Jesse Marvin Daniels, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, WA.
He was born on August 1, 1910 in Perry, Iowa, the son of Claude and Minerva (Wilson) Daniels.
Jesse has been a resident of the Sedro-Woolley area for the past 65 years and farmed for most of his life.
He was united in marriage to Amanda Forshee on February 2, 1942 in Mount Vernon and they celebrated 63 years together.
Jesse enjoyed farming, animals, and kids.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Daniels of Sedro-Woolley. 3 daughters, Sondra Burnett and her husband, Robert of Sedro-Woolley, Judy Stevens and her husband, Gene of Tacoma, and Gloria Peterson and her companion, Sheldon Flynn of Stanwood. 8 grandchildren, numerous great and great- great grandchildren and 1 sister, Virgie Husfloen of Addy, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond Daniels and a daughter, Gayle Maurer.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 11:00am at the Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9am to 5pm and Friday from 9am to 5pm and 7pm to 8pm at Lemley Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or North Puget Oncology.

Mary Ann Iszler
Born in Jamestown, ND on Apr. 25, 1944

Mary Ann Iszler, 61, a resident of Sedro Woolley, passed away on September 17, 2005 at her home. She was born April 25, 1944 in Jamestown North Dakota, the daughter of Adolph & Blanche Nowatzek. She was raised and attended school in Jamestown, North Dakota, where she graduated from Jamestown Senior High School in 1962. She attended Devils Lake Jr. College where she graduated with a nursing degree in 1976. She worked many years as an LPN in North Dakota, working with the mentally challenged at the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown.
She married Charles Iszler on May 11, 1982 and they made there home at Ellendale for a few years, moving to Skagit County in 1988. Mary did complete a BA degree in nursing while in Washington. She worked in a few local nursing homes as a RN.
After retiring from nursing she owned & operated a small consignment store at the Mission Market in Sedro Woolley. She also worked at Target in Burlington, Washington.
She enjoyed camping, hiking, and canoeing. She was very active in showing Toy Fox Terriers as a hobby. She loved her dogs and was an excellent breeder.
She is survived by three daughters, Katherine Young of Fargo, ND, Ruth Castlser of Glyndon, MN and Dawn Flores of Moorhead, MN. One son, Chris Chidley of Sedro-Woolley, WA. A sister, Marge Noren of Sedro-Woolley, WA. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren.
She will be remembered by her family as one who was feisty and funny. She spent many years caring for others. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Graveside services to be held at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery, Wednesday September 21, 2005 at 2:30 PM with Pastor Keith Luna officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Fremont Buchanan
Born in East LaPorte, NC on May 12, 1928
Departed on Sep. 16, 2005 and resided in Sedro-Woolley, WA.

FREMONT BUCHANAN, 77, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday September 16, 2005.
He was born on May 12, 1928 in East LaPorte, North Carolina, the fourth of six children of John J. & Mary Jane (Hooper) Buchanan. He was raised and attended school in the Moses Creek area of North Carolina.
In 1945 at the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country until the end of WW II.
In 1951 Fremont came to Skagit County and worked for the Scott Paper Company, starting a 38 year career as a diesel mechanic.
He met his soul mate in Joan Jensen, and they were united in marriage on June 25, 1955. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer.
Fremont also hauled cattle and bulls for area farmers, taking them to breeding sites or to auctions and was known as the “Bullman” to those in the industry.
He enjoyed being around his cattle, visiting with his many friends, taking horseback trips into the mountains to go hunting and fishing and had spent many a day in the North Cascades even before the highway was built.
He was a member of the United Lodge # 93 where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He also belonged to the Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington, and his heart was always near the Moses Creek Baptist Church in North Carolina.
Fremont is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ann & Tony Sosa and his son and daughter-in-law, Fremont Jeffrey & Julie Elizabeth Buchanan, and, all of Sedro-Woolley. His precious grandchildren, Janel Woiwod (Eric), Renee, Jason & Geoffrey Buchanan and his great-granddaughter, Gracie Rose Woiwod, who has brought him so much joy. 3 brothers, John & Claude Buchanan of Brevard, NC and Huey Buchanan of Cullowhee, NC and 2 sisters, Alice Morgan of Klamath, CA and Barbara Payne of Cape Coral, FL. Dear friends, Hod Wood, Doug & Stephanie Wood, Dan & Sherry Adams and Ann Leopard who was there when needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jonathan Axel Buchanan in 1981, a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Rose Woiwod in 2003 and his parents-in-law, Axel & Phyllis Jensen.
Memorials are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church, 324 Avon Avenue, Burlington, WA 98233 or the Moses Creek Baptist Church c/o Earl Stephens, 1562 Moses Creek Road, Cullowhee, NC 28779.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Leon Meyer of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Private family committal services with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be held prior at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. A potluck fellowship will follow the memorial services at Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley (at about 3:00 pm). Visitation is available on Monday from noon to 5 pm, on Tuesday from 9 am to 5 pm and from 7 to 8 pm and on Wednesday from 9 am to noon.

