Dale Smith
A gathering of friends and relatives with military honors for Navy veteran and former Grays Harbor Community Hospital nurse Dale B. Smith, who died at the age of 71 on Oct. 22, 2014, will be held at noon on Saturday, July 25, at Pacific Beach State Park.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Martha Alexander
WESTPORT — Martha E. Alexander, a Westport area resident for 45 years, died at her home there Tuesday, July 21, 2015. She was 96.
She had owned and operated The Sands Motel and the charter boat Maverick.
Arrangements are by the Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
Barbara J. Mayer
Longtime Grayland resident Barbara Jane Mayer died at her home on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. She was 74.
Arrangements are pending through the Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Eugene B. Klinger
MONTESANO — Longtime Montesano resident Eugene Bernard Klinger died at his home on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He was 90.
Services are being planned through the Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.
Charles D. Jameson
Charles D. Jameson, 71, of Aberdeen passed July 6, 2015. He was born on Oct. 15, 1943 to Charles and Agnes Jameson. He graduated from Friday Harbor High School in 1962. Soon after, he joined the Coast Guard, retiring in 1982.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, his best bud Cat of the family home, his children Dennis (Tammy), David, Lance (Teaya), Karen (Brian), Larry, Phyllis (Stan), his grandkids Chad, Devon, Lynsey, Nathan, Jasmin, Rebekah, Rachel, Abigail, Daphine (Jason), Dustin (Shalina), Jeremiah, Jen, Kira (John), great-grandkids Hannah, Raynor, Rothwell, Adelicia, Lorentz, Daisha, Seth, Ryana, his brother Jerry and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Mike and Brian and his sister Janice.
There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. at Harbor Assembly of God, 716 M Street, Hoquiam, Wash. Reception will follow.
Wallace Einar “Wally” Waara
Wallace Einar “Wally” Waara, 82, a resident of Grayland for more than 50 years, died at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Aberdeen, Wash., Saturday, July 18, 2015. He was born in Aberdeen on March 20, 1933, the son of Einar and Anna (Karjala) Waara.
Wally was raised on the South Beach and graduated from Ocosta High School in 1951. He was attending Grays Harbor College when he was drafted into the Army and upon his return he attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1959.
He met Lois E. Niemi, a young teacher at Weatherwax High School, and they were married
Sept. 12, 1959 in Marquette, Mich., her home town. Wally went to work for two years in Milwaukee, Wis. at Perfex Corp., a manufacturer of heat exchange equipment. He would start college again in Marquette, Mich. at Northern Michigan University where he graduated in 1963 with a Master’s in Business Administration. He returned to the Twin Harbors area to teach business courses at South Bend High School.
In 1965 he and Lois purchased a cranberry farm. They then began farming fulltime as Grower-Owners of Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. Wally continued to be active on the bogs until just a few years ago. His son, Carl, has taken over operation of the farm.
Wally served on the Board of Directors of Ocean Spray in the early 1970’s. He was a member of Twin Harbors Lutheran Church, the Raymond Elks Lodge, and the former Grayland Lions Club.
He enjoyed his life’s work, farming cranberries. He was a lifelong fan of baseball, including the Mariners. His family was important to him and he especially enjoyed anything that involved his grandson, Evan.
Wally is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois, of the family home in Grayland; a son and his wife, Carl and Liisa Waara, Grayland; and a grandson, Evan Waara.
A memorial service will be held at a future time at Twin Harbors Lutheran Church, Grayland.

Phillip Lewis Hawks
Phillip was brought into this world Aug. 22, 1963, in South Bend, Wash., by Dr. Bussabarger. Phillip “Bear” L. Hawks passed away July 20, 2015, at his home in Bay Center, Wash. He is survived by his parents Phillip A. and Clara E. Hawks, siblings Kathy and Kenny Rohr, Vicki and Glenn Killingbeck and Ray and Jerri Hawks; nephews Ryan Rohr, Eric Trent, Ethan Hawks and Chase Huizenga, Brandon and Justin Killingbeck; nieces, Kelli and Leanne Rohr and great-niece Leena. He also leaves behind a countless number of great friends and extended family and his special cat, Simone. He was a member of the Chinook Tribe.
He was an avid Seahawks fan; he wore out his first Seahawk Jersey (#80 Steve Largent) at an early age. He graduated from South Bend High School in 1981. Phillip was an outstanding football player, earning the Defensive Player of the Year award. He made it to the State Wrestling Tournament at the University of Washington. In earlier years he played Little League, Farm Team and during High School for Bud’s Termites. Phillip also enjoyed participating in South Bend High School Track.
