Jerry G. West
Jerry G. West, 86, passed away May 15, 2015, in Olympia, Wash. He was born Sept. 3, 1928, to Clifford and Minnie (Stuber) West in Aberdeen, Wash. A 60-year resident of Central Park, Wash., he lived the last 25 years (1990-2015) at Lost Lake in the house he built himself.
Jerry attended high school in Aberdeen from 1944 to Jan. 15, 1946, when he left school to join the U.S. Navy; he had enough credits, however, to get his diploma. Jerry served in the Navy until Nov. 4, 1947, as a Fireman First Class aboard the USS Prinz Eugen, USS Osbourn and USS Theodore E. Chandler in the South Pacific, China and Japan. He participated in Operation Crossroads with Joint Task Force One Atomic Bomb test.
After his military service, he married
Valgene Rene Krueger on June 9, 1949, in Aberdeen.
Professionally, Jerry started work at ITT Rayonier on Jan. 1, 1948, and became an electrician and motor repairman. He retired in 1989, after 41 years. He also roofed houses for Sears and was a mechanic for Duane Dewees Auto in Aberdeen.
Jerry was a Jack-of-All-Trades and master of most. He was not one to sit idle. He was always working on something of his or something belonging to family or friends. He loved to build houses and help others remodel their homes. A member of Aberdeen Elks 593, he was always helping them out and was appointed to oversee their building remodel. He was named Elk of the Year 2001-2002.
Jerry enjoyed boxing. As a teenager, he trained in the Aberdeen gym of professional boxer and middle weight world champion, Freddie Steele, and while in the Navy, he fought with the USN “Smokers.” Jerry also loved camping, fishing and family vacations. Later he took dancing lessons with Val and would dance on the weekends.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Gordon West and Mark (Julie) West; sister, Thelma Emerick; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Valgene West; son, Mike West; daughter-in-law, Vicki West; and brother, Dick West.

Winona Emily (Charron) Brower
Winona Emily Charron Brower, “Nonie” passed away on May 23, 2015. She was 99 years old. Nonie was born on April 16, 1916, to Joseph and Eva (Boileau) Charron from South Bend, Wash. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1936.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted and her son Richard. Nonie also had five sisters Ida, Delma, Bertha, Blanche, Eva and her brother Eddie.
Surviving family are her sons Comet Theodore Jr. and his wife BJ, and Jerry Edward Brower, granddaughters Kellie, Stacey, Rayna and Megan, grandsons Comet III, Jerry Jr. and Richard Jr., along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Nonie loved golfing, gardening, crewel, tatting and needlepoint. She had a strong appreciation for music where she sang with the Aqua Notes music group and performed at various nursing homes. Nonie also enjoyed dancing with her nephew Clyde Ellis.
Nonie was involved with the Cosmopolis Rebekah Lodge No. 36 Noble Grand, Tanamaka Club, President of the YMCA Auxiliary #5 and #7, and the Red Cross (She drove an ambulance for the Evening Watch Tower during World War II!)
She was very dedicated and proud to be an Avon sales representative for 38 years.
Nonie’s favorite quotes were: “Her mama always told her she was born hungry” and “Life is what you make it”.
Special thanks go out to Sue Homchick for including her in all of the holiday gatherings and Saturday visits at her home. A special “Thank You” to Ron Giuntoli for all of the Friday night gatherings with friends. Special appreciations are sent to the wonderful neighbors, Dr. Scott, his wife Aries and daughter Judy Mae Wright who visited often and brought their dog Molly, such great medicine. Jeri Bell for all the fancy cookies that you made and brought over. Dr. Mel Strange for all of his loving care and compassion. The family would also like to recognize Nonie’s caregivers, who took such loving care of her; Judy (her niece), Betty, Eileen, Marlene, Darlene, and Cleo.
Nonie’s service will be held on June 4, 2015, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 306 E. 3rd St, Aberdeen, WA 98520. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the service. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall.
