Gerri B. Stone

Longtime Grays Harbor resident Gerri B. Stone passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 56. Gerri was born Oct. 20, 1959, in Pottsville, Penn., to Kenneth and Rosa (Keuerleber) Bensinger. Gerri moved with her family to Aberdeen when she was 14 years old and graduated from Ocosta High School.

On Aug. 14, 1982, Gerri married Bruce W. Stone in Aberdeen. He survives her at the family home along with their daughter, Trinity.

Gerri had worked for Maurices, J.C. Penny’s, Grays Harbor Title, Failor Chiropractic. She worked at the Aberdeen School District until she became ill in 2014.

She was a member of Harbor City Church. Gerri loved to visit Leavenworth and Wenatchee, sea-doing, spending time with her family and going on vacations with her daughter Trinity. The happiest day of Gerri’s life was the birth of her daughter Trinity.

In addition to the loves of her life, her husband Bruce and their daughter Trinity she is also survived by her parents Kenneth and Rosa Bensinger; son Andy (Anna) Stone of Aberdeen; three brothers Alfie and Kenny (Brianna) Bensinger both of Aberdeen, Elmer Bensinger of Rochester, Wash.; three sisters Betta (Robert) Failor of Aberdeen, Chris (Dan) Work of Lancaster, Penn. and Helen Bensinger of Aberdeen; two grandchildren Presley Stone and Toby Courts; nieces Brittney and Amber Bensinger and nephews Allen Bensinger, Dan Work Jr., Aaron, Jason and Shawn Failor, Brandon, Hans, Cody and Kolby Bensinger.

A celebration of her life will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 at Harbor City Church, 1700 Cherry St. in Aberdeen.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Harbor City Church.

Gerri’s family would like to thank Radiant Care, Grays Harbor Community Hospital 2nd and 3rd floor nurses, Grays Harbor Health and Rehab, Harbor City Church and Pastors Doug and Lois Cotton for all their care, love and support.

Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen.

Lauren Howard Lucke
Aug. 24, 1926 - Dec. 15, 2015

Lauren was born in Jefferson Iowa in 1926, the second of four childern to Richard and Elizabeth Lucke. When Lauren was 16 they moved to Seattle, Wash., where he was in the inaugural year of the Seattle Youth Symphony, where he played the French horn. He graduated from the University of Washington with a major in zoology. During WWII, he was placed in a Japanese-language program but the war ended and his skills were no longer needed. With the US Army bill he was able to go to Medical school in Down State New York following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps in medicine. While there he met an attactive nurse, fell in love and married . He always refered to Jane Buskirk Lucke (1926-2010) as his “New York Souvenir.” They moved to LA for his residency and then back to Seattle where he practiced along side is father in General Practice before moving to Sultan Wash., where he had is own practice. After many years in private practice Lauren went back to school to get his Masters in Public Health where he spent the remainder of his career as Director of Health for Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties. Lauren and Jane moved to Olympia in 2002 when the house in Aberdeen became too much for them. They were active in the Unitarian Church and supported “Out of the Woods” A homeless shelter on church grounds which serves families with young children with the goal of moving to stable, sustainable housing. After Jane passed away in 2010, Lauren moved to Calif., to live with his daugther, Dorothy. Lauren and Jane raised four childern Elizabeth (Bob) Zink, Dorothy (Dave) Miller, Richard (Sandy) Lucke and Eric (Nan) Lucke. They had seven grandkids and one great-granddaugher. Lauren’s passions included salmon fishing in the Pacific Northwest (Neah Bay), birdwatching, long conversation about philosophy and history and read everything he could about Winston Churchill and WWII. He was a long time member of the Grays Harbor Symphany where he played the Double Base, Coast Guard Axillary, Elks Culb and supporter of the Lady Washington. He loved playing duplicate bridge and ending each day with the “Lucke Martini.” He will be missed. Private services will be held this summer.

Walter Butch Jensen

Walter Jensen of Hoquiam, Wash., died Dec. 27, 2015, at St. Peter’s Hospital. He was 73 years old. He was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Vancouver, Wash.

He was a loving dad, grandfather and friend. He is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Jason) Nygren and Yvonne and David Raines;’ four granddaughters, Tara Jensen, Natasha Jensen, Tiffany Jensen and Teri Nygren; and three great-grandchildren, Zae, Kyleigh and Alonzo.

Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Aberdeen V.F.W, E. Heron, Aberdeen from 1:30 to 4 p.m. (potluck).

Betty Jo (McGregor) Bastin

Betty Jo (McGregor) Bastin, age 81, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimers on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, in Aberdeen, Wash., at the home of her son, Dr. Brian McGregor.

She was born Elizabeth Josephine Baxter Dec. 14, 1933, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Charles Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Harvey) Baxter.

Betty Jo graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1951 and attended Washington State College for two years where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Betty Jo married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lee McGregor, on Feb. 12, 1955, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They moved to Sacramento, Calif. and later to Aberdeen, Wash. Robert passed away in 1987. In 1993, Betty Jo married Jack Bastin.