He started working at the age of eight years old mowing lawns; he worked at Harbor Bell, worked in logging (where he earned the name (“Filthy Phil”) and in construction; commercial clam digging, and 16 years of crab fishing with his brother, Ray. Phillip enjoyed riding quads and motorcycles; most recently he enjoyed gardening. He loved taking care of people and could be counted on to help anyone who needed it. Bear had a wonderful sense of humor and he will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Bush Pioneer Park in Bay Center. Arrangements were in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
Cyril Sutton Stewart
Cyril Sutton Stewart (Uncle Jimmy), passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015, at his home in South Bend, Wash. He was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, but lived in the U.S.A. for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his niece, Marylin (Harold) Chlup of New Jersey, great-nieces Natalie Baker of New Jersey, Michele McDonald of Canada, Dominique Chlup of Texas, great-nephew Paul Chlup of Georgia, and goddaughter Mai Rutheford of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kyoko.
He was an avid reader and walker and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, world history, fishing and storytelling.
A private memorial gathering will take place soon. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
Virginia Berdine Roy
Virginia Berdine Roy was born July 20, 1917, in Seattle, Wash., to Abigail and Dudley Scott and passed away July 22, 2015, in Aberdeen, Wash., at the age of 98.
She grew up in Seattle, Port Angeles and Hoquiam.
Berdine married
Winfred M. Roy in Hoquiam on Nov. 19, 1941.
They lived in Portland, Ore. during WWII and returned to Hoquiam in 1946. In 1956 they built their Chenault Avenue home where they lived for over 50 years and raised their family.
Berdine worked for Dr. Robert Fulton until he retired, then for several other doctors, before her own retirement at the age of 84.
Berdine was predeceased by her husband, Winfred in 2011, her sisters, Velma Lundquist and Wynema Moore, and her brother, Emerson Scott.
Berdine is survived by her children, Kathleen Catalano and Richard Roy; grandchildren, Andrea Conley, Joshua Roy, Theresa Lauzis and Katherine Catalano; great- grandchildren, Ivan Conley, Emelia Conley, Donovan Roy and Robin Spinneberg; great-great-grandchildren, Sophia Spinneberg and Daryl Spinneberg Jr. and other relatives.
Berdine was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3101 Cherry Street in Hoquiam. Concluding services and interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.
Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 5th Street in Hoquiam.
David R. McAllister II
David Raeside McAllister II, passed away at the age of 89 on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at his home in Menlo. He was born and raised in Paisley, Scotland.
David married
Elizabeth McGibbon in 1951. They emigrated to Raymond from Scotland in 1953. He was preceded in death by Elizabeth in 2011. David is survived by their three children, Lyndsey and her husband David West, David R. McAllister III, and Graham and his wife Mary McAllister. He also leaves eight grandchildren Cameron (Megan) West, Ashley (Grant) Leavitt, Brandon (Marie) McAllister, Brianne (Luke) Probasco, Jared McAllister, Stacy (Justin) Lorton, Connor McAllister, and Cameron McAllister, along with nine great-grandchildren. David also has two surviving sisters Margaret (Bob) Case and Anges Storie.
David served in the British Royal Army and was stationed in India during World War II. After emigrating to Raymond, he worked as a carpenter during the construction of the Raymond Weyerhaeuser sawmill and a variety of local construction projects. He finished his professional career with Rognlin’s Inc. in Aberdeen, Wash. David was a true craftsman. He built 2 homes for his family beginning the second at the age of 70 and was the driving force in the construction each of his children’s homes. He gifted his family with many pieces of hand built furniture. David enjoyed reading and watching sports of all kinds.
He was loved by his family and will be missed.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in David’s memory to the Willapa Harbor Helping Hands at PO Box 597, South Bend, WA 98586.

Oliver Emil Riekkola
Oliver Emil Riekkola went home to meet his Savior on Aug. 11, 2015, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Aberdeen. He was born in Aberdeen on June 30, 1934, the son of Emil and Hannah (Luotonen) Riekkola.
Oliver attended McDermoth Grade School, Miller Junior High and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1953. He received a degree in education from Western Washington State College, Bellingham. He went to Moclips, teaching at Moclips/North Beach High School for 30 years.
He played basketball and baseball throughout high school and college. He was also an avid steelhead fisherman and loved to fish from the bank with his sons Reg and Randy and life-long friend Harold Bergstrom.
Oliver coached both junior high and high school sports, but favored varsity golf and summer baseball.
He owned a dump truck and a backhoe and did summer jobs to stipend his teaching salary for his family of 6. In 1987, he and his sons formed Riekkola Construction. They primarily built logging roads for many years before Oliver retired in 1999. He spent much of his retirement pursuing the return of American POWS and received an award from the U.S. Marine Corps for his efforts.