Donations can be made to St Mary’s Church in Aberdeen and the Hoquiam YMCA in honor of Winona Brower.
Ellen Ann Yunker
Ellen Ann Yunker, at age 93, passed away to be with our Lord on May 16, 2015, surrounded by family members at Providence St Peter hospital in Olympia, Wash. Ellen was born on Dec. 19, 1921, to George and Esther Ross in Hilo, Hawaii, and enjoyed her childhood years in Hakalau.
Ellen had an exceptional childhood growing up in Hawaii. She graduated from Hilo High School and subsequently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon. She then met Albert Yunker after the end of World War II and they were married
on July 27, 1946, in Portland, Ore.
Ellen and Albert spent their early married
life in Butte, Mont., and on the Oregon coast near Toledo. They then moved with their young family to Clearwater, Wash., where they made their home until 1968 operating the Ranch Motel. Ellen was a very positive force in our lives teaching commitment, dedication and perseverance.
In 1968 a move was made to Long Beach, Wash., where Ellen and Albert operated the Driftwood Trailer Park and Motel for 20 plus years. Ellen thoroughly enjoyed the many outdoor opportunities in Long Beach, which included fishing, razor clam digging and mushroom hunting.
In their final years, Ellen and Albert enjoyed traveling which included trips to Europe, Papua New Guinea, Australia and Hawaii.
Ellen is survived by daughters Kathleen Quirico and Jimmy Herr, (grandchildren Kimberly, Tommy, and Brandie), Linda and Ron Britton, (grandson Jesse), April and Craig Hawkinson (grandchildren Lisa and Craig); sons David and Diann Yunker (grandchildren Kristen, Joshua, Kyle, and Ashley) Ralph and Gayle Yunker (grandsons Mathew and Mitchell), Leslie Yunker (granddaughter Elyssa, stepson Ryan), Albert and Donna Yunker (granddaughter Daneal), and Paul Yunker. Her great grandchildren are Kyler, Makenna, Emma; Maya, Marisa, Conrad; Makizine, Zadia, Declan; Stella, Finley; Hailey, Maia, Jaelyn.
Ellen was a very strong woman deeply loved by her family. She had a heart of immense generosity and was always there for our needs. Her ability to learn new things, play the piano, make the most succulent smoked salmon, artistic abilities and many talents will be most deeply missed. She was truly a great example of a woman to follow.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Pacific Bible Church, 501 US Highway 101, Ilwaco, WA at 1:30 p.m.
Elaine McDonald
Elaine McDonald, 86, passed away May 27, 2015, at Grays Harbor Health & Rehab Center in Aberdeen.
She was born on Jan. 11, 1929, in Aberdeen to Cleo and Jessie Larson. She grew up in North Cove and graduated from Ocosta High School in 1947.
Elaine is survived by her sons Cliff and wife Debbie of Ocosta and Tim of Westport; daughter Christine of Grayland; Sisters Bettie Garbe of Aberdeen, Shirley Patterson of Battleground and a brother Terry Larson of Tokeland. Elaine has eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John, grandson Jeff, daughter-in-law Janet, son-in-law Gary and a sister Geri Ingraham.
Elaine was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Westport VFW Post 3057. She enjoyed gardening, being with family and friends.
Per her request, there will be no services. She will be inurned next to her husband at Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

Joy L. Thrasher
OLYMPIA — Joy Lynn Thrasher of Copalis Crossing died Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 63.
Cremation arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Glenn M. Hewitt Jr.
TACOMA — Glenn Monroe Hewitt Jr., a South Bend resident, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Avamere at Pacific Ridge in Tacoma. He was 86.
Glenn retired in 1987 after 30 years working for the Bureau of Reclamation and Bonneville Power Administration.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

James Presswood
James C. Presswood, a Harborite all of his life, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen. He was 54.
