Laurel Zeman
Laurel Zeman passed away peacefully in her sleep July 24, 2015, at her home in the Satsop Valley. She was 90 years old. She was born on Nov. 22, 1924 in Covington, Ind. to Joe and Gladys Moore. They moved to the Colorado Mountains and later to Montesano.
Laurel married
Willis Zeman in 1943 while he was in the service.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willis, her son Terry Zeman and her daughter Cherie Narrance.
She leaves behind her oldest son Russell (Marge) Zeman, her youngest daughter Ginger (Steve) Sidor, grandchildren Russ, Dennis, Jeremy, Nichole, Kristin, Tracy, Jeff, Trevor and Kodi, 16 great-grandchildren and many other people in her life that loved her.
She was a very popular grandma, (nicknamed Gramma Cookie), because the kids could always find a fresh baked cookie at Gramma’s house. She was very loved by all of them.
There will be no service. The family will hold a private celebration of her life.
Richard John Vatne
Former McCleary Mayor Richard John Vatne passed away at his home in McCleary on Sunday, July 12, 2015. He was 74. Dick was born June 26, 1941, in Olympia, Wash., to Stanley and Agnes (Hansen) Vatne.
Dick married
Billie Sharlene Self, she passed away July 22, 2002.
Dick is survived by his son Tim Heath of Elma; a step-son Josh Mowers of Elma, two step-daughters Shawna Sturges of McCleary and Kristi Miller of Shelton; a sister Beverley Petek of Edmonds and a nephew Rich Petek of Lynwood.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., August 1 at the McCleary cemetery followed by a reception at the McCleary V.F.W.
Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.
Georgia I. DeBay
A memorial service and celebration of life for former Aberdeen resident Georgia Irene DeBay who died Feb. 12, 2015 in Salem, Ore. will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow.
Karen I. Vaughn
RAYMOND — Karen Iva Vaughn (K.I.) of Raymond died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 at home. She was 69.
Donations may be made to the Tall Elks and/or the ENF Fund.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Raymond Elks.
Cremation arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
William E. Beals Jr.
SEATTLE — Former Grays Harbor resident William Everett Beals Jr. of Port Townsend died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was 55.
Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
Frankie A. Thomas
Frankie Allen Thomas, a resident of Aberdeen, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 at his home in Aberdeen. He was 76.
He had worked as a shake sawyer and had owned his own mill, Ace Shake in Humptulips.
A celebration of his life gathering will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the South Aberdeen Baptist Church.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Helen Cunningham
Helen L. Cunningham, a resident of Ocean Shores, died Wednesday, Aug 12, 2015 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 76.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Albert J. Michalak
ELMA — Albert Joseph Michalak, a resident of Elma, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 at his home in Elma. He was 90.
He had worked as a logger and log truck driver.
A private committal service will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Phyllis J. Leavenworth-Lowell
SEATTLE — Phyllis Jane Leavenworth-Lowell of Aberdeen died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. She was 60.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harbor City Church in Aberdeen.
Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Suzanne M. Morgan
Suzanne Marie Morgan, a longtime resident of Aberdeen, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at her home in Aberdeen. She was 62,
She had managed the Dairy Queen restaurants for over 20 years before retiring. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wynooche cemetery in Montesano.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Marvin Manley
A memorial mass for longtime Montesano resident Marvin E. Manley, who died Aug. 8 in Aberdeen, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
Elizabeth “Lisa” Easter
A celebration of life for lifelong Harbor resident Elizabeth R. “Lisa” Easter, who died July 21 in Aberdeen, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the D&R Event Center in Aberdeen, near the D&R Theatre.
Arrangements are by the Fern Hill Funeral Home of Aberdeen.
Nancy Lee Wallin
Nancy Lee Wallin, age 79, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at her home with her family by her side.