Betty Jo is survived by her husband of 22 years, Jack Bastin, sons Michael (Diana) McGregor of Ocean Shores and Brian (Joy) McGregor of Aberdeen, grandchildren Justin (Tina), Nicole, Steve, Jeremiah, Christopher (Veronika), Kathryne, and Joshua as well as nieces Jane (Devin) Backholm, Lois (Doug) Cotton, and nephew Richard (Janet) Baxter and the Bastin family.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Robert McGregor, brother John Harvey Baxter, and son Kevin Richard McGregor.

Please join us and share memories at a catered lunch celebration of Betty Jo’s life on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 12 p.m., Harbor City Church, 1700 Cherry Street, Aberdeen.

Bonnie Louise Hadlock-Miles

Bonnie Hadlock-Miles, 88, of Hoquiam died Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at her home following an extended illness. She had been a resident of Hoquiam the past 37 years.

Bonnie was born April 20, 1927, at Loveland, Colo., to Ernest and Addie Thomas. When she was in grade school the family moved to Raymond, Wash., where she graduated from high school in 1945.

In 1945, Bonnie married Clarence Hadlock. Following Clarence’s discharge from the U.S. Navy they moved to Vancouver, Wash., where they raised their five children. She was a homemaker and worked many years as a school bus driver for the Vancouver School District. Following their retirements they moved to Hoquiam, where they enjoyed spending time with their family and grandchildren. In addition she became quite an avid Mariner’s fan. Clarence passed away in October of 1990.

Bonnie married Jim Miles in July of 1993. Jim passed away in Feb. of 2003.

Survivors include her companion of 10 years, Don Holmin at the family home, three sons, Terry (Rhonda) Hadlock of Woodburn, Ore., Randy (Patty Jones) Hadlock of Humptulips, Brad Hadlock of Hoquiam, daughter Lorene (Dan) Burns of Hoquiam, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her son, Donavon, two brothers, Maxwell and James and three sisters, Audry, Esther and Ollie.

A private graveside service was held on Dec. 30 at the Menlo cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.

Carlene A. Moore

Carlene Ann Moore, 78, a lifetime resident of the Harbor, died at her home in Central Park, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015. She was born June 15, 1937, in Aberdeen, the daughter of Howard and Esther (Carlstad) Nelson. She was raised in Montesano and attended schools there.

On July 7, 1954, she was married to Richard G. Moore. They made their home on the Harbor, moving to Central Park in 1963.

Carlene had worked as a checker at Linkshire Market for a while and then Thriftway-Pick-Rite in Montesano, retiring in 1980.

She enjoyed all the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. She was a master gardener and enjoyed puzzles and cooking. She also liked to play Scrabble with others on the I-Pad and scrapbooking. She was a member of the Stampin’ Up Card Club.

Carlene’s zest for life blessed all those around her.

Carlene is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dick, of the family home in Central Park; two daughters: Maurene “Mo” and husband Brad Fuhrer, Aberdeen and Shelly and husband Dan Davidson, Olympia; and a son: Rick and wife Cindy Moore, Central Park; three brothers: John Randall, Quilcene, Wash., Ed Nelson, Union, Wash. and Doug Nelson, Satsop Valley; a sister: Kristine McLaughlin, Kirkland, Wash.; and also six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Private family services were held at graveside in Wynoochee cemetery, Montesano.

Arrangements were entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home, 2208 Roosevelt St., Aberdeen.

Lucetta E. Bender

On Jan. 2, 2016, Lucetta Ellen Bender made her final transition to be with the love of her life, who went before her in 2012, Nick Joseph Bender. Lucetta was also preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Julia Smalley, brothers Art Smalley, Perry Smalley, and Calvin Smalley. She is survived by her siblings Isabelle Paczkowski, Marvin Smalley, JoAnn Rhodes, and Alonzo “Sonny” (Dianne) Smalley.

Lucetta and Nick created a family starting with their surviving children, John (Robyn) Bender, of Issaquah, Nikki Smidt of Bellevue, Boyd (Lori Brewington) Bender of Seattle, Michael (Amy Hartley) Bender of Montesano. That led to the creation of 14 grandchildren, Bryan (Erin Hennessay) Kirkwood, Denny Kirkwood, Marisa (Aaron Utigard) Bender, Sarah (AJ) Kurtz, Tyler Bender, Ronnie Lee (Ray) Rainwater, Sean (Ali Starks) Bender, Bobbie (Jorge) Williams, Kristin (Rob Leidle) Bender, Michele Danyile, Arika (Cliff Armstrong) Bender, Richard “Ricky” (Christina Hanke) Smidt, Haley (Shane) Kohlmeier, Chandler (Kevin Lockmer) Smidt. From there, and this family is not done yet, that led to 20 great-grandchildren which she had the pleasure of holding and loving before she passed.

She was born Lucetta Ellen Smalley on March 22, 1932 in Columbia, S.D., and graduated from Chehalis High School in 1950. She moved to Montesano for a secretary position with Paul B Fournier, attorney at law. While there she met Nick Bender and they were married on March 9, 1951 in Montesano, Wash.