Ray L. Buchanan
Born in Cokedale, Washington on Feb. 28, 1921
Departed on Sep. 6, 2005 and resided in Sedro-Woolley, WA.

RAY L. BUCHANAN, 84, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Tuesday September 6, 2005 at Birchview Memory Care.
He was born in Cokedale, Washington on February 28, 1921, son of Leonard and Mollie (Berleson) Buchanan.
Ray was raised in the upper Skagit Valley and graduated from Concrete High School. He also attended Arizona State University while serving for the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he was a pilot. After his discharge, Ray returned to the Skagit Valley to work as a tree faller in the timber industry. He lived most of his years in the Skagit Valley where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Ray is survived by his son, Sherley Buchanan of Thompson Falls, MT. His sister, Myrtle O’Brien of Burlington, WA. 1 granddaughter, Shelly Janes of Afton, OK. 3 grandsons, Rodney Buchanan of Burlington, WA and James and Bradley Buchanan, both of Thompson Falls, MT. 9 great- granddaughters, Sarah, Khalie, Rhiley, Matheline and Molleigh Janes, Alex, Jayme, Lily and Jolia Buchanan and 1 great-grandson, Ray L. Buchanan.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, a son, David, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Graveside services will be held at the Hamilton Cemetery on Saturday September 17, 2005 at 1:30 PM with Dale Price officiating. Arrangements and services under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 12721 30th Ave. NE Suite 101 Seattle, Washington 98125 or to the charity of choice.

Dorothy Evelyn Martinson
Born in Bellingham, Washington on Jun. 25, 1921
Departed on Sep. 5, 2005 and resided in Burlington, WA.

Dorothy Evelyn “Dot” Martinson, passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 at her son’s home near Burlington, WA at the age of 84 years. She was born June 25, 1921 in Bellingham, Washington, the daughter of Arthur and Avorlee Whetchel Wood.
Dorothy moved to San Diego, CA as a young girl and resided there until returning to Sedro-Woolley in 1942. She became a nurses aide in 1959 and worked in that field with much pride and joy at various nursing homes and at United General Hospital from 1970-73. Dorothy retired as a care giver at age 80. She was a very caring person in that she took care of over 100 foster care children and also cared for over 35 unwed mothers. Dorothy was a member of the Eagles #2069 , American Legion Post #43, and she enjoyed dancing, people, her grandchildren, and dogs. She enjoyed volunteering her time to many organizations including the Humane Society. Dorothy was married to Lawrence “Smokey”Martinson in 1973 in Sedro-Woolley and he preceded her in death in 1993. She will be remembered by her family as one who was feisty and funny, never losing her sense of humor and as a caring and giving person. Dorothy will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by three sons Chuck Van Delinder and his wife Marilyn of Sedro-Woolley, Daniel Pratt and his wife Charlotte of Holladay, TN, and Robert Van Delinder and his wife Joan of Burlington and a daughter Marion Van Delinder of Buckley. A sister Colleen Haun of Arizona and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 11:00AM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Wendy Tingley of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church officiating with interment to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 9AM to 5PM and Friday evening from 7PM to 8PM at Lemley Chapel. A reception will follow the services at the home of Robert and Joan Van Delinder. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice or the Humane Society.

Thelma Rae Barkley
Born in Ray, North Dakota on Oct. 20, 1920
Departed on Sep. 3, 2005 and resided in Sedro-Woolley, WA.
Service: Thursday Sep. 8, 2005
THELMA RAE BARCLAY, 84, a long time Sedro-Woolley resident passed away on Saturday September 3, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on October 20, 1920 in Ray, North Dakota, the daughter of Fred & Isabell Ness Selk.
In 1922 she moved to Montana with her family where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Missoula High School.
In 1939 she was united in marriage to Ralph Wick in Hamilton, MT and they made their home in Missoula until 1942 when they moved to Spokane, WA. In 1950 they moved to Skagit County living in Lyman, Clear Lake and finally settling in Sedro-Woolley. Ralph preceded her in death in 1957. In 1961 she married Robert Barclay in Sedro-Woolley and together they made their home there until his death in 1998.
Thelma worked as a secretary at Stokley Van Kamp cannery in Mount Vernon for several years. She was a cub scout den mother for 2 years, a member of the Eagles Aerie 2069; she volunteered and was active with the election board in Sedro-Woolley for over 20 years; she was also active with the United General Hospital Guild where she served as Auxiliary President and volunteered many hours of her time, and she has been a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1950. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Thelma is survived by her son, Charles Ralph Wick and his wife, Donna of Sedro-Woolley, and her 2 daughters, Marcia Jean Douglas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Frances Marie Arneson of Round Rock, Texas. 1 brother, Alvin Selk of Alameda, California and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Della Rae Decker; 4 brothers, Maurice, Ralph, Bert and Lloyd Selk, 1 sister, Donna Scott and a son-in-law, John Arneson.
Memorials are suggested to the United General Hospital Guild or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley on Thursday September 8, 2005 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Walt Rice officiating.
