Nancy M. Hagara
Lifelong Grays Harbor resident Nancy Mae Hagara died at her home in Aberdeen on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. She was 66.
A celebration of her life is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Cosmopolis Lions Club.
Arrangements were by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
Sharon Eaton
Sharon Eaton, a longtime resident of Pacific Beach and Hoquiam, died at her home in Hoquiam on Thursday, March 3, 2016. She was 57.
She had worked as an LPN for Grays Harbor Community Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and for Dr. H.M. Johnson for over 20 years.
A service is being planned and will be announced in a later edition of The Daily World.
Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Floyd A. Phernetton
Floyd Amos Phernetton, a resident of Westport, passed away on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. He was 82. Floyd was born on April 11, 1933 in South Bend, Wash. to William and Alice (Strong) Phernetton. He moved to Westport at the age of 12.
On May 15, 1954 he married
Persis Brower in Aberdeen, Wash. She survives him at the family home.
Floyd was a very skilled carpenter and was inducted as a honorary member of the Carpenter’s Union in June 2013.
Floyd was an avid outdoorsman, who loved camping, hunting, fishing, mushroom foraging and sharing his enthusiasm of nature with family and friends. His hobbies included woodworking, furniture building, vegetable gardening and volunteering at the Westport South Beach Senior Center and at his church.
In addition to his wife, Floyd is survived by his daughters Carrie Pink of Aberdeen, Wash.; and Kristy Nagle of Kirkland, Wash. He was preceded in death by his son Danny Phernetton, brother William Phernetton, and his sister Betty Bearden.
The family asks that memorial contributions in Floyd’s honor be made to the Westport South Beach Senior Citizen Center: PO Box 1072, Westport, WA 98595. Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Kevin K. Fredrickson
Kevin Kelly Fredrickson, 48, longtime Oakville resident and foreman for Rognlin’s Inc. in Aberdeen, died Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 2016, at his home outside Oakville, Wash.
Kevin was born on March 30, 1967, in Olympia to Neill N. and Harriet R. (Einert) Fredrickson. He lived in McCleary for a while before moving to Oakville, where he graduated from Oakville High School in 1986. He then went to work as a logger and then went to Bates Voc-Tech in Tacoma, Wash. where he supplemented his apprenticeship as a Millwright. He went to work for Mayr Brothers and then for Rognlin’s in 1996 where he has worked until his passing.
On Sept. 7, 1991, Kevin married
Renee L. Everson in Malone, Wash. She resides at the family home.
Kevin was a long time member of the Carpenters Union and IAM. In the past Kevin was a volunteer firefighter with District #5. He loved hunting in Montana, duck hunting with his dog, fishing, clam digging with his family and hitting the dunes with his ATV’s. On the weekends you could find him having coffee at Jag’s.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 24 years, Renee Fredrickson of Oakville; mother Harriet Fredrickson of Oakville; son, Carter Fredrickson and daughter Kyla Fredrickson of Oakville; brother, Roy Fredrickson of Oakville; sisters: Jolene Rabey of Oakville, Virginia Smith of Tenino, Cara Fredrickson of Centralia and Pam McCaslin of Tenino.
A celebration of life will take place at the Rotary Log Pavilion, Aberdeen, Wash. on March 11 at 2 p.m.

Emma “Ruth” Olive Stump
Ruth Stump, 93, of Yakima, Wash., died peacefully on Feb. 15, 2016, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center with family and friends at her side.
Born in Peshastin, Wash., Ruth was the daughter of the late Delbert and Ruth McCoy and sister to the late Delbert “Mac” McCoy. She grew up in the Wenatchee Valley where she worked in the apple industry with her family and friends. Eventually she became a meat wrapper and retired from this profession when living in Hoquiam, Wash., with her late husband, Ted Stump.
Ruth loved to travel and lived not only in the Wenatchee Valley but also in California, Seattle and Olympia. When moving to Yakima two years ago, the Ponderosa became her home. The residents there were her family and she was delighted with the friendships she made.
Ruth’s gift to family and friends was unconditional love. She was warm and friendly and had a smile and a hug and kiss for everyone. She passed on her love of swimming with her nieces and made sure they had lots of water fun throughout the years. She was also the family historian and shared many stories and pictures to pass on to the next generation. Always active, she was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Eagles, the Elks, the American Legion and the Community Alliance Church.
Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law Arloha McCoy, her nieces, Terry Ball (Richard), Debbie Sutton, Kit McCoy, Dru McCoy, Dawn McCoy, her step-daughter Carol Anderson, one granddaughter, six great-nieces and nephews and eight great-great-nieces and nephews.
Ruth was very special and unique and loved by all.
Colleen Boerner
Born: March 16, 1931 in Yakima, Wash.
Died: March 3, 2016 in Everett, Wash.
Our Dear Colleen left us Thursday afternoon, March 3, at the age of 84 to go be with the Lord. She touched so many people in many ways. We know she is now at peace in a better place. We sent her off with a kiss of love, hugs and prayers. She will be missed.
Colleen lived 45 years of her life as a resident of Grays Harbor, with 21 years residing with her daughter Karen in Snohomish County. She spend the last 1-1/2 living at Forest View Transitional, while being cared for by all the staff there (thank you). We also want to thank Evergreen Hospice Care.
Colleen enjoyed all the seasons of the year which meant lots of road trips and eating out. She enjoyed the Evergreen State Fair and did not miss one in the last 22 years. She loved Halloween. She would get dressed up and hand out candy to kids and, yes, some adults.
Colleen is survived by her son, Stephen Boerner and wife Alice Boerner of Cosmopolis, Wash., her daughter, Karen Boerner Benn Brudwick and her husband Randy Brudwick of Snohomish, Wash., her grandchildren, Crispin Benn and wife Andréa Benn of Duval, Angela Leann Boerner Simpson and her husband Steve Simpson of Hoquiam, Paula Michele Boerner of Aberdeen, Michael Paul Boerner and wife Tara of Olympia, her great-grandchildren, Garrett Benn, Ashley Hopkins, Kenneth Simpson, Jacob Simpson and Michael’s daughter, and numerous nieces and nephews .
Colleen was preceded in death by her husband Francis Boerner of Grays Harbor, parents Mack McKinley Cahill, Esther Laverne Cahill and brother Wilbur Cahill.
A Graveside service only will be held Wednesday, March 9th at the Wynooche cemetery, Montesano, Wash.
In lieu of flowers Colleen asked that donations be sent to a Salvation Army or Hospice in your local area.

