Laurie Ann Murphy of Aberdeen died at her home on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014 . She was 59.

A graveside service is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Kenneth Snow Sr.

A celebration of life for Amanda Park resident Kenneth R. Snow Sr., who died Dec. 1 in Aberdeen, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Quinault Valley Chapel in Neilton.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Lake Quinault Volunteer Fire Department.

LaVerne Meldrich

LaVerne Meldrich of Aberdeen died at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014. She was 88.

Arrangements are by the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Draxie Nichols

CENTRALIA — Former South Bend resident Draxie Nichols of Centralia died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in Centralia. She was 87.

A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond, followed by burial at Menlo cemetery and a potluck luncheon at the Crossroads Church in Raymond.

Leah M. Wilson

SEATTLE — Leah Marie Wilson, a lifelong resident of the Harbor, died at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014. She was 62.

She had been a stay-at-home mom and also a housekeeper for Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam.

A potluck celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the United Christian Church in Aberdeen.

Arrangements are by the Fern Hill Funeral Home of Aberdeen.

DeLila “Dee” Thorp

OLYMPIA — Aberdeen resident DeLila Jo “Dee” Strickland Thorp died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 72.

She worked for Harbors Home Health & Hospice in Hoquiam for 30 years and retired on Dec. 31, 2011.

A celebration of her life service is to be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. A reception will follow in the Church Social Hall.

A complete obituary will appear in Thursday’s edition of The Daily World.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Virginia L. Holt

Virginia Lorraine Holt, a resident of Hoquiam, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. She was 82.

A private family gathering was held.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Gladys A. Schuldt

Gladys A. Schuldt, 95, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Saturday, March 28, 2015. She was born in Lakefield, Minn., on July 1, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Esther (Streed) Johnson.

She graduated from Lakefield High School and had lived in Oakland, Calif. before coming to Aberdeen in 1946. She married Verne Schuldt in Aberdeen on Nov. 3, 1946, and he died here Aug. 15, 2009.

Gladys had worked for the Washington State Employment Security Department as an interviewer and retired in 1980. After her retirement they traveled to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Aberdeen as long as she was able. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery and working with flowers.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Rupp of East Wenatchee, Wash., and Marilyn (Eric) Cummings of Oregon City, Ore.; a sister, Vernice Regan of Magalia, Calif.; and also two grandchidren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Kenneth, Alfred, Wallace, David, Merton and Everett Johnson. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Reverend Dan Vines will officiate. Vault interment will take place in Fern Hill cemetery.

Carolyn S. “Sue” Kistler

Carolyn S. “Sue” Kistler, 73, a Harbor resident for nearly 40 years, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Thursday, March 26, 2015. Sue was born in Kansas, Okla., on June 1, 1941, the daughter of Marion and Opal (Sarten) Riggins. She had moved to Tulsa, Okla., where she graduated from Central High School in 1959.

Sue was married to Wayne E. Lewis in Tulsa in 1962 and they would divorce in 1968. She then was married to Harry J. Kistler in Tulsa in 1969, coming to the Harbor in 1977. They would divorce in 1979. She had worked as a waitress at Colonial West Restaurant on Hwy. 101 in Hoquiam and also at Denny’s in Aberdeen.

She had lived in Hillsboro, Ore., where she had been a waitress at Elmer’s Pancake House, serving her customers always with a smile and making many close friends in the process. Returning to the Harbor in 2005 to be closer to her family.

Once retired, she had worked with the Senior Companion Volunteers in Hoquiam and had attended the United Christian Church in Aberdeen. She enjoyed remodeling houses, doing the tear-down, drywall and woodworking chores through living in the home only to find another house to work on. Helping her on these many remodels was her life companion, Ed Orth, who was a lifetime Harbor resident. He died in 2010.

Sue is survived by four sons, David and Dan Lewis, both of Aberdeen, Pat and Scott (Beth) Kistler, both of Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving is Mike Orth of Aberdeen, who she considered a son from her relationship with Ed; and one daughter, Danita (Kurt) Ludwig of Cosmopolis; a brother, Bob Riggins of Roy, Wash.; and also five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sue had a strong love for others, often sacrificing her needs for others. She always had a smile on her face and that was abundant whenever she had her family around.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at the United Christian Church, 300 W. First St., Aberdeen.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Sheila Kay Bossard

Longtime Harbor resident Sheila Kay Bossard, 69, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Sunday, April 5, 2015. Sheila was born in Kearney, Neb., on Sept. 22, 1945, the daughter of Ralph and Josephine (Carlson) Sisson.

With her family she moved to Culver City, Calif. She was married to Lawrence Michael Bossard in Culver City, Calif., on Feb. 14, 1963, and they came to Aberdeen in 1965.

Sheila had worked a few other jobs before starting her job as a housekeeper at Grays Harbor Community Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 2013.

She enjoyed crafts and liked to collect chicken figurines. She also loved going to the casino.

Besides her husband Larry, Sheila is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Roland) Waldo of Aberdeen and Julie (Steve) Stockinger of Roy, Wash.; two brothers, Ed Sisson of Grand Junction, Neb., and Bob Sisson of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Sheila’s life for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Conference Room C. It will be a potluck and bring your best story.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Frances Anderson Tanner

Frances Anderson Tanner passed away peacefully on March 15, 2015, her 92nd birthday. She was born to George Edgar and Frances Anderson in Aberdeen, Wash. She graduated from Weatherwax High School and the University of Oregon with a degree in geology. After college she worked in the anatomy department at Stanford University where she met Donald C. Tanner, the love of her life, then a first year medical student. They married Dec. 27, 1947, and moved to Bellevue, Wash., in 1955 where they lived until Donald’s death in 1999 when she moved to Mercer Island.