Oliver is survived by his wife of 60 years, Colleen, at the family home in Aberdeen. He is also survived by a daughter Karen and son-in-law Doug Hussey, Poulsbo, Wash.; a son Reginald, Moclips, and a son Randolph and his wife, Stephani, Moclips; granddaughters: Krista, Rebecca, Rylee and Caylynne; and grandsons: Stan Crise and Christopher and Benjamin Poths; and numerous cousins living in Finland. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a daughter, Teresa Poths.
A celebration of Oliver’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Hoquiam. Pastor Mark Eaton of the Pacific Beach Community Church, will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. Inurnment will have taken place in Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

Evelyn Irene (Olson) Wilson
Evelyn Irene (Olson) Wilson passed away Aug. 11, 2015 at the Willapa Harbor Rehabilitation Center in Raymond. She was born Aug. 10, 1932, at the family home to parents Margaret (DeBord) and Fred ‘Perk’ Olson in South Bend, Wash., the same house that her father was born in.
Evelyn was a South Bend High School graduate class of 1950. She married
at her grandmother’s home in South Bend to Robert Wilson on July 1, 1950, and moved to Raymond, Wash.
She gave birth to her two children in 1951, a daughter Michele (Shelly) Wilson Richey (Mike Richey) in February and son Michael Wilson (Becky) in December.
Evelyn is also survived by five grandchildren: Robert Richey, Shannon (Scott) Coty, , Trevor (Shannon) Wilson, Lacey Wilson, Jayden (Abby) Wilson and five great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kaden and Colt Coty, Oliver and Fiona Wilson.
Evelyn sold Avon Products for several years and in December of 1964 she was interviewed for the position of traveling manger. She told Helen Davis (Davis Reality) that she would be leaving the area for her new job when Helen looked at her and said “You don’t want to leave our area. You should buy the ten cent store (that had been Meredith’s then Major’s Variety) and by April she and her mother, Margaret Olson opened Olson’s Variety located in the Lumber Exchange Building. In 1975 Evelyn, Margaret, and now Evelyn’s daughter Michele Richey moved their business into the new store they had built on the corner of Central Ave. and Robert Bush Drive (Highway 101), they continued in business until 2002.
During Evelyn’s spare time she was involved in the Lutheran Church (as Sunday School teacher and later on the church board as president, member) PTA, 4-H, Boys Scouts, Booster Club, Sunshine Group, charter member of the South Bend Eagles Auxiliary (all the offices and secretary for many years) Lady of the Elks, American Legion, Raymond Lions Club, the Pacific County Historical Society, Pacific County Fair, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, South Bend Chamber member where she held officer, president and secretary positions, South Bend’s Person of the Year (1974), 5 years as Raymond’s Commission of Finance, a 10 year member of Raymond’s City Planning Commission, Interim mayor of the City of Raymond for a 3 month reign, (to this date the only female to hold that position)! Pacific County Economic Board, she helped to create South Bend’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas potluck, worked the ham Bingos and Banner Days in South Bend. She was an avid Pinochle player belonging to 2 different pinochle groups; chairman of Come and Play on Labor Day for 20 years, also involved in the South Bend Oyster Stampede, in 1997 received the Iron Anchor Award for Extraordinary Achievement, received the Democrat of the Year Award in 2002, member of the O3A (Olympic Area Agency on Aging) Grand Marshall of Labor Day.
Evelyn enjoyed her time with her family (organizing many family and friend reunions and just plain old get-togethers) her Friday night dinners at the Elks, Seattle plays, and of course her cruises and trips.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Raymond Elks Club on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 1 p.m. for her family and many friends, please bring your many memories and stories of Evelyn. Cremation arrangements were in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
Bobbye Replogle
On Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, Bobbye Replogle, 63, from Centralia, Wash. was unexpectedly called home. This beautiful angel who was called to heaven was a beloved sister, mother and aunt and will now be a guardian angel. The family’s hearts are filled with sadness, but overflow with everlasting memories of an unforgettable woman. You will be missed, but never in a lifetime forgotten.
Bobbye was loved by many and at one point in time or another, she was there for each member of her family when they needed her. Her family describes her as a beautiful, independent, sassy, strong woman who had a lot of fight in her and the kind of person little girls wanted to be just like when they grew up.
Bobbye was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Jean, her son Terry and sister Margie. She is survived by her brother Leon, three sisters Phyllis, Donna and Linda and numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, her husband Tom, numerous friends and her dog Lucy.

Earl Kent Simpson
Earl Kent Simpson of Montesano, Wash., passed away July 19, 2015, at the age of 84. He was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Clarksdale, Mo., Earl was a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Air Force and worked at Boeing for more than 32 years. A beloved father and devoted husband of 55 years, Earl lived with determination and humor.
He leaves behind his wife Mary (married
April 3, 1960), daughter Lorie (husband Ric), grandsons Casey, Dustin and Brandon (wife Joanne), great-granddaughter Violet, daughter Lisa (husband Jim), grandson Nathan and granddaughter Katelynn.