He was a correctional officer at Stafford Creek Correctional Center,
A potluck celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at the cookhouse shelter at Stewart Park on North B Street in Aberdeen.

Burton L. Kearney
Burton LeRoy Kearney, a lifelong East County resident, died Friday, May 22, 2015 in Aberdeen. He was 70.
He worked for White Star and Simpson Lumber and had his own carpet cleaning business that he still operated at the time of his death.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Olympic Christian Center in McCleary.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Connie (Beeman) Olvera
Connie (Beeman) Olvera died Tuesday May 26, 2015 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She was 63.
A celebration of her life and potluck will take place at noon Sunday at Wynooche Wildwood Park in Montesano

Larry Lee Gay
Larry Lee Gay, 57 years of age and a longtime Harborite, died on Friday, May 22, 2015, at his home in Tumwater, Wash., following an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 15, 1957, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Donald Dwayne and Barbara J. (Swann) Gay. Larry had an older brother, Don and a younger sister, Kathy.
He attended school in Hoquiam where he belonged to the drama club and enjoyed participating in plays.
Larry was married
to Tracy Badgely on Dec. 4, 1981, with whom he shared three children, Kristi Fall, Eric Gay and Steven Gay. Larry is survived by all three of his children and 11 grandchildren. Larry was a much loved father, grandfather and friend who will be truly missed. He was married
to Linda Braaten in Tumwater, Wash. on June 26, 2012.
He was known for his many years of work with Wonder Bread. Larry enjoyed attending music concerts, sporting events and celebrating the Fourth of July. He will be remembered by many for his sense of humor and outgoing personality that brought joy and laughter to anyone who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel in Hoquiam with Rev. Kenneth Middleton officiating. The service will conclude at the chapel with a potluck for family and friends to follow.
He will be laid to rest close to other family members at the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

Glenn Paul Hoot, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Glenn Paul Hoot, age 58, of Aberdeen passed away of a heart attack, Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Glenn was born to William and Gloria Hoot in south Texas in 1956, the youngest of three sons. Growing up in Houston he was a diligent student, graduating as valedictorian in high school. His B.A. degree in biology was obtained at Rice University in Houston in 1978, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his M.D. degree at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1987. He continued graduate education at Southwestern, obtaining Ph.D. in cellular immunology in 1991. He completed medical residency in ophthalmology in Albany, N.Y. in 1994. Since 1994 he practiced ophthalmology as owner of Aberdeen Cataract and Laser Center. He was a caring physician, going the extra mile for his patients.
He is survived by brothers Bill (Jane) Hoot and Steve (Tonya) Hoot, along with their children in Texas. Glenn was predeceased by his parents.
He was loved and will be missed by his staff, his patients, friends, family and the Grays Harbor medical community.
A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held at a later date.
Ida Belle Heggie (Vincent)
Ida Belle Heggie (Vincent) passed away on Nov. 9, 2014, at home with family in Aberdeen.
Ida was born on Oct. 8, 1931, in Elgin, Ill. to David and Florence Vincent (Annis). She was the sixth of 12 children born to her parents. When Ida was young, her family moved to Bemidji, Minn. where she graduated high school in 1951. On July 29, 1953, she married
Lynn Heggie in Port Angeles, Wash., who preceded her in death.
Ida will be remembered for her hard work, love of coffee, cookies and M&M’s, and her love of family. Ida loved taking care of people, being outdoors, observing the weather and reading the newspaper daily. She always looked forward to the monthly birthday club put on by dear friend, Dorothy Mann.