She then spent time working at several jobs all while raising a family until she started her final career at the Treasurers office for Grays Harbor County. She worked her way up to the highest positon of Deputy Treasurer until she retired with 30 years’ service in 1992.

Nick and Lucetta shared a home in Montesano for 61 years where Lucetta lived until her passing. They enjoyed doing all sorts of activities together which included owning a boat that they often took to the San Juan Islands, trips to Hawaii, and owning a second home in Arizona where they loved to spend time with their friends. They were also able to travel to Croatia to see our family and enjoy the discovery of Nick’s roots and establish a new bond with our distant family.

Her biggest joy in life was her family. She spent time sharing her greatest assets, her love, her big heart, her kindness and her giving nature. She belonged to St John’s Catholic Church for 65 years where she was a member of the Altar Society and sang in the choir. She was also a past president of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary, post 2455.

She loved reading, cooking for her family, and doing crossroad puzzles daily, in ink. She loved animals and always had one until the passing of her beloved Heidi two years ago.

Her Services will be held at St John’s Catholic Church in Montesano at 11 a.m., on Saturday Jan. 9, with a reception to follow at the parish hall next to the church. We suggest donations in her name to the Montesano Volunteer Fire Department or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary of Montesano.

Marcia Janice Lenss

Marcia Janice Lenss, 60, a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, died at her home there Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015. Marcia was born in Aberdeen on Oct. 15, 1955, the daughter of Joel Clyde and Marjorie Glee (Highland) Brown. She had attended Cosmopolis, North River and Aberdeen schools. She had been a homemaker and liked working with plants and gardening, and animals. She was a volunteer at PAWS.

Marcia is survived by two sons: Peter J. Lenss, Aberdeen and Joshua J. and wife Lyndsay Lenss, Elma; four daughters: Poppy and husband James Cogburn, Jasmine and husband Eric Gartner and Cora J. Lenss, all of Aberdeen and Daisy A. J. Baldwin, Ocean Shores; four brothers: Jerry and wife Gloria Brown, San Miguel Allende, Mexico, Wayne Brown, Montesano, and Gene and Jaime Brown, both of Aberdeen; a sister-in-law: Dale Brown, Cosmopolis; her companion: John Soldevilla, Aberdeen; and also 23 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Don and Ricky Brown.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9th at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3101 Cherry St., Hoquiam. A fellowship meal will follow the service at the church.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3101 Cherry St., Hoquiam, WA 98550

Brian D. Bednarik

Brian David Bednarik of Aberdeen died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. He was 31.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Judy T. Clark

OLYMPIA — Judy Teruko Clark, a long time resident of Elma died Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. She was 88.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Keith W. Bray

OLYMPIA — Keith William Bray, a longtime resident of Montesano, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 85.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Patrick D. O’Connor

Aberdeen resident Patrick Dennis O’Connor died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. He was 83.

Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.

Roger Davis

SEATTLE — Roger E. Davis, a resident of Hoquiam, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 at Swedish Medical Center, Cherry Hill Campus in Seattle. He was 83.

He had worked as a machinist for Lambs Grays Harbor.

A gathering is being planned and will be announced in a later edition of The Daily World.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Nancy J. Jex

Nancy Jean Jex, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. She was 76.

She attended Grays Harbor Business College and worked for several Harbor doctors including Macs, Haskey, Richardson and Canfield.

At her request, there will be no service.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.

Katherine A. Gomery

Former Brooklyn resident Katherine Anna Gomery died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015 at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam at the age of 110.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the North River cemetery in Brooklyn.

Edward ‘Chris’ Barclay

Beloved family man Edward Chris Barclay, 73, of Kelso, passed away Dec. 29, 2015, at the Hospice Care Center.

He was born in 1942 on Christmas day in Seattle, to Edward and Jeanne (Coomes) Barclay. Chris graduated from Moclips High School in 1961 and attended Centralia College.

In 1964, he married Loretta Swanson in Kelso. They lived in the Grays Harbor area for many years. Chris and Loretta moved to Kelso eight years ago to be near family.

Chris was a systems dispatcher for Grays Harbor PUD in Aberdeen, Wash. He retired in September of 1996 due to medical disabilities. He served as secretary of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) in Aberdeen for several years. He was also a member of the Grays Harbor Rifle & Pistol Club, and a bowling league in his younger years. He loved fishing, whether in an ocean, river, lake or stream. He also loved playing golf, hunting, projects with his grandsons and traveling with Loretta. He was an outgoing and loving person. Chris was always helping his neighbors, friends and relatives with whatever was needed.

Nothing was more important to Chris than family. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Barclay at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Deven and Tovi Barclay of Hoquiam, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Dean Selzler of Longview; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Jan Johnson of Seattle, and David and Debra Johnson of Hoquiam; a brother-in-law, Don Swanson of Kelso; six grandsons whom he adored; two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

A memorial service, including a luncheon and slide show, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at The Red Lion, 510 Kelso Drive in Kelso.

Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.