Fran, as she was known to family and friends, was involved with family and active at St. Thomas and All Saints Episcopal Churches in Bellevue and later at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Mercer Island.

Fran is survived by her sons Donald and Stephen Tanner, her daughters Frances Tanner and Shelley Sage, her brother George Edgar Anderson, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 64th Avenue SE, Mercer Island.

Paul H. Kunkle

A graveside service for longtime Wishkah Valley resident Paul Howard Kunkle, who died March 30 in Seattle, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the St. John’s cemetery, Wishkah Valley. A celebration of his life will follow at noon in the Wishkah Valley Community Church with a potluck reception.

Arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Carol Ann Traversie

SEATTLE — Carol Ann Traversie of Ocean Shores died on March 19, 2015, in Seattle. She was 70.

A memorial service will be Saturday, April 11, at the Faith Community Church, 240 Canal Drive SE in Ocean Shores.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Sheila K. Bossard

Sheila Kay Bossard, a longtime resident of the Harbor, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was 69.

She had worked at the hospital as a housekeeper for 26 years.

A memorial gathering is being planned and will be announced with a more complete notice in The Daily World.

Cremation arrangements are by the Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Charles A. Chafin

GRAYLAND — Longtime Grayland resident Charles Albert Chafin died on Friday, April 3, 2015, at his home in Grayland. He was 57.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Gerald L. Stajcar

A celebration of life for former Humptulips resident Gerald Lee Stajcar, who died Feb. 21, 2015, at Montesano Health & Rehab Center in Montesano, is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at the Cosmopolis Lions Club.

Cremation arrangements were by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Carol “Jeannie” Lindstrom

Carol “Jeannie” Lindstrom, 74 years of age and a longtime Hoquiam resident, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, in Aberdeen. She was born on May 30, 1940, in Bordulac, N.D., to John and Mabel (Kollman) Marlow. She was raised on the family farm at Bordulac. She came to Hoquiam when she was 9 years of age and attended the Hoquiam schools.

In 1956, she married Charlie Jones and they were later divorced. She married Robert W. Lindstrom in 1985.

Jeannie had worked as a waitress throughout Grays Harbor and also at the Grays Harbor Veneer Plant.

She was a member of the Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam where she assisted in many of the church functions to include being a sacristan, helping at coffee hours and Knight of Columbus functions. She loved working at Feed The Hungry.

Jeannie had enjoyed quilting, and was a member of a C. B. Club, having her handle of “Blue Angel”. She spent her honeymoon with Robert in Germany and other parts of Europe. They had taken a Caribbean Cruise, traveled to Hawaii and traveled across the entire United States. Her door was always open to her family and friends and she truly loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Carol Jean Lindstrom is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Prall (Gary) of Fountain, Colo., and Penny Bertelsen (Jim) of Aberdeen, Wash.; one sister, Veronica Bowers (Arnold) of Hoquiam, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Marlow and Trenna Marlow; four grandchildren, Lucas Prall, Courtney Prall, Tom Bertelsen and Alicia Bertelsen; six great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by two brothers, and seven sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the “Feed The Hungry”, P.O. Box 1734, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015, and Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam with Father Steve Roman as the presiding celebrant. Concluding service with vault interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5 th Street in Hoquiam, Wash.

Rollin Lawrence Hurd DDS

Rollin Lawrence Hurd DDS, 89, of Kirkland, went peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior, Tuesday, March 31, 2015, surrounded by his four daughters. He was born July 23, 1925 in Hoquiam, Wash., to the late Rollin Edgar Hurd and Blanche Ada (Coffield) Hurd Crandall.

In June 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Carolyn Cleaver who preceded him in death in 2007.

In his younger years he enjoyed riding his bike which he rode around the Olympic Peninsula loop, running track where he set a record for the mile in High School and playing on his high school state championship basketball team. Rollin was a United States Army veteran of WW II, serving as a combat medic with the 42nd Rainbow Division in Europe. At one time during his tour he was trapped behind enemy lines and reported as MIA.

He graduated from the University of Washington in the school of Dentistry which he practiced in Kirkland for 40 years. Rollin was in the Lions Club of Kirkland and enjoyed basketball, playing bridge, golfing and had a passion for writing, having authored four books. He enjoyed meeting for coffee with his family on Wednesdays, going out for a meal which most likely included hot chocolate with whip cream and spending time at the ocean.

Rollin is survived by his four daughters, Nancy Zombro (Jim), Lisa Bate (Brian), Laurie Davies (Roger) and Jane Krpan (Dan); nine grandchildren, Mark Tellvik (Emily), Michael Tellvik (Laci), Jonathan Bate (Kaitlyn), Mary Phillips (Shannon), Michael Bate, Jeffrey Davies (Victoria), Julianne Diaz (Juan), Nick Krpan, Adam Krpan and twelve great-grandchildren, Caden, Ashton, Edyn, Tristan, Rosemary, Eli, Elle, Evan, Melia, Kayla, Tiago and Faith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edgar W. Hurd.

We will have a celebration of Rollin’s life Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at LifeBridge Church, 11725 NE 118th St, Kirkland, 98034.

In lieu of flowers you may send a donation in his name to the Gene and Irene Wockner Hospice Center, 12822 124th Lane, Kirkland, 98034 for the kind and excellent care both of our parents received there.