Ida leaves behind daughters Cheryl Miller, Sandra (Dan) Canfield, ex-son in law Larry Miller, grandsons Jason (Sioux) Canfield and Aaron (Jessica) Canfield, granddaughters Kayla (Tyson) Dunlap and Ashley (Kenny) Lam, adopted grandsons Josh (Yakhsha) Benz and Jared (Tara) Benz, nine great-grandchildren, special friend Patricia Marbut, and siblings Gem Kerr, Avis Kelm, Marge Hirt, Charles Vincent and Grace Olsen of Bemidji, Minn., Charlotte McDonald of Laporte, Minn., Calvin Vincent of Hannaford, N.D., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her brothers Russell and Tom Vincent and sister Lucile Wright preceded her in death, and her brother James “Butch” Vincent passed away in February 2015.
A celebration of Ida’s life will be held on Friday, June 26, from 2-4 p.m. at the Port of Grays Harbor Commission Chambers, 111 S. Wooding Street, in Aberdeen. Ida’s Family would like to thank the incredible staff at Harbor Health and Hospice for their loving care and support for Ida and our family.
Alfred Lee “Al” Izatt
Alfred Lee “Al” Izatt, 89 years of age and a longtime Hoquiam resident, died on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at his home in Hoquiam. Al was born on April 16, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., to William and Bernadette (Toussaint) Izatt.
His family moved to Bellingham, Wash., when he was five years of age. He attended grade school in Bellingham, Oregon and California. His family then moved to Everett, where he graduated from Everett High School in 1944.
He enlisted into the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 through 1945. While in Okinawa he was injured while serving aboard a Naval Escort during a depth charge exercise. He returned to Everett and joined the Merchant Marine, where he traveled to many countries.
Al was married
to Marilyn Jean Temmermand on Sept. 1, 1951, in the First Baptist Church of Everett by Reverend Elroy Shikles. They resided in Everett until moving to Elma in 1965 and then to their present Hoquiam family home in 1968 where he had since resided.
While in Everett he worked at Lawrence Radio for several years and he attended Everett Junior College and then the University of Washington where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, all while the couple raised their four boys. After coming to the harbor area he taught at the Grays Harbor College, for 26 years, teaching electronics, math and engineering. He retired from there in 1991. After 1991, he taught numerous night classes.
He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. Al was presented with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, the highest distinguished service award that a volunteer can receive.
He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club. He transported blood for the American Red Cross and while serving them for over 16 years he was awarded the Special Citation for Exceptional Volunteer Service for the thousands of hours he gave.
Al was a member of the City of Hoquiam Board of Adjustment and a City Councilman. He served as Council President and Mayor Pro-Tem. Al served on various boards to include the Public Safety Board and was a strong advocate and highly instrumental in bringing Enhanced 911 to the harbor. He and Sheriff Dennis Morrisette had traveled to other area facilities to acquire the best information and choice of equipment that could serve and protect this community. He was a Civil Service Commissioner for the Grays Harbor County, for more than 23 years, the longest tenure in Grays Harbor History.
He had also been a sky diver, making jumps with all of his four sons, truly a fun experience.
Al dedicated his life to family, community and country. He rarely missed any sporting events or programs his children and grandchildren participated in. He had coached Little League Baseball in Everett and Hoquiam. Al had a lasting impact on his family and students through the years all of them will miss him. In 1965, his family enjoyed a trip of their lifetime on their road trip across the whole of the United States.
Al is survived by his wife, Marilyn Izatt of the Hoquiam family home; four sons, Mike Izatt and Mark Izatt both of Hoquiam, Matt Izatt and Jay Izatt (Sheri) of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Jeff Izatt (Megan), Kami Sauer (Ricky) of Hoquiam, Dustin Izatt of Seattle, Jacob Izatt and Tyler Izatt of Aberdeen; two great grandchildren, Kayte Sauer and Cody Sauer of Hoquiam; brothers-in-law, Jim Temmermand of New Jersey, Jim Friday of Michigan, a special niece, Ellen Gifford of California, a special nephew, Tom Freeman (Mona) of Granite Falls, other nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule Street in Hoquiam, with Pastor W. Kent Gravley officiating. The service will conclude at the church. Immediately following there will be a potluck gathering for family and friends. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to wear their Husky attire.