Norman D. Claywell
Norman D. Claywell, age 88, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on Feb. 24, 2016, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Mr. Claywell was born in Eskridge, Kan. to William Jasper and Viola (Vickers) Claywell. He moved with his family to Aberdeen in 1931, where graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1946.
He began working as a truck driver for Pacific Highway Transport, then for many years with Garrett Freight Lines until retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Major) Claywell of Hoquiam; a daughter, Sheri Claywell of Chehalis; niece Barbara Call (Woody) of Toledo, Wash.; nephews, Charles Cooper (Mary of Copalis Crossing, Robert Hay Jr. (Cynthia) of Seattle and their daughter, Kelsey Hay of Seattle. The extended family includes many cousins, nieces and nephews. A sister, Vivian Chapelle died previously.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to PAWS.
A private family service was held. Interment followed at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
Hector Magana
SEATTLE — Hector Magana of Amanda Park died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on . He was 58.
A funeral mass will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Olympic’s Catholic Church in Lake Quinault followed by a committal service at Lake Quinault cemetery.
Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Joshua D. Crockett
Joshua Daniel Eli Crockett of Copalis Beach died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. He was 31.
Cremation are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.
Annette Y. Boland-Emard
Annette Yvonne Boland-Emard of Hoquiam died Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Hoquiam. She was 65.
Services are being planned.

Florence B. Hagfors
OLYMPIA — Florence Bertha Hagfors of Aberdeen died Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 91.
Services are being planned and will be announced as soon as details become available.

John D. “Jack” Bravo Jr.
John Dale “Jack” Bravo Jr., age 76, died on March 1, 2016, at his home in Humptulips. Mr. Bravo was born on Aug. 30, 1939, in Crescent City, Calif. to John Dale Sr. and Helen Aileen (Hall) Bravo. He was raised in Harbor, Ore. and attended local schools.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January of 1957 and served until his discharge in August of 1960. He then returned to Harbor, Ore. and worked for numerous logging companies in southern Oregon and northern California. He then moved to Grays Harbor in 1969. He worked for Rayonier for 14 years. After the company down sized, he worked for other logging companies, including Sweatman Trucking and Charles Miller Trucking.
Jack enjoyed almost 37 years of sobriety with the help of a twelve-step program to which he was highly dedicated and involved in, he touched many people in his years of service.
On Dec.27, 1995, he and Margo Iverson were married
in Brooking, Ore. She survives at the family home.
In addition to his wife, Margo, relatives include his children and their spouses, John III and Tami (Ocheltree) Bravo of Keizer, Ore., Joy and Haldon Wilson III of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Andrew and Corinna (Mendez) Bravo of Jefferson, Ore., Kevin Bravo of Humptulips and Jeremy Bravo and Dabra Keil of Long Beach, Wash.; two step-children and their spouses, Tessa Iverson and Travis Moore of Salem, Ore. and Jerry and Krista (Colton) Iverson of Salem, Ore.; sisters, Sara Balcom of Brookings, Ore. and Elizabeth Sarina of Creswell, Ore. and a brother, Joel Bravo of Brookings, Ore. The extended family includes 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, Jerry Bravo died previously.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Aberdeen Elks Lodge in Aberdeen.

