Hugh W. Sneed
April 7, 1926 - March 28, 2015
Born in Wenatchee, Wash., Hugh moved to Aberdeen, Wash., when he was 7 years old. He grew up during the Depression, peeling cascara bark and working on his Uncle’s farm in Eastern Washington to help the family finances and pay for school clothing. Hugh had strong Christian values that guided him throughout his entire life.
At 17, prior to finishing high school, Hugh enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country during WWII as a BM2c in the Pacific Campaign. He returned home from the South Pacific on the USS General Harry Taylor in April 1945, and was on leave in Aberdeen, Wash. when the war ended in Europe (May 1945). He completed the remainder of his Naval service on Indian Island in Puget Sound. During this time, Hugh completed high school and graduated with the Aberdeen High School Class of 1945. Throughout his life, he would return to Aberdeen for their class reunions.
After the war, Hugh worked for AMC theaters and Washington Co-op. In 1946, through their shared and life long friend Betty Worthley, he met his soul mate Lois B. Cooper. To his amazement, Lois was the same girl he had seen when he was 10 years old and had declared to his best friend that he would marry that girl some day. Hugh and Lois married
on June 24, 1949 and shared 61 wonderful years together. In 1953, they moved to San Jose, Calif. where they raised their four children.
Hugh’s early career in California was as a carpenter and superintendent for the EA Hathaway & Wayne Pendergraft Construction Companies. During this time he supervised the building of nine schools, four medical buildings, and two commercial buildings. In 1976, he established the Hugh W. Sneed Construction Company where he built several custom homes and had contracts with Lockheed Martin and United Technologies. He retired in April 1991.
In 2004, Hugh and Lois moved to their Ranch in San Andreas, Calif., a place he called “God’s Country.” Hugh was devoted to his family, immediate and extended, and always tried to ensure that their every need was taken care of. He was a Scoutmaster, Little League manager, golfing instructor, fishing teacher, math tutor, and anything else they required. He enjoyed traveling, cruising, spending time outdoors, taking care of his horses, spending time with lifelong friends (The Worthleys and The Spragues) and making new friends. However, his greatest enjoyment was taking care of and sharing his life with his sole mate Lois.
On March 28, 2015, at the age of 88, Hugh was called to be with our lord, his soul mate Lois (2010) and his older brother Elwyn (2011). He is survived by his four children: Gary (Diane) Sneed, Ronald (Renee) Sneed, Sharon (Andreas) Goedde, and Sandra (John) Lococo; six grandsons: Ryan Sneed, Sean (Lehua) Sneed, Erik (Megan) Telstad, Christopher Lococo, Scott (Michelle) Telstad, and Matthew Sneed; his younger sister Eva (Jim) Calhoun and younger brother Gilbert (Sydna) Reed. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
He touched the lives of many people and will be remembered as a strong, independent, loving, caring and generous person who did things his way. He was the rock and foundation of his family, and although not physically with them, he will live on in their hearts and souls.
The family held a private celebration of his life at Sneed Ranch on May 2.

She was an excellent seamstress and knitter and had a gift for growing plants both in and out of doors. She loved spending time with all her family.