Nancy was born April 6, 1936, in Westport, Wash. to William and Elsie Dietrich. Nancy graduated from Ocosta High School in 1954. On Sept. 12, 1959 she married
the love of her life, Karl A. Wallin. Karl passed away in March 2004. Together they had three sons, Eric (Diana) of Olalla, Wash.; John (Linda) of Aberdeen, Wash.; and Steven of Seattle, Wash. Nancy had three grandchildren, Chad, Ryan, and Paige, and one great-grandson, Nathan.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, mother, and her three siblings, William Dietrich, Gilbert Dietrich, and Dorothy Perry.
Nancy was a homemaker and a very hard worker. She loved working around her house and being with her family. She enjoyed gardening, and playing bunco and cards with her friends. Nancy had a big heart, always willing to help anyone in need.
Nancy’s wishes were to not have a service. Her immediate family will celebrate her life at a later date.
We would like to thank Gulke Manor Adult Family Home in Montesano, Wash., for all the special love and care they gave our mom over the last 7 months. We would not have wanted it any other way. She loved them all very much.
Mom is home now, with all her family in Westport. Until we meet again.
Phyllis Margaret Roques
Phyllis Margaret Roques, 90, a former Grays Harbor resident, died on July 16, 2015, in Puyallup. She was born on Feb. 25, 1925, in Marmarth, N.D., to Emmett K. and Florence C. (Seeley) Sheehan.
Phyllis was raised in Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High School and then worked at the National Biscuit Company in Seattle.
In 1945 she married
John J. Roques in Tacoma. He died in 1993.
They resided in Oakland, Tacoma and Copalis Beach where she worked as the hospitality director at Rod’s Beach Resort for 33 years. She moved to Lakewood in 2008.
Phyllis M. Roques is survived by her son, Patrick J. Roques of Los Angeles; her daughter, Susan M. Armezzani of Spanaway and other relatives.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, William, Arthur and Robert Sheehan; two sisters, Florence Windell and Nellie Padur and a grandson, Jayson.
The family requests donations in her name be sent to the First Baptist Church of Lakewood.
A time of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the First Baptist Church of Lakewood, 5400 - 112th Street S.W., Lakewood, WA 98499.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Jeanne Winifred Blumberg
Jeanne Winifred Blumberg, age 92, a resident of Hoquiam, died on July 27, 2015, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was born on Jan. 8, 1923, in Elma, Wash., to Albert and Mae (Taylor) Blumberg.
She had worked as a volunteer at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.
She has been married
for over 50 years to Loyal Blumberg Jr.
Surviving relatives include five sons, Richard, Mark, Don, Ron and Brad Blumberg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private urn committal will be held at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 Fifth St. in Hoquiam.
Kenneth L. Furu
Kenneth L. Furu, 51 years of age and a longtime Harborite, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in Olympia, Wash. He was born on July 8, 1964, in Aberdeen, Wash., and was the youngest son of Don and Norma Furu.
He was raised and attended school in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1983. He was a member of the Hoquiam High School track team that won the State Championship in 1983. There he placed first in the long jump and second in the high jump. His high school high jump record of 6’ 8-1/4” lasted for 25 years. He also excelled in basketball at Hoquiam High School and Grays Harbor College and was known for his ability to dunk and leap. He was a member of the 1983-84 GHC Choker basketball team that was inducted into the Choker Hall of Fame in 2011. He graduated from Western Washington University in 1988.
Ken also loved to go fishing at Lake Quinault and out of Westport.
Ken was married
to Erin McCullough in 1996, but they were later divorced.
Kenneth is survived by his mother, Norma Furu; his son, Zachary Furu; his sister, Majel Boudia (Guy); his brothers, Don Furu and Dennis Furu; his niece, Lauren Furu, and his nephews, Matt Boudia and Conner Furu. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Furu in 2013.
His family wishes to thank his devoted friends for their love and support.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge, 614 K St. with Jim Sandstrom presiding. A potluck fellowship gathering will follow.

A celebration of life for longtime East County resident Michael “Mitch” Gregoroff, who died May 4 in Olympia, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8 at the family home in Elma.
