Tucker SFC, USA, Ret. CPL, Port of Seattle Police Dept., Ret.
Joseph Henry Tucker, 66, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday Jan. 13, 1998, at his Tacoma home with his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 22, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan. Following a distinguished military career, during which he earned the Silver and Bronze Stars, Soldier's Medal, Viet Nam Service and Commendation Medals, Korean Service Medal, and numerous other decorations, Joseph retired and settled in Tacoma. He then began working for the Port of Seattle Police Dept. and retired after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Akiyo, and their children, Yukimi Brown, Ronald Tucker, Akemi Boyd, and Harumi Tolbert; brothers Edgar Tucker, Mack Tucker, and Theodore Tucker; sisters Eleanor Evans and Rosalie Hailey. He is also mourned by a host of relatives and close friends. Memorial services will be held Tuesday the 20th at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. View Valley Chapel. Lois Ann Lauricella Sept. 13, 1922-Jan. 15, 1998
Lois Ann has joined her beloved husband Andy. Together they left a legacy of love and family values that will be carried on through the generations they leave behind. Born in Redwood Falls, MN she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in her home. She lived in Oakes, ND before moving to Tacoma in 1942 with her family. She touched many lives working as an elementary secretary in the Clover Park School District until retiring. She was loved and respected by children, staff, and community members alike. She will be missed by her two sons and their wives, Terry and Linda, and Robert and Joyce; her five grandchildren Travis, Tracy, Trestin, Gina, and Tony; two great-grandchildren, Teren and Krystalyn; brothers, Winton and Larry Feir, and sister Jean Demchok. Friends in the Birthday and Secret Pal Club will also miss her laughter and companionship. Your legacy will be carried forward by the family and friends you have touched. You will be missed, but remembered always. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 in the Garden Chapel at Mt. View Memorial Park. Prentiss Edward Bement Born January 2, 1910 in Miles City, Montana, to Ralph Vincent Bement and Charlotte Mae Hall Bement. As was his wish, he died at home on January 9, 1998 of heart failure, ending an active retired life of sailing and travel despite diabetes and heart trouble. Beloved friend to all who knew him. He was almost a native, having moved to Tacoma the summer of 1910, where he lived until 1990 when he moved to Ocean Shores, WA. Preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Hicker Bement, in 1975. His father and grandfather were railroad men. In his youth, Prent was a roustabout for the railroad in Tacoma, then was sent to Port Angeles as a clerk, and later worked on rail maintenance from Tacoma to Minnesota. After his marriage he picked apples in the Yakima Valley, and worked for the CCC in southern Oregon and northern California. Prent (Sarge) enlisted in the National Guard Calvary Unit, Troop B in 1928, and saw active duty from 1940 to 1945 in the 248th Coast Artillery. He retired from the 41st Infantry Division Washington National Guard in 1970. He has been an active supporter of the 248th Coast Artillery Museum at Fort Worden (State Park) Port Townsend, Washington; a member of the Coronado 25 Fleet 13 Sailing Association; Past "Man of the Year" of the Day Island Yacht Club (Tacoma); and a member of IBEW local 483. He retired as load dispatcher from Tacoma City Light in 1972. He is survived by his friend and companion, Audrey Morgan of Ocean Shores, WA; and her children, Dr. Michael A. Morgan, Seattle, Nancy Lee Morgan, Lynnwood, Diana Lou (James) Hansen, Seattle, Susan Lynn (Brian) Heiner, Seattle; and grandchildren Karl, Gregg and Robin Heiner of Seattle. Also two nieces, Candice Hanes of Tacoma, and Kathleen (Gary) Deardorff of Maui, HI; and eight nieces and nephews by marriage: Janet (Ron) Wicks, Tacoma, Barbara (Shorty) Compton, Mendicino CA, Wayne Hicker, Mendicino CA, Dale Hicker, Springfield MO, Clarice Hicker, Tacoma, Gerald (Gloria) Hicker, Gig Harbor, Jim (Jean) Hicker, Federal Way, Tom (Elizabeth) Hicker, Bremerton, and Sofia Bulgaria; and three cousins, Rhoda Bement Dyson, Lemon Grove CA, Lee (Beverly) Krembs, Olympia, and Bill (Noreen) Glover, Gig Harbor. Memorial Services will be at Mt. View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Tacoma, at 1:00 PM Saturday, Jan. 24th. Robi Kennedy
Robi Kennedy age 49, died Friday, January 16, 1998 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born on November 29, 1948 in Lebanon, Oregon to Florence Aiken and Clifford Dugger. She graduated from McEwen High School in Athena, Oregon in 1967. Robi married Tim Kennedy, her high school sweetheart, on March 16, 1968. They resided in Seoul Korea while Tim served with the U.S. Navy; Hermiston, Oregon; Katy, Texas; Spanaway, WA. and for the past 12 years in Tacoma, WA. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell in Pendleton, Oregon, Lamb-Weston in Hermiston, Oregon and Titus-Will Ford in Tacoma, WA. She and her husband were co-founders of Groff's Texas Style Potato Chips, Houston, Texas in 1983, where she was in charge of accounts receivable and payroll. In 1986, they founded Tim's Cascade Style Potato Chips where she was involved in every aspect of the business. Robi was Shrine Queen of the State of Oregon in 1964. She had a big heart that touched many lives with her generous, humanitarian acts. She loved to travel with Tim and family. Her proudest accomplishment was raising her two daughters, Cari Kennedy of Federal Way, WA and Heidi Kennedy Wilson, wife of Daniel Wilson of Seattle, WA. Survivors include her husband, two daughters, brothers David Dugger of Ocean Shores, WA, Dallas of Newport, Oregon, Glenn of Umatilla, Oregon and sister Kathleen Leichleiter of Puyallup, WA. Her parents preceded her in death. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Tacoma, WA. on Friday, January 23rd at 10:00 a.m. Father Vince Pastro will officiate. Virgil P. Holly
Virgil P. Holly, 90 years young, died peacefully in his Tacoma home on January 15, 1998. He was born in Grandview, WA February 2, 1907, where he spent much of his life. Dad was a carpenter by trade; owned and operated "Orchard Tracks" service station for over 20 years. He moved to Tacoma area in 1991. Dad belonged to the Methodist Church, was a member of the Loyal Order of Eagles and a Third Degree Mason. Dad enjoyed family and friends, also wood- working, fishing, camping, traveling, music and dancing. He danced until a week and a half before his death. He is survived by daughters, LaDonna Hill of Anchorage, AK; Janice Krussow of Gig Harbor, WA; Glenna Rogers, of Middleton, ID; Fifteen grandchildren and Thirty great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20 at Haven of Rest Chapel in Gig Harbor. Remembrances may be made to American Heart Association. Wayne H. Moore Born in Tacoma, WA, July 11, 1916; died in Snohomish, WA, Jan. 12, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Diane Palmer and Lynne Moore; stepsons Dale and Bill; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and Vi, a special sister-in-law.