Dr. Wayne Parpala
Aug. 25, 1930 - March 2, 2016
Wayne graduated from Weatherwax H.S. in Aberdeen, the University of Oregon, and the U of O Medical School. He practiced OB-GYN in Olympia, Wash. He is survived by his wife Lois, a daughter, two grandchildren, and two sisters Norma Furu and Nancy Markoff.
Delbert E. Van Slyke
Delbert Eugene Van Slyke, 77, of Olympia, Wash. passed away on March 2, 2016 due to complications from Diabetes. He was born in Caldwell, Idaho on Nov. 12, 1938 to Herbert and Ruth (Summers) Van Slyke, married
Barbara DeBoer on April 25, 1964 and was a restaurant owner/operator in Aberdeen (Smitty’s Pancake House) and Olympia (VanDee’s Dutch Treat Inn) for most of his working life.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Del is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Jennifer (Terry) Meyer, son Brett Van Slyke, grandsons Vaughn and Miller Van Slyke, brother Leland (Lois) Van Slyke of Caldwell, Idaho, and brother Milton (Irene) Van Slyke of Annandale, Va.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, March 12 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Olympia.
Derik Steven Nissell
Derik, our beloved son, little brother, uncle and friend passed away on Monday, Feb. 29. Derik was born on Dec. 30, 1991 in South Bend, Wash.
He graduated from South Bend High School in 2010. Derik was employed at Westport Shipyards as a welder.
Derik enjoyed riding dirt bikes from a very young age and also had a passion for music, ranging from country and rap to classic rock, he attended many concerts with Mark and friends. Derik also loved the outdoors, duck hunting with brother Chris, fishing with brother Kevin and deer hunting with both. Derik was a sports fan and enjoyed going to as many Mariners baseball games as he could with his parents. Derik got his love of baseball from his beloved Grandma Jo and he had played catcher throughout his youth. On game days Derik could be found cheering on the Seahawks.
Derik had a kind soul and would be there for anyone who needed his help. Derik enjoyed volunteering and giving back to his community. This began in grade school, by pulling his wagon around the neighborhood with his friends collecting for the annual food bowl. His class always won by the way. He continued that giving spirit throughout his life helping with various local fundraisers and the South Bend Labor Day celebration.
Derik was very much a family man and was not just our son and brother, but one of our very best friends. Uncle Derik cherished time spent with his niece and nephew and was looking forward to the arrival of a new nephew this summer. He had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor.
Derik is survived by his parents Joyce and Mark Kidd, brothers Kevin Dickey (Amanda) and Chris Nissell (Megan), nephew Grayson Dickey, niece Lilly Nissell, Uncle Dick DeMaris (Kathy), Aunt Nancy Germeaux (Rick), cousins Natalie Germeaux and Danielle DeMaris and numerous other relatives. Derik was preceded in death by his father Steve Nissell, Grandma Jo and Grandpa Curly, uncles Terry and Don.
His wings were ready but our hearts were not, now there is another angel in Heaven watching over us.
A celebration of life will be held on March 12 at 1 p.m. at the Raymond Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kids on the Willapa, the Willapa Harbor Baseball Association or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements were in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
Melvin A. Ramsdell
Melvin Aaron Ramsdell, 74, lifelong resident of the Harbor, died at his home in the North River area, Saturday, March 5, 2016. He was born Jan. 25, 1942 in Aberdeen, the son of Ronald Aaron and Ida Miriam (Bond) Ramsdell. He was raised in Cosmopolis and had graduated from Weatherwax High school in 1960. He would attend Grays Harbor College and would receive his certificate in welding.
When he left high school he worked in the seafood cannery in South Aberdeen. He served an enlistment in the US Army and upon his return to Aberdeen would work as a choker for Weyerhaeuser. He later worked on the Robert Gray Dredge for the Port of Grays Harbor.
Meanwhile he married
Sherry Boone in Cosmopolis on Aug. 19, 1966.
Melvin started work as a deck hand on tug boats for Quigg Brothers/Allman Hubble Companies that would in a few years lead to becoming a captain on the tugs. For a while he was a boiler-man for Pacific Hardwoods and would open MR Coin Shop in Cosmopolis, until he retired in 2009.
He belonged to the Grays Harbor Coin Club, serving as president. He was also a member of the Inland Boatmans’ Union.
Melvin enjoyed gardening, collecting coins and most any memorabilia of local interest. He raised cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, and horses on their North River property.
Besides his wife of nearly 50 years, Sherry, Melvin is survived by a son: Bryan Ramsdell, Cosmopolis; a daughter: Teresa and husband Tim Sorrell, CleElum, Wash.; three brothers: Everett, Raymond, Wayne and wife Linda, Aberdeen and Ken, Aberdeen; two sisters: Arlene Gallington, Aberdeen and Judy Ramsdell, Kirkland.
A gathering of friends and family will be at 3 p.m. Friday, March 11 in the Dorothy Mann Reception Room at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
Private inurnment will take place in Forest Hill cemetery, Cosmopolis.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 19024, Settle, WA 98109.
